Biking around the city we stumbledid upon Craft Pizza. They have a happy hour...how cool is that? We ordered two slices a cheese and a pepperoni. They were both delicious. We've been in Chicago for seven years and had yet to find a decent pizza until now. Wait, it gets better, we were served in real plates with proper utensils. *backstory* I'm not from here, but on a prior visit to Chicago I went to Piece Pizza & Brewery. I really wanted to go back there because I had a great time and loved their pizza. The only problem was that I was traveling with 8 friends, which made it nigh impossible to get a table on a Saturday night. So as we're walking back to our weekend stay, feeling understandably dejected about being denied Piece Pizza, we stumble upon Craft Pizza. It looked clean enough, so we make our way in and order 4 large pizzas. Hands down, my favorite pizza was the sausage pizza. It had some of the best pizza-sausage I've ever tasted. A close second was the Amore, on which we chose to add prosciutto. I'm a sucker for prosciutto. Aside from the food, the atmosphere inside was delectable. The whole staff was rocking out to "Come On, Eileen" when we walked in the door. It definitely looked like the people enjoyed working there. Good work, Craft Pizza. I hope to be back soon. read more

Craft Pizza is delicious, has a fun/friendly staff, a patio and is a byob. What's not to like? They even use those fun recycled pizza boxes that break down into 4 plates and a smaller box for leftovers! The only weird part is a man who is either an owner or a ghost of an owner past, that lurks around the restaurant avoiding eye contact. He hangs out for awhile when it's busy but never lends a hand, then wordlessly rides off his scooter into the night. read more

Craft makes a great thin crust pizza. It's right around the corner from my place so it's become my go-to spot. However I have to give Piece Pizza the edge on thin crust pizza in the neighborhood. My one recommendation would be for when picking up slices. Make sure to ask for the slices to be thrown in the oven for a few minutes. 4.5 stars. The pizza is fantastic. I moved around the corner and I was so happy to find this place so close where I can easily pick up a pie to go or step in late for a slice. It's a bit pricey, but not ridiculous, and you can tell they're using quality products so it's worth the extra few bucks. It's becoming one of, if not, my favorite pizza in Chicago. For me, the crust is spot on. Soooooo good. Perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. My only gripe is staff at the register can be a bit rude and patronizing at times. I've noticed this especially when it seems to be busy. I understand it can get overwhelming on a Friday night, but don't act like I'm inconveniencing you by giving you business. read more

I didn't even know about Craft until I saw someone eating an amazing looking pizza at a brewery. I asked them where they got it, and the next night, I was ordering Craft. I got a plain jane delivered, and it got to my apartment way faster than expected. The 18'' is pretty huge and was super cheesy and hot. I'm a big fan of Coalfire, and I've read some comparisons of it to Craft. I'd say Craft is a weightier pizza. I'd actually call it a Connecticut pizza. I'm from CT, and lived in NYC for a long time, and this is the kind of pizza I would get in the part of CT close to the city. It's super close to a true NYC slice, but a little doughier and cheesier. I really enjoyed it and this will be my new go-to when I want a super cheesy pizza, but it probably wouldn't be my first choice if I wanted something a little thinner and lighter. read more

This place has been open a few years now. It seemed a little bumpy when it started - not a lot of customers, inconsistent hours and for weekend breakfast (which used to be offered). But the place stayed in business and is really successful. Can't comment on the meat, but the pizzas are consistently great. The manager, Johnnie is super friendly and the staff always is pleasant even when it is super busy. Seating is limited, but in the summer there are outdoor tables on the side street not Damen so you aren't sucking in car exhaust. You can get take out or go during off hours for shorter wait times. Had been wanting to try this place since it opened and finally did on a recent night. Really enjoyed it. Pizza was delicious, similar to what you'd get at a Coal Fire, but since it's byob and counter service, it winds up costing about half as much. Outdoor dining area is nice for nights w good weather, like the one we enjoyed, but w the restaurant sitting right on busy Damen Ave, it can get a little noisy, but hey, it's a happening area. Worker could have been a little more helpful w getting us some plates from a nearby cart instead of leaving us to maneuver from our seats, which were kinda pinned in due to nearby diners. I live a stone's throw of Craft Pizza and, frankly, despite proximity and delightful patio have avoided the place after one not-awesome experience last winter. Tonight I decided to take a chance and ordered their truffle pie to go. Oh my gosh it was fantastic! Service was excellent and staff super friendly - they said 30 mins and I set my timer to 30 mins - walked in to see my pie being boxed. The pizza itself was beyond delicious, truffle oil and delicious cheeses aplenty, but I was wow'd by the perfect crust. I'm now obsessed with said crust and texted friends to come over and try it with me. My only regret is waiting so long to try them again. Craft is now top 5 in my neighborhood dining options. read more

I've always found pizza in Chicago to be lacking - it either has mediocre crust/dough, sub-par ingredients, or a combination of the two. How refreshing that Craft Pizza has opened in my neighborhood, putting to shame any other pizza I've had in Chicago. The ingredients are excellent and the crust perfect - just the right combination of chewy and crispy. I've already bought three pies since it opened (yes, that's about one per week). I also tried a pretzel bagel this weekend (amazing), with Sparrow coffee, which was a great quick breakfast (I just wish they served bagels every day!). Craft is a new casual little pizzeria recently opened in Wicker Park. It looks like a nice little neighborhood joint. A few tables outside of glorified patio furniture, a simple interior, where your order is called at the counter and you walk over and grab it yourself. If this is your neighborhood joint though, consider yourself very lucky. Craft starts out with a thin yet chewy crust. Instead of opting for the cracker, crispy each piece has a slightly pliable crust that I'm a big fan of. The ingredients are top notch and fresh. The mozzarella cheese on our margherita pie had melted into shiny layers of cheesy goodness with just the right amount of saltiness. The casual nature of the place really stands out as a strength, it's BYOB which makes it easier of your wallet and a large pie could easily feed 3 -4 people depending on your appetite. We went on a Friday night and they had plenty of space. It's new though and I wouldn't count on that staying this way as this place is good enough to garner a following. It wouldn't be my pick for best pizza in the city, but is close enough with enough strengths (quality/cost, BYOB) that I'll be coming back. read more
