We had a great meal at a Cracker Barrel in Savannah, GA and I have had a couple phenomenal meals at a Cracker Barrel in Nashville, TN.... This CB in Rockford just didn't measure up to my past CB meals. We went at dinner time on a Thursday night. We had to wait a little while for a table but that was fine because walking around the store is half the appeal of going to CB. Our waitress was fine, a bit frazzled. She had many tables and seems overwhelmed. The restaurant was messy and our food was meh. It took forever for our meals to arrive and honestly, we were fine sitting there quizzing each other on our sports knowledge. I love a random Cracker Barrel meal; however, I will skip this location. read more

I just landed in Chicago and drove straight to my spot - Cracker Barrel. It is always the first thing I do when I get here because there are very few where I am from. This country store and restaurant has a down home feel with a wagon load of southern hospitality. Antwan was very helpful and courteous. The entire staff is always on point. I have never been dissatisfied with this particular Cracker Barrel off State Street and the Interstate 90. As far as I'm concerned, this one is the best. read more

NO MORE .... This is the fourth time in six months have gone in for ANY of their "famous chicken dinners" usually at 5-6pm and they are out of every kind. I've actually had the same waiter too. This guy Luis is no good. no silverware on the table, he takes the order and when it comes to the table, what's wrong every time?. the kitchen manager does not know how to plan his day. Obviously he doesn't check the trend.. Why does this place not have any chicken dinner at five 6 o'clock at night at random whenever we go there. Calling corporate on Monday finished with this place. Never again. Also tried calling their corporate phone number and you get directed to a website. They do not want to speak to the customer on the phone. It's obvious. That also shows the lack of caring if you're too busy to take a phone call from a customer then you don't need my business or my money. Beware everyone they don't care. If you do care post a phone number here that I could call where a live person will answer the phone. Let's see what happens. read more

Came for breakfast and got biscuits and gravy with bacon, sausage, and hash browns. The service was great she was on it with the water, I was drinking a lot of it. The biscuits and gravy were good, the bacon was crispy, hashbrowns had a nice crunch to them. Unfortunately the reasons I can't give it a better rating is because the sausage was a let down and it was really rowdy with old people, who'd imagine I know. The sausage were these really tough hockey pucks I tried to eat and mix with the biscuits but they had a nasty flavor I wouldn't even feed to my dogs. The old people acted like they're the only ones in the restaurant, there was a group of 5-6 old men at 7 AM ! I'd come back yes, but maybe for lunch. Definitely avoid the sausage. read more

This location like most others will satisfy anyone familiar with the chain: hearty food, served by friendly staff. For lunch or dinner, I recommend the chicken and dumplings with green beans. Very Southern choice and they do it very well. Their many choices of side dishes lets you customize your meal. (Their fried apples is a nice way to sneak in a dessert!) Order some biscuits no matter what time of day. Their fried chicken is also excellent. For breakfast-y people, there's standard American fare as well as some more Southern choices. Three of us went to have breakfast here on a Sunday morning because it was next to our hotel and we thought we would prefer Cracker Barrel to the free hotel breakfast. We were quite disappointed and wish we hadn't wasted our money. The service was fine but the coffee was completely tasteless. Reading other reviews I was surprised nobody else mentioned it. Coffee tasted like lukewarm dishwater, we couldn't tell what we were drinking. Asked for a refill thinking it was just a bad pot of coffee but the refill was the same as the first cup. The food was not quite hot enough, bacon overcooked. My mom declared her food tasteless. My food tasted fair but ruined by the horrible coffee. read more

Food was good. Service was not that great. Manager was so rude. We asked for a table for a group of 11 they refused to sit us together. We asked for two bigger tables nearby and he clearly said "no! I can't do that! The section is closed and you have two tables there one of 6 and one of five" I was speechless, as I'm taking a deep breath he said tut can out these two tables together and walks away. As we're putting our tables together another supervisor tells us we shouldn't be moving tables. Minutes after we sat down, they took another party and gave them the tables I had requested in the section they claimed was closed. It was a party of two in a large table... Very disappointed to be treated poorly for no reason. There were other issues with the food order (out of stock items, items weren't made) which I understand it happens sometimes. My problem is the customer service and what I feel was discrimination on behalf of the managers/supervisors. read more

Truthfully, it can be hard to know where to eat in Rockford. Recently, my family went to the Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford and wanted a place to eat afterwards. Because it was Mother's Day, our options for a place that doesn't running a Mother's day menu was a bit limited, so we ended up at Cracker Barrel. I love the charm of the Cracker Barrel store and, truly, you never know what you'll find there! We always end up leaving with something unique. The staff has always been friendly and helpful during our visits. On Mother's Day, it was VERY crowded and because of that, it was pretty loud. Of course, that is too be expected on a special day like Mother's Day. Staff were running in and out to tables and doing a good job of staying in control. The food can be hit or miss. This time, we all enjoyed our meals. Were they the most exciting things we've had? No. Were they good? Yes. Even my brother enjoyed his meal. Overall, it was a good dining experience, though I do think that they need to update the chain a bit, starting with the menu. There are almost too many choices. I'm not sure how the kitchen can manage having that many options on the menu, so I'm not surprised that the quality varies. However, if you're in the Rockford area looking for some place safe to eat, this is a solid choice. There are more exciting places to eat, but Cracker Barrel is still a decent choice when exploring Rockford. read more

