An absolute nightmare. We ordered a couch and a dining table, which could only be delivered for a $280+ fee for white glove delivery. This is understandable as the items were quite bulky. We reserved the loading dock for our building, and put the representative handling my order in touch with our building manager via email. The person in charge of communications for my delivery not only did not send over the COI, she never even responded to any of my emails. It wasn't until 2 days before the day we were supposed to take delivery I noticed my email was getting an auto response that she is now on vacation for 2 weeks. She went on vacation without telling me or handing my order off to anybody else. I had to email and call the store and general customer service multiple times over the 2 days to try to get ahold of somebody who could help me. I finally was able to find a manager who took over the order and sent over the COI the morning of the delivery, ensuring we could actually receive the furniture. Will not ever shop here or any crate and barrel store again, this is the worst customer experience I've had in a very long time. read more

I called yesterday to see if they had a particular mirror in stock, Tula said they had a floor sample. I asked if I liked it would I be able to purchase that one, she said no but she was able to find it at the warehouse in Tracy. They normally don't allow customers to pick up the items from the warehouse, Tula went out of her way to email them and set it up before I even got to the store. A couple hours later I arrived at the store and asked for Tula, she was so nice, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. She was able to show me the mirror, I wanted to see the different colors (they had wood and metal ones) we couldn't find the exact colors but I decided to purchase the black metal ones. Oh and the best part it was only $319 instead of $399 what a deal. Tula processed my transaction and gave me my receipt and address to the warehouse. Buyer beware - the information on their rug samples and online descriptions are misleading regarding materials. I just bought a $2500+ rug under the belief it was 100% wool, as this was what the rug samples said. Upon receiving the rug, the backing says 80% wool 20% cotton. Absolutely the worst furniture store I have ever dealt with. About a month ago, I ordered a piece of furniture here for over $3,000. I was hesitant from the beginning, but the ONLY reason I placed the order was because the salesperson repeatedly assured me--over and over again--that the item was fully refundable. I confirmed it multiple times, and every single time I was told "Yes, you can return it anytime." That was a complete lie. When I later tried to return the item, the store suddenly changed their attitude. They kept delaying, making excuses, and refusing to take responsibility. When I spoke with the store manager, the experience was shocking. The manager was rude, impatient, dismissive, and showed clear signs of racial discrimination. Instead of helping, they kept repeating a so-called "no refund policy," which directly contradicts what their own salesperson promised. This is blatant consumer deception. To make it even worse, they told me that if I don't sign for the delivery by November 20th, they will cancel the delivery and still refuse to refund my money. So basically: no delivery, no refund, and no accountability. I have never seen a store act this arrogantly. This place has the most unprofessional, dishonest, and disrespectful customer service I've ever encountered. I strongly warn everyone: Do NOT shop here. Despite assurances, I never received the promised design ideas/ look books/3D rendering for the additional rooms. This lack of follow-through was disappointing moreover, the furniture didn't even fit the space. Approximately 1.5 months after the initial consultation, I took matters into my own hands. I re-measured my space and consulted with a trusted designer virtually. Her 3D rendering revealed that the furniture recommended and purchased from Crate & Barrel was disproportionately large for my space. This oversight led to unnecessary expenses and frustration. And I will plan to RETURN most pieces. While I appreciate the quality of Crate & Barrel's furniture and found their customer service generally satisfactory (TBD once I figure out if I can return items ordered), my experience with their design services was beyond subpar. Let's start with the issue I have with this store. The sales associate, while friendly to my face, was manipulative and deceptive charging me 100% of the couch upfront instead of Crate & Barrel's standard policy of 50% deposit, 50% upon receiving the couch. I was annoyed, but had the money and was set to get the couch in a few short months... or so I thought. Fast forward to when I should be hearing from Crate & Barrel to schedule a delivery. Nothing. Silence. I had to look online (they never linked my purchase to my account & their IT team has failed to fix this issue) to discover that they have already pushed the delivery out by over a month. I am expecting to actually receive the couch in Spring '26 when purchased in September '25 as it seems the norm is to now wait 4-6 months to receive your purchase. Now I'm stuck dealing with their feckless customer service who tells me different things every time I connect with them. The real, final test will be if I even get the correct couch delivered as that is a common problem too! This one experience has made me swear off Crate & Barrel entirely. This was my go-to store for housewares. I knew what quality I was getting when I made a purchase there. They get a negative rating due to their sales practices. First, I acknowledge that I went there on Christmas Eve. Believe it or not, I would have been ok with the answer, "It's out of stock due to holiday sales." But that wasn't the message. We stopped in to see if there might be any last minute gifts for Mom. And when we reached the kitchen appliance section, I remembered that we wanted a new slow cooker because ours is too small. We found one that we liked only to be told that it's only sold online and ships directly from the manufacturer. Sorry, but that answer SHOCKED me. Firstly, why would any retailer place a product, in a prime location, on a shelf that you can't actually buy. But, a company only sells products like that when they are looking to reduce their costs and risk. It, however, makes zero sense to me and actually annoys me. I don't often write reviews for stores but had to write about my experience at Crate & Barrel. I received a bunch of items from my wedding registry, mostly serveware and dinnerware. Every single box I received in the mail had at least two items that were broken despite each item being wrapped in bubble wrap and butcher paper. I went to the Palo Alto store and decided to return everything that came broken and return all the dinnerware after realizing I didn't love the style as much anymore. The woman who helped me at the cash register was apologetic and mentioned that they unfortunately receive complaints with broken items from mailed deliveries more often than they'd like. And usually it was the way that FedEx handles their packages despite having "fragile" marked all over the box. She took back all the items and I went on a shopping spree around the store. All the people restocking items were so kind and attentive. They helped bring items I wanted to the cash register area so I could continue to shop without carrying a bunch of items. They also all congratulated me after finding out that I was getting married. The woman at the cash register who rang me up was great conversation and wrapped up my items securely. She also offered to help me to my car since I had 4 boxes worth of items. I'm sorry I can't remember the store associates' names but really, all of them were so great! read more

