Cracker Barrel conjures up memories from childhood thru young adulthood and beyond. They were prevalent in KY and IN through most of my travels and were the sit-down restaurant of choice between destinations. As a child, it was my parents' favorite and carried over to mine, as well, later as a reminder of days gone by and memories. This particular visit I was on the way back to Pittsburgh from my trek to Ricketts Glen State Park, saw the roadside sign, and, being hungry anyway, took the designated exit without a second thought. It had been quite awhile since visiting one. It immediately elicited fond memories. Sometimes, it is, indeed, good to have familiarity. Everything was familiar from the white porch rocking chairs to the gift shop to the decor of old signs, tools, and picture frames hung on the walls. The menu looked different so I implored of my server, Patty, if they still served what I recalled to be a vegetable plate where you pick items? Yes, she said and pointed on the menu to the country vegetable plate in which you select 4 items. Yum! This is what I used to order so I proceeded to select my favs -- green beans (you know, the good kind, cooked a long time and seasoned with the equivalent of lard), hash brown casserole, fried apples, and dumplins. (Yeah, yeah, "vegetables" is a misnomer). Then I opted for biscuits and asked for appebutter to complete my meal of memories. It did not disappoint. It was exactly as I remembered and hit every sensory nerve taking me back to when my parents were alive, college days when they would visit me, my first marriage road trips even (when we would rent an audio book from one Cracker Barrel for 5 dollars and return it to another along the way). And now, intermittently, as where I live and travel, the restaurant isn't as prevalent. But, oh, I am so glad they do exist. I finished up my visit by perusing the gift shop and buying a gift. I will always visit a Cracker Barrel, usually during my road trips. It is a fine and true tradition. read more

Nothing was fresh. Chicken Fried Chicken had gristle that ended my meal on impact. Hash brown casserole was limp and sad. Eggs were slimy. Coffee was hot enough to sterilize surgical equipment but somehow still burned. Server was young and okay. Cashier sent me into a full meltdown over a gift card. My wife told me to go to the car. I vaped in the parking lot like a man in emotional triage. And yes -- I was emotionally hustled into buying a Reese's on the way out just to reset my palate and recover a sliver of joy. Date of our visit was 06/27/22. Of the many times we have dined at a CB restaurant, this was the first time we had breakfast. My wife had the Old Timers, eggs over medium with tomatoes and fresh fruit. I had the build your own, eggs over medium with hash brown casserole and meat sampler. Both meals came with biscuits and gravy. Eggs were cooked as ordered but mine were cold. The best part of the meal was the biscuits and gravy. Located right off the highway and next to the Lycoming mall. Eat and then you can walk to any of the stores in this big complex. The standard Cracker Barrel fare was even more wonderful due to the happy, friendly service here. I was checked on numerous times while eating. My server was very pleasant and attentive. I couldn't escape the premises without shopping at their store. There I found some huge pre-season bargains on some Christmas decorations. And I found some great hostess gifts. What was really pleasant was how I never felt pressured or rushed and yet when I had a question there was someone nearby to help. So my main reasons for posting today is that there have been so many changes to how sides are offered. We frequent Cracker Barrels in all different locations. For healthy alternatives in sides that aren't starchy, a few years ago, they offered cottage cheese. Well that changed. Okay...I'll let that pass. Sweet potatoes used to be an alternative to a regular potato. But of course, that's now a PREMIUM side and served with huge marshmallows. Sorry, don't need those. The nuts are nice with it but the marshmallows are a bit over the top. It's a non-issue anyway because geez, why did that have to go to a premium selection? Then they offered a Brussel Sprout Kale salad. That was really good. I mean, really good. I was very surprised that this option was taken from the menu. Very disappointed too because when I posted on FB to my friends, I got a lot of responses back of how they loved this side option. Now, to add insult to injury, a house salad is an upcharge. REally? A house salad is taken off the "given" side options? Please guys, bad move. REally bad move. I like the Fried shrimp platter and it used to come with 3 sides. Now that's a lot of sides when you are trying to look for healthy options that don't include starches and now all your faves are gone or upcharge selections. It had 2 sides. Okay fine. But now it comes with fries. Wow.....sorry CB, but that's just freakin sad. I get the whole "fish and chips" deal, but if I really wanted that, it would choose that side option. I mean, are steak fries an upcharge now too? I hope you change your stance on offering sides. I guess my suggestion would be if I prefer a house salad, I'll skip the fries and the two "free" side selections but I'd probably have to pay more anyway. Nice of thinking about the good choices for your customers since I'm sure you are way more interested in your bottom line. Epic fail there for me, Cracker Barrel. read more

When I was younger, the bland cooking of Cracker Barrel didn't impress me. As I've gotten older, the portion amount versus price offered at Cracker Barrel now impresses me. Cracker Barrel is "southern style" cooking, so it fills you up, but is not exciting. This restaurant is located in the Lycoming Crossing, near the Lycoming Mall. Standard Cracker Barrel layout, entering though the packed gift shop with narrow walkways. I do enjoy the selection of classic glass bottle sodas they stock, as it's often hard to find such older sodas. Restaurant is decorated with vintage and distressed items. Fancy Fixin's menu comes with three sides (an impressive amount) and corn muffins/biscuits. I generally go for the Fried Shrimp unless the Pot Roast is on special. Service is fine and food arrives in a fair amount of time. The Lycoming Mall area is odd due to its lack of restaurants (including many of the newest fast casual options) and in an area with limited food options, Cracker Barrel is fine for a meal. read more

