After a few hours of shopping at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets, we stopped in here for lunchtime pints and a bite to eat (within minutes drive) They have a solid beer menu. The food was good. The prices were reasonable. The customer service was fine by me. I enjoyed the grass-fed pub burger w/ pepperjack (decent meat-to-bun ratio). Sampled many beers last week, when I went in for the first time. The manager, Gary, and my server Steven were quite helpful and eager to make my experience the best ever for a local pub. I went back yesterday and loaded my bierwagen, I mean pickup truck, with lots of different bottled brews for a party that I threw. I would have filled my growlers with their draft brews, but they are not set up to do that yet. I would have preferred to have done that, but the bottled selections did offer more of a choice for our guests. (Made points with the in-laws, that's for sure.) A partial list, but some of my favs that I tried were: WEYERBACHER DELTA FOUNDERS BACKWOODS BASTARD (complex and bourbonesque) AVERY ALE TO THE CHIEF (incredible) BRECKENRIDGE AVALANCHE ALE TROEGS MAD ELF VICTORY OLD HORIZONTAL BARLEYWINE Even though the curry inspired liquid my perfectly tender mussles were steamed in had some bitterness, I gave the place five stars because they are obviously still working out a few details, and were quite responsive when I pointed this out. Obviously the main reason one would visit here is the beer, but they really want to make the food special so that they develop a loyal clientele. Living in New York City, it is easy for me to find restaurants that are made with love, that have both quality and quantity. In the suburbs of PA? Not so much. I had always been a fan of Craft Ale House with they first opened, though they only served micro brews then. Upon hearing that they started serving lunch and dinner a while back, I had to go check it out. Could this be my future go-to restaurant when I am in the area? Quite possibly so... Buttermilk Tenders This was the star of the night. Too modest to call itself tenders, this was more like hardy fried chicken and undoubtedly one of the best of I have ever eaten. The breading was thick crunchy, spicy and bursting with flavor. The chicken was moist and juicy- so much so that some jumped out at me. Though the sauce was delicious, it was almost not necessary. With 7 or 8 pieces per order, this was big enough for 2 people. The fries? Best ones in PA. Soft with tough and resistant outer skin. A sprinkling of kosher salt and it was the perfect bar snack. F.Y.I If you can't decide on a beer, they are happy to give you little shot sized tastings. After 4 or 5 shot tasting, they only charge $1.00 for each additional taste. Always an excellent dining experience when I am here - food is outstanding and our waiter, Wayne (whose section we always get seated), was excellent as usual. The only downside was the bartenders. When we arrived on a Monday evening, roughly 8pm, the restaurant was rather empty. There were 3 patrons at the bar and a few couples at the high-tops near the entrance. The dining room was empty, therefore there was no hostess waiting to seat new arrivals which is understandable. We stood at the front entrance near the hostess stand for a good 5 minutes while waiting to be seated since there was a sign there. There was also about 4 bartenders behind the bar with nothing to do. I walked up to the bar and got the attention of a younger red headed girl and asked "Could we get a table, please?". She stared at me for a good 5 seconds before a woman popped up from behind the counter to assist us immediately (who was cleaning something, the only person behind the bar working). This girls attitude stank out loud - she had an "I don't give a f#$@" attitude. Definitely going to go back but that was annoying. The Craft Ale House is better than hiring an employee like that - go to some chain restaurant with that work ethic, sweetheart - whoever you are. read more

I love craft beer and this place is THE place to go if you are into trying all different kinds. As other reviewers have noted they do have a few policies. The place is small, so they don't do reservations and they won't seat more than 6 people. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Our waitress helped my husband choose from the booklet (seriously, it is about 10 pages printed in small print front and back) something adventurous yet tasty. The food in my opinion was just ok. Both my mom and my husband got the pork sandwich. It didn't really have much flavor. Neither did the fish and chips. So I can't say the food is bad, just bland. I'm interested in trying their seasonal entrees. It just wasn't an entree kind of night for us. We will definitely be back. Next time without my 10 month old. It is noisy enough for you to have a baby there who is fussy and not bother other people. Their high chairs suck though. The safety strap is pointless as it is secured by velcro. The bathroom is a one-seater. I didn't use it, but I doubt that there would be enough room for a changing table in there. read more

If you want to try good beer and not the standard macrobrew swill, this is the place to go. The beers are constantly changing, you hardly see the same thing two days in a row. There is also a great bottle selection, and a discount if you mix a six pack to go. The food is always good, the burger is in one of my top three (as are the fries). They have a great head chef here who really knows his stuff. The only problem with Craft is seating. If you hit a busy time you are going to wait for a table (sometimes up to an hour). The wait is worth it, and while you wait for a table you can always go up the the bar and start trying out beers. read more

