One of the most sublime meals of 2018 was had at Craft. We went straight for the mains and opted for some sharing sides as well. The menu may not be extensive but has something for everyone. Everything is done to perfection and key is simplicity - both in terms of presentation and also preparation. I had the Red Snapper (roasted) and can still savor the taste of this melt-in-your-mouth fish unlike any other I've had in a long, long time. The fish tasted like better...the texture like fine silk and paired with some of the sides like the gratin and mushroom risotto made for an incredibly fine meal. Great atmosphere and very good food. Reasonable price and large portions for the tasting menu. Cost about $300 w/ tip for two people. Started with the standard complimentary bread and butter. It was good, but nothing special. Surprise amuse bouche was oyster on the half shell with a cucumber mignonette, it was a nice start. Could have used a bit more acid, but it was fresh and nice and cold. First course was a fairly well done tuna tartare. Very assertive coriander flavor which my girlfriend loved, but I'm not a huge fan, either way the fish was nice and fresh and well seasoned. A little chili added a very mild heat which I really liked. I would have liked a bit more acid and the tuna could have been colder, but it was a good start. Second course was pasta with lobster and roasted tomatoes. The dish came out piping hot, al dente pasta, lots of perfectly cooked lobster, the tomatoes added some sweetness and there was a small amount of heat which built up perfectly by the end of the dish. It was great and easily my favorite dish of the night. Only thing was towards the bottom, it was a bit oily. Third course was roasted prawn with a sort of succotash with lobster sauce. The prawns were perfectly cooked, but slightly over salted which was a shame because the rest of the dish was near perfect. Fourth course was a grilled wagyu short rib, with trumpet mushroom, onion, black garlic, and tater tot. The tot was really good, nice and crispy and the beef had a really deep savory flavor, but it probably should have been cooked closer to medium because the fat needed to render a bit more so it wasn't quite as chewy. The mushroom was good, but unnecessary. Overall a solid dish. Dessert was a great end. Meringue with lemon ice cream, strawberries and whipped cream. Not too sweet, lots of balance of flavor, and great texture. Overall I will definitely go back and recommend it for those looking for a quality meal. read more

Had an absolutely lovely restaurant week experience here. I made a reservation for 12, and the restaurant opens promptly at 12, with a short line already forming outside the doors. Their reservation system is through open table, but they also require you to confirm via email. While the restaurant was only about half full by the time I finished my meal, I guess making a reservation wouldn't hurt. The restaurant itself feels very comfortable - the colors are very warm and inviting. For lunch I think casual dress is completely fine - I wore shorts and they sat me in the front of the restaurant no problem. Maybe for dinner you might wanna put on some slacks or something cuz it's mostly people coming after work. I started with the beef carpaccio, which was beautifully plated, and came with some mushrooms, and black radish, which was my first time trying that. A bit tasteless like normal radishes, but it added nice crunchy texture to the dish. I would recommend this starter but keep in mind it is quite small. I got the poussin for me entree, and once again, it was beautifully played. The skin was crispy, and the meat was perfectly cooked and moist. The spaetzle was peppery and overall I loved the aggressive seasoning. For the dessert I got the peach tarte tartin which was absolutely delicious. It's served with a neat quenelle of vanilla bean ice cream which went so well with the freshly baked peach tarte. I opted for the agave-ginger reviver which was super refreshing and tasty. Overall a wonderful experience. The restaurant manager personally greeted everyone entering the restaurant, and the waiters and waitresses were VERY knowledgeable about the food options. Came here for a work luncheon with a prix fixe menu. Had the burrata and grilled flat iron steak. It was my first time having burrata, but it was amazing. Creamy soft cheese with the flavor profile of mozzarella, spread onto grilled and buttered bread. It was fascinating to cut into and eat. Reminded me of a poached egg in consistency. The steak was perfectly medium rare for me. Tender and flavorful. Didn't have to add any salt. I'm one of those people that hates cilantro, but I couldn't taste any of the bad notes in the chimichurri sauce. Fingerling potatoes were... fine. Nothing to write home about, but not bad. Service was excellent. Attentive waiters and bartender. Ambience was casual and relaxing. I want to come back and try their full menu at some point. The food here is definitely upscale, so I'm interested in their burger. read more

