I stopped in here for a quick lunch on a work visit to Joliet. The service was solid - respectful, sweet, and classic Cracker Barrel. I ordered breakfast because breakfast is an all day kinda meal haha Usually when I order at Cracker Barrel I will customize what I want because they have everything I want, it's just not always on the menu in one simple thing to order; that's what I did again this time. I got my 2 eggs, 1 slice of sourdough French toast with sugar free syrup, turkey sausage, and some fresh fruit. It came out exactly how I ordered it - classic Cracker Barrel. Then the sweet lady that checked me out talked me into signing up for the Cracker Barrel loyalty card thing - I can't believe I hadn't done this before. Ordered a carry out meal...the CampFire Chicken. This what I got looked like they Really did place the food on a Fire! You will see by the photos. Even though the cashier was very nice, I couldn't get over the "packaging". The food is wrapped in foil however there was no plastic dome (as a previous time I'd ordered the meal I was impressed). Because of the over done darkened food the "juices" were just as dark and the entire meal was excessively salty. This was a big let down this time. Went here last week dined alone. I had a server named Chloe she was just the sweetest. Food was solid and the place has a good ambiance. Haven't been to a Cracker Barrel in many years. Decided to go with hubby and Mom for breakfast. We were seated promptly. And, our server was extremely nice. I'm not a pancake or sweets breakfast girlie so I ordered the Grampa breakfast. 2 eggs, chicken fried chicken, biscuits and gravy. The side I chose was hash brown casserole. The biscuits were a bit hard but the gravy helped out a little. I did have to add lots of salt and pepper to everything...but not bad. Mom had pecan French toast with sausage. It looked overcooked to me. She said it wasn't to bad. The presentation was not good. Hubby is boring and got mamas breakfast...2 scrambled eggs with 3 pieces of bacon and 3 pancakes. I went there at 4 pm, was seated quickly, service was OK, several people came by to ask how it was. The silverware package had no spoon, which I was told is a management decision, you have to ask for one. Got the Grandpa's chicken fried steak, which was breaded ground beef. It said on the menu it was supposed to have biscuits and gravy, but they forgot the gravy. I got the hash brown casserole, which seemed not fresh, a little old and dry. Biscuits were warm, butter was cold. When I got the gravy it was very bland for gravy with not even pepper for flavor. The scrambled eggs were sort of flat, square and layered, like it was made by a machine. The food was OK, but I left feeling like it was all very bland and not flavorful. I placed an order yesterday online for two meatloaf, lunch specials, and a side of deep fried pickles. My order was supposed to be done at 11:28 and when I arrived they were acting like I was at the wrong location and they didn't see my order. Then they said they found my order, but it was just coming out of the oven and was very hot. I finally got my order around 11:53 AM and the food definitely was not hot. It was lukewarm if that. The deep fried pickles were terrible, they were very salty and ended up making us both sick. We both had really bad stomach aches all night long, I also asked for some pickled ranch on the side and they barely put any in a cup. It was filled a quarter of the way. The meatloaf was not very good. They did not put any gravy on my mashed potatoes. I don't think I would want to return to this location. read more

MMMMMmmm! Love me some Cracker Barrel! My mom and I LOVE this place and it is our favorite for breakfast. We got two different platters and shared it. So many delicious flavors! Their biscuits and homemade gravy is so savory and tasty! Their ham, bacon and sausage are very flavorful. The eggs were good and the casserole is my favorite!! The fried apples are a nice sweet treat. I can't leave out the pancakes! I would have to say out of all the breakfast restaurants I have been to, Cracker Barrel has the BEST pancakes around. They are so fluffy, buttery and have a nice exterior crispy side to them. YUM! The service has always been great here. The restaurant itself is clean and cozy. We stopped here for a reliable breakfast this morning. Despite it being a Sunday morning, we didn't have to wait for a table. After being seated, we were quickly greeted by our friendly waitress. I decided to order the bacon and egg hash brown casserole. My mom ordered the French toast breakfast. We were both very happy with our choices and enjoyed our meals. 12/27/19 My friend and I came to have a late lunch here. They didn't have a special for Friday per their daily specials board. I ordered the meatloaf and my friend had the fried chicken tenders. The food took a while to get to us, but it was still decent. My green beans and mashed potatoes weren't warm enough, but I was too hungry and on a time constraint to complain. The waitress kept forgetting things we would ask for, but was nice and apologized a lot. The rating is strictly for the time, food, and service provided. We got stuck in Merrillville, Indiana, and had no choice to eat at the Cracker Barrel at 6200 Opportunity Ln. I was worried because it smelled like grease from the parking lot. We we seated, and the first thing we noticed were the floors. I'd guess they were swept some time in the 90's. The table was a bit greasy. A few staff were walking around with ear pods dancing to music. I asked a different server a question about a to-go for my daughter's mostly acceptable leftovers, and they rolled their eyes and looked at me like I was a serial killer. Normally I'd walk out, but we needed to eat. The food was terrible. The bacon for my breakfast HAD to have been made the night before. I could go on, but here's the takeaway: If you're starving and there's only this Cracker Barrel available, seriously consider fasting. It will do you good. read more

