The staff keeps offering free biscuits because it's been 40 minutes for oatmeal! "They're too cheap to pay for enough cooks. We're traveling to PA from DC with two grandchildren. We stopped at this Cracker Barrel in Frederick MD for lunch about 1pm. We had a ten minute wait to be seated which was fine. We were shown to our table and the table had not been cleaned. We had to move out of the way while they called a busboy. After the table was bussed, there was still a pile of trash under my seat. There was a chair missing. Five minutes before the waitress came, but she did stop to say she'd be right back. We ordered hot chocolate, none was available. We ordered apple juice, none was available. My grandson received one part of his meal and not the rest. We had no water, silverware or napkins until after our meals were served. My grandsons mashed potatoes were dried out and cold by the time he got them. Several other tables were served before us. My hash brown casserole had a string of some sort in them. The ketchup had little lumps in it. My husband responded at checkout saying we did not have a good experience. The cashier suggested we speak with a manager. The manager asked what our complaints were. When my husband told her she said she was sorry, that she'd speak to the staff and then she walked away. read more

Looking for quick food at a reasonable price with a friendly country atmosphere - try Cracker Barrel. Country style food with a fair variety. Breakfast is available "all the time". Sorry - no alcohol, but plenty of coffee, milk and tea. Also, they do no serve Pepsi or Coke. The wait during busy times is usually 20 minutes or so which is remarkable for Frederick around dinner time. Staff is friendly and if you become a regular then remember you. You can ask for your favorite server if they're working. We eat at Cracker Barrel frequently when we travel. This one is tops for consistent service and courteous staff. read more

If you like large portions of country fried steak, this place is great! If you've ever traveled long stretches of I-95, you've probably seen a towering sign for a Cracker Barrel. Growing up, the only I Cracker Barrel knew of were the blocks of cheese at the the grocery store, so I thought, "Really? A whole store for crackers and cheese?" Food - I'm not American so I really don't know what comfort food is. For me, comfort food is usually covered in red pepper flakes, fermented and served with rice. From what I can gather though, comfort food is generally of a muted color and could be called come-fat food because it's all, as Ina K. puts it, "Carbs. All Carbs." All the food here is some shade of brown and is generally breaded and fried - even the green beans look brownish green.This used to be my favorite place for country/chicken fried steak until I ran into the King of the Road Chicken Fried Steak at the Iron Skillet in Mebane, NC (see pic). The buttermilk biscuits are great; make sure you ask for the apple butter. I never deviate from the country fried steak and I don't think I'm missing much. Btw, they SLATHER gravy all over your CFS and mashed potatoes, so you may want to ask for it on the side if you don't want to bleed gravy. The portions here are, like many of the diners, obese. Was that mean? Ok, they're pleasantly plump. Location - There's no such thing as a convenient Cracker Barrel unless you live in the middle of nowhere. And yes, before all the recent development, Frederick was Farderick or Farmderick. Most of the stores, however, are located just off the Interstate so they are convenient if you are traveling. They also have rocking chairs outside if you want to have a preview of what life will be like when you're 80, sans adult diapers. Only once did my group have to wait more than 5-10 minutes for a table so the large checker boards outside are a great way to pass the time, you know, because who really talks with the people they're dining with while they're waiting to be seated? Service - I've generally had friendly servers but the food does take about 30 minutes to arrive. They have this puzzle game on the table to pass the time, you know, because who really talks with the people they're dining with while they're waiting for their food? But on the real, that puzzle game is fun. It's a triangular block with plastic pieces in it with one missing. When you jump over a piece, you remove that piece and you keep going as long as you can (my personal best: 3). This is the worst Cracker Barrel I've ever been to! Manager is extremely rude! I have a dairy allergy and I don't eat meat. When I asked for something as simple as oatmeal with water instead of milk, the server asked the manager and the manager came out to tell me they only have oatmeal with milk already in it. Then he walked away he was rude and did not even offer any alternative! Two thumbs way down! It took us forever to even be seated our server kept forgetting about our table or what we asked for it took us about three times to ask (remind) him of what we ordered, the tables and floors were disgusting. Crackerbarrel is the modern Stucky's but more than a counter and a store. Carbohydrate Heaven but with a lo-carb section where you can get 5-8 carb count meals (but lots of fat). But some of the best reasonably priced breakfast on our hyways today. And the fried chicken and meatloaf is pretty good too. The worse thing you can encounter is a sawmill gravy that's glue and chicken and dumplings that's gone to mush. But if something's wrong, tell them, they're there to fix it. While there is some variation between sites, the biscuits could be dry at one, and perfect at another that's mostly a function of when they made them last, the entries generally taste the same. There's little to not like, since it's moderate pricing, friendly staff, and good value. Crackerbarrel's worse problem is the menu, which gives a name for a set of entrées and sides, with a fairly large order of combinations. With a given egg dish, you can choose from 3 breads )biscuits, corn muffin, sour dough) or pancakes, plus grits, 4 meats, and 2 kinds of potatoes or cooked apples and sawmill gravy tossed in on another plate. There are 12 side dishes at lunch/dinner. My biggest disappointment on this trip (we ate 3 times at different ones in the area) was that they have now gone from 100% maple syrup to 55% 'natural' syrup. read more

