One of the best fish and chips we have eaten! Breaded outside and very different than your usual batter fish and chips. Crispy outside made with something like breadcrumbs. Has a fresh fishy smell as well. We ordered a regular fish and chips and then fish and salad. Non descript place that looks not even like a restaurant on the outside. We were recommended to try the white fish out here from talking to another couple who visited the area a few times. Glad we did! We sat outside for some sun on the picnic benches and ate slightly later around 3 PM. It's cash only but luckily we had some on us and just waited a bit for our order. For a tourist destination, reasonable pricing. Marketing could use a bit of work outside since it simply said that they were "amazing" on a sign. This was one of the only two restaurants that remained open on the late weekend. So we were forced to eat here. They offer your standard American breakfast / lunch items, with a few burger options and fish and chips. We ordered the fish and chips to go. While waiting for our order, I noticed that most customers dining in had a plate of burnt fish and soggy looking fries. Little to my surprise, when we opened our fish and chips, the fish was over done. The fish was fried without any batter, plus they used some sort of salt water fish. We were here two time as the first time I enjoyed my western sandwich. The second time we were going to have the same but for some reason the kitchen were not making it. The soup of the day was rice and chicken and it was pretty nasty. The western sandwich was good. The place looks a bit like a old fashioned diner from some black and white movie. When i visited this restaurant yesterday, there were flies in the restaurant, and the menu (being used as placemats) were dirty-looking and sticky. I wasn't feeling too hungry, so I ordered a hotdog ($4). Just a typical hotdog. I mean you go here to try their fish and chips, right? But we didn't feel like ordering fish and chips tonight, so my BF ordered the Roast Beef Dinner ($17.95). The dinner comes with side of mashed potatoes, your choice of soup or salad, and coffee or tea. The dinner, in my opinion, is expensive for what you get, and the meal is rather bland. Nothing too special. I just don't think the quality of the food matches what you pay for. Since I'm staying here in Tobermory for a few days, I'll probably try their breakfast next time. UPDATE: Now for their breakfast, as expected, prices are jacked up for a rather unremarkable meal. Kudos to the servers though, for breakfast they are more attentive and food was made fairly quickly. Service is pretty fast and it helps us, as we had to catch a boat ride in an hour. I'm happier today than when I had dinner here yesterday. read more

Considering Tobermory did not have many sit down food options this was not a bad spot. You can sit down in air conditioned comfort and get served breakfast lunch or dinner and have a great view of the dock. However, they only take cash so be prepared. We had brunch here and I ordered the Fish & Chips. I was disappointed with the fish, although the actual fish was fresh and tasted good was a fried piece of whitefish with very little batter and did not resemble your typical Fish & Chips at all. read more

Craigie's has location, location, location! We have been coming to Tobermory for a long time and always look forward to whitefish dinners at Craigie's because the fish is delicious, lightly breaded and fried, large portions served up steaming. We agree Craigie's gets 5 stars for the whitefish and has good service, we are disappointed with the sides, whether fries or mashed, the slaw, etc are below mediocre, 2 stars. We have never tried anything else. The arrogance of cash only is another negative in an area with plenty of other options. Craigie's really need to get competitive. read more

I have my worst restaurant experience in Canada, I went there with my whole family, order several things, chicken noodle soup was terrible just like hot water, no flavor, the chicken hamburger was small with just lettuce and tomato, hot dogs show over cook sausages, mashed potatos was probably made of dollar store ready to prepare box, no real potatoes, the liver was re heated. to make things worse prices are high for the poor quality they offer, you must pay cash and don't tell you until the end. We came here for breakfast and were pretty happy with it. The breakfast special is 2 eggs, bacon, ham or sausage, toast, home fries and coffee/tea for $6.50. It looks pretty dilapidated from the outside, but the inside is quite nice. It's all wooden walls and wooden tables. It's very cozy. It's definitely popular with the locals as well as tourists, as everyone who came in while we were having breakfast seemed to know each other. The service is good, and the breakfast was fine. Apparently their fish and chips is quite good (they have T shirts about it), but they don't serve that until after 11am. read more

