Truly one of the most enjoyable Italian food experiences in Chicago. It's worth the effort to plan ahead and make a reservation. Reservations are released 21 days ahead of time, which I personally find impossible to make. Every time I've checked over the last several years there have been no availability. Yesterday I decided to pop on their website again and was delighted to find that they had released same day dinner reservations for patio only dining. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining so I went ahead and booked a table for Friday night. I felt like I won the dinner lottery. Service was wonderful and I didn't mind sitting outside at all next to the road with cars. I actually never stepped foot in the restaurant so cannot comment on what it's like inside. But do not give up that patio dining reservation if it's available. All of our dishes were delicious. I was really impressed by the meatball appetizers, chicken vesuvio (the potatoes are a must get as a side if you skip this dish), and branzino. The meats and sauces were wonderfully balanced and tender. Nothing tasted overly salted. Ironically, the pasta felt less of a star compared to the other dishes. And of course I had to get the gelato, which was so aesthetically presented and the taste just reminded me of an Italian summer vacation. read more

Downgrading bc of the pickup service I had today. (Spoiler: Karen the host is aptly named). I consistently order pickup (direct and DD) and it's usually quick and consistent - my order is always ready before the quoted time. Today, I came in and there was no host at the front for long enough that several people just walked straight back (maybe they were meeting someone but didn't seem like it) and several servers walked in and outside without greeting. By the time Karen shows up again, it's me and another person waiting. Instead of asking "who was here first?" She services the white man, why would you assume he's there first?, and I have to listen to him asking if he can sit at the bar, doesn't understand why he can't sit at the bar, needs recommendations nearby where he can drink and wait at, if they'll hold his bags, and his whole life story. She's about to walk away with his bags when I say that I was here first and I'm picking up. She tells me go to the side window outside which I've never been prompted to do. I say so and she asks for the name, if I'm the person it's for and the gets on her walkie to see if anyone can walk it up. No apology and didn't appreciate her tone throughout the exchange. Ciccio Mio is a beautiful restaurant that does not disappoint. My friends and I came here for an occasion which I recommend as it is pricey but worth it. The staff are all very nice and the mood inside makes it perfect to enjoy a beautiful dinner. We ordered a lot of food but it was all worth it. To start, we had the truffle mozzarella sticks ($23.99) and Focaccia ($18.99) which both were great to start. The whipped ricotta was delicious with the focaccia and the mozzarella sticks were very cheesy and you can taste the truffle but it wasn't overpowering. For the entrees, we ordered the Carbonara ($25.99), Truffle Malfadine ($24.99), Rigatoni Vodka ($25.99), and the chicken Parmesan ($34.99). My favorites were the Vodka and chicken Parmesan. I enjoyed the other pastas as well and I don't think there'd be any complaints of getting the others. I enjoyed them all very much. We also ordered the mushrooms ($15.99) and potato's ($12.99) which I would get every time. The potato's were very crispy which I love and the mushrooms was carbonara style which was rich. We enjoyed our meals very much that we all ordered dessert as well. We ordered the gelato ($9.99), tiramisu ($17.99), and the olive oil cake ($14.99). Out of the three, my favorite was the gelato as it was a hint of the almonds and crunch. It was a delicious gelato and perfect as a dessert. When they say its so hard to get a reservation here - they aren't kidding. I was on my laptop exactly at 9am and my slot got taken as I was about to reserve... so I got stuck with a 8:45pm reservation. Nonetheless, I wanted to eat here so bad to celebrate my 30th birthday so I kept it. The place is pretty small, yet very intimate and romantic. I was a little annoyed because even with my reservation, I still had to wait like 15 min for my table.... Staff kept apologizing but still... I love all the Hogsalt restaurants so I knew I would enjoy this meal. However, not my fav meal by Hogsalt, but still really good. We tried some crossover menu items as well as some Ciccio Mio exclusive items. You can never go wrong with the truffle mozzarella sticks. We get them every time. Everything was perfection. Our waiter was so knowledgeable about wine and the menu. He was personable and friendly and went above and beyond offering to split dishes and even gave us a tip to get the small lasagna version so we could try more things. The decor is impeccable. Cozy, nice but not stuffy, I never wanted to leave. The food was out of this world. The tartare was some of the best I have ever had. The meatballs were hands down the best I have ever had. The sauce was thick and rich and