I haven't been to a Cracker Barrel in years. I was taking my mom out for lunch and she wanted to go to the Cracker Barrel. We both got the fried catfish with 2 sides. I got the steak fries and mac and cheese, and mom got the mash potatoes and gravy And broccoli... The food was delicious and reasonably priced...40$ for the two of us. My traveling companions wanted to stop here on our drive back to New York and I was dying for a sandwich which they don't really have too many sandwich options and I didn't notice a 'lighter' menu either. They had a special with turkey stuffing and cranberry on a sandwich so I opted for that but unfortunately they were all out. I love cracker barrels. This one was no different. They have a great store with unique things whether it's candy or souvenirs. They have the rocking chairs and the store is first. You can get check in for a table to eat right by the entrance of the restaurant portion. It wasn't too busy and no wait when I was there but general rule is they can get busy for lunch. There is nothing bad or even not good to say. I will say that our server was very cautious not to touch the food hanging off the plate when trying to maneuver it to the table which wasn't easy because of how the pancakes were put on the plate and the way he carried it out. The pancakes were perfectly crisp on the edges, just the way we all like it. I had to sub in a spicy chicken sausage and it was so so good. I love Cracker Barrel, but this location was probably one of the worst ones I've been to. I especially felt bad for our server because he was so slammed, and the table behind us was giving him a miserable time. The food just wasn't good. The eggs came out slimy, the hash brown casserole was either over or undercooked. I couldn't really tell lol. The bacon was definitely sitting in grease and not cooked all the way. Again, they were slammed so this isn't necessarily their fault, but they sat us and then we waited...I'm not joking like 10-15 minutes for someone to touchdown on our table. I can't emphasize enough how bad I felt for our server. And I hope people know that when they go to these chain restaurants, it's not the servers's fault if the kitchen is being slow, or if they get over-sat in their section. Pile that on with a difficult customer like the one behind us who came with a literal (not kidding) $10 budget and the poor guy had to adjust the menu for her which made it so she would be getting half portions in order to serve for what she wanted. And then the lady had the audacity to go back-and-forth with him after he explained this is what the kitchen can do if you don't want to spend more than this lol. Just absolutely insane, but you never know what you're getting at Cracker Barrel lol. Almost inexplicably you can't get an omelette here but after wading through the honky tonk mercantile of country music CDs and sarsaparilla flavored licorice, what you can get here are grits. Never had them and in my omelette-free despair I tried something new and -- whoa doggie, I am a fan. I usually order through their website and pick it up in-store since the process is always painless, easy, and straightforward. If it's busy, you might have to wait in line with other customers paying their bills, but if you go during off-hours (like lunchtime during the week), you can be in and out in no time lickety-split. The weekends around dinnertime are certainly the busiest, so it's good to go earlier or later if you're doing dine-in. Now, one of my favorite things about Cracker Barrel is the store inside, filled with trinkets and items to browse while you wait to be seated if you do dine in. It's a nice touch that makes every visit feel more special and nostalgic. I always look forward to eating at Cracker Barrel. I was happy to see that this one still had the original logo and decor. Menu was pretty much the same. I ordered my usual chicken and dumplings with corn and mashed potatoes. My cousin ordered the meatloaf. Both meals came with yummy biscuits which were wonderful. I wish I would have specified white gravy on my potatoes because they came with a brown gravy instead. The taste of potatoes and my corn was good. The dumplings tasted yummy too but were definitely not as great as they used to be. Dumplings used to be nice flat rectangular dumplings but are now a pile of smushed dumplings - some not cooked through. Please go back to original recipe. Chicken was sparse but good. This family restaurant is the perfect place for families or groups to enjoy great food. You arrive to see a very pretty sitting area outside which is very welcoming. Inside they have a fun little shop where you can browse around novelty items and cute unique items. They have everything from candy to clothing. The staff was friendly and were very attentive. They made sure we had everything we needed to have a great meal together. The food was delicious from the fluffy scrambled eggs to the tasty French toast! The French toast came with a cute little syrup bottle that is heated which is perfect with the French toast. That's a nice