As a Contractor with over 20 years of experience in the trades I'm well aware of how businesses should be run. I read the reviews here AFTER having my experience, and that is my fault. When I first arrived I noticed that, despite the place being huge, there were only two, clearly overworked staff members helping customers and no obvious management in sight. Once the paperwork was done, and as we were loading the Skid Steer, one of the staff said, "If it won't start, just open this up and jiggle this wire. It'll work then." That was a red flag I shouldn't have ignored. I rented a Skid Steer, auger, and a trencher. Once I got the vehicle and parts back to the work site (which was 1.5 hours away, mind you) I discovered that they'd rented me an auger and a trencher that wouldn't work with the Skid Steer due to a hydraulic leak on the quick connects! I had to send my eight-man team home and turn back around to drive (through traffic this time, which made the drive take even longer) the stupid Skid Steer and equipment back to the rental place. Once I arrived, the staff member I'd spoken to apologized for the screw-up, stating they didn't know that the quick connects were leaking and they got me another Skid Steer. After about an hour of unloading the leaking Skid Steer and reloading the new Skid Steer, I still had to wait another 20 minutes while they moved a bunch of pallets that were blocking part of the yard. I've been to many yards, and this was the worst organized I've ever seen. By the time I got out of there it was already 3 or 4pm and I still had a 1.5 hr drive to get back to the work site, so I couldn't do any work that day. The next day I got the Skid Steer all squared away with the auger and drilled two holes before one of the lines blew out and the thing wouldn't work anymore. At this point, I'm extremely upset, and have nothing to show for all my wasted time thanks to their crappy equipment. I wanted nothing more to do with them, so I loaded up the Skid Steer again and it drove back to the place. When I arrived I asked to speak with a manager because the Staff member I was talking to was trying to hand me a bill for $1200 for playing chauffeur to their hunk of junk for 2 days. The Manager (or possibly owner, who knows), Doug wasn't even there and I had to argue with him over the phone. During the course of our conversation he tells me the following facts about how he runs his business as though they're perfectly normal and acceptable: 1: He thinks he's charging a competitive rate per hour, despite the obvious age, wear and tear, and poor upkeep on his vehicles - He isn't, but we'll address this delusion in a moment. 2: He doesn't know which parts go to what vehicles -- That one floored me. How do you operate a business you don't actually know how to run? 3: He openly admitted that he doesn't test the vehicles and equipment. Ever. Especially before taking people's money to use them - This means he has no idea if what he's renting will actually function as it's supposed to. That's insane to me. At the end of our conversation, he tells me that he's not going to charge me for the auger, but that he's still charging me (at 450$ a day...$100 more than at least 3 other competitors in his area I called) for having the Skid Steer and trencher for two days. A trencher I couldn't use because I didn't have a functioning Skid Steer. He was charging me despite the fact that his crappy equipment made it impossible for me to use the trencher or auger for the first day because the vehicle was leaking, and in spite of the fact that his neglectful care for his vehicles prevented me from using the vehicle for the second day. What a freakin' scam. This man runs one of the worst, least prepared businesses I've ever had the displeasure to work with, and I sincerely warn you away from giving this man your money. You'd get the same use out of it by just burning it, and at least the fire would work as it's supposed to.

A short drive later, I was trying to find what I needed, and came up short, but only in quantity. An employee came by and offered help, and I told them what I needed. They were right to a different bin, and counted out the exact quantity that I needed. They then gave me the price for that item and one other similar item. When I mentioned that the app and website didn't help, they told me that some of the items wouldn't come UP on the website or in the app, but that I could call anytime to have someone check the stock for me. I wrote the info on the handy plastic bag and went to check out. The employee at the checkout counter was polite, friendly, and professional. They asked for my phone number to access my rewards account. When I walked out, I had exactly what I needed, and for a very reasonable price. This is now my go-to store for all but major hardware needs. I highly recommend Ace Hardware, and especially this location. It kind of felt like I was dealing with family.

An hour later (you get caught up in all the eclectic items they offer). During the hour I checked out cat toys, dog toys, cards (fabulous collection of off beat greeting cards), cat litter, yo yos, dominoes, keys (they cut keys), gardening tools, pocket knives and many other items. You can find a nice weird gift for someone here. And yes, I bought a timer for $6.99. Go there and be reminded of back-in-the-day Scrivener's.

The first time he called, my husband spoke to a guy who said they needed to see the key first to see if they could do it. Fair enough, but they could have looked the key up first on Google or something. My husband forgot to ask how much it would cost IF they could do it, so he called back. A woman took his call and was short with him, as if she didn't want to be bothered. She snapped, "Oh no - we can't do that!" My husband told her he just talked to a man who told him to bring it down. So then she said "Oh, okay. $2 or $3." When he arrived and handed them the key, she took one look at it and "No we can't do that!" She was very abrupt. We would have shopped a bit for other things, we got the clear impression that our business wasn't wanted. For anything. They were not busy at all. I can understand that they couldn't make the key, but a little more kindness and perhaps some initiative to find out exactly what kind of key we needed would have gone a long way. Since they make keys, and are no doubt familiar with modern fob type car keys, a little engagement of the gray matter would have saved everyone a big hassle.
