    Calamari

Such an amazing restaurant, I can't recommend enough. We came for dinner so the place was packed with people. The inside of the restaurant felt like a classic Italian restaurant you might find in Italy. Our waiter was super nice and gave some great wine recommendations. First, they bring you some bread and give you a small platter mixed with olive oil, fresh garlic, and Parmesan. This is the first time I've seen it done this way but it was delicious. The calamari was delicious, not too fried and oily but still had so much flavor to it. We also decided to order the peperoni pizza, which is just a magnificent pizza. It was just cooked perfectly with just the right amount of flavor and spice. I ordered the raviolacci toscani, which took a bit of time to come out (but understandable given the amount of people). It was just delicious. The meat filling had such a deep flavor and the sauce wasn't so heavy that I didn't want to finish it. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a good Italian meal with great portions. Reservations might be hard to get so plan ahead.

Complimentary bread with fresh garlic and oil

Sometimes it's just the little things..... I had the good fortune to have dinner recently at Tuscany-Taylor. It was packed last Saturday night but fortunately I had a reservation for 7 pm and was seated about 10 minutes later. By the way the 'Taylor' in the restaurants name is the street it's located on. It has the feel of a popular neighborhood restaurant that attracts customers from all over Chicago. I ordered the spaghetti di mare for $31 and added the insalata della casa for another $10. First to arrive was the complimentary bread basket and olive oil except for one little thing. The waiter took a small plate and began crushing some garlic cloves on it and then adding the oil and mixing it all together. I could easily tell the freshness of the mixture on my delicious bread and it was hard not to eat the entire basket. Next, the salad arrived. Most side salads like this are an afterthought and put together to just get by. Sure, this salad had nice looking romaine, carrots, tomatoes and vinaigrette, etc. but the little extra this salad had were cucumber slices that actually tasted like real cucumber with a delicious flavor AND house made croutons that had a unique texture making me realize what a real crouton tastes like. Finally the entree appeared in a big bowl. Spaghetti with calamari, mussels, clams and shrimp of course in a red marinara. Kind of typical ingredients but the little difference with this entree was the actual amount of seafood included. Believe me, the picture I took doesn't do it justice. It was all the seafood I could want. Tuscany doesn't skimp with the content in this dish. It tasted great! The table service was very professional during the meal. It was easily a 4 star meal but it's because of Tuscany's attention to the little things I give 5 stars.

I went to eat here on a Thursday. This place has valet parking & is only open for 5 hours the night I attended. The Clam Vongole wasn't on the menu but we requested the dish and the restaurant gladly prepared the dish for us. The restaurant is a la cart however the proportions are healthy + hearty. The drinks are not watered down and the staff didn't rush us whatsoever in fact the staff made every effort to make sure we were comfortable and were very attentive. The decoration is quaint and trendy plus very pleasant.

This is a solid and reliable option in the Little Italy/University Village. So many businesses in the area have closed and there has been a lot of change to Taylor street, especially since Covid. You can come here and still feel that you're having an authentic Taylor street experience, complete with white tablecloths and excellent, warm service. My favorite dish is the pollo montecarlo, a chicken dish with prosciutto in a wine sauce. Some other good options are the meatballs and chicken parm. Look forward to coming back.

I had one of the best Italian meals I've ever had last night at Tuscany. I had the linguine with shrimp in a savory red sauce. I also had a garden salad. For dessert, I had the chocolate lava cake with berries and vanilla gelato. I was an extremely happy customer. Service was excellent. I went early but if you go later, make a reservation. It fills up fast and I can see why. I will return very soon.

Mezzaluna Cipriani and Lobster Linguine Special!

Food was delicious, both pastas were cooked to perfection. The sauce on the Mezzaluna was to die for! The wine we got was reasonably priced and easy drinking. We never had to fill our water or wine the staff was on top of it! Definitely a more quiet crowd but a good spot for reasonable prices and excellent food!

After spending a day walking downtown Chicago enjoying the holiday lights on Michigan Avenue and State Street, Macy's windows not the same as Marshall Fields's back in the day, my friends and I were ready to hit Little Italy for some comfort food. We had to wait a few minutes for our table even with reservations , they were packed. They bring warm bread with roasted garlic to enjoy with olive oil and Parmesan cheese. We decided to split two entrees as we heard the chicken was a large portion. The fettuccine was good not great but the chicken was fabulous, I'd go back just for this dish, easy to split for two people so at $30, it's a good deal. My friend ordered a tiramisu, she said she's had better.

If you have seen any of my other reviews, I always get a meatball when I'm at a place that has them. They almost never live up to my expectation. But this place has the new gold standard for a meatball. It was everything you want. It is fork tender, full of flavor, no chewy ground up bits. The pizzas were authentic and thin. With fabulous house made red sauce that wasn't too thick and overwhelming. The flavor was A+ The cocktails were so good! All made from scratch with love. The ambiance was cozy and comfortable. Perfect for a group or a date. They have a full bar, and also great seating with perfect lighting. This is a new favorite for me in the city.

It just has that classic Chicago feel that makes the entire dining experience even better. And the drinks? So good! I highly recommend the Old Fashioned -- definitely one of my favorites. The reservation we got was for the patio, but when we arrived, they didn't have a table for us. We waited probably an extra 15 mins and then the lady was able to arrange an inside table for us. She had been getting a bit of lip from folks coming in just before us, and so she definitely seemed to be dishing out some lip herself. I think that should have been a better experience. I will acknowledge that we did appreciate a table inside eventually when the one just outside wasn't there. Our server once seated was like, amazing. To me she made up for the passive aggressive comments from before. She was so patient and well-spoken and all. Seemed like she was from a Michelin-star place. So to start, the Caesar salad was ok. What was nice in there, it had these crispy chips of some kind in the salad. Overall, the dressing could've been a bit more caesar-y. Then we also had these truffle oil mozzarella sticks and those were pretty amazing. Served with marinara sauce, which was pretty good. But the sticks themselves were like so cheesy and gooey and freshly made, it was great. Then for the mains, we had a vodka pasta and one other one. Both were vegetarian pasta options, which is great. Both had really nice flavored sauces and the pastas were also done right. I forgot to ask for crushed red pepper as some spice boost would've made things even better. Also, one of the pastas was a gluten free - and it was really good - in the sense that I never would've guessed that it was gf. It's a corn-based pasta, in case anyone wants to know. I really wish they had an eggplant parm, but unfortunately they had only chicken and veal parms, only. Lastly, and to top everything else off, we had a soft-serve almond-caramel (not the exact name) gelato. Wow, that was SO good. Nutty flavor and creamy rich. Probably the best course of the night. Just outstanding. I chose it based on ChatGPT recommendation and it was just spot ON. Definitely a place I'll come back to.

We started with the truffle mozzarella sticks and burrata, followed by the rigatoni vodka and chicken parmesan. That chicken parm was easily one of the standout dishes of my entire Chicago trip. For dessert we had the citrus olive oil cake, and then they surprised us by gifting the table their soft serve. We absolutely did not need another bite of food at that point... and yet somehow that soft serve disappeared. It was amazing. And the service? Top notch. The octopus surprised me because octopus can be hit or miss for me, but they did it really well! The table bread was also pretty good and cheesy. The Caesar was just fine. Nothing special but not bad (which is good coming from me since I'm not usually big on kale). Of course all of the pastas were yummy. The fusilloni was definitely my favorite from the noodle shape to the sausage and cheese. The ricotta dumplings were suuuuuper cheesy which I really liked (though I could see why others wouldn't) and had a melt in your mouth softness. The rigatoni was tasty, but kinda just tasted like a normal red sauce so would probably try something more interesting next time. We really enjoyed the chicken parm, too. The fritto misto was ok, the breading tasted like it was old or had been sitting out. Not as crispy as we'd hope. To be honest felt like frozen calamari quality. The Alla Vita chopped was pretty standard, kinda reminded me of Olive Garden salad lol. The stars of the meal were the tagliatelle and cappelletti pasta. Both were super flavorful and pasta cooked well. The bone-in ribeye was a little on the sweeter side, definitely lacked a crust and salt. I'd pass on the steak IMO. Our biggest qualm was the timing of the dishes coming out. The pasta came out 30-35 minutes after the appetizer and salad which is fine, but the steak coming out 15 minutes after the pasta kinda ruined it. We'd love to eat the entrees (steak and pasta) together, and not finish our pasta first or let it go cold then eat steak alone.. ya know? We had ordered crispy potatoes but cancelled due to the wait. Ended the night with mango passion fruit sorbet with a prosecco float. Big mistake on the prosecco float haha it was so tarte and bitter, would def recommend trying the sorbet alone! Overall, glad we finally got to try this place. Focus more on the pastas and skip the steak. Very beautiful inside.