touch! This was my first stop at a Cracker Barrel in a few years and all I could think about was the fried okra. We arrived around 4:30 pm on a Sunday night. It wasn't overly busy but there were a good amount of guests. Our server was very nice but at times seemed like they disappeared for a bit. Not a big issue. I get everyone needs breaks and has other obligations throughout their shifts. After taking our order the server brought out biscuits and cornbread. The biscuits were great. Warm. Airy. Flakey. The cornbread consistency was perfect but were kind of tasteless. I went with my go-to order of Chicken Fried Chicken with 3 sides: turnip greens, fried okra, and green beans. The portion sizes are huge. Two large pieces of chicken, lots of green beans, and a bigger than expected bowl of turnip greens. I wouldn't say the food quality is great, but for the amount of food you get the prices are very good. Our table also ordered fried chicken tenders, grilled tenders, and fried shrimp. Lots of orders of the fried okra which never disappoints. Steak fries were potato-y but dry. Breading on the fried chicken tastes really good and so does the marinade for the grilled tenders. The gravy served with the chicken fried chicken is so good that someone at our table asked for a side of it for their tenders. All in all our experience at Cracker Barrel was good. Service was good. Food, all things considered (quality wise and being a chain), was good. Will definitely be back. A nice, laid back and casual dinner. The term boondocks originates from the Tagalog (Filipino) word bundók which translates to "mountain" but generally means a remote area. Someone who is what out in the middle of nowhere is in the boondocks. And someone who is RVing off the grid is "boondocking." To take the term a little further, someone who is camped out at a Cracker Barrel is "Crackerdocking." A portmanteau of the highest order! Like many/most Cracker Barrels, this one in New Jersey tolerates overnight parking and for that, I am most appreciative. As long as you're respectful by not "camping" or lighting up a grill, and you leave the place as clean as you found it, they don't mind you parking here. As a favor for that courtesy, they'd like you to buy a meal. That's a fair deal. I arrived Monday night at 9:20 pm. I came inside to use the restroom and retired to the van for the night. It was quiet and peaceful. I was not disturbed. In the morning, I popped in for an enjoyable breakfast. One of my faults of Cracker Barrel was that they don't have wifi. That's changed and they do have a hotspot! My waitress was friendly, my eggs were basted (they don't do poaching) and I did eat a nibble off of one of the biscuits (keto diet!). In addition to the ridiculous wait time, Cracker Barrel was "out of" almost everything including the Mother's Day specials and staples like corn bread and very basic items. The servers were not attentive. We sat for long periods of time without being checked on and we had to keep asking for our server to place drinks and appetizers which did not come in a timely manner. We kept being told there was a back up which is a testament to inadequate staffing and poor planning on the part of leadership. Mother's Day is not the day to be understaffed and understocked. The Cracker Barrel in Mount Laurel, New Jersey is one of my favorite restaurants I have ever been to. This food is out of this world delicious. My usuals are: the Homestyle Fried Chicken Salad, and the Strawberry Stuffed Cheesecake Pancake Breakfast. The chicken in the salad makes me crave it instantly after I eat it, until I eat it again. Also, the cheesecake filling has just the right consistency. The pancakes are fluffy and light, and the salad is hearty and the perfect flavor. The fried apples are warm, and the compote is sweet, and not too thick. The service is usually very quick, and the servers are kind. The ambiance is great, and when the fireplace is on in the winter, it gives the restaurant the perfect finishing touch of coziness. I had 'Momma's Breakfast' French toast with eggs and bacon and water to drink with it. Everything came out delicious and yummy as always. Arrived at 7:30 PM after traveling all afternoon and staying in the hotel next to the restaurant. No other walkable food option in the business park, and I am not signed up with food delivery services. Just wanted a nice warm meal. I Waited at least 10 minutes for the hostess to get to the podium. Finally got one of the waiters attention, asked if they were still serving and I was a party of 1 (myself). The hostess finally comes to the podium, I give her my name and number and she said it would be 15 minutes And they will call me. I guess I overwhelmed them with my party of one. It's now 9:00PM AND STILL NO CALL. The restaurant was relatively empty and dinner rush was about over maybe 5 tables in the restaurant with patrons. Noticed plenty of wait staff going in and out of the kitchen. Maybe there was only one cook? The worst service and I don't believe I will ever go to another Cracker Barrel again.