We live in Chicago and came up for a Candlelight concert. My husband loves Cracker Barrel and never passes up the opportunity to go to one. I was cautious due to the recent negative reviews. We arrived around 11am on a Saturday. There were 3 couples and we were quickly seated by Guillermo. Our waitress, Samantha, was patient and attentive. Our party ordered steak and eggs, catfish, country fried steak, and the breakfast platter. EVERYONE enjoyed their food. It was hot and flavorful. The biscuits were warm and fluffy. After breakfast a few in our party did a little shopping at the country store. The nostalgic candy takes us back to childhood. We had a good time and will be back the next time we're in the area. read more

I was surprised to find such poor service at this location. I had to flag down a waitress to seat us. Our table was not set up. We were given menus right away, but we had to ask for utensils after we received our food. Napkins were not included with the utensils, so we had to flag our waitress down again. My husband's meatloaf meal was satisfactory. My chicken was cooked really well (wonderful moisture), seasoned nicely but did not contain the smoky taste that was advertised. It could have used a BBQ sauce. The corn muffins were cold and dry. What happened to the honey butter? Also, what happened to the salmon entre with sweet potato mash with pecans? Why are sweet potatoes no longer listed on the side selections? Why can't we get the turkey dinner choice on any day? What happened to warm muffins served at the table? Smiling wait staff? Quality customer service? Oh, and ease up on the sugar in the Lemonade for all of us boomers with diabetes who can't drink the diet Coke because it has caffeine. read more

Same country favorite dishes, same friendly staff and same country store loaded with fun, quirky merchandise. I've never had the lunch or dinner menu because you simply can't go wrong with breakfast. I got the Momma's French Toast Breakfast with chocolate milk. Pretty traditional. Not a fan of the sausage patties. Two things I would like to point out that I did like was that the French toast was made with sour dough and the chocolate milk wasn't the typical milk with syrup. Recently I took a bus from downtown Chicago to Rockford to attend a business meeting. Since I had some time to kill, I decided to have lunch at Cracker Barrel not far from the bus station. I have not been to a Cracker Barrel in decades, but I figured that I would get some comfort food here. The store is fun and folksy, stocking all sorts of goofy foods and toys and knickknacks. For lunch I had the meat loaf special, with sides of mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and a cornbread muffin and biscuit. This meat loaf meal took my taste buds on a ride to blandsville, with nothing tasting that great from my All-American plate. Order online for pickup. Could not use the gift card I had to pay for a portion of the order. I had to pay the full amount with a credit card. When I picked up the order, I asked why they didn't take the gift card online and was told they don't take them for online purchases due to fraud. Why does every other restaurant take a gift card for payment online? I was told I could call in my order, and they would take the gift card along with my credit card information. This is why they develop apps so you don't have to give someone your order on the phone. read more

Quality has suffered greatly the past few years, and the sad part is that management doesn't seem to care. Portions are smaller, quality is lesser, and prices are higher for a far less satisfying experience. The servers try their best, but when they have no support from management, they're between a rock and a hard place. Tables are left un-bussed while managers stand around and talk instead of pitching in and helping (this is what good management does when needed). Front of house staff are largely clueless kids, and don't listen when requests for specific, favorite servers are made. There are better places to spend your hard-earned dollars. read more

This was my first ever experience at a Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and restaurant. Our party of four enjoyed the Country Ham Steak, Southern Fried Chicken and the cornmeal crusted farm raised catfish! Each entree was generous in portion served with two sides of choice and cornmeal and buttermilk biscuits. Each item was "mouthwateringly " (I had to invent my own descriptor for the tasty food ) delicious!!! Each entree on the menu was reasonably priced, refills always available and attentive service given. I was very impressed! Although the restaurant front was packed, we only had to wait less than 15 minutes till we were seated and our meals prepared in less than 20 minutes from order to table. Absolutely professional friendly service thru out the restaurant and exemplary welcoming, friendly sales staff in the store. So this is the day before Thanksgiving and my wife ordered some Thanksgiving meals to save time and trouble. I picked it up and even confirmed who the food was for. When I got home my wife told me this is not our order. So she called them and they said to return and they would get us the correct order. I returned and when I spoke to the lady all she said was "I don't know how this happened, someone must have given me the wrong box". She took the box I returned and brought it inside and walked over to the trailer and a few minutes later came out with another box and said "Yeah it was my friend she gave me the wrong box." She then stated "this is your box do you want to check it?" I said yes and looked inside I saw most of the items including a pumpkin pie. She handed me the box and said "OK you're good now". Through out all of this you know what is missing? An apology! I expected anyone of the following: I'm sorry for this mix up, I'm sorry you had to come back, I'm sorry for this inconvenience. I AM SORRY! NOT blame deflection because YOU failed at your job!! Our waitress was very attentive ( filled drinks often, brought extra napkins, checked on us). The host was friendly, thoughtful, and made sure we were comfortable.