One table was setup for 6. Waitresses were super friendly! Looking at the menu, it started off looking like a 3 star place. Order a Breakfast Special - $8.95 2 eggs, 2 slices of toast, 3 sausages or ham, how fries and coffee. Ordered my eggs sunny side up, but was delivered over easy and the yolk was 65% cooked through.. The reason for the 1 star review is the unexpected charge of $1.50 for a cup of water and the unexpected charge of $2 for sharing plates. We were NOT at all informed of the extra charges. Water from my experience was always free... Giving you sharing plates from my experience was free as well. If it isn't I feel the establishment has to let their customers know. This situation has left me feeling ripped off / scammed. Pretty ridiculous in my opinion. I would not recommend the place. It doesn't seem like it's an honest place of business. Food was nothing special. Ordered over easy eggs, but they came as sunny side up. Between 2 people we ordered a breakfast special for $10.95 consisting of 3 eggs, sausage, bacon, 2 slices of toast cut into 4 and coffee; and a tomato bacon sandwich for $5.50. I used to tell friends and family they absolutely could not go to Tobermory without making Craigie's a stop. You couldn't get a better more authentic Little Tub experience than that. Well, the time's certainly have changed! What was once a super cute pine dining room with cool old relics of the times and town of this outpost on The Bruce has been completely wiped clean. What stands in its place now is without a doubt the most miserable, soulless little room I have ever been in. The service and the food achieve the bare minimum required to ask for payment, and cash only, thankyouverymuch. I'd not be so put out by the fact if they had an ATM on-site, but alas they do not. You have to cross the parking lot and go into the busy grocery store. "Seat 'em, feed 'em and street 'em" seems to be the modus operandi these days. They will provide 4 walls, a roof and food in exchange for your money. The sense of money lust and desire to turn tables was palpable. After having a horrible experience at another restaurant this was a wonderful surprise. It was takeout only. We went and ordered there and brought it to our Motel. My hubby got pancakes and I got the eggs bacon home fries and toast. By the time we got back to our Motel you would excpext it to be cooled down but no, it was piping hot. What a yummy breakfast. Meh is a very accurate description to fit the food that we experienced here. Fish and chips are the go to dish in this area - and if you're looking for fish and chips, they definitely don't do it the typical style. The fish is extremely lightly fried - which in fairness, they do tell you this ahead of time but it's very unsatisfying and is a little fishy. Their chips - of which we heard from several sources was "the best in town" are very underwhelming. They don't even measure up to close to the best. They're largely cut but not crispy or scrumptious. And for the price for the fish and chips, it's far more worth it to get the fish dinner for the food you receive and the price. read more

This place was just OK. I wanted to go because of the name, I'm a Craig. Came for breakfast after camping for 3 days, we were dirty and grubby. Waitress: she was pleasant and pretty quick. It was a busy morning, sat down at a dirty table, she wiped it with a dirty wet rag, kind of pushed the slop around. Food: Eggs and toast and potatoes, did not come out hot. They specialize in white fish with a light coating. Excellent but a bit more fishy taste than halibut or cod. I don't mind it but some may. Chips are fresh and crispy. Have been to Craigies many many times in the years that we have visted Tobermory to Scuba Dive. The food is always good, always plentiful and service always comes with a smile even when they have a packed house and line ups for tables. If you are looking for breakfast definietly go early or you will be waiting for a table but they also do take-out so you can easily order something and take a seat on one of the many benches and watch the activity of the morning comings and goings of this busy little town. Tobermory is a busy tourist mecca all summer and a practical ghost town over the other seasons so all meals at all restaurants are priced accordingly and you won't find a better price for the same portion size in other establishments. We've been to "Toby" enough times to say without a doubt that Craigies is our favorite place to eat!! read more