The Crate and Barrel dishes and glasses are very nice and last a long time but you have to be careful when dealing with the Crate and Barrel. Check the quantities on your receipt! I should really do this everywhere but but the system at Crate and Barrel seems to have made it very easy to charge me for two bowls and a plate when I only purchased one bowl and a plate! Inspect every piece - especially when they're wrapped from the factory. The retail staff is part of their quality control, so if you get a wrapped dish "from the back" be sure to take it out and inspect it on site. I've had dishes with scratchy nodules, chips, and wobbles. They're usually very gracious about exchanges, but having to take three trips to the store to replace a few dishes is exhausting. So slow down, inspect your receipt, inspect your merchandise, count your merchandise, and have a great day! read more

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding an incident involving a sales associate named Nancy at Palo Alto store. The incident occurred on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 2:33 PM. I entered the store to purchase a single glass to replace one that had broken from my set. As I was heading home after work and my bag was heavy with a laptop, I left it in my car and only brought my phone and wallet into the store. During checkout, Nancy asked if I needed a bag. Since she didn't mention any cost and I was only buying one item, I asked if the bag was free. She responded that it was not and would need to be purchased. I then told her I would skip the bag. At that point, Nancy said she would give me a bag for free, to which I responded, "Thank you." However, she then began mocking me passive aggressively with lengthy and contemptuous words and a look of disdain. I reported this incident to corporate customer service the following day (May 17, 2025) and submitted a complaint, along with the receipt as proof of purchase. I am formally requesting a direct apology from Nancy for her unprofessional behavior--not a general apology from Crate & Barrel. As of today, May 19, 2025, I have not received a response or resolution. I will continue to follow up and provide updates until this matter is addressed appropriately. read more

Absolute joke of a store, avoid at any cost. First let me start saying the stuff they are selling is good. That's not an issue. But, it's not worth going through all the hassle of actually getting anything from there, as most of the people working there are utterly incompetent. - they said our bed would be delivered in a month. Three months later, we still haven't received it. - we had another item bundled together with the aforementioned bed, which was available, but also not delivered as they want to charge you twice for the delivery. Thus, that item was also "on hold" due to the one that we've been waiting for three months - The representatives working there most of time have zero clue about any of the items they're selling - They managed to charge my credit card just fine to get initial 50% payment, then continuously kept showing my remaining payment (once the titem became available) as "on hold" as they couldn't use that same card, for no obvious reason (they're literally the only place that can't use it for some reason) - They managed to add someone ELSE's credit card on my order (?!?!) - Online support is beyond useless read more

CB refused to authorize the drivers to take it away since it was custom - even though it was not what I ordered. After 30 minutes of me pushing CB to take the item and proving it was the wrong item, they finally took. I requested the item be reordered. That was 5 days ago - neither the sales person or the furniture manager have returned my calls or emails. I called again today and requested my money back. The store itself is perfectly nice with a large inventory on display. I have not had issues with their tableware section. My disappointment and surprise is in the sales person who sold me a rocker and also gave me (I assume since she stated she had worked there 2 years already) misleading information about purchasing a clearance item. She claimed that I would not be able to purchase a sectional on clearance/floor model without arranging shipping directly on my own within 3-4 days. I was disappointed (unable to commit to arranging shipping on my own so quickly. Luckily, I went home and found this same item online inventory. It turns out that they DO provide shipping services and, in fact, the price dropped further the following week, AND it was not a damaged floor model I ended up purchasing but unused from the warehouse. My only speculation was the sales person was both unreliable and self absorbed to only care about her own sale, not about helping a customer with correct or helpful information or to make a sale on behalf of the company as a whole. Not what I expect from an experienced sales person at a high end retail store. It will make any future purchasing at this store in person a "no go" for me and my family. read more

I ordered some items online for curbside pickup. When I got home, I realized that one item, the 552-223 Lindstrom White Standard Sham, was opened and the material was pilled. It also has a slight yellowish tinge to it. It seems like it had been used and repackaged or possibly a display item that was sold to me at full price. It was also the incorrect size. I ordered two 20 x 26 shams and the one I described above has slightly smaller dimensions but the wrapper was labeled 20 x 26... I called the store and they advised me to just reorder them online and return the defective one and ended the call with a "buh-bye now." There was no apology or compensation offered. I'm disappointed in the quality of this and in the customer care. I ended up making a trip to the Santana Row location the same day and they took care of it and were super amazing with the whole process. *ALSO*, a ton of the same items at this location were still marked at full price when they were on clearance at the Santana Row location and online. But this location only price checked if YOU, the customer, inquired of it. Shady. Disappointed because I expected better of such a great store. This place is great ! We went for registry for our wedding. It started at nine o'clock and as soon as we got situated and welcomed , the Palo Alto fire department showed up , 2 engine companies , a battalion chief, police officers. Guess there had been an incident in the kItchen at Nordstrom's. We got front to ow seats. Rubinstein was awesome and Denise with kitchen Aide , they both guided us when we had a question and were verY helpful. There were samples and a small tray of snacks. Denise made a drInk with Kitchen Aide blender, coffee, was all available to us. What a great event for us to experience. At the end of the 2 hours, we all received a bag full of goodies. How sweet wAs that. We will be getting or registry here for sure, they even gavee us a wedding magazine!!! read more

This store made my holiday!! I purchased a Delonghi Nespresso Machine for my husbands mom for Christmas. This is the only Nespresso with metal parts and is made in Switzerland. Bought it on Black Friday online and elected to pick it up from this location while my in-laws were still in town. Shipping/availability/pandemic craziness meant we were going to miss our window with them being here. I called the store fully expecting them not to be able to do anything and without missing a beat, "Sure! We can do that for you." And just like that, a very special Christmas present was redirected to my in-laws home. It arrived today, safe and sound before Christmas. With everything as crazy as it is right now in our world, plus the craziness of the holidays, this incredible woman saved the day. I wish I had written her name down because this meant everything to my husband and I. Bonus: I added what must be the smallest whisk in the world to this order for my toddler to help in the kitchen. I sheepishly made my way over to pick up this tiny item from the store. When I got there the only parking was curbside pick up. It is our go to store when we want anything from furniture to decor and dishes. They sure have great selections and sometimes floor sample and clearance are great as well. The people there are great in services as well. Helpful and attentive when they are not busy... However We will prefer to see the actual item and shop online on their site instead of buying the actual merchants from them. One they usually don't have anything in stock and they will need to order it for you and pick up at store later. We are not exactly live next door and sometimes items are not available for two weeks anyways. And the worst part is they often don't email or call you when the item is available for pick up and they don't pick up their phone or reply your email either. So why go through all the hassle when we can just order it online and get shipp to the door. read more

Update: Executive Customer Service stuck with us through the whole process and we now have a Petrie Sofa that looks exactly like it should. We really appreciate the assistance and I can say they went out of their way to make sure the product came together to meet our expectations. If you are on the fence, though, about the buttons on the seat cushions, they are still evil. Though the remake made them much tighter, they are still coming loose and do pinch because they move around. I've loved Crate and Barrel's lovely home decor for years (which is why there are two stars and not just one), but I just left the store at the Stanford Mall store and I was amazed and dismayed at the lack of protective screens at the cash registers. How is this possible? Is it an aesthetics thing, because I doubt it's about cost (although you never know)? Truly, safety and lives are more important than either of those considerations, and neither the very polite and professional sales representatives are protected in such a face to face transaction, nor is the customer. Crate and Barrel has not understood the severity of the COVID-19 and how extraordinarily contagious it is, or just don't care. We had a good experience when we went to purchase a couch. Of course, similar to every Crate & Barrel store, the decor is beautiful and lighting is on point. The sales staff was accommodating and helped us visualize what the piece would look like in our home. The couch was "instock at the local warehouse" and we were able to have it delivered within a week within a scheduled 2-hour time frame. The delivery people were fast and courteous and wore shoe covers to protect our floors. The inventory is a bit overpriced, but the pieces are quality. I have never experienced worse customer service. I went to Crate & Barrel with every intention of buying, but was treated so rudely by the staff... I ultimately left. Long story short, I needed 3 separate 48" curtain rods ASAP, and I was unable to wait for delivery since they needed to be put up that night. It took forever to get the attention of a staff member, and then 2 separate sales associates acted as if my request to leave the store with 3 small curtain rods was moronic. One even laughed and said "um... Crate & Barrel doesn't do that... I guess you could try Home Depot if it's such an "emergency" (with air quotes), but you won't find ANYONE who can help you in the mall." (Meaning Stanford Shopping Center) So I went to Pottery Barn (in Stanford Shopping Center)... and purchased 3 curtain rods in-store with ZERO issue. They even asked what the nature of my purchase was and offered to call both the Burlingame and Chestnut stores in the event they couldn't help me. THAT is how you do business. read more

We just bought a house two years ago and had furnished our house with RH, Crate and barrel, and CB2. Unfortunately, I had the most horrible customer service working with in-store representatives at CB2 San Francisco and RH Palo Alto. To my surprise, my experience with the Palo Alto Crate and Barrel store was completely different. They have the most kind and competent staff. There have been many problems in the last two years with furniture delivery due to supply chain issues in general and although there is a long wait and much damaged furniture upon delivery, it is that handling of such problems that really matters to me. We had a miscommunication with delivery from customer service over the phone relaying incorrect messages to the warehouse. However, Renee was made aware of the situation and instantly presented a viable solution. Not only was he quick and efficient and proactive in solving our issues, he took the time to follow up and call to see if everything was resolved. In addition, anytime there is a problem with customer service via text or phone, you can rely on the Palo Alto store representatives to competently correct the problem when it can't be done over the phone. With that said, the styles at Crate and Barrel are significantly better than those from any William Sonoma Companies such as West Elm and Pottery Barn who have atrocious customer service policies. For example, their Leanne Ford line is gorgeous and the pieces are very well made and high quality. In comparison to RH, the prices are significantly more reasonable and they have more unique and contemporary pieces. Overall, I highly recommend Crate and Barrel in Palo Alto for their customer service and competency. read more