so flavorful. I'm usually not a fan of ground meat texture but these meatballs were so tender. While in Chicago, an Italian dinner is a must so we planned to snag a reservation at Ciccio Mio when they are released 21 days out. Unfortunately, those reservations are gone in a matter of minutes apparently, as we had no luck. So we decided to arrive at 4pm when they opened to perhaps sit at the bar. Once we arrived there, unfortunately bar seating is not an option, however there were two small counter seats at the windows which aren't reserved. One of these was taken, so we accepted the other. I say all this to explain how busy this small restaurant is so you can plan accordingly. The decor inside is beautiful with rich dark wood which sets an elegant ambience for dinner. The wait staff were super friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. We started the evening with a couple of espresso martinis which were very good. Afterwards, we ordered the meatballs as our starter. The came in a pot with a generous amount of wonderful sauce and were scrumptious. For our entrees, we chose the Rigatoni Vodka and the Lasagna Bolognese Rotolo. Both were very delicious as expected. For dessert, we had the extremely popular Toasted Almond Gelato which was amazing. Went here for a little solo date night and it might be one of the cutest spots I've ever eaten at. Highly recommend making a reservation, even if it's just for one. The dining room only has like 11 tables, and while there's a lounge for walk-ins, it fills up fast. The cocktail list looked amazing (they have absinthe, which is fun) but I ended up going with wine and it was perfect. I started with the burrata and yes, I ate the whole thing myself. No regrets. It came with fresh bread that was so good I would've happily just eaten that all night. But then came the truffle pasta and oh my god. It was rich and creamy and perfectly truffly. My husband treated me to a beautiful and memorable dinner at Ciccio Mio for my birthday. The food, service and ambiance are top notch. We thoroughly enjoyed everything ordered. Pricing is moderately expensive with service and quality making up for it. We were placed in a plush velvet booth. The lighting is moody and dark. With its popularity and intimate seating, it's no surprise this place gets booked quickly. You will need to plan weeks ahead in order to get your desired timeslot. As with all Hogsalt restaurants, my only pet peeve is the reservation surcharge that does not get applied towards your bill. Cocktails and Wine were very good. Our favorite dishes were the Meatballs, crispy Vesuvio Potatoes, Lasagna Bolognese Rotolo, Truffle Mozzarella Sticks, Tagiatelle Carbonara, Pavlova and Almond Gelato. The house bread was so soft on the inside and paired well with the oil and pickled veggies. The vesuvio potatoes were so crispy on outside and soft inside, so good. Another excellent Hogsalt experience. Cocktails were fantastic and the service was also excellent. It's such a small space so get those reservations early! I loved that we were able to get a half size (2 pieces instead of 3) for the focaccia which left us a little more room to try other things. It was really good and I loved that the olives were baked into the inside of the bread, not just on top. We had trouble selecting just two pasta dishes but went either the ricotta gnocchi and lasagna bolognese rotolo. Both were incredible. I think the gnocchi was just a litttttle tastier, but the lasagna was definitely heartier. Our first dinner in Chicago, and it was delicious Italian food with the coolest ambiance! I've heard that this restaurant is rumored to be one of the hardest restaurants to get a reservation. We luckily got a reservation for 9pm which was late, but it worked out. Keep in mind there is a $5/person fee that is charged upon setting up a reservation that unfortunately is not a deposit nor does it go towards your bill. However, we definitely would not have been able to get in if it weren't for the reservation. When we arrived, we saw multiple parties come in to put their name on the waitlist, and the host told them that though their names were on the list, they should have backup dinner plans. The list had 9 parties waiting at this time when they close at 10:30pm! When we finally got sat, the decor was absolutely stunning. The tables were a bit close to each other, but the space overall was not big at all. The setting was definitely intimate with dimmed lighting. We started with the truffle mozzarella sticks, and these have got to be one of the best if not the best mozzarella stick I've ever had! They were a good portion and fried to perfection. The scent and taste of truffle were not overwhelming but just left you wanting more. I ordered the black truffle mafaldine. The pasta was al dente, and though the dish was very light and delicious, I did find myself craving for more truffle flavor. We also ordered the orecchiette which is their signature, and it was spicy and savory. The tagliatelle carbonara was absolutely delightful, but I did find this dish to be on the heavier end. The ricotta gnocchi were so fluffy, filled with delicious cheese, and coated in this