I'm honestly not sure why there are so many negative reviews on Yelp--every time I come to Mount Airy, Cracker Barrel is a go-to stop for my family and me, and it has never disappointed. We've been coming here for several years in a row, and the consistency in both the food and service has been great. We stopped in for lunch today as a group of 7, and everything was spot on. Our server, Taylor B., was absolutely excellent--attentive, friendly, and kept everything running smoothly without missing a beat. I ordered the meatloaf with fried apples and mashed potatoes, and it was fantastic. The meatloaf was flavorful and perfectly cooked, the apples were warm and sweet, and the mashed potatoes were classic comfort food. If you're in Mount Airy and looking for a solid, satisfying meal with great service, don't let the low ratings scare you off. Cracker Barrel continues to deliver every time for us! read more

I decided to have breakfast Monday morning, I was seated. I waited 10 mins for a waitress,no one! I decided to leave. I won't be back

1- The biscuits were cold 2- Even though there is a "Soup of the Day" option.... There really is no option. 3- Two chicken noodle soups ordered came out VERY cold. (Sent both back but my kid refused another one due to how bad it was to take a spoonful of cold chicken noodle soup) 4- STEAMED broccoli was very cold.... My friend didn't return it because we were tired of returning cold food 5- They tried to charge me for the 1 returned soup because apparently sending it back due to it being from the refrigerator was not a good excuse. 6- Service was poor as well. A great experience. Everything ran smoothly. Food service was efficent, good quality and quantity of food. The wait staff very present. We eat out for lunch most every day and are used to higher end restaurants. The last time I reviewed a Cracker Barrel I deservedly trashed it and the manager. This is the second Cracker Barrel in the past month that we had a good experience. I chatted with the manager at this location. If memory serves, his name is Tom. Apparently he took over this location 6 months back. He was very present on the floor. Running a retail or eatery location is not easy, doing both simultaneously is difficult at best. Retaining and motivating staff is not easy - especially when dealing with folks who are not paid all that much, Tom excels at this, On the retail side, the staff got you thur the line quickly. The last thing I want after a meal is being held up on the way out, They immediately reacted to a rush and opened 3 registers in a heart beat. In closing I would discount all reviews over 6 months ago, before the arrival of current manager. C B stock (CBRL) is trading at year to date lows, and their finanicals are not good (about a .5 current ratio and robbing Peter to pay 3.7% dividends). I suspect there will be a closing of many locations. I hope this location survives, under current management it deserves to. read more

took 10 minutes before our waitress arrived. Very slow service. Our order was wrong ask for Beacon well done it was so soggy had to send back. Waitress was rude after that. We ask for 2 more biscuits and was told they would charge us. I ask for a manager told him our fist 2 biscuits were so small one bite and done , He said he would get us 2 more no charge. She returned and threw our biscuits done walked away. Got our bill and she charged us $2.99 for 2 more small ones. So we returned bad service with a 2 cent tip!!!! At first I was wanting Cracker Barrel then we ordered me and my grandpa got coffee and water but he didn't get his water after 20 MINUTES like why does it take so long to get water dang it coffee was warm AT BEST then we asked for biscuits no big deal the waitress said we'll get that ready for ya before food comes then takes 25 minutes to get them then she gave us the biscuits in the biscuit tray so they don't have to give it on the plate they put THEN WORSE OF ALL grandpa order egg , has brown country ham, gravy for the biscuits she didn't bring the gravy the ham was the size of my palm btw my palm isn't big and then they cooked the ham that we didn't ask for them to do trike they tried to get more to cook so they would make us pay . There was a worker with Hep C working with an open wound bleeding on the food. Food is terrible at this location. Not seasoned. Meat loaf is raw. Dumplings are either dry or watery. Hash brown casserole is almost always burnt and dry. Service sucks except a few people. Management is even worse. They allow bullying and discrimination at this location. They also make their employees feel like their jobs are on the line if they do not vote a certain way. Ambiance is terrible, you can hear employees yelling in the back. read more

