The container store did a great job in adding organization to 3 of our closets, and 2 restrooms with Preston. We are also getting our Garage organized with their Elfa collection. I'll add more pictures. Truly, I'm so happy with the end result. It took 4 days of construction and one day for delivery of items. They did forget to order the shelves for the Elfa portion of our order so that is why the garage is not done yet. I also ordered and paid for jewelry storage that came in the wrong size so that is something that was delayed. We original had some work for our laundry room but they would have had to move our washer and dryer and that would have been too troublesome. Overall, I liked the result. Best container store in the area. I wanted to organize my under the sink space and called the Santana Row store which did not have what i was looking for. Called this store and a very worker was able to check stock and put aside what i needed! The line was pretty long when i arrived but it moved fast. Huh? I walked in yesterday and was SHOCKED. Lights dim, boxes literally everywhere. Piles. Like a crazed hoarder. I was needing gift wrap and it was moved to a different section of the store. I think there was one employee working as well. At checkout, I asked if they were closing the store as it looked like a liquidation event. He was friendly and matter of fact stating their manager quit and there is no management. I would think HQ would send someone out to help the poor Palo Alto store. The Container Store needs to stop selling, "Richard's Moth Repellent herbal sachets." It does just the opposite. Yesterday I looked in my closet in absolute HORROR to see a "live moths farm "on the sachet and a giant hole on my new cashmere-sweater, behind the sachet, where they are feeding. Small white winged moths crawling all over. It happened to another sweater and there's holes in all my wool clothes as they migrated to other sweaters in my closet. I'm complaining to this manufacturer asap. I'm writing to warn others, don't use this product!!!! I found other reviewers on Amazon who had the same horrible experience with it !! read more

This review is more about the business than the store. Anything you buy here you can also buy at Marshalls, Ross, Amazon, or anywhere. The problem with The Container Store is that most stackable/storage materials are over prices for how cheap the quality is. Plastic stackable bins are flimsy & seems as if they would break if you drop them a time or two. Nothing here was on sale. Many overpriced items making it not worth shopping here (guess that's how times are during covid). I was so excited to come here thinking I'd find great containers for under the bathroom sink or closet, but I left without purchasing anything because items seemed too expensive here to not get long term use out of it. This is one of those places where you walk in with nothing in particular in mind and walk out with more purchases than you expected, along with hopes and dreams of how you're going to more efficiently organize your closet/cabinet/refrigerator/pantry. The store is nicely laid out and quite large. Plan on spending some time wandering around. The items add up quickly so you have to be pretty careful otherwise you'll end up buying a lot more than you intended. But now I have a cookie jar, a little shelf for our media console, and some baskets for organizing our pantry, all of which I'm quite happy with. read more

I love this store! I needed to get my car organized because I would put random things just about anywhere. Throw stuff on the passenger seat, sometimes on the back seat, or in the trunk. I finally found a container that I like (brought my measurement tape) but I'm still figuring out where it's going to go. Probably the trunk. I really need another of these containers but with a lid for my car - I don't need stuff falling out if I brake suddenly. Unfortunately, I couldn't find such a cute container with a lid. I usually hit the location at Santana Row when looking for my container needs, but we were in the area today, and wanted to see what another Container Store might be like! It's pretty much the same, but everything is contained within one floor and is a little harder to find. However, it's worth the search as you might find something else you're interested in. Employees wander around the store rapidly not to encounter the people seeking help. Finally the only person you can ask a question is the cashier who can not move from his work place to help you. We had an issue where we forgot some items we purchased at the checkout. We returned weeks later hoping to replace them. Even though we were unable to resolve the issue, the helpfulness of Zae (Isiah?) and the time he took to find every path possible to try and fix this made this frustrating experience still very positive. This is one of my "guilty pleasure" stores in or around the Stanford Shopping Center. Why? It's just fun to walk through this store and find things that you either need or "didn't know" that you need. Whether you're a minimalist at heart or simply someone who likes a neat and tidy house, then this store will transport you into storage paradise. One of the great things about this store is that the employees are always so helpful. Not only are there plenty of employees around the store, but they sometimes approach with that "can I help you find something" attitude. While parking at the Stanford Shopping Center can be frustratingly difficult, the lot at The Container Store (along Arboretum and Quarry) is always plentiful when it comes to spaces. In addition, it helps that the store is close to everything else around the shopping center. The store is connected (by a wall) with Crate & Barrel and next door to Nordstrom. One of the advantages of buying inside of the store is that it allows you to actually SEE the things that you want to buy. read more