It's kind of a boring atmosphere. Mostly older after work crowd. Nothing exciting about decor. Simple. Clean. I think they cater to people who are not paying for their own food. Their companies are. Service: We had a female server that was nice. The lady next to me was sick and I asked to move. They obliged. My next server was not so great. A man. He forgot to put an order in for something. And went MIA for most of the meal. Another server tried to help me order. He was very enthusiastic about the pasta w uni. I said I wasn't sure I would like it and he said don't worry try it and if you don't like it please tell us. When I got the dish it was very dry and fishy. I asked to send it back and my original server was annoyed w/ me. My husband is vegetarian so they brought us vegetarian amuse bouche. I asked what everyone else was having and if I could try it. The waiter was annoyed and made me feel embarrassed for asking. Then he forgot to bring it and I asked another server. Not the kind of service I expected. The food. Simple. Just focus on fresh ingredients mostly grilled or roasted and seasoned simply. No fancy sauces. Is it worth the $? I'm not sure. You order all proteins on their own and sides separately. The food is fresh. I had oysters and a piece of fish. Good. We got shishito peppers and roasted mushrooms as sides. Mushrooms were yummy. Shishito- They forgot to put order in and we got them late. Great food, incredible decor, and superb service. Look, the place ain't cheap so check your wallet prior, but the food is worth it. We would have regular bi-monthly :) dinners at craft. I would always want, when the seating was available, as close to the subtle yet REALLY IMPRESSIVE paintings in the back. They appear to be a panel series - my interpretation is of fireworks rising just on the evening's horizon. Beautiful. And the interior design won an award sometime around 2003ish (Disclosure: Im in the A/E fields). Anything meats-oriented is spectacular... the beef flat iron and short ribs are excellent... the oysters are one of the greatest.. the octopus carpaccio is awesome and worth it... and the mushrooms are so worth the try. Craft is pretty impressive on every level. Walking in, I was in love with the décor and lighting. It is simple, modern, and so warm and welcoming! The tables are spaced very nicely so you don't feel like you're on top of your neighbors. The high ceilings allow for gorgeous drop lights. And the sound is so well-controlled that you can actually have a lovely conversation and hear everyone at your own table. Now to the service...it's perfect. Absolutely an A+ for each person in the restaurant, from the host to the wait staff to the on-site management. And the food...I was blown away! The warm Octopus starter was a great choice, and I took the recommendation of our server for the seasonal Pumpkin Agnolotti which was so delicious. Sadly, I had a terrible experience at craft. I became violently sick from eating morel mushrooms with one beer. I appreciate the attempt at putting seasonal dishes on the menus but the chef and staff be aware of this toxic combination and warn customers. Morels are a seasonal dish and foragers / mushroom people know that this is toxic combination. I wasn't aware and vomited all Saturday night and felt like crap the next two days... Today is the first day I've felt like doing anything and I came immediately to write this review to warn others. The bottom line is: If you see morels on the menu, DON'T MIX MORELS WITH ALCOHOL. Absolutely amazing! We walked in without a reservation. It was a 2 hour wait, so we decided to leave and just as we were walking out a cancellation. We were seated immediately. The ambiance is nice. The service and food was amazing. We weren't rushed to leave or made to feel uncomfortable for sitting to long. Numerous staff checked in on us to see if we needed ANYTHING. I ordered a cocktail and it took to long so managment comped us. We felt at home. We had to force ourselves to leave. Thank you for your amazing service!! read more

Craft is one of those NYC restaurants that when people walk by, they start talking about it, so when I saw that it was participating in restaurant week for lunch, I took it as an opportunity to try out such a renown place. I got the duck liver puree, craft burger and ice cream and my friend got the beef tartare, short rib gemelli, and apple tartin. I thought it was very good, my medium cooked burger was melt in your mouth type buttery, but overall I didn't think the meal was worth $29. My friend's meal was probably more worth it for the price, but I wanted to get something different than her. Service was okay. Maybe we weren't dressed up enough for lunch, but we were treated like high schoolers and not getting first class service from what's supposed to be a first class restaurant, but oh well. I know this place is normally really expensive, but I'm not dying to come back like I expected. I really want to try their sister restaurants craftbar and riverpark (which had dinner menus for RW, but I just didn't have the chance to try them out), but will keep an eye out for those next time. read more

From the moment we walked in the door, I knew Craft would be an illustrious dining experience. I had been towing my suitcase around all day, and the maître d' graciously whisked it away and gave me a tag. My friend and I were shown to a table in the middle of the vast dining room. Though there was a full house, the ambiance was comfortable and it was easy to have a conversation without much competing background noise. The server explained that they very purposefully do not put a lot of description on their menu, as questions and further explanation from the waitstaff are encouraged. My friend started with "19th on Fab," a cocktail including tequila, passion fruit, fresh lime, and jalapeño. It was refreshing and had a good bite. I opted for the "Black Widow:" bourbon, Averna amaro, aperol, and black walnut bitters. Exquisite and smooth, it went down quite easily. We agreed to share two first-course dishes, two entrées and two side dishes. We started with the sweetbreads and Jerusalem artichokes, and also the crispy bacon. Both appetizer choices were extremely satisfying to the palate, especially the bacon. The juicy cuts must have been 3 inches thick and the flavor permeated my mouth and made me wish I could close my eyes and re-live this experience for the rest of my life. For dinner we opted for the braised beef shortribs and the rabbit loin. They were both satisfying, but the real stars were the sides: celery root purée and bone marrow. Bone marrow was not listed as a choice, but I asked the server about it, since one of my other friends had raved about Craft's bone marrow on a previous dining experience. The server gladly found a way to add the bone marrow on as a side dish, and we were on our way to food nirvana. As if all of these rich foods didn't fill us up enough, we still figured out a way to find room for dessert. We chose the pineapple tarte tatin, served with candied coconut and rum-vanilla ice cream. For our second choice, we picked the chocolate pot de crème with gooseberries, cacao nib, and chocolate sorbet. After they boxed up all of our leftovers (we had a lot!), we made our way to the front of the restaurant. As a parting gift, we were given chocolate banana muffins for breakfast the next morning. I ate mine in the cab on the way home. Consistent with the rest of our meal, it was extremely fulfilling and delectable. Tom Colicchio didn't let us down at his flagship restaurant. With my belly full and my palate pleased, I think I just may get a good night's sleep in the city that typically fails to do so. read more