Arrived with my registered service dog and asked for a seat in the corner. Was seated in a high traffic area, and we asked our server to move. Upon moving to a corner table, we were told by a different server that ours was a table for 4 and asked to move again. This was odd because there were 6 empty 4-top tables around us. After a few minutes, we ordered with Emmy, a bubbly young woman. We received our beverages. We were chatting with the next table, as they admired our well-behaved service dog. Suddenly, the manager Tim walks over and asks us to leave. He told us we cursed at the waitress, and he had witness that heard us. I was stunned! I believe I was discriminated against for being handicapped and having a service dog. It was an incredibly awkward and uncomfortable experience. I'll give it two stars, since the food (what little there was of it) was good. We've been here many, many times -- never disappointed. The wait staff is excellent, the wait time short and sweet. BUT, the other day. . . We ordered 'to-go' two roast beef dinners with mashed potatoes/gravy and fried apples. A favorite meal for both of us. Peeked in the bag, no gravy! Thank goodness we were still on site -- the waitress brought us two cups to add to the bag. Should have looked more... The fried apples -- one cup weighed in 156g, the other 102. The gravy? Food - biscuits were undercooked. Sticky and not golden brown. Service - excellent service from our waitress. Coffee was hot and my cup was always full. My wife's iced tea was also always full. Prompt attention to us even though she was taking care of quite a few tables. Checkout - a joke! I stood in a line that didn't move. The man behind me in line also remarked on this. Hard to read interface on credit card reader. Older people were having trouble reading it. Gift area - cluttered to the point it is difficult to walk around when others are in the area. Not a great selection. Back to food - over easy eggs were extremely runny and not hot. Wondering about cooking eggs to a certain temperature? All in all everything had good flavor. The waitress from very kind, polite, and attentive. We sat over an hour waiting for food. The waitresses started bringing out all of the tables that had been waiting forever a plate of biscuits. It wouldn't have been that big of a deal if the food came out hot. It was luke-warm at best. My wife's gravy was goopy and thick. Could've laid bricks with it lol. My catfish was dry and hard. Hasbrown casserole... oh lord I never thought I'd ever say the casserole was nasty, but it was at this location. Huge pieces of onion, and the onion was so stout it made my eyes water. I have no idea what the kitchen was doing, but this wasn't it. I had never been to this Cracker Barrel location, and to say in the least I was disappointed by the food, but not the customer service. I have been to cracker barrels throughout the south. I typically go to the one in Clemmons. Today I found myself in Mt Airy on business and thought, I'm tired of fast food lets get good food. The wait wasn't long, so the store, like normal, comes in handy to waste time. I would enjoyed the rocking chairs had it not been for the rain. After a few minutes They take us to our table, and it is dirty. The hostess takes the high chair, and after a couple of minutes a lady, later we find out is our server, is sweeping the floor. She comes back and ask us if we were ready to order. We hadn't placed a drink order but that's fine we were ready. I asked for them to bring out biscuits while we waited. The drinks and biscuits come out about 5 mins later. About 20 plus minutes later our food arrives. I had the chicken fried chicken, I asked for the gravy on the side. I honestly have to say the best thing I had was the broccoli. The chicken really had no flavor. Guess that is why they cover it in the gravy. I wanted to put my gravy on my biscuit. The gravy was also very bland. My sister in law and I both had the hash brown casserole. She asked me if mine tasted odd, glad she noticed it as well. It was way heavy with onion. The service was the worst though. Our waitress kept disappearing for long periods of time. Our drinks were not filled once during our 20 odd minutes wait. After our food arrived the runner noticed our glasses were empty and asked what we had. Then Our waitress shows up and asked how everything was, mid mouthful. Before I could swallow what I had she disappeared. She then walked by and points to my very empty glass, and fairly full plate of food and says you want a refill? No I will start drink the ketchup. I rode with family for over an hour to get to this Cracker Barrel to eat dinner. We were sat down immediately and patiently waited for over 20 minutes for someone to get our drinks, take our order, or even acknowledge our presence. The manager, Jack, made direct eye contact with us several times but never came over to check. After about 25 minutes, I took our menus to the hostess and told her to tell the manager that 25 minutes was too long to wait for someone to wait on us and we were leaving. I called the restaurant while we were waiting on our food at another nearby restaurant and asked for the manager. He confirmed seeing us and said that he was going to come check on us but we had already left. We had a very short conversation in which I told him how this was unlike any cracker barrel experience I have had before and I didn't think his attitude and actions aligned with their business model and he hung the phone up on me. Pintos over cooked, looked like retried beans from Mexican restaurant down the street. Waitress never refilled tea glass. Poor experience. Cashier did not ask if meal was good, would have told her. Wife and I decided to give Cracker Barrel another try after a bad experience a couple of months ago, we shouldn't have. It was mid-morning so the wait was nil. Waitress was prompt and polite. The food was another story, I ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of hash brown casserole and sausage. The gravy was luke warm as was the potatoes and sausage, THe gravy also had the consistency of thick wallpaper paste and was just barely warm. One of the three biscuits looked like it was a reject, not even brown but half done. All in all I was mad as hell but controlled myself and will use this vehicle to show my displeasure. read more

