Wildly overpriced food, average quality at best, erroneous substitutions with lesser cost food options, and misleading marketing in terms of portions. Coming from someone who has dined at Cracker Barrel throughout his entire life and considered the restaurant a true American classic, I'm hopeful for the future of the franchise this experience is an isolated event. We used to come to this location a lot. For various food and service related reasons we stopped years ago. For whatever shortsighted reason we decided to give it another shot. After waiting for 25 minutes after being seated without being spoken to or waited on, we finally gave up and went elsewhere. I sat alone, wearing a military shirt as I am a vet, my server was very slow, messed up my order, then when I asked her to fix my order, she brought me burnt food, I never got my bread. I came to this Cracker Barrel with my two daughters (oldest 18 - youngest 16) as an early back-to-school treat. After we finished our meal, I let my little ones look around the store, and while this was happening, a male host with glasses approached my daughter and asked if she needed help. When she told him no, he proceeded to ask her how old she was and if she had Snapchat. I will not be returning to the restaurant. Okay, for those who know me, I normally don't go to or post about chain stores. The fact is chain joints should be exactly the same. I do, however, post when something stands out, good or bad. Well, this is that occasion. As for the store and food. All decent. That is exactly what you should expect at a Cracker Barrel. Right down to the rockers outside. A solid 3 3/4 star. All tasted decent, cooked well, and came out timely. But the standout was our server. I believe her name was Dev (4-17-25) evening. She was absolutely (5*+) a charm. So doggone friendly and took care of us from start to finish. Made sure we had everything, kept our drinks full, and made sure we were good right till the time we left. Our adult daughter, who was with us, didn't feel her best tonight and Dev took extra loving care, making sure our daughter was as good as possible, even giving her a cool to-go cup of ice and water. So dam thoughtful!! So what I can say if you go here I hope you get her as a server It will make your normal expected Cracker Barrel meal that much better. read more

So I order, via Uber eats as I am no longer driving, the Ma's Sampler - you know the one with 3 buttermilk pancakes the size of a manhole cover. Why only send one small - tiny, even - bottle of syrup? Common sense would suggest that you should include at least the amount of syrup that would be brought to the table if I'd dined in, but apparently common sense is on short supply at this particular location! I even called to make my request just after I placed my order, but -alas! - not even 1 extra syrup. Which subjected me to 3 chokingly thick, dry cakes, as well as a lack of a general feeling of dissatisfaction with my breakfast purchase. Great place for no-nonsense southern/breakfast menu. Our server was friendly, but also seemed to be in a rush since she had many tables to handle. I found the biscuits to be very doughy and undercooked, but the corn muffins were okay (very grainy if that's something you don't like). I ordered the catfish and was surprised by how mild (in a good way) and not-greasy it was! The grits were also great, though I added some hot sauce for flavor. I've come here around 15 times in the last couple months they are usually pretty nice but every time you order curbside it takes 10-30 mins for someone to come out even after driving for 20min to the store. Food is sometimes good but out of the 15 or so times I'd say it's been on the bad side. That's not the only thing they also have forgotten something at least 4 of the times I've come here. Worse service I ever received. Although seated immediately, it took way too long for the server to even come by and take my order. She totally screwed it up and ordered the Country Boy breakfast with 3 eggs and roasted garlic steak tidbits with sugar ham but it took way too long to get and then it was not even hot as if left unattended on kitchen counter too long. I just had the most wonderful experience at Cracker Barrel! Everything was absolutely delicious--from the warm biscuits to the perfectly cooked main course. But the real star of the show was the staff. Dustin, our server, was outstanding--attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. A review of tonight's dinner at Cracker Barrel. To start...NO Corn Bread Muffins, food took forever ( at least 45 min) to be brought to our table. A serving of mashed potatoes wouldn't have filled a soup spoon, food was on the colder side and our friend had scrambled eggs and found egg shells in her eggs. Our server had us sitting at the table over 20 minutes before taking our drink order. Then we waited 10 minutes to get the drinks, by the 30 minute mark she came back to take our order. She was surely towards our group of 8 never smiled or came to bring refills until stopped while helping another table with big smiles. Food for 7 or 8 came out and it