Typically I wouldn't write a review for Waffle House because I don't have high expectations and it's pretty straightforward. However, this past visit was enough for me to share because I couldn't get the one thing I came in for and that I should be able to get at Waffle House (a waffle!) I went on a Sunday morning (which may have been my first mistake) because I received a coupon for a free birthday waffle and wanted to use it before it expired. The experience started off standard, I sat at the counter and was greeted immediately by the woman at the register. She asked if I knew what I wanted to eat, and I said not yet but that I had a coupon for a free birthday waffle on my phone. She advised that unless it was printed I wouldn't be able to redeem it. That was a bit of a bummer, since I've redeemed the same coupon at other locations without printing it, but it wasn't a huge deal. Shortly after, my actual waiter came over and asked if I was ready to order which I was. I told him I'd like the seasonal strawberry waffle, two scrambled eggs, and hash browns smothered, covered, and topped (cheese, onions, and chili). I heard him call out the order, and my eggs and hash browns came out right away. He mentioned he'd get my check together early because there was a shift change happening, and then he dropped it off and started doing side work. Where I began to get annoyed was with the waffle. Even though I heard my waiter call for it to be made twice, no one did it. A young man was working the waffle station when I first sat down, but he walked away, and after the second call for the waffle, he walked away again. Since my waiter was going back and forth between side work and the counter, I asked another waitress about the waffle. She tried to find the young man that was working the waffle station but couldn't, so she started making it herself. After pouring the batter, she also walked away. A couple of minutes passed, and I asked yet another waitress about the waffle in the waffle maker. She opened it and I saw the waffle was stuck to the top. I watched her try to scrape it off (at this point it was falling apart), and I said, "That's not the waffle for me, right?" She replied, "Yes, it's your waffle, it's fine." While I was literally looking at a waffle with the top half stuck to the waffle maker and the rest in pieces. I said "never mind" and asked for the waiter so I can cash out. He reappeared and I explained I didn't receive the waffle so I needed the check to be updated. He scratched it out (we all know each Waffle House seems to have their own method for pricing) and the check ended up being $15 for two eggs and hash browns, without the waffle I came for in the first place. Next time, I'll remember to only go after 12 a.m. read more

This was my first time ever being at a waffle house, and now it won't be my last. The place was busy, but they moved through people really fast. The manager was the one who sat and served us. I wish I had remembered his name, but he was awesome, a very tall guy. He had us laughing and talking the whole time. The food was banging also. My bacon egg and cheese melt for whatever reason tasted like the best egg sandwich I ever had. They out it on Texas toast, and that was a game changer. I added a waffle to it and was completely full. So MAD. I came here as my SECOND attempt to find an open Waffle House near me as I get off work at 2:30 am. The security guard was sleep in the driver seat parked in a handicapped space without a placard!!! She advised me that the staff was cleaning. The employees were super friendly which is a bit unique for the chain where a lot of the employees are so stressed that they get short with customers. The servers are sweet as heck. I stopped by on a whim . As a ny girl i dont get waffle house often. So they're somewhat clean and very disorganized. I saw a lady waiting and people sitting . Normally, I NEVER write a RE Review until after at least 6 months after my first review. However, there is always an "Exception to the Rule". So, here I go... I have only been to the Waffle House twice, and when I see the sign Waffle on it... What does it say to you? It means it specializes in Waffles. The first time I went, I was looking for a quick dinner... and I was not in the mood for a Breakfast for dinner. However, I made an exception this time.... and ventured to the Waffle House thinking I was going to get it's Signature Dish... Waffles. Upon looking at the menu, I decided to order the Pecan Waffles with Strawberries for an additional charge. I guess, I was thinking I was going to get a pile of strawberries on top of the waffle... In addition, I ordered to eggs with Hash browns. My Eggs came out with Hash browns and they looked fine as I feel... how can you ruin a plate with two eggs and a side of Hash browns. However, when my waffle came out... I was thinking... I hope this is not their Signature Dish. They must have used an OUT Dated Waffle Iron as most