Today is a perfect no cooking at home day, my group shuttled out to Cracker Barrel for their Seasonal Campfire meals, yum . Fast service and friendly staff was our experience.

What a wonderful time we had here in Willoughby Ohio. Was seated immediately. Restaurant was your typical run-of-the-meal Cracker Barrel. Clean and well appointed. Our server Crystal was wonderful. A sweet little soft voiced thing who made us feel like we were at Auntee's house. (She later told us she's been with Cracker Barrel for 28 years; no one ever made her day like we did.) Food came out fast, hot, well proportioned, and tasty. We both had the Grandmas Sampler with Apples and Hash Brown casserole. Not sure why this place has so few stars. When we come back to the Cleveland area, this place will get a return visit.

Very average Cracker Barrel. I only came as my family member wanted to as I don't tend to love it here. The service was ok and the food was good. The store inside always has some kitschy items which are fun to look at

I love Cracker Barrel the food is always fresh and delicious my server was friendly and understood the assignment I was in a rush!! I wouldn't recommend the strawberry mimosas it tasted like a jam, very thick. I had an orange one as well and that one was extremely good. It was my first time trying the tenders and I definitely would get them again.

Fall/Winter fires in the hearth. Amazing!

Best catfish in town. Good country style restaurant and decent service. I'll be back and back and back.

Each meal comes with yellow rice and two sides. You can upgrade to a creamy veggie rice for $4. I stuck with the original and got sweet potato yams and mac and cheese for my sides. I was told that my order would take 45 minutes and that they would call me when it was ready. About 10 minutes later, I got a call stating that they ran out of yams and what other side I'd like to choose. I got the greens. I was called about 45 minutes later (so the food took right at 1 hour) and told my order was ready. As expected from the outside, the inside is not the nicest. It's called a lounge and there does seem to be a bar, a few tables, and a small sitting area, but no one was dining in. It's pretty outdated and I couldn't imagine eating or having a drink there. The cashier (same person on the phone) was very sweet. My order came to $30. She opened the box and showed me my meal before wrapping it up and I was on my way. Truly, the food was excellent. The salmon tenders were sooo crispy and perfectly fried on the outside while still juicy inside. I got them seasoned with honey lemon pepper. You could tell that the batter was also seasoned along with the salmon. There were 5 pieces so it's a pretty big portion. I also really enjoyed the mac n cheese. It was super cheesy and well seasoned. The rice was good as well. While I did like the greens, there was sooo much meat in it that it made them overall kind of salty. Maybe I got the end of the pot, but it was really more meat than greens. I'm happy to know that this is a good option for soul food takeout if ever I am craving soul food and don't mind spending $$$$. I really want to try the candied yams

But there is nothing more annoying than not being able to place an order with a business that says it is open. A big no-no. Otherwise, the food and the fried chicken is great. The biscuits and side offerings are wonderful! They changed their original chicken coating, which I thought was fabuous, but the honey crunch coating is delicious too.

"Hook and Hoof" has been in downtown Willoughby for quite a while so they must be doing something right. And the fact that there aren't that many high level dining establishments in the Willoughby area helps. The first thing I noticed was the facility is very narrow which lends to a crowded feel. And all you need is one overly boisterous table (which was right next to us) and the noise level can be overwhelming. The server we had for the evening was very pleasant. She did a good job being timely with everything. But, it was odd that she often did not listen to an entire request (or maybe just couldn't hear) before walking away. There were a couple of requests for simple standard items that she wasn't even sure they had. I just found it odd. The food however was excellent. The kitchen staff did an exemplary job all night. I had a marvelous cocktail from the well stocked bar. And my double cut pork chop was fantastic. So full of flavor, juicy, cooked exactly as I requested. The sides that accompanied it were just tender enough without being mushy. And my banana cream pie was great. Overall, I give "Hook and Hoof" a solid 4. I definitely can see us going back. They deserve another try. You should give them a try and see for yourself.

He said the special was chicken parmigiana so I thought I'd try it. He brought us a very nice bread with a tasty butter and olive oil mix. I ordered the chopped salad that I absolutely loved! There were lives of cauliflower, different types of olives and a pickled red onion that wasn't over bearingly strong. The chicken parmigiana was tasty. Two patties if chicken over fettuccini. I noticed on the way out that eggplant parmigiana was also a special. I might've had that if I'd known. I will definitely come back on a Tuesday to try the eggplant. I might also come back to try their pizza. Nice place. Give it a try!!!

If you didn't know better and walked in the first time, you'd say, "This looks like a BBQ spot!" Of course, it was. Hanging a few doilies and Italian aperitif posters doesn't help. The delicate and frankly, pretty dishes are disconcerting against the rough and tumble tables and chairs place you in the wrong mindset. It just doesn't work. My Bolognese Cavatelli was very good, but my wife felt the Eggplant Parmigiana was simply a cheesy clump, the skin tough and stringy. An excellent bread service goes in the win column. Unfortunately, this was like eating quenelles and lobster on a paper plate washed down with Champagne in a plastic flute.

I was really kind of disappointed with all of the reviews because the general rule of thumb is you don't review a restaurant right after they open you give them time to get their feet wet and figure things out. So that's what I did I gave it 6 months and then wanted to try it. Parking in downtown Willoughby can be challenging sometimes but you can park at the bank right adjacent to the restaurant as long as it is after banking hours. I confirm this with the restaurant they said it was cool. It was not that busy for a Saturday night and there was live music setting up we were there about 6:30ish. I was afraid that the reputation of the reviews had gotten to the place already. But again our awesome server said that a lot of people come there a little later to drink and that was totally true My wife and I started out with just a couple of beers and the menu is simple and not convoluted. Being as some of the reviews were for fried chicken I wanted to try the fried chicken. There really aren't very many good fried chicken places around so I figured I would give it a shot. I got the three piece fried Chicken breast thigh and drumstick. Ambrosia the server said my wife should get the chicken tenders which she did. We had been to this place when it was a burger place a couple of years ago and the restaurant was now in the process of enclosing the back bar and wrapping it for the winter which is a fabulous idea. It's really not that big inside but if you have the back bar as well it's more than comfortable. My wife got two different types of barbecue sauce a coffee barbecue sauce and then the house barbecue sauce. While we are waiting for our food which only took about 9 minutes we got another beer and again ambrosia was on top of it! I did order a salad as well even though they really don't have house salads on the menu they made me one for five bucks. My chicken came out in a little tin bucket and it was hotter than the surface of the Sun so I did have to give it a minute to cool. If you go there expecting to get fried chicken like KFC or Popeyes that is not what they have. It's not overly breaded. What it reminded me of was when I was a kid my mom would do the shake and bake style fried chicken and pan fried in a cast iron pan. This chicken reminded me of that. It was not overly cooked the breading was actually a seasoned very well. The chicken was not overly huge it was a good portion. My wife's tenders she got six of them and could only eat three and a half to maybe give you an idea of how big they were! They also came with shoestring fries. After I finished my chicken I could not believe what all of the reviews said because what I had was absolutely contradictory to most of the reviews. It was chicken that reminded me of home and of my childhood. At that time I happened to see the head chef come out of the kitchen and get himself something to drink. I did flag him down and we talked about it. Apparently they have made a personnel change in the kitchen and now he is the boss of it which I'm 100% fine with because he makes kick ass chicken. The band started up about 8:00 and after a couple of beers that's when we finished and ambrosia brought us a to-go box and our evening was complete. I don't mean to my expert in fried chicken but I know what I like and I like this chicken big time. Our food combined with our incredible server really made our night. That plus the awesome country music was the icing on the cake!