took another 20 minutes for the last meal to come out. It was cold and they had to take it back. The manager came out and without asking he removed it from the bill. When the food finally came out hot everyone else was done eating and this caused a big inconvenience and we were on lunch from work. This was a staff appreciation lunch. The waitress then became "grumpy" and mouthing off to her manager behind his back. Saying things like you're messing with my money, because of you I'm not going to get a tip, and more. Since I heard her I politely let her know my tip would be based off her attitude towards me and my staff and lack of attention to our table. To see her smile at the older white people but act the way she did towards my table was uncalled for. Things like that is why people assume someone is racist because myself and 1 employee are white and 6 black. It takes a lot for me to tip only 20% or lower and because of our experience with the waitress she received 20% but I really shouldn't have tipped that much with how upset she acted to be serving us. read more

We did a curbside order and they intentionally hid RANCID bacon into a kids meal. Thought it was weird that my 5 year old niece, who loves bacon, spat it out and didn't touch it the rest of her meal. Chalked it up to "one of those mornings" until my mother took her piece of bacon and bit into it. She promptly gagged and spat it back out, citing the bacon was rancid. Considering all the adult platters also had bacon and they were fine, I took a bite of it too, just to make sure, and I've never ran so fast to spit it out and wash my mouth out. My sister immediately called and after explaining the situation to two different employees, she got repeatedly placed on hold by them both for over half an hour. They seemed to have forgotten about her completely because every time they came back on the line, they thought it was a new call and was surprised to hear it was still my sister. When the manager, Paul, finally came on the line, my sister explained the situation for a third time. His reaction? "Oh." Just "oh." No alarm or concern whatsoever. Then, with complete nonchalance, he said, "I'll refund your daughter's meal. Sorry about that." Not even a sincere apology or saying that he'll look into the situation. Sure, the $5.29 was refunded, but we were looking for reassurance that the issue would be handled and resolved. Because this is a HUGE problem. Hiding rancid meat into a kids meal expecting them to not know the difference and risk getting kids sick is downright despicable. If you frequent this place AND have kids, beware. If you frequent this place and like kids or just fresh food in general, I would urge you to think twice. read more

We have tried the Cracker Barrel on Mayland several times just to see if there is improvement. The answer is no. This restaurant has gone downhill steadily since the end of the pandemic and a little before. The food is never hot and is not flavorful. The mashed potatoes are nowhere near what you see in the pictures. Consistency is more like concrete grout. Staff seems overwhelmed and management does not seem able to cope or none of them appear to know how to manage personnel and run a restaurant. I have already sent a complaint via the website. I am not one to complain but the service here was nothing short of abysmal. I must apologize to our server and the restaurant staff for inconveniencing them with our desire to have a family meal! Not only did I have to practically beg for biscuits/cornbread, when they came out several minutes later, I felt belittled by huge server's dismissive attitude. Not only that, my wife's order was wrong and instead of asking her what was ordered, the servers chat with themselves, "ugh...well what did she order?!" Again I must apologize for the inconvenience of requesting drinks to be filled, or for condiments (he wasn't around enough to do much as check in or let us request any!) Lastly, I sat with a pile of dishes and a plate of leftovers for 10 minutes waiting to ask for a box. I had to apparently take matters into my own hands, find ANOTHER server by leaving my table and finally getting some attention for a box. A few weeks back I gave this restaurant a three star review. Now I am giving it five stars. My Steve and I went there again today September 24 and had a much better experience. Our waitress Nikki was amazing and we ordered selections that had healthy portions so much so that we had a lot to take home. Steve tried the chicken and dumplings and chose steak fries as a side and I ordered a grilled chicken salad. And Nikki remembered the biscuits and corn bread. We ordered a five dollar take out dinner meatloaf with Mac and cheese. Nikki is friendly and talkative and we had such a nice time sharing conversation. The same with Lisa the manager. I'm a pushover for past history and always enjoy checking out the old photos adorning the walls. Have you ever wondered why people back in the day never smiled in pictures. After our meal we wandered into the general store and checked out the candies and sodas. I saw a selection of Hello Kitty cups and