I am a Colicchio fan! Have been for a while. Naturally when planning this trip to NYC this was on our list of places to try. Got seated immediately upon arrival. Staff was friendly and attentive all night. Like our experience in most finer NYC restaurants, the wine list was ridiculously priced although we did find a wine in our price range. Score! The restaurant is dimly lit with an array of music on their playlist: Sting to Salsa...they had it all. We started with a macro mango cilantro amuse bouche which was really good. We had the octopus for appetizer as well as the wagyu carpaccio. They were very well made and we were really enjoying it when they bring out a hamachi for us because "the chef wanted us to try it". Hmmm, really? OK, bring it on! For dinner we both had the sirloin cooked differently with sides of gnocchi, bok choy and the risotto. Everything came out in it's own copper cookware which made it feel personalized somehow, not to mention just how wonderful it looked plated that way. It all tasted as good as it looked. The star of the show though? hands down, the gnocchi! We could have had just that for dinner. Probably the best we have ever had! Ever! I ordered a 3 cheese tasting which, unlike Le Bernadin (one of the other restaurants we tried), came with a spoonful of honey and a date jam which went perfectly with the cheese. Because that was not enough, we ended our night with the doughnuts which were a fun treat. No coffee for us this time. Overall it was a really nice experience in an uncluttered, simple, yet elegant environment. I love that you compose your own plate and that the ingredients are local and/or seasonal. There was not an ounce of pompousness to be had here. Lovely time and place. On a funny note, while we were leaving one of the managers came over and thanked us for coming again. It was all so fast. We smiled and nodded realizing that, um, this was our first time here. What did he mean "again"? He then said that it was too bad Justin was not there because he would have loved to have seen us. Was I being punked? Now I get it. The hamachi! the chef wanting us to try it. Who did he think we were? Who is Justin? This was all very funny and I don't know why we did not correct him but as fast as it happened we left looking at each other in a little bit of a wine daze trying to figure it out. I wanted to be "Colicchio'd" in the worst way. I know that may sound weird or even a little dirty, but trust me, it's a compliment. I wanted to splurge on a dinner with my friends during our visit to New York. I needed to find a tasting menu that made me want to drool every time I read it. The one tasting menu that I kept going back to was the one for Craft. Their tasting menu changes slightly every week, but all the changes they make do not downgrade the quality of their menu at all. In fact, it's the opposite. It feels like it's constantly enhanced in quality and appeal. Also, a 7-course dinner for "just" $110 per person? That's a bargain compared to other tasting menus that other restaurants in the city offer. So without further ado (you want to talk about weird sounding words..."ado" is right up there), the rundown of the tasting menu we thoroughly enjoyed: White Asparagus w/ Citrus & Sicilian Pistachio - This was a great start to our meal. Everything on the plate complimented each other so well! You got the sweetness from the white asparagus, the slightly acidic, yet refreshing taste of the citrus (I think they were tangerine segments), along with the crunchiness of the pistachio for texture. Phe-nom-e-nal. Soft Shell Crab w/ English Pea & Piment d'Espelette - I love me some soft shell crab. This one was cooked to perfection. It wasn't greasy and didn't have any "plasticky" taste to it texturally. I didn't know what the heck "Piment d'Espelette" was, but I looked it up and it's a chili pepper that's cultivated exclusively in the southwestern town of Espelette in France. Now you know too. You're welcome. Diver Scallops w/ Fava Beans, Chickpeas & Pancetta - By far my favorite dish of the entire meal! The scallop was so silky and buttery and all things great and wonderful! I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the best tasting scallop I've ever tasted in my life. The