rich brown butter sauce. For dessert, we opted for the toasted almond cookie gelato as well as the fior di latte gelato. Each came with a small biscuit to accompany the gelato. Both gelatos were incredibly fine and smooth. After securing a week-of reservation through the blessing of Resy alerts, my party was seated immediately at our reserved time at the charming curved corner of the banquette. There, I found a sweet handwritten card wishing me a happy birthday. Our server had excellent recommendations for all of the courses. We enjoyed the focaccia and house salad (the smaller size is plenty for two) to start. Then came the cavalcade of mains: the truffle mafaldine with giant truffle meatball is the thing of dreams, the chicken parmesan is perfectly crisp, and the decadent polenta and vesuvio potatoes as sides. We had an amazing dinner at Ciccio Mio during our trip to Chicago. It's in the Michelin guide, and it definitely lived up to it. We ordered the carbonara, the amatriciana, the mushroom carbonara, and some bread. Everything was delicious. The highlight of the meal was the ricotta gnocchi, hands down the best I've ever had. They were light, pillowy, and practically melted in my mouth with every bite. Recommendations: Meatball Focaccia Orecchiette Pugliese Gelato We made a reservation through Capital One Dining and were able to grab a 6 pm slot on a Sunday. The restaurant was already quite packed when we arrived, but luckily we were seated in a cozy corner toward the back. All the decorations in the restaurant are so pretty, including the paintings and furniture. There were multiple items we wanted to try, and our waitress, Jessica, was super helpful. She recommended the meatball and a half order of focaccia (so we did not get overwhelmed by bread). The meatball was soft, flavorful, with just the right amount of kick from parsley and peppers, paired with a dense tomato sauce, serve in a pot. The focaccia stood out to me as well. You could see the chopped garlic and other ingredients baked right into the loaf, served warm with creamy butter on the side. Our main dishes were served after the appetizers. We ordered the Orecchiette Pugliese and the branzino. The orecchiette was excellent, a perfect balance between the spicy pork sausage, sauce, pasta, and parmesan. The spicy kick from the sausage with the handmade pasta made the dish distinct. The branzino was grilled with a light touch of olive oil, then finished with a squeeze of lemon juice to highlight the natural flavor of the fish. We ended the night with olive oil cake and a small gelato, a simple yet satisfying way to close the meal. My fiancée and I were so satisfied with the arrangement for our date night. This has been hands down the best Italian I've ever had. We went on a Friday at 5:00 (around the time it opens for a walk in) with no reservation we were waitlist 11 and had to only wait 30 minutes. We tried bar gilt and next door and both had the same size of line. If going on a weekend, I recommend going right as it opens or having a reservation (hard to get). We were seated in the little waiting area which they asked when putting our name down if we felt comfortable with that. We had no issues and enjoyed the area. We offered the vodka pasta, lasagna and side of mushrooms. We ordered an app which were truffle mozz sticks and soooo good! Usually don't like the taste of truffle but the mozzarella chees was soooo good I did not mind it. Thursday night dinner while in Chicago. Dark lit restaurant, smaller, very intimate with a romantic type ambiance to it. We had reservations for 10:15, but came a little early checking in at 9:57. We were sat against the wall in a booth/chair split, and ordered some old fashioneds. Drink was fair- though had way too much ice in it. I know that sounds like a weird thing to bring up, but it made the drink hard to negotiate. We started with the burrata - which we thought would come with - well anything - but it was fine to just cut and eat. The table bread did make it easier - spreading the burrata on it. I ordered the chicken parmesan for my meal, as well as a side of traditional pasta with red sauce. The decor was great, and the lighting was perfect. We started with a round of drinks, the Caesar salad, and focaccia bread for the table. The focaccia was perfectly baked and warm. The only thing missing for me was a nice flake salt topping. I was torn about my entree selection. So many of the menu offerings sounded delicious, and the pictures online were enticing. Ultimately, I opted to trust the expert. After patiently walking me through the dishes I was drawn to, Katie recommended I go with the Pasta Alla Norma. I took her advice. Our food came out together and was served fresh. Mine was so good that I didn't try anyone else's but all were happy with their dishes. The Pasta Alla Norma was certainly something to write home about. It was served with a lovely, rich marinara-based sauce topped with cooked-down, smoky eggplant and tossed with rigatoni. It was even better than I expected. For dessert, we had Tiramisu, Pavilova, Toasted Almond Gelato and Vanilla Gelato. The vanilla gelato was complimentary for the birthday celebration and topped with a candle. Booked a reservation for two as soon as they dropped and was able to grab a 4pm spot on Thursday. The ambiance is top tier with the good music, lighting, and decor. The staff was great, everyone made us feel super welcomed and accommodated every request we had. Our server helped guide us on which bottle of wine we'd like, and we found our new favorite wine thanks to her help. We ordered the focaccia and meatballs as appetizers. Both were great, and the focaccia was the perfect thing to soak up all the sauce from the meatballs. For mains, we got the chicken Parmesan and spicy vodka rigatoni. WOW! Both were stand outs, but I will be dreaming about the spicy vodka. Seriously the best I've ever had. Ended the night with the almond gelato which was a delightful treat. We celebrated our anniversary here, and the staff combined with the amazing food made the experience unforgettable. I wish I lived in Chicago, I'd come every week! read more

Who offers an 11pm reservation? This was definitely different, I haven't ate this late in forever. The food was good, but I don't think the chicken parm shouldn't come with pasta, because it did not. We also shared the artichoke appetizer, and the fior de latte gelato. My carbonara was silky perfection and the artichoke was crisp with a delicious sauce. My favorite restaurant that i went to while in Chicago. Nice ambiance. Small quaint dimly lit with good music. Creative seating. The service was great on a Thursday night. The server had great answers to all the menu questions and had insightful answers despite the restaurant being packed and lots of demands on her time. The food was so good i forgot to take pictures but i started with the truffle mozzarella sticks. They were really good maybe the best thing i had. Followed that up with a Caesar salad prawns and lasagna. The lasagna was hardy but not too heavy, almost creamy if that makes sense. We booked a month in advance and were able to secure a 9:45 PM reservation on a Thursday night. I've never seen a restaurant ask for a deposit that doesn't go toward the meal just to reserve a table, but we really wanted to try this restaurant, so we went for it. It was so worth it. The ambiance was incredible and intimate, and there are only a handful of tables in the dining room. The service was great from the host to the servers to the server assistants. Everything was mouthwateringly delicious! The giant prawns were stand-out, we actually ordered them as an appetizer which worked really well. We then ordered the spicy vodka pasta, truffle mafaldine, and mushroom carbonara. Everything was so tasty, and it was such a great experience from beginning to end. This isn't your nonna's carbonara (it's better). Perfectly al dente house-made tagliatelle arrives cloaked in the creamiest, dreamiest sauce that somehow manages to be both classic and revolutionary. The base is pure Roman tradition: silky egg, sharp Pecorino, and crispy nuggets of guanciale that pop with porky intensity. Then the chefs flex their genius: a whisper of gorgonzola melts in for subtle funk, toasted hazelnuts rain down like crunchy gold, and a slow-confit egg yolk sits nestled on top, waiting to be broken and turned into liquid sunshine when you pierce it. One fork twirl and the yolk floods the plate, turning the whole dish into a decadent, golden masterpiece. Rich without being heavy, balanced, surprising, and completely addictive. The rest of the meal was flawless (gnocchi that bounced like pillows, veal saltimbocca that made me weak), but that carbonara is the kind of plate you close your eyes for and involuntarily moan over. The cozy, candle-lit room feels like a secret 1960s Roman trattoria dropped into River North, service is warm and Italian-grandma attentive, and the amaro cart that rolls up at the end is pure evil (in the best way). What. an. experience! First off, really appreciated that they were able to reschedule our reservation on such short notice. Our flight got into Chicago super late and we missed our Thursday reservation, but they were able to reschedule our anniversary dinner to Saturday night! As soon as we walked in, I knew it was going to be a great experience. There's a swanky waiting area, before we were led back to the small seating room through some curtains. We were seated at one of the two-seat tables in the middle, with big ole plush seats. For starters, we got the Burrata and Steak Tartare. Our server recommended pouring an aged balsamic over the burrata - YUM! It also came with a really fresh and robust olive oil. The steak tartare was also really nice, I usually have an Asian-flavor forward tartare but the anchovy mayo and fresh herbs were a nice twist. We decided to share the Chicken Alla Parmigiana, which I was least impressed by. The red sauce was quite bland, however I liked the bites with mozzarella on top and the chicken was cooked nice. For dessert, the staff was very nice and gave us a gelato on the house as we were celebrating our anniversary. Overall, it was such a lovely experience and felt like we were transported back to the 1920s with the cozy lighting, ambience and overall setting. read more