My family and I came into the Mount Airy, NC location and had dinner. The service was fantastic. The waitress was very kind, and the cashier interacted so kindly to my youngest daughter. The exceptional service came later. I had to place a to-go order. We left and got caught up for over an hour. I came back to pick up my food and they had took it away, stating they didn't like for it to stay out that long. The manager, Tim asked me what I had and said give me 4 minutes. He came back in less time than that, didn't charge me, offered a cold drink, and was just a wonderful manager to his entire crew. This experience was just all around wonderful. Worst food I have eaten in a good while. Had the BBQ Cider chicken with Mashed potatoes and gravy. The Chicken was supposed to have chutney on it with cider BBQ. What was there lacked flavor! The picture on their online menu and the description were not what they served. The mashed potatoes had no salt and the gravy had way to much salt. The entire meal was a total waste of money. Cracker Barrel needs to give them some lessons on refilling drinks, remembering orders and asking if one needs anything else. I went a few days ago, but I have not had the initiative to write a review. Now that I do, I must say this is quite honestly one of the best Cracker Barrels have I ever been inside of (the others being in Statesville and Jonesville). As expected, this Cracker Barrel does feature a nice little country store that you can browse around while you are waiting to be seated. I will admit that the wait time is a little too long, but if you understand this place just has recently opened, you won't mind the wait because it is PACKED. Upon sitting down, I went and started off ordering a water and coffee. Me being a coffee fanatic, I tend to like my coffee strong, so it was weak in comparison to my preference. But once the main course was served, it was excellent! I had the Country Boy Breakfast (three eggs, hashbrown casserole, baked apples, choice of meat, sawmill gravy, grits and biscuits) with the choice of a ribeye for my meat. Everything was cooked exactly to my preferences (med-rare on the steak, over medium on the three eggs). The food was definitely excellent, and it does have a great atmosphere. Overall, if it weren't for the whole star rating system, I would give it a 4.5/5. My only complaint is the coffee. I take mine black, so I tend to prefer a stronger taste for coffee and it just feel like it was rather weak. But don't let that take away from this place, because it offers amazing food, great service, and an amazing atmosphere. Definitely go! read more

10 minute wait to be seated for breakfast. Not bad. Took to a table in a timely manner. Once seated it took 10 minutes to order drinks. We went ahead and ordered our food at the same time. Once we ordered, we waited patiently and noticed people around us who were seated after got there food. Our waitress came by and brought our sons cereal. My wife's food came out 5 minutes after. My wife was able to finish her breakfast before my food was ever brought out. The waitress said she didn't want my food to be cold, so I'm trying to understand how it could be cold if it just came up. This lead me to believe our food had been ready for a while just sitting there. Once my food came, I asked for my biscuits to go with it, they never came so I just ate the one my wife didn't want. For refills she came and took my wife's cup and straw, then forgot to bring it out until I asked for the check. I'm just glad my 5 month old is breastfed so he atleast got to eat in a timely manner. Everyone else was being served in a timely and efficient manner. The employee who I assume is the manager, just stood with the table washer and talked. She never moved or asked anyone how their food was. Needless to say I will not be visiting this Cracker Barrel anytime soon. I love Cracker Barrel food and visit them often. We three were there, two of us on a cane. One medically retired Veteran and one age retired elderly woman with a cane. They were not busy and had seats available. They would not seat us till the other two retired disabled Veterans were there which was in about ten minutes or less. They were going to make us stand there waiting for the other two to show up before she would let us have a seat. There was NO one waiting in front of us to get seats and NO one waiting behind us for seats either. We were in a lull and they had seats avaialble but refused to let me sit. i do not try to pull rank nor do I try to cut in front of others because I am disabled. This place has gone significantly down hill lately. The last time we came I got fries with my food as a side and literally counted 5. For my side I got FIVE fries. Portion sizes in other aspects have been disappointing as well. My sister in law got meatloaf, and it was cut so skinny you could literally see through it. Finally, the last several times we have been here the service is awful. Can't get a waiter/waitress that will pay attention or fill drinks. I have ate at many cracker barrells though out the east coast. This has to be in the top three worst I have ever visited. We had to wait for a table which is find except they kept taking people back who had arrived after my party. After being seating it took over 15 mins to place our order, I had to get up and find someone to do that. Our food arrived very quickly and was typical Cracker Barrell food which was good. Our dinks were never refilled during our meal. The manage walked around and never inacted with any customers. The staff seemed very confused and the hostess was as about as friendly as a knot on a log.