crispy pancetta was a perfect compliment to it as well. I would've been extremely happy if they just gave me this dish for the remaining four courses! Poussin w/ Ramps & Morels - Poussin means "young, small chicken" in French. C'mon, even I knew that. The dish had a small, succulent chicken breast along with some dark meat that was compressed into what looked like a small piece of chicken "sausage." The glaze that covered the chicken sausage seemed a bit too caramelized and sticky. And if I had to give another slight criticism to the dish (what?!), the morel mushrooms were braised in butter and you REALLY tasted the butter. It was a little too rich for my palate. Lamb Loin w/ Artichoke, Spring Garlic & Ligurian Olives - This was a very well made and balanced dish. I'm not a big fan of olives, but it worked well with the lamb loin. The lamb loin itself was perfectly cooked and had a thin layer of fat on it, which made it taste even better. Fat equals flavor! One of my friends didn't like lamb, so they replaced the lamb with pieces of wagyu sirloin instead. I have to add that the staff at Craft was very accommodating to all of our wants and needs. Chilled Rhubarb Soup w/ Creme Fraiche & Almond - Ah, the palate cleanser! It did its job in exemplary fashion. The creme fraiche was reFRAICHEing (Ha...ha...) and the almond was actually in the form of tiny cocoa puffs. That's the best way I can describe it. Once again, great way to add texture to the dish. Chocolate Stout Cake w/ Malt & Roasted Banana - Super moist cake + delectable roasted banana + chocolate malt = the perfect ending to a fine meal. We were also given some bite-sized cookies at the end our of meal; compliments from the pastry chef. One was a lemon and thyme shortbread cookie and the other one was a chocolate ganache-like cookie...I was too pre-occupied dreaming and replaying the meal in my head to pay attention when they were describing the cookies. Came here after a good food deprived week thanks to Hurricane Sandy. Came here on their first day back in business after Lower Manhattan got its power back. The waiter thanked us for joining them. I thought the place would be empty, but they had a nice amount of people throughout the night. The decor was really nice, it was open and spacious and low-key. Food: First Course: Octopus & Harissa & Foie Gras, Spigarello & Quince The octopus was cooked slowly so that the meat does not get too chewy. This is easily the best octopus I've ever had. Slow cooking it creates a nice and almost like a very dense fish texture to it, which was amazingly good. The Foie Gras was a substitute for the Suckling Pig dish which they ran out of. We changed our mind and thought about canceling this dish to replace it with the Amish Chicken. It was too late for the kitchen since all they had to do was pan sear it, so they gave it to us anyways - Compliments on the House! How awesome is that! Second Course: Chestnut Agnolotti & Pork Ravioli & Steen's Cane Syrup I really recommend both of them. I love chestnuts so can't go wrong with Chestnut pasta, where else have you seen that before? The Pork Raviolli might have my heart though. It tasted like pulled pork inside a juicy ravoilli shell. Third Course: Amish Chicken & Halibut & Miso Amish Chicken was nice and succulent. It was again slowly cooked so that the skin was still moist and the meat was tender. The Halibut & Miso dish was interesting, but I didn't fancy it. I like the Miso flavor but it not that special for someone who goes to Japanese restaurants frequently. Side: Hen of the Woods Again, if you visit a lot if Japanese Restaurants you would have discovered this style of cooking and seasoning mushrooms not new. While this is probably the first time I've had this type of mushroom, I would say save your money on this one - it is way overpriced. Drinks: Bee Sting & Gewurztraminer Peter Sölva Wine & Southern Tier, Harvest Ale I really liked the drinks. Can't go wrong with a cocktail, wine or beer! Not many places can master that - or perhaps we just got lucky with our choices? Conclusion: Go! Skip the tasting menu. Make your own course meal and you will not regret it! You will also be reminded of them the next morning with two little muffins from Craft! read more