Let's start off with the food. The meal that I decided to have for breakfast was the Grandpa's Country Fried Breakfast. It had two eggs of your choice that I could say was alright, it was a slice of cheese on eggs nothing bad. You also get a breakfast side which I choose to have the Hash-brown Casserole which was very good. Good taste and has a good after taste. You also get a Chicken Fried Chicken with sawmill gravy which I can also say was very good the chicken was juicy but not to juicy with good flavors all around. To top it all off you get biscuits and gravy, to say the least they were subpar and not the best but were not bad. For how many customers there were, the restaurant was understaffed for the day but the server that I was appointed was very well taken care of and did not fold under the pressure. Unfortunately it's seems Cracker Barrel has lost any of its luster. I think that every time I go I'm hoping it gets better but it never does and I need to stop wasting my time and money. First this location does have lots of employees working which is good. What's not good is when you have lots of servers and you don't get orders taken quickly, have water brought to your table, ask if your meal was ok, bring extra napkins, mess every order up that was taken and so many other negative things. Where I was sitting, I could see clear into the kitchen and saw the large amounts of food on trays sitting on the counter ready to go. I saw items, including ours sitting there for 15 minutes. By the time we got our food it was lukewarm at best. The gravy in the dumplings was like water and was unappetizing. The sausage was dry and the kids Mac n cheese was almost cold and lacked any flavor. I ordered online to try Cracker Barrel out. Cracker Barrel is by far my favorite breakfast joint to go to when I'm out of the state usually. I ordered for pick up, it was a hefty order and I had to go back twice because they forget stuff or it was cold. By the time I tried to sit down and enjoy my breakfast, it was cold. I didn't even get a credit or anything either for next time, I was upset they messed up our order especially since there was nobody else there to pick up their order as well. Stopped for dinner at the end of a long day of road-tripping. We were a large group (5 adults/5 kids), so it was understandable that it took a while to get seated. The waiter that we had was a young kid and seemed inexperienced, which is no problem, we all start somewhere. My mother-in-law had a bit of trouble hearing him over the general din of the room but the rest of us managed fine. Drink order went without any issue. That was the last time we were offered drinks during our entire stay. No refills on water without flagging someone down to ask. We ordered our food and waited a while for it. We were easily waiting over an hour for our food. When the food finally came out, only half of it was brought to our table. We figured it was coming in waves and waited for everyone to be served so we could start eating together. No more food was brought out. Later, our waiter asked how everything was and I pointed out that half of us didn't get our food. A trip to the kitchen and 10mins later and another tray of food came out. This got us to about 90% of our order being filled but I still didn't have my biscuits and my mother-in-law was missing her biscuits and gravy. Another reminder that we were missing food and the waiter went back to the kitchen to complete the order. Slow service and kitchen confusion was an issue enough but what tipped us over into bad review territory was the gravy with the biscuits and gravy. It tasted like someone subbed the flour for baking soda. Not just "I don't care for this gravy" but "this should not be served to humans" level. The rest of the food was great and no one else had any complaints but the gravy was unforgivable. My mother-in-law was hungry at this point and too embarrassed to complain but I didn't want anyone else to have to suffer through this gravy. I caught the manager going by our table and told him something was wrong with the gravy. He declined to try what was served to us and said he would check it in the kitchen and get back with us. He went on to explain that this was Sawmill gravy and we shouldn't expect it to taste like any other gravy. We never saw the manager again and my mother-in-law insisted on settling the bill and leaving without any further complaint. It was starting to get late so, we moved on and left Cracker Barrel both literally and metaphorically in the rearview mirror. read more