If they get your order right (they won't), you'll be waiting more than an hour to get it after you've been seated, with little to no appearances from your waiter to check on you in the meantime (don't expect drink refills). I gave one star because I couldn't give less. We went to dinner for our parent's anniversary--this was always their favorite restaurant. Requested seating for 8--we were seated at separate tables and couldn't sit together and we were not allowed to push tables together due to code restrictions (??). There was dirt on tables, mashed potatoes and portions of biscuits on chairs, and dirty napkins and straws under the tables. We weren't provided any knives--we were told they were all dirty. Food was, at best, warm and not delivered for the entire group at once--half of our party was finished before the other half was even served. It was especially cold for the ones in our party who needed knives to eat. We eventually were given butter knives, but they weren't quite up to the task of cutting the chicken or steak dinners. Coffee was lukewarm and we requested creamer--I had to finally go to the kitchen area to get some since the server disappeared. This was the worst dining out I've ever experienced. We'll never return to this or any other Cracker Barrel and this includes my parents who were very disappointed and embarrassed for selecting this restaurant in the first place. read more

The store has so many things to look at -- I think that's what I was most excited about when I got there. The food... not so much. Everything tasted pretty bland. We tried the chicken fried steak, as well as their eggs, grits, french toast (nothing special) bacon & hash brown I believe. I pretty much doused my grits with Tabasco.... they were very gritty and didn't have much taste. There were also fairly large ants crawling around our table too... Wow...We've always enjoyed the "country feel" of a good Cracker Barrel. This one, however, is not a good one. After being seated and overall, we waited on the waiter for very long intervals. Our waiter seemed to have "forgotten" that I even existed. Four other people at the table received salad or apps (while I had to order mine a second time) and then, lo and behold, I had to remind him what my entree was and reorder that. Throughout the entire meal, the table sat with empty glasses. When my entree finally arrived, (chicken-fried steak), it had been prepared in old oil. The flavor was unbearably bad and although I was willing to pay for it, not eat it, and order a burger instead, the waiter seemed irritated with me. The burger arrived without the side of mayo I'd asked for and the waiter disappeared after tossing it on the table. I waited a 1-2 minutes to catch a glimpse of him again and when he showed up, the rest of table was finished with their meals. I asked for a carryout box and a side of mayo...we left. We won't be back. Not good for groups or children because of the wait times during the meal and groups would absolutely shut this place down. read more