This place has figured out that you don't have to overextend yourself. They know they have a kickass beer selection and a few good food dishes (to fill the time between beers). They do both super well. Their beer menu (and selection for rotating taps) is bloody impressive. The prices are respectable too for so many rare brews. As for the food, nothing jawdropping, but it's consistently good (unlike Sly Fox). Would definitely recommend. Easily one my favorite beer destinations ! I find myself becoming more and more narrow minded when it comes to the type of beers that I enjoy. Without fail, one of the employees there, usually Bobby Jo or Savannah, will broaden my horizons a bit, and turn me on to something that I have yet to try. I find the service to be exceptional and friendly with a strong emphasis on the detail it takes to not only serving craft beer the correct way, but to an ALWAYS delightful dining experience. I've seen the servers and bartenders help navigate customers who are a bit bewildered by the wide variety of beer, down the proper avenue towards something they may enjoy and then pair a delicious meal with said beer. It's a rather small place, so your best bet is to go just before the crowd arrives around the 5 PM hour on weekends. read more

Perfect spot for midweek dinner after the outlets. Really enjoyable on a Tuesday night- Bobbi Jo, our server, really knows her beer- love that! So many choices that it was hard to decide. Problem solved with samples, narrowing us down to our ultimate choices.. perfect. On to dinner- the manly man had the farmhouse mussels, while I had the fish and chips! My only tiny recommendation would be to substitute tables and chairs for the picnic tables outside. Let me first say I've eaten here a few times and love this place. Their beer selection is way above the average pub, bar or microbrew and moderately priced - a great value for quality beers. Every time I've dine here the staff has always been friendly, polite and very attentive - today was no different, Tommy our waiter was excellent and gave us his best. I dine with my son and elderly parents, dads 90 - and appreciates good food. We ordered 3 Caprese chicken sandwiches and I had the roasted pork sandwich. Dad started out with a bowl of their Mushroom soup, he said it was very good, thick and topped with bacon & scallions. We waited an HOUR for our sandwiches, I am not exaggerating at all, we walked in just before 1pm and didn't receive our sandwiches until 2:01 as I checked. Tommy our waiter must of apologize a 1/2 dozen times and keep our beverages full and was as personable as could be - great job Tommy. Both my parents sandwiches were over-cooked, the chicken was very dry and charred. There was no sending them back now as we were hungry. My pork sandwich was awesome, so tender, juicy with roasted red peppers and I added long hots. I have to admit - it was awesome and the FF served with all the meals were excellent. The seasoning on them is so good. If this was my first time here I would have given them 1 or 2 stars, but I know this had to be an off day. I've had great meals here before and will try them again. If I had one complaint, I wish I had known that ahead of time since I prefer a traditional pastry. Our appetizers were equally good. Great beer selection -- try the Avery sour raspberry. C'mon, used to be our favorite as we waited for our food but our last two visits the portions of cheese were miniscule so we're done. I'm giving Craft Ale House 2 stars as a gift, and that's due to the excellent collection of beers. If you're a beer fanatic, this is your place.....IF you can put up with the down sides: Food is average at best. The menu consists of 8 (that's right - eight) entrée selections. Can't find something you're in the mood for out of 8? No problem, right, because typically places that have such a limited menu offer lots of great dinner specials, usually depending on what's available seasonally. Not so here - 1 special! So I opted for their Fresh Scallop entree. Probably would not have been that bad (a little bland), if they weren't so COLD (here's a tip to any chef who is aspiring to be better then average - when you prepare a hot dinner, serve it on a HOT PLATE. Otherwise, your hot dinner will be but luke warm in a matter of seconds. Especially seafood! Cooking 101). My wife ordered their steak, medium rare, which came out medium well (ruined) and a little bit tough. All in all, neither entrée was worth the prices they charge. Noise - they had live music.....in the dining room! Now don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of live music. I was a professional musician myself for 25 years. But I don't want to hear it in the dining room while I'm eating. IMO the BAR area is the place for music. So what you have is not only loud music in your dining room, but also 30 people trying to shout above the loud music in order to have a conversation. Not a great atmosphere for a relaxing dinner! IMO, if your place doesn't have an alternative dining area away from the live music, then you shouldn't have it. Service - our waitress was very nice, but slow. Every time I finished a beer, it was almost a 10 min wait to get another one. Granted, it was a very busy Friday night, so I actually blame the management for not having enough help on hand. And maybe a couple of the others were a little overworked too, because they had kind of a nasty attitude overall. Bottom line - not a place I would make it a point to go back to and we live only 8 min away. That's a shame for them, because my wife and I are very devoted customers when we find a place that impresses us. read more

HUGE beer selection, and the beers on special are very affordable. I had a $5 beer on draught that cost $18 a bottle. I had the Moroccan Lamb with Black Currant Cous Cous, which was fantastic! The lamb is served on the bone, but is so tender it just fell right off with a light touch of my fork. This was a very welcome change from the traditional American palate. The craft ale house is a great way to experience new beers, or just enjoy the high end beers you already love. It's a little pricey, but I would absolutely recommend this place for a nice evening meal. read more

I had high expectations after reading other reviews, and because I am also a chef. To start we had the cheese plate, basic selection of cheeses and accompaniments ,not very inspiring. Next we had the mushroom risotto, exotic mushroom seemed to only be shittake,flavor was a single note of truffle oil. The pot pie, granted the price was low which I suppose justified the very small portion, and everything in it was almost non existent, crust was also flavorless and herbs mentioned on the menu must be all dried because I didn't see or taste any fresh herbs. Are here with a buddy after some golf at ravens claw and boy were we happy with this decision. The place has a very nice selection of beers which we tried the every day IPA and the sculpin IPA and they were great. We both ordered the pulled pork which comes with au jus. I've never had pulled pork without BBQ and I've been missing out. The portion was great with the pork being cooked and seasoned to perfection and the au jus just a perfect touch to a great sandwich! I love hand cut fries and these didn't disappoint. I will certainly be coming back after golf and next time I'm in the area outlet mall we will make the short trip here instead of the dregs they have on property!! read more

We have never been disappointed in a meal at the Craft Ale House. The food is always extremely fresh and delicious. The servers are always attentive and cater to our needs. Their beer list is pages (yes pages) long so you will find something you like. Their prices are a little on the steeper side, but it's well worth it for the quality of food that you receive. The beer choices will absolutely blow your mind!! They have a fabulous selection of draft and bottled beers and the servers will make recommendations based on what you like. You can also "sample" the beer before you commit to a larger size. The menu is small, but thoughtfully planned out and the food is quite delicious. Their risotto is fabulous and their chicken fingers are unbelievable. The restaurant is small but turnaround is quick. Not the best place to dine with the kiddies unless they have a more adventurous palate. Service is usually ok. Some (but not all) of the servers seem like pretentious beer snobs, but, I suppose, that happens when you go to "beer college." The host or hostess is usually friendly. First time here. Stopped here with a friend for lunch on a Saturday. A very good tap selection and great bottle selection. Sat outside in their patio area and it was good. Friendly and timely service. Had the spicy mussels which were good but not spectacular. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was excellent. The pork was tender and had a good taste to it. I would have seasoned the meat a bit more. I got the roasted peppers added but didn't really notice them. For a sandwich like this, you need to stick large parts of the long hot in the roll. They also stuff the long roll with meat. I almost couldn't finish which is rare for me. The fries were fresh with a great seasoning to them. Would I come back to the place?-yes. I've been here many times. I Live nearby and I hangout at the bar and also eat Dinner here often. Depending what I order I'd say 9 times out of 10 it exceeds my expectations. Fantastic Beer Menu. This is not your average pub-food ale house. Expect to pay a few dollars to get the Harrissa Chili Buttermilk Chicken Tenders (which are outstanding) as compared to a local bar just serving Buffalo Wings. $50 for meals and beers easy here. Been going here since the 2nd or 3rd day open, when I wore my Jack Lambert jersey and Gary jokingly kicked me out between Christmas and New Years. Fondly recall my first beer here, a St. Bernardus Christmas ale, served at proper temp. in a St. Bernardus chalice. The 16-beer draft list always has solid and rare beers, and sours and IPAs are always well represented. Local brewers are always on the list, and relative rarities can be found on any visit. The heavy hitters do sell out quickly, so keep your eyes on facebook for the updates. The bottles list is staggering and ample, with my only beef being that I can procure most of these cheaper. The bulk discount is a great idea. The food is delicious, Highlights are the funky farmhouse mussels, burger, pork sandwich, and artisanal cheese plate. Entrees are solid, a bit pricey, but everything is fresh. My only beef is that even after eating an entree I end up hungry, so I usually order the cheese tray or burger. This place has become iconic, and a home away from home, for the beer crowd and people I hang out with, and I am glad we have it so close. read more

Attentive server with a cheerful demeanor. Atmosphere: Also good. Adequate & appropriate lighting, nice alternative music [Psych Furs; English Beat] which wasn't intrusive. Food: Good. She had Buttermilk Tenders [listed as an appetizer, but ordered as a meal]; I had Fish & Chips. The Buttermilk Tenders, which I tried, were a bit dry on the inside. The Fish & Chips were heavy on the chips, light on the fish [3 small filets]. On the plus side, the server offered malt vinegar, which is the perfect complement to this meal. The fries were delicious. The cod filets were done very nicely; crispy and not heavy at all. I just wish there were more of them. Nitpick: A $0.50 charge added to the bill when my wife asked for extra dipping sauce for her Buttermilk Tenders. That, and the aforementioned smallish portion of Fish in the Fish & Chips entree. Drink: I had a very tasty IPA microbrew. $5 for a pint. Not bad. Overall: Recommended. We will certainly be back, since I think that there are other entrees, and other microbrews, worth checking out. read more