Ate here last night for our wedding anniversary and it was seriously the best overall restaurant experience I've ever had. When we got engaged, we had dinner at Daniel in New York to celebrate. When we got married, we had dinner at Quince in San Francisco to celebrate. Both of those were nice, but nothing like what Craft has to offer. Craft is a beautiful place - it's high end but not at all stuffy. The design is open, warm and beautiful and you will not find better service anywhere. They really went out of their way to congratulate us on our anniversary with complimentary champagne, little desserts, and even a muffin to go for the morning after. When I asked for the label of a glass of wine I had with dinner, they peeled the label off the bottle, put it behind plastic and presented it to me in a card! Such class. Dale was our waiter and he was always happy to amuse us and ask us for our feedback on the tasting menu. The farm to table seven course tasting menu is pricey ($130) and the chef is adamant about the whole table participating (so I had to get it since my husband wanted it), but it's really a fantastic choice because you get to sample the BEST dishes of the restaurant and it will not disappoint. We started with some champagne and oysters. The Kusshi oysters from British Columbia were wonderful, but the Barron Point oysters from Washington stole the show. Then the first course of the tasting menus - Australian Wagyu with pickled quail eggs and crispy shallots. The beef was raw and sliced very thin like a carpaccio, and the flavors of the quail egg and shallots were tremendous with it. The second course was my favorite - the farm egg with Jerusalem artichoke and white truffles. I thought the dish would come with pieces of white truffles. Uh, no. They come over with a giant white truffle the size of a fist, and slice the thing generously on top of the dish - it was heaven, pure heaven. The egg seemed like it was panko fried, and just so perfect. The third course was one of my husband's favorites - the bacon wrapped sturgeon with cauliflower, marcona almonds and caperberries. I liked this a lot, but I'm not a huge fan of sturgeon to begin with - it's a very dense fish with more of a consistency of chicken. The flavors were great though. The fourth course - sweetbreads with potato risotto and smoked creme fraiche with little mini potato chips. Here's the thing with this dish - the potato risotto wasn't a risotto at all, just more finely cubed white potatoes. It was delicious, but I just wasn't sure why it's called potato risotto - did we get something else entirely? The other thing - the sweetbreads were heavily battered and fried. no need. the flavors in the potatoes were heavenly, but the sweetbreads did nothing for the dish. I think seared over actual risotto probably was more of what I was expecting, but you know what - not a big deal. Before the fifth course of the tasting menu, we had wanted to try the foie gras with gooseberries so they brought that out. This was my second favorite dish... the foie gras was roasted to perfection - it melted on my palate, and the gooseberries made it such a decadent and wonderful little winter dish. The fifth course of the tasting menu was the short ribs with parsnip and red russian kale. The short ribs were so tender - no knife needed, and the pairings were excellent. Thing is, this particular dish is sticky, no, gummy almost. The glaze stuck to my lips and teeth, and I told our server they could market it as an industrial adhesive. Delicious, but the texture was just a little weird. The sixth course - warm burrata with persimmon toast. This is where my husband started getting full. I love burrata (warm stretched creamy mozzarella) so I ate it all - and the persimmon toast was lovely. The last course - a warm chocolate truffle cake with gooseberries, cacao nib brittle and chocolate sherbert. I'm not even a huge fan of chocolate but this was incredible. The sticky chewy texture of the cacao nib brittle really complimented the rest - great choice. They also have some fantastic wines - my husband and I each enjoyed a glass with dinner. I'm usually more of a fan of Oregon pinot noirs, and they brought me a red burgundy from cote d'or that was amazing - the label is Domaine Chandon de Briailles, Pernand-Vergelesses if anyone cares. Overall the dinner was expensive, of course, but worth every penny and a GREAT special occasion type of place. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience :) OH, best part? They were so gracious with not rushing us out at all... we had an 11pm post ballet dinner reservation and were there until nearly 2am laughing and singing and being drunk obnoxious totally in love morons... as we left, we noticed we were the only people left in the restaurant! woops! read more