When a food runner sits food down in front of you and says - I wouldn't eat that , it looks gross .... That's a good indication that this is a place to stay away from. I love Cracker Barrel. I've eaten their food in Texas where I'm from and in Tennessee. Because I wanted some southern food that I didn't want to cook myself, I gave the one in Frederick a try. This was last November, so it had nothing to do with COVID-19. The food was horrible. The fish wasn't seasoned. The beans and greens tasted like they were several day's old. The cornbread muffin tasted days old too. It was a true waste of money. I had to ask twice for my dessert. It was bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. The waitress brought a frozen piece of bread pudding and some ice cream--to go. I've never had bread pudding from any restaurant to taste frozen. I especially thought it was homemade from a restaurant like Cracker Barrel. The waitress heated up the bread pudding and brought it back. The only thing on it worth eating were the pecans. I will not be going back to this restaurant. I don't understand why this place is always crowded because the food isn't good. I'll wait until I go back to the South to eat at Cracker Barrel. read more

First my group and I were told that our table was ready when we went to go be seated our table was not ready it took 15 mins for it to be cleaned off, after being seated we were not seen by our waiter until 20 mins after being seated, so we ordered our food with our drinks. It took an additional 20 mins until we got our drinks, and another 20 mins to get our food, our waiter never asked any questions with our orders like which sides we would like. The food finally came out it was dry and cold and others in my group were missing food! We were all out of drinks and he said that he would be back with refills, we finished our food and sat there and our drinks were never brought out, we would've said something but we only saw him three times, when he took our order, when he brought the drinks, and when he brought the food with the check. All of the service would probably be better if all of the staff weren't standing around talking with eachother and playing on there phones. It is pretty sad when I watched a customer get up from their table to have to go back into the staff only area to get his own ketchup that he asked for and never received truly piss poor management and staffing fucking do better read more

I have a party of 6 and want to put my name on the list but she ask me if my party is here. So when my party gets here we still have to wait 20 more minutes and she keeps asking me if my party is here? Not sure what her problem is. Went early today and had Shelly as my server. I don't know if it's because my friend and I are young, but she completely ignored us. Our service was completely unacceptable. Throughout our whole experience she would ignore us when trying to get her attention, but easily go to other tables and have conversations with them. The only way we got help was with her trainee. Shelly made it obvious that she didn't want to help us with only a little progress being made through our meal. Our food came out cold and we had to continue asking for more things while we ate. We were disappointed to the point where we didn't continue eating our food there and poorly got boxes from Shelly. I usually have a great time at Cracker Barrel, not this time. read more

Almost everything they sell supports the sweat shops in China and other third world countries. As a former employee, I do not recommend working for this Company. They treat their employees poorly and instruct their management to keep wages down in the following manner: Evaluations are delayed so you cannot get a raise The Company makes you take a test in order to get a raise The Company takes adavatage of thier work force by making employees work part of their hours at the min. wage scale instead of thier actual hourly rate by calling their work assignment "training" for new employees and "retraining" for long term employees. Cracker Barrel is getting away with these tactics because of the poor economy. This is the thing about cracker Barrel. Don't go if you are on a diet. I mean I am sure they have things like salad and healthier fare but come on... this is the Cracker Barrel. I never get anything different (cause why ruin what I love) but everyone else I go with gets other things. That being said I am complimenting this past time we were there. We went with my husband's parents as a Christmas Lunch. We met halfway and that was the best place for us to choose. We really did like the whole day. They were very friendly and were okay with us taking a table for 2 hours. The waitress was a little brisk but friendly and didn't get any of my father in law's jokes. (They are corny) and the manager was pleasant but tended to loiter about us a wee bit more then I liked. That is the whole reason for four instead of five. read more

Large group of 9 ppl. They put a circle and square table together in the doorway by the hostess station. A few orders messed up because the waitress made errors. She attempted to charge for her errors and realized that would be poor customer service once we discussed it. My nephew ordered french toast, she served pancakes. She left the pancakes on the table put in correct order and upon her return told us we had to pay for the pancakes she left on the table because my other nephew sampled them. Really you should've taken the pancakes or indicated you would be back for them. Although when she left the table her hands were empty. The okra was hard, but the catfish was great. Well done eggs we ordered were sunny and runny! Lemonade was good and the biscuits were excellent! Overall fair experience. Been to much better Cracker Barrels... read more