Every time that I am in the states I have to stop at a Cracker Barrel for breakfast! This location was amazing! They had inside & outside seating for guests. The staff were wearing masks! Tonight I took my kids here for dinner and my son ordered the kids fried chicken tenders. After he had already eaten two I noticed it was still raw on the inside. I am absolutely mortified and PRAY to god he doesn't get good poisoning due to some idiot in the kitchen not paying attention to what they are doing!! Our first thanksgiving meal in America and it was pretty good and cheap....most of the restaurants in the area even McDonald's were closed on thanksgiving day, this place was packed for lunch....I love this place and I wish we had places like this in Canada....their food was soooooo dirt cheap and the decor was pretty neat, very old country style with a fireplace and woodbuilt cabin feeling I ordered the thanksgiving turkey dinner which came with turkey, ham, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, one side of your choice(got the dumpling, didn't like it), cranberry, drink of your choice and a slice of pie all for $11.99, can't find that in Canada Service was great and food came out quick and pipping hot read more

This is the second review I have written. But got no response, so I write it again. My husband and I were going to be alone for Thanksgiving, so we decided to order a turkey dinner from Cracker Barrel near the the Lycoming Mall. I called in the morning to pick up the 2 meals at 2:00 at the back door, which my husband did. The meals, with a $5.00 tip cost us $32. 54. It was horrible. There was slimy fat on the turkey, I did eat around that, the green beans were like mush, there was about a tablespoon of cranberry sauce in one cup and about 1/2 teaspoon in the other. I love your sweet potato casserole, but this was very runny, as if thinned down to spread the amount. The ham piece was dried out and very small. The pie had a very strong taste of nutmeg. I ate the turkey, and the rest of the meal went down the disposal. My husband ate a bit more than I did, then he threw the rest away. I love Cracker Barrel and go there at least every other month with a friend for lunch. I don't know what happened to the Thanksgiving meal and pray the larger parties that pick meals up weren't as disappointed as we were. L read more

We have been long time customers of cracker barrel but after tonight this was the last time. Was told the wait would be 45 minutes and it ended up 1 hour and 15 minutes before we were seated... I wouldn't have been so mad if parties our size that came after us didny get seated before us! Manager kept saying you are next but kept taking more people! After being seated we were given drinks and no biscuits... meanwhile other tables again seated after us got their biscuits and food. Today my husband surprised my 3 daughter in laws and I with a Mother's Day meal(take out). The food we received was delicious but they forgot to give us the drinks plus 2 sides plus numerous other things. They however did not discover this until they got home..40 minutes later. This place can be hit or miss with the quality of the food. I ordered the chicken and dumplings once here and it was pretty bad, very bland, not much chicken, loaded with dumplings. The gravy was tasteless. I don't recommend it. We arrived at about 1 o'clock in the afternoon. The special that day was chicken pot pie, which I also don't recommend. A group of people sat down next to us and ordered the chicken pot pie. The server told them they were out of chicken pot pie. This business has been in operation for quite some time now, you'd think they would have a rough idea of how many chicken pot pies are eaten typically on the special day because they repeat every week! So that group of people was disappointed, and had to go for the chicken dumplings, yuk. Today I ordered the turkey sandwich which was quite delicious, actual sliced pieces of turkey as you can see in the picture I took. This was the first item I actually thought was good at this restaurant. My wife had a grilled chicken salad which was very good too! Stopped at this Cracker Barrel for breakfast yesterday on our way home from a camping trip a little further upstate. We love Cracker Barrels in general because of the atmosphere and the homey Southern style food, not to mention the prices are pretty good for the amount of food that you get. The service was just right at this location and all the food that we ordered was great. I was excited to fill my craving for Country Fried Steak and Gravy and theirs definitely hit the spot. The best thing about Cracker Barrel is that they are consistent from place to place. They are all very dependable. When I arrived I was greeted warmly and I was quickly seated. The place was very busy (like every Cracker Barrel I've been to) but it wasn't crowded. My server came quickly and took my order. There was a reasonable amount of time from ordering to when the food arrived. When it did arrive, it was very hot and fresh. I had the country fried steak and it was hot and not greasy. The veggie sides were fresh, too. The flavor was great and it was good dining experience. My server gave me just the right amount of service--there when I needed a drink refill but not annoying. Why is it so freaking cold in this restaurant. Your patrons want to be comfortable while eating, not shivering and huddled together to keep warm. This is probably the eighth time I've been here with this problem and each time we say something to an employee we get a response like "Oh but its so nice in here" or "I didn't notice because I'm wearing a sweater". Yum. I love the atmosphere. And, I think a lot of customers go for the little store and quaint family feel. All food here is delicious. And, tastes homemade. Staff is always polite and helpful. Food always comes out within 20 minutes even when busy. When busy you do have to wait in the store area for X amount of time. But, due to the store- it goes by quickly. I work at the adjoining regional Lycoming Mall and eat breakfast just before work before noon three days a week. There wait staff is extraordinary! Food is semi commissary... but ...prepared with much care. I even eat here on a couple days off when near by. The BLT's here are really awesome and I do not say that lightly. Crisp bacon and nicely toasted sour dough toast kicks it up. And those little pickles taste good too. I only gave 3 stars as the majority of the menu is for those who do not mind the concept of an early grave. Overall too calorically dense topped with very scary high sodium levels. Just recently our visit made me want to give this location a favorable review due to the excellent service of a Mr. Ian W.