I moved in July and one of the problems I struggled with at my new apartment was that I didn't have as much closet and storage space ass I used to. Other than that I absolutely LOVE my apartment!! My bathroom doesn't have any cupboards so the items I'd usually store in the sink cabinet, I had on the floor or on the toilet. AND my toilet and sink are way too close to each other that I can't even put one of those racks above the toilet. Every time I place an online order to the Palo Alto store, it gets delayed or I don't get an email that it's ready. It's happened twice to me in the past month. They say my order will be ready on a certain day and then nothing. Radio silence. The San Jose store seems to better. Uggh! I've been trying to organize my closet, and found some drawers here that I wanted. So far it's been a ridiculously unpleasant experience: 12/29/2022: I went to the store, and picked up a few drawers to try at home. I liked them, and decided to get more. 12/30/2022: I went back to the store, because their website said they had 24 of them in stock. However, they only had 8. The person at the register said they were probably still in the truck. In short, don't trust the stock numbers that you see on their website. 12/30/2022: Since the store didn't have enough I decided to make a web order. The website said they would arrive by 1/1/2023. 1/1/2023: The order never arrived. I went back to the website, and pressed the Tracking button. The button didn't work. There is no tracking information. 1/4/2023: I got an e-mail that said the drawers arrived at the store, and that I should come pick them up. It said if I didn't pick them up by the next day, they would be returned to stock. That's a shame, because they were supposed to be delivered to my home several days ago. I called the store to check if they were open. The recording indicated that they were. I drove for 20 minutes to the store, and they were closed at 4:00 PM due to weather. I sure wish they had mentioned that on the phone recording. I drove 20 minutes back home, and sent a message to customer support. I again asked them to deliver the drawers to my home. 1/5/2023: I got a text from the delivery company, which was a separate company from The Container Store. They said they could deliver the drawers on 1/7/2023. Instead, I requested that they leave the drawers at the store, and I would pick them up myself. They made of note of that. I also called the store, and asked them to hold the drawers. They agreed. Then I drove to the store to pick up the drawers. They had the order, but only 6 of the 15 drawers that I ordered. A person at the store said the remaining drawers will arrive on 1/9/2023. I drove home, and got a message from customer service. They said the drawers would arrive on 1/6/2023. Which date was correct? I had no idea. The tracking button on the website continued to do nothing. 1/6/2023: Nothing was delivered. 1/9/2023: Nothing was delivered. 1/10/2023: I contacted customer support, and let them know that I still don't have my drawers, and that I'm ready to cancel my order. I also noticed that the local store shows 24 of the drawers in stock. I don't believe it though. The last time that happened their stock numbers were totally wrong. In short, I visited the store 4 times, contacted customer support 2 times, called the store 3 times, and talked to the delivery company twice. After all that, I still don't have my drawers that I paid for. read more

I love the Container Store, and the staff is doing a good job sanitizing and keeping safe, but I really wish they were more staffed. There is constantly a huge line, and always a lack of carts. I guess with quarantining, everyone is organizing their home! Curbside pickup is also nonexistant - you will be waiting 25+ minutes in your car if you rely on the workers to bring your items out to you. You are much better off parking and going inside to retrieve your order. Online orders are also extremely backed up as well - I've had orders delayed up to 5 weeks, but that's not the store's fault. Other than these staffing difficulties, I always find what I need there. They are also ideally located in the Stanford Shopping Center. read more

I was looking for a specific laundry basket online and found that my neighborhood container store had it in stock. I quickly called the store to ask if they could reserve it for me at the registers because there was only 2 left. The employee on the phone was happy to help. I arrived soon after and found my saved item. I even got to use a new customer coupon to save on it! Such an easy, pleasant experience. I went her to purchase shoe containers, but at the time to me they were overpriced at $8-$10 each for one container. They only had two employees checking out on the weekend. Had to wait 15 minutes in a long line just to check out. Decently priced, but some