They still offer a meat and cheese platter which was very good. The service here was great. I came to this cool little lounge/bar for a whiskey drink making class/event but it had been postponed; I decided to stay anyway. The bar used to be the Guthrie's part of Guthrie's Alley Cat so it sits behind the famous Alley Cat. The little bar is very comfortable with a choice of table seating or leather couches if you want that laid back atmosphere. There is plenty of old Bakersfield brick and open beamed ceilings; you can order a meat and cheese tray or a sandwich from the Alley, so they do offer food although somewhat limited. There is a full bar as well as draft beers but the best part is the personal attention from Neil the bar tinder. This bar is a great little place to hang out with friends or alone and occasionally they host events, so I would say the place is trendy; located on Eye Street between 18th and 19th Streets. There are several restaurants around so this is an ideal place to come before dinner or bring a date; the place will turn up your dating cool factor so I highly recommend and will be returning. read more

My wife and I had been wanting to try this place out for a while. So we went on a double date with some friends here, and our experience was AWFUL. We travel all the time, and this is definitely our WORST experience to date. We sat down and it took 15 minutes to order our drinks, 20 minutes after that to get them, 15 minutes after that to get our friends' drinks, since they arrived a little later. By now, it was nearly an hour and we're starving. Guests that arrived after us had already gotten food and seemed to be well taken care of. We waited another 20 minutes and finally just had to get up to get a waiter's attention to ask for our check. $47 for 4 drinks. (Which he took forever to bring, of course) This place wasn't even busy to be taking that long. When we arrived it was half empty! But they just continued to overlook us. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I'd even go out of my way to steer them away. Go ANYwhere else. What a waste of time, and we still had to leave to find somewhere else that would be happy to actually feed us. Luckily downtown has lots of other selections to choose from. We've stopped in a few times for a bite and drinks with friends. Good selection of drinks and well-mixed cocktails. Food is limited in selection, but good in quality. We've most enjoyed their ghost pepper panini so far. Overall a bit pricey for a Bakersfield joint for drinks, but food is reasonable and exceptionally generous in portion size. The meat and cheese platters can easily let 4 people walk away feeling full and ready to avoid dinner. Nice, relaxing atmosphere. Has a nice urban feel to it with a huge David Bowie Diamond dogs poster Framed on the wall. There are a few outside tables. Mostly sandwiches and salads. Generally, I absolutely adore this place. Today, was an exception. The bar was empty and dirty. As we (my boyfriend and I) sat, there was no attempt to clean the area where we sat, or around us. It took about five minutes before we were greeted. Then kept putting us off. Then when we were finally asked for our drink order, the bar tender stated, "oh wait, I have to get this other guys order, oh um well I'll just take yours." Proceeded to take MY order, and not my boyfriend who was sitting right next to me. He inputted in the register (took a couple minutes for him to do this), but didn't start making anything. A few more minutes went by, and a small group walked in and sat behind us. He continued to immediately greet them, with menus, and took their drink order. Meanwhile, the other bartender had already greeted and gotten drinks for people who arrived after us, who were not seated at the bar. Our bartender was slow and lethargic. About 15 minutes later, after it seemed he'd finally get our drinks, he walked to the side, grabbed his phone, and walked out. I'm all for having patience, but this was beyond reason. read more

First downfall was it taking 15 minutes before anyone greeted us or have us menus. It wasn't crowded or busy so not sure why that took so long. It just got worse from there, the rest of the table ordered their drinks and I ordered a Sprite (I am expecting and obviously not drinking alcohol) and the waiter rolls his eyes at me! After they finished their first round the guy still never came back to our table I walked up to the bar to ask for another round for the table and he said he would bring it out. She sent tons of pics so I could see exactly what kind of spread we'd have. She stayed in communication with me throughout the process and put my mind at ease. I finally had a chance to visit Crash last night. I didn't know what to expect when we decided to try the place out. It was dark out and the place looked to be closed from the outside. No lights or open signs or anything, but maybe that's to keep it low key. We went in and the place is tiny but beautiful. We had a group of 7, so we had a hard time fitting in one of the two non bar counter sections. Our server was prompt and polite. The beer prices were fair, but the cocktails were pricey. I think it was completely worth it. I love places that are a joy to be in and allow you to catch up with friends without shouting. Can't wait to revisit. read more