We had: Octopus and harissa Wild arugula and lemon salad (large and very fresh) Red snapper Amish chicken (best chicken I've ever had) side of brussel sprouts All dishes were large and sharable. I liked that they served it all family style so that we could try everything. The cocktails were also very very good. I had something that was bourbon and citrus... it was out of this world. So amazing! Now I know why Tom Colicchio is a Judge on Top Chef! It's so Expensive but oh so good. I only come here for special occasions. The service is spectacular. When you call to make your reservations you must tell them why you are going. They personalize the menu wishing you a happy birthday or anniversary with your names, They also place the name on the dessert. They helped making the night special. I always leave impressed. The food is great for sharing, they don't really have much entrees so your better off just buying a bunch of different things and sharing. The menu is designed in a way that is great for mixing and sharing. The portions are not very big but enough to share they also send out tastings which are delicious and little wonderful surprises. You will leave there stuffed and satisfied. A bill for two with drinks and dessert is about $200-$250 with tip. I always feel like it's money well spent when I go. read more

Wish I had the ability to give 4.5 stars. Over the past few years, a small group of us would go to Per Se over Memorial Day weekend. This time we decided to try Craft. Let me start by saying that Craft is not Per Se, but then again, it is not trying to be. Craft's goal is to let simple ingredients shine through and it does that well. The dishes are well executed, service is friendly and overall efficient, with only a few minor hick-ups. We started the evening with the foie gras terrine which we enjoyed with a 2000 Dom Perignon (they offer corkage for $45 / $90 for a magnum). The foie was perfect with pink peppercorns providing a subtle kiss of spice which was complimented by the accompanying Pineapple relish. Our table went for the tasting menu, allowing us to sample many dishes and some extra ingredients (like fiddlehead ferns) which were not available al a carte. - Our first course was Hamachi w/Yuzu and Sea Beans. The dish was well balanced and the sea bean was a little expression of the ocean. - Next we enjoyed Sweet Pea soup with Peekytoe crab. I was surprised by how flavorful this dish was. The peekytoe was very flavorful and sweet and complimented the sweetness of the peas. - King Salmon, made perfectly succulent by poaching it in olive oil, topped with spring garlic and fresh chickpeas. Great example of a simple dish executed perfectly. We paired this with a white Burgundy. - The Guinea Hen w/Morels & Fava Beans made you wonder why Guinea Hen was not served at many more restaurants. The Morels were roasted and basted in butter, accentuation its earthiness. Paired this with a Red Burgundy. - Lamb Loin w/Farro, Lamb Bacon, Stinging Nettles & Fiddlehead Ferns was another highlight of the menu which we enjoyed with a 2003? Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cepages. - Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta Hibiscus & Pistachio Sorbet had a tad too much hibiscus, which overpowered the vanilla panna cotta for me. - Chocolate-Hazelnut Trifle Bananas & Long Pepper Ice Cream. The triffle was perfect and the long pepper ice cream was unique but not for me. Overall, the restaurant delivered on its promise with well executed dishes which I consider to be good value. Might return to try the short ribs and risotto (does it really spread on the plate?) in cooler weather. read more

Tom Colicchio practice what he preach on Top Chef. I ran across this restaurant the first night I was in NYC and decided to add to my "to tried list". I am glad I did. Every dish has texture and taste contrast (add bread crumbs to add texture, add yogurt to add sour, list goes on and on). The restaurant does not have dress code (which is plus when you are in NYC and its 90+ degree out). However, the will put you way in the back so the trendy people cannot see you). I highly recommend the tasting menu if you are there. You will taste of everything (Love the pork dish, Love the beef dish). read more

Being a huge Top Chef fan I was beyond excited to eat here and I was not disappointed! The restaurant is beautiful, the food is great and the staff is wonderful. One of the best meals I have ever eaten. Full stop. We got the tasting menu; which involved fluke crudo , morel ravioli, butter poached lobster, short rib, and a strawberry dessert. We added on ALIGOT (mashed potatoes with cheese, essentially equal parts potato and gruyere or Comte), which sounds excessive--it WAS, and it was one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted. Ive never posted before tonight but tonight was surprisingly ugly - had a 730 res and show up at 720 - at 730 they came out and said they needed more time, as they sat others but we waited, till 745. We were seated and the couple to left and right were just getting dinner, remember that. 8 -10 min to get our waiter over. I ordered the dry aged steak medium rare - $65. Foie gras app for $35. My guest got the lobster $47 and Brussel sprouts $13. Foie was ok - it was pan roasted and torchon, lobster was good, my steak was horrendous. Cut wrong - giant thick pieces impossible to cut, wasn't med rare it was basically raw and somewhat cold - there was one piece I couldn't get my fork even a quarter way in to cut it. It was terrible. Also our waiter didn't come around for 40 minutes. We literally had new couples right and left, sit order eat and get dessert before they cleared the table - I had to tell the secondary staff of the issue to get the waiter over. Ordered dessert which was very good actually. Eventually he came back and took the $65 steak off...I asked the feedback be given to the chef as I have no idea how that left the kitchen - there was a piece I chewed no lie 5 min and had to spit it out. Sooo much unrendered fat I had to spit out too - then he didn't even clear dessert or run the check - nothing - the other waiters did more for us then him - gave a 10% tip on the reduced amount - I almost gave nothing but he took off the steak so he told someone - see pic below - just terrible and quite disappointing for the owners rep and price point. $6 for a a tiny glass bottle of coke ugh....you can see the poke holes from my fork repeatedly trying to get thru the meat and all the spit out fat and gristle. All in all 2 hrs 15 min for dinner for 2 people vs the others that sat after next to us and left before - they were there 1 hr or so - oh they got their mains before we did lol and we were sitting 25 min before them I won't go back read more

I went to this restaurant twice during restaurant week. The first time was obviously a great experience. It was enough to bring me back for more. I ordered a fennel and apple salad that was crisp, brightly flavored, perfectly seasoned, and lovely to behold. Awesome, at least as salads go. I had cod as my entree and was very, very happy. The cod was perfectly cooked with crispy skin, no flabbiness or oiliness, and all of it from the beet and grain salad to the fish was perfectly balanced. Great, great food for the price and terrific service. The second time was disappointing. I had incredibly delicious, perfectly prepared and presented chicken liver mousse. I found no fault with that mousse at all. My dining companion had braised potato soup - also really satisfying. The entrees, however, weren't so good. I ordered chicken thighs. The sauce was a little too rich in rosemary. I found it overbearing, but that's just a taste thing. Otherwise, the cook on the chicken was very good and the size of the portion was surprisingly hearty. The problem was that I found olive pits and chips of bone in the dish, and the sauce was a little too salty and greasy, as if it had been over-reduced. My dining companion had mushroom risotto. It was delicious, but too salty. It too appeared over-reduced. The rice was gluey and the finish was so salty that he continued to remark on it all the way home. He had a salt buzz. I also had dessert both times. The first time the sticky toffee cake was really delicious. But on my second visit I had the chocolate semifreddo. It was deeply, satisfyingly delicious, but just freddo, no semi. It was frozen hard. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience. Some of the food was great. The service was friendly and efficient - really top notch. But the inconsistency was a bit of a bummer. I used to love this place. I really used to love the bar and might try that again. But this restaurant? I think I'll skip it in the future. read more

