Oh May's what happened?! Went today and there were flies EVERYWHERE. The hamburger bbq tasted like the plastic container it must have been in. The tables and condiment area were dirty. We sat outside and it looked junky out there--boards, hoses, barrels laying around. Parts of the overhang are falling down. I'm so sad that this is happening. So, I wanted a hamburger but had about $4 in cash for a regular hamburger on me. Oddly, the sweet gal who was ringing me up couldn't find the option for a regular hamburger, only the 1/4 lb hamburger. So, I opted for something I could afford today... a delectable hot dog! Decent enough if you're seeking cheap eats, throwback style all the way. Folks in their fifties and up should feel right at home, kids too. Food isn't fancy by any means but I found no reason to be unhappy. Walk-in service works like this, so you don't look like a complete newbie. Peruse the menu on the wall, walk up to the counter, place your order. Pay up and they give you a coin sized token with a number on it. They'll call you up when ready. Oh, ice cream was more pleasing than the food, a good choice. A great choice if that's all you want. Only three stars? Like it says "A-OK". May's is a local chain of fast food restaurants. You order and you get a little red plastic disc with a number. Then your food is prepared, not sitting under heat lamps like at the big chains. Then they call your number and you get to enjoy some of the best fast food around. And then after you're done, go up and order ice cream. Not a few items, but soft ice cream, hard ice cream, sundaes, banana splits, milk shakes, etc. And the ice cream is good too. Of all of the May's location, I think the Bloomsburg location has the best service (not that the others have poor service). And don't think about taking one of the animal trash can tops as a souvenir after the place closes. They take them in at closing to prevent them from being in dorm rooms and fraternities. read more

We found this place via Yelp and it seems to have some good reviews. We stopped by after a long day and it delivered as many of the reviews said it would. There is no table service but the window service was friendly and fun! We had a pretty large group and the food came out pretty quickly - at a very, very reasonable price - especially the prices for kid's items. My only complaint and it's very minor would be that some of the fries were very greasy as they were a little undercooked, but only a couple of the many servings we had - not a reason to skip in the future! When in the area I am guessing we will swing by again. read more

We make May's a stop on every I-80 road trip. It's worth a few miles of extra driving off the Interstate. It's just honest American roadside food... a real throwback. And it is spotless. You can tell the owners care. Everything is good, I savor the pierogi done the PA way. They used to have a squirrel playground out back. That's gone now, too bad. There is outside seating. This place is fun. The animal head garbage can lids outside are a pretty good indication. I always try to find a booth in the room with the view of the squirrel (and bird) park another poster mentioned. Because of the woodsy or brushy terrain, you can see a good variety of birds. We've seen wild turkeys wandering through. Food is made to order. Sandwiches are good. I like the grilled chicken, and I like adding my own tomato, lettuce, dressing, etc. at the fixings bar. Fries and onion rings (real onions not that reconstituted stuff) are hard to resist. The ice cream and shakes are great, so either save room or plan a separate trip. read more

Waited at counter, outside counter, for ice cream/milkshakes and there were three different people outside waiting to order ice cream. I asked in the window not they had a person just for ice cream they said yes and the one lady said she was waiting 15 min already the lady inside said hot food goes first but she said they had a pesto. Specifically for ice cream. Then they shut the blinds on window so we couldn't speak to the workers anymore. This is the third horrible experience this year! read more

Our dining experience at Mays tonight is horrible. Still waiting for the pizza. No one put it in the oven. My grilled chicken sandwich was a pitiful cut less than 1/4 size piece of grisly chicken that tasted more boiled than grilled. The bun bottom was soggy and had to be discarded. I had to request my water a second time. The usually good fries were overdone and cold. I asked the server about the size of the chicken on my sandwich. Just the way it is. We have eaten here many times and never a problem before now. Hopefully the quality improves. Tonights meal inspires me to write first ever yelp review. read more

i am a fan of bbq. i love it every way it comes - st. louis-style, texas-style, north carolina-style...but my favorite might be bloomsburg-style.* pork is the best, followed by ham. chicken tends to be too moist/stringy. all versions taste even better when served on the grounds of the bloomsburg fair. and if you don't get yours with relish, you're not really having it bloomsburg-style. oh wait - there's other things that are important to eat here! teaberry ice cream. vmp (vanilla/marshmallow/peanut sundae). the end. *(for the record, i know it's a hot, loose meat sandwich and not "really" bbq by classical standards. but it is meat and it tastes good and if it wants to be called bbq, who am i or anyone else to judge?) read more

Stopped here twice over a week period and had a pork BBQ sandwich which was substandard...if that. It was basically what appeared to be lunchmeat on a bun with no BBQ sauce. Ended with a mixed cone which was pretty good. Second time ordered the "everything pizza" which was also substandard... reminded me of a lousy frozen pizza but when you're hungry, you'll eat it. Also had a mixed cone which was good... the workers at the counter lack personality too...appeared they're miserable working there. I've always had a soft spot for this place. Almost all the food is good, and consistent at all May's locations. All ice cream is good too. They are cheap on their portions with a lot of menu items, but their prices are reasonable. The only thing that's bothersome is they charge you full price for refills on your sodas. They charge you $1.99 for a "large" 16 oz. cup almost full of ice, then I eat a huge $10 salty meal, and now have to spend another $1.99 for a $0.05 refill of soda. But yes, eat here, it takes me back to the days of spending time with my grandparents. read more

Not happy with the food. Not good quality, pierogies were bland, cheesesteak is pathetic, I can make better at home. The toppings for sandwiches is out in the open, no ice to keep it cool and fresh, nats were flying around it and the ketchep tasted nasty. The pizza looked like frozen pizza, yuck. We just went there and ordered a pizza to take home. Pepperoni. When we got home and opened the box, the pepperoni looked a little funny. Suppose to be red right? Ours was brown..with spots of red. I took one bite and realized the pepperoni was rotten. Like out in the sun in a dumpster rotten. And nobody could tell this before it was cooked and served? Wow. NEVER will eat there again. read more