my Steve said he may treat me to one next month. Meow. I felt like a kid again looking at the Halloween displays. This is a special time of year for me I am born on October 30 and my late father was born on Halloween. It was our birthday. The response I got was sorry, I can't take that off, the deal ended a few days ago. That's fine, but I didn't even know about the BOGO until my waitress told me it would be. This probably was by far the best location we've been to in Richmond. Their biscuits are definitely different from what we've seen over the years. The turkey & gravy is amazing. If you've been to Cracker Barrel you know their pancakes. But I do need for them to get those crispy edges on the pancakes back. We don't want fluffy pancakes. We want fluffy pancakes with crispy edges or flat pancakes with crispy edges. Whatever you have to do to get us crispy edges back. I've ordered their meatloaf lunch many times before as it's a "real meal" at a mere 5.99 (once slice of loaf and two sides), sounds like a good deal right? Well yesterday it was the WORSE! The scraps of the loaf were put in the container, the greasy fat included! And either the scraps of loaf or the gravy was beyond salty. This was the worst breakfast. I will NOT be returning to this location. The young staff members that take your name and seat you were excellent. Our server was attentive, but a smile would've been nice. Her name was Sade, and it was obvious that there was stress at this restaurant. I ordered blueberry pancakes and a side of bacon. Very disappointed. The pancakes were dry, crispy, lacking blueberries flavor, and were lukewarm. The bacon was 2 1/2 broken slices that should've been 3 slices. I was hungry and this was suppose to have been a dining out experience for me to relax. My sister and I said on last visit a couple of months ago that we would not return, but thought we would try it again since it use to be a regular dinner spot our deceased mother loved. The visit a couple months ago was a little different but not satisfying as well. The manager was walking around intimidating the wait staff and chose the customers he would greet, asking if everything was ok. We were seated right next to a table he was cleaning and we were apparently invisible. The breakfast was good and our server was as well. This particular location in Richmond, Va used to be my favorite to visit. But my last 2 visits were not good at all. This most recent visit was not as bad but definitely could be a lot better. First, I'm not sure where they're getting their wait staff from but they need to revisit the hiring criteria. This particular waitress was friendly and I was actually hopeful for the experience but that went left quickly. She took forever to bring out a basket of biscuits. And to be clear we requested only biscuits. When she finally brought them out there was 2 maybe 3 biscuits and the rest were corn muffins. Also, in the past the staff would provide butter AND a variety of jelly. She only brought butter. Then I asked for a side salad BEFORE my meal. Now if that was something that couldn't be done then fine but at least communicate that to me. When she finally brings our food out, I have my entree but no salad. And this is where things get weird. As she's putting down our plates, she says to me, "and I have that salad on the way". Now I'm no chef or cook, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't take long to make a side house salad but what do I know right? So I told her okay and guess what? I never got the salad. So I asked her to please remove it from my ticket and she says no problem. She later comes back to tell me that for some reason it won't let her remove it from the ticket so she's gonna try and balance the total out another way. Now I have been to many different types of restaurants. Never have I experienced a situation where they can't take something you NEVER got off your ticket! I mean crazy right? She eventually took care of it. Lastly, one of my side orders was green beans and I promise I have never seen such a small serving in my life! It wasn't enough on there even for a child. But I was exhausted at this point and didn't want to argue. I say all this to say, customer service is no where near what it used to be. Today we swung by Cracker Barrel to grab some late lunch, and look around the store. I hadn't been to Cracker Barrel in years before today, but it was about on par for what I remember. Overall, and I'll start by saying, Cracker Barrel is extremely inconsistent. I know this has to do with how busy it is, luckily today we were there when it was only a few other tables. I got the lemon pepper grilled rainbow trout, macaroni and cheese, and a hash brown casserole. It was all okay, nothing really stood out to me. The trout itself had a decent flavor, but could've had more seasoning. The macaroni and cheese and casserole were just scooped on the plate, not freshly made. They still tasted okay, but there's definitely a difference in flavor. Also, our server was extremely friendly, once again this is always a hit or miss when going to Cracker Barrel, today we were lucky.