places make the waffles which look thick. They had a very small tub of button sitting on top, and the strawberries. Well, what was there, they mixed in with the Waffle Mix. I am not sure they were Strawberries, but at least it was Red in color. I opened the small butter and of course it was melted and for a Waffle House, they had ONLY one flavor in Syrup which was Maple Syrup... it this was not the REAL Maple Syrup. Very disappointing. Upon eating the Waffles, they did not have the crisp taste as they were soggy with little to NO flavor for Belgium Waffles. Strawberries, forget it... as I would like to have seen the strawberries on top, and whatever they put in the waffles and than called it Strawberries... well, I am not sure. To say the least, I was extremely disappointed. When I think of a place which says, "Waffle House", the first thing which comes in mind are Waffles and many different type of Waffles.... No such thing. I think the next time, I want Waffles, I will go to the IHOP as they believe in making waffles and adding all the good things which makes Waffles sound good when you see the word "Waffle". Wish I could leave 0 stars! When we first came in, the server didn't greet us. I spoke and she ignored me while she kept mopping the floor. Eventually she spoke and said said our server (male) would be with us. After receiving our food, the grits were warm, the waffles were soggy, and the bacon wasn't fully cooked. I sent my Waffle back and waited for them to bring it back to the table. Eventually I sent my son up to get it and the female was rude as hell! I will NOT be returning to this establishment. The afternoon shift on Broad Street gave terrible service. I came with a party of 6, 4 kids and 2 adults and faced high levels of discrimination. Upon entering no one acknowledged us for over 5-10mins and had us stand by the doorway, only 2 tables were occupied while the others were messy, we had to ask for a table to be cleaned to be seated, during this time another older white couple came in and were immediately greeted and seated and order taken while we were totally ignored to the point were we had to leave. This was a pilgrimage. We don't have Waffle Houses in California, so this was a treat. I've heard how this is a step down from a Denny's. I beg to differ. The menu is simple and no-frills, but would still tempt you with the usual greasy spoon diner experience. Of course they had waffles, so I had one. They also have 100 different ways to serve hash browns. I had mine with country sausage gravy, and scattered covered and smothered (cheese and grilled onions). They serve sugar free syrup for anyone watching their calories, and they would also accommodate any reasonable request. Place was clean and the utensils were not icky like some other places, and my waitress was nice, polite and service was fast and showed that they cared. Say what you want about the Waffle House. That just means you've been going to the wrong one. Stick with this one. I liked my first time. Can't wait to go back. read more

Our family are huge Waffle House people. It's a treat to go and sit up at the counter on a busy Saturday morning. I don't know just something about the interaction. Love it. This morning we were looking for some place for a quick breakfast before making a doctors appointment. Bingo!!! Waffle House!! Waffles, waffles, waffles! We were greeted by a very energized, happy, and efficient operator. Who had a wit and charm reminiscent of a fountain barker in a big city. He's attention to detail was noteworthy. All the staff appeared to be content and happy to be working there. In fact so much so I'd drive to this location over the Waffle House near my home on Hull Street. Just arrived and first thing I want to try is Waffle House. Thankfully it's near my hotel room so why not try it since I've been hearing good things about it. Well you can take my review how you want it but it's a big disappointment to me. First we were seated and the waiter asked what we want to order but we didn't have any menus. Both ordered the steak and eggs with extras on the hash browns and a pecan waffle. The food came out fast but the steak and waffle came late, very late. To the point where our food was cold. Also had to ask for refills on water, don't know if there's something wrong with the filter or what but I always end up with particles in my cup. Seems that every dish that comes out the kitchen someone else is questioning if it's correct or not. This is one of the better WH my wife and I have eaten at and we have ate a quite a few up and down the east coast over the years. The thing with WH is the food is generally good no matter which one you eat at, its the service thats always in question. It can range from horrible to excellent to any where in between. This one always had good service and was clean, that why we ate here several times during our stay in Richmond. Wish all WH had service as good as this one. read more