From the moment you walk in and our greeted with a smile from the Hostess and all the staff involved with your meal or while you shop in the store part of the restaurant. Which brings back so many childhood memories.To the bright and cheery atmosphere of the decor with all the antiques and cleanliness of the place. I want to give a shout out to Angel our Manager who was very caring, and kind. We had Grace as are waitress/server and Hayley on another afternoon, and how lucky we were. Both Grace and Hayley have a sense of humor and both Grace and Hayley will greet you with a smile and a genuine uplifting, kind, and caring demeanor through out your meal. We never needed anything because Grace and Hayley where on top of it. Both with a big smile as they kept returning to our table to see how we where doing. These two will bless you in a big way. The food was really delicious and hot. The portions were large and the price was very affordable and fair. Take out took forever. Was quoted 20 minutes and as an hour passed we asked and they said it was because the carrots were still cooking. We said skip the carrots and let's get this thing going. They gave us a free mini peach cobbler to make up for it, but when we got back to our room we found they had forgotten the biscuits. This location needs to get it together. read more

We were greeted and seated immediately and our server, Ronna, stopped by right away for our drink orders-Diet Coke with lemon for me and Ice Tea with Lemon for my wife. Because it has been a while since we ate at a Cracker Barrel, I ordered my original usual of Chicken & Dumplings lunch portion (two sides instead of three) with Corn and Mac n' Cheese, not my new usual Haddock. Came on a Sunday and it wasn't that busy. Our server was a nice guy who was quick and attentive. We were a party of 8 and all ordered similar food. When our food was brought out they only brought out half of the food. We waited for everyone else to get their food and 5 minutes later the brought out 3 more plates. This meant one person was missing their food. It took about 5-7 minutes for the last plate to be brought out. I'm not sure why they did this, we much rather would've waited until all the food was ready rather than for it to be brought out in sections. It's disrespectful to eat when not everyone has their food. The food itself was good and very filling. So happy that my local Cracker Barrel is still serving lunch during the covid19 crisis. As an essential worker, I appreciate a business going above and beyond to make customers feel safe during the quarantine. This restaurant adjusted operations to afford a contact-less experience with the option of carry-out or delivery. The good news - the adjustments with operations did not impact the great customer service or food quality you come to expect from Cracker Barrel. My food was seasoned properly, the ingredients were fresh and my server included a note of thanks. Additionally, the restaurant the parking lot and pick up counter was clean with no signs of discarded gloves or masks in the area. Went to Cracker Barrel on a Friday night, first time back in over two years. Last visit was bad and thought I was done with them but a couple of months ago went to lunch with a coworker, they revamped their menu and have now started selling beer. Convinced my husband to go tonight, he was not a fan because of our last experience and the fact he couldn't get a beer to go with his dinner, so I was able to make going attractive since now he could get his beer. This is now the second and final time I am done with Cracker Barrel, We were seated and had an obviously new waiter, no disrespect, everyone is new at some point, but even before our food order was placed, they were out of Miller lite, we were not given silverware, the coffee I ordered was cold and my husband at the age of 64 was carded by a kid no older than 20, it was pretty comical, there is snow on the roof, he is well past 21! The food was slow to come out, my husband had ordered soup, cam out at the same time as the rest of the meal, my coffee refill was also cold so do a second time I had to ask for a different cup of coffee, and the prices! A chicken fried steak with 2 sides, a Friday fish dinner special, a side cup of soup a coffee and 2 blue moon cans of beer, over $41.00! Add in tip $50 out the door. Again, not going to disrespect the service, he was nervous and it showed, but I would assume hot coffee and soup should be expected, running out of the cheap ($3.99) beer should not happen, the blue moon's were $4.49 each which in my opinion is a little excessive, but it was the cold coffee that did it for me, happens once, I can take it in stride, twice was the game changer. First off we ordered lunch/ dinner and white cheddar cheese bites. The bites came 25 minutes after we ordered they were FILLED WITH GREASE. Then the main dinner came catfish Filets that where not done , I took a nice piece on one to show the server. She took it back said they would re cook the whole meal . NOPE THAT WAS NOT THE CASE THEY BOUGHT BACK THE SAME FISH I GAVE BACK . THEN THE SERVER SAID TO ME THEY PUT IT BACK IN THE GREASE. Then I ask for a manager she came over and notified me that they dropped the fish back in the GREASE. I informed her that was unsanitary and she stated I would have waited an additional 8 min . And I said well that's the proper thing to do. Next the meat loaf was not done at all tap it with my finger and it just fell apart. ordered fried chicken NOT DONE. My husband ordered a cheese burger with raw onions he got None on his burger waited 15 min for onions. When he finally got the onions his burger was COLD. To sum it up I ordered a cheeseburger got NO FRYS why you ask because the manager Angel substituted my free starter for the cheeseburger meal. I asked will we be compensated for all the trouble we been caused and she said NO I'm helping with your order already. This is our first time here and LAST.