Tom Colicchio. I know him from Top Chef. His 'Wichcraft stores are yummy, but I've been disappointed by CraftBar and CraftSteak (Craftsteak is no longer in NYC btw...it was renamed Colicchio & Sons). I ordered myself the Hudson Toddy at the bar: bourbon, laird's applejack brandy, juniper, cinnamon, clove, lemon. It's a warm drink, and it is perfect for the winter weather. It was warm, sweet, soothing....It was really yummy. It was like tasting a spiked cider. They gave us an Amuse Bouche of a scallion puree soup thing. That was yummy. It really churned my taste buds. For apps, we had a 1/2 dozen oysters. For entree, i had the grilled wagyu Tri-tip. It was cooked a beautiful medium rare and it was tender and yummy. The server was well versed in telling me the difference between the grilled wagyu and the grilled bavette. For sides we shared the famous hen of the woods mushrooms and sauteed broccoli rab. The hen of the woods mushrooms were earthy, salty, and sweet. It had a char that was great and it had a hint of balsamic vinegar. The broccoli rab was cooked well and bitter as you assumed it'd be. For wine we shared the Robert Sinskey, POV, Los Carneros, 2010. It was delicious. For dessert, it was a blur because I was buzzed and sleepy by then but we shared the tart and we each had our own french press coffee. Piggy alert! Oink, oink, oink. I don't know where to begin, because just like the name suggests, Craft really does craft the most ah-mah-zing dishes. We had the tasting menu + wine pairing, and every dish outdid the last dish. It was like bites of heaven, white clouds of deliciousness, morsels of mouth-watering goodness. By the time the meal ended, my tummy was out to Timbuktu. The service was impeccable, they made sure you're very taken care of. Every time you get up to use the restroom, they fold your napkin. They constantly fill your water, they check in on you and ask if everything is alright. Our waiter, Cesar, was truly exceptional-- I hope his manager is reading this, because, he rocked our socks, off! One of the dishes contained cheese in it, so they made sure to do my dish without. Love that kind of attention to detail. In all my fine dining experiences, hands down, one of my favorites/pleasurable. I highly recommend this place, the food is beyond, the atmosphere is perfect, the staff- top notch, and really, I couldn't have asked for a better meal. Thank you, Craft. *thumbs way up* read more

I had high expectations for Craft. It was recommended by a friend who has great taste in food and generally gives great recommendations. My husband and I went there for lunch, so maybe that was the problem. Nothing we ordered really stood out: we had foie gras and oysters as appetizers; as my entree, I had the special of the day which was a squid salad and my husband had the Craft burger. We also had to find panna cotta and an apple tart for dessert and a couple of cocktails. Of those, foie gras probably was the best selection, but I've had better. The worst part of my experience however was when I went to use the restroom. I open the door and saw that there was a woman changing her baby with the baby laying on the bathroom floor in front of one of the stalls. The woman was extremely apologetic and said that they didn't have a changing station, so she had to do this. I was horrified. I've been to many nice restaurants, but have never seen anything as awful as this. Mind you, the restroom was very large, so they could've easily fit a changing station. Even if the restaurant is not intended for customers with kids, they could've still had one just in case as a courtesy to their customers. read more

We went here for dinner earlier this week. In summary, the service was excellent, the first course was disappointing, the main course and sides were AMAZING, and the dessert was perfect. First course - hamachi, peekytoe crab spaghetti, and honeynut squash agnolotti - The hamachi was pretty good, but nothing to rave about. Both pastas were underwhelming. Pretty small portions and the spaghetti was especially lacking flavor. Main course - pekin duck and scallops - Both of these were very good. We both split both and would agree that they were the highlights of our meal. Sides - brussels sprouts, gnocchi, and aligot - These were all really good. Our server allowed us to do half portions of the gnocchi and aligot which allowed us to try both without being overwhelmed by potatoes. Dessert - honeycrisp apple tarte tatin - Perfection! My boyfriend and I came here on our first trip to New York because we are huge Top Chef fans. The food was to die for! We had their two course lunch menu, which is an amazing deal: two courses for $29. I had the duck liver mousse and a duck ragu pasta dish (I think the pasta was strozzapreti). He had the beef carpaccio and burger. We also ordered a side of the focaccia; it was warmed and served with a delicious extra virgin olive oil for dipping. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavors were all on point. Also, their drink menu is quite extensive with endless wine options. The ambiance of the restaurant is very relaxing with soft lighting, large blue artwork on the walls, exposed brick and leather pieces lining the walls. The waitstaff was very accommodating and pleasant, checking in with us toward to end of the meal making sure we were happy. Overall it was such a great restaurant experience and I can't wait to go back on my next NY trip. read more

The food was fabulous and the service was great (though not impeccable). A delightful start with Sweet Potato Agnolotti and French Mâche & Apple. It's served "family style" so expect to share. The main courses were: Day Boat Chatham Cod and Diver Scallops. An interesting, yet attractive mix of flavors. For sides, palm hearts and shiitake mushrooms. Both prepared inventively, without any weirdness. Dessert was the chocolate waffle with carmelized bananas and peanut ice cream. A boy's gotta be a boy. The only thing that holds back from five stars is the slightly antisceptic decor/atmosphere...not sufficiently intimate. Also being surrounded by corporate diners was a little bit of a distraction. I usually try to review the day or the day after and I thought I did with this one, but I guess I didn't and now I can't remember what exactly happened that left me unimpressed with this place. I am not a fan of Tom Colicchio, so this definitely was not my choice, but L was taking me out and so I am not trying to be one of those girls. Moving on, they sat us in the cozy booth with the padded two-seater. I know we got some kind of appetizer that I no longer see on their current menu. We had oysters and they were good. L had the Porter House and it was good too. I think the reason why I wasn't too into this place because I remember having the branzini - I was really turned off by the flavour and by the strong fishy flavour. I had to ask them for lemons to try to help with the taste. We also shared a dessert and since I don't remember what we had - I want to say this place definitely left a lot to desire. read more

I think we were lucky to score a reservation - we were early arrivals and were instantly attended to by a small swarm of servers. Impressive menu....and odd, at first, to have to select from each column...The Quail is a paltry poultry serving. Be forewarned. Beautiful site. Ladies room is for very, very short people. read more

I give it a 4 star rating because of the great service and the high end decor. Their crispy bacon was the best dish I had. It was nothing like bacon, more like Chinese roasted pork the oil of which has been completely drained, leaving you the pure fat and tender meat. It was so so delicious! Their foie gras was too salty, and their braised soft shell crab was so bad that we had to send it back. On the good side, they did not skimp on the alcohol in my cocktail. Sweet! read more

Chain management sent me a gift certificate for about 1/4 the cost of our full bill, which I used at Craftsteak in Vegas (I'm not going to go back to Craft NY, where I had a bad experience, just because you give me some money - life is short!). Had a wonderful meal at Craftsteak Vegas. Great staff, incredibly busy and hopping, food was astoundingly good, wine was good. Everything good! My 4 star review here is for the Craftsteak in Vegas, not the piss-poor imitation in NYC. I do appreciate the gift certificate, though, which made me realize that management does actually want people to have a good time. Too bad good intentions aren't enough. read more

I came here for my birthday. Located in Midtown Manhattan this place is owned by Tom Caliccio, one of the judges on Top Chef. I was prepared to have my mouth wowed here. We have see actions at 7pm and we arrived 10 minutes early. They seated us right away even though they were busy. This is a totally dress up place, so I had my teen wear a button down shirt. We orders the rotisserie chicken, steak and the gnocchi. All superb dishes that wow! I received a cheesecake with a candle plus a personalized and dated Menu to take home to remember the night. This is one of my new faves.... The decor is modern and simple with unique pendant lighting. The place is dimly lit and the acoustics were well planned so it's not too loud in there. The service was excellent. I sat at the bar and they offered me a taste of Spanish mackerel with blood orange, piquillo and alleppo peppers. The fish was so fresh and the flavors were clean, spicy with a zest of citrus from the blood orange. I typically get tired of salads halfway through but not this one. I had the frisee salad with pancetta, diced hazelnuts and Parmesan. It was very crispy and full of nutty, savory flavors from the pancetta and the hazelnuts and the Parmesan cut the flavor a bit. Next. I had the 28 day sirloin. whoa nellie. this was some piece of meat! I enjoyed half of it, actually. The steak was marinated and topped with butter, I'm sure and rosemary. very nice! The gnocci was delicious as well. But the dessert!!! the donuts were to die for. The mini cake donuts were fresh, moist and dipped in cinnamon and sugar with two options for icing - chocolate and yes the vanilla orange cream. oh, gosh - i could have continued on with these little guys!! That vanilla orange cream hit the spot. I can still taste these. I wish I had one now for breakfast! I think my next "check in" will be the gym! I think the bill came to $140? $$$$ (again that was with only 2 glasses of wine). read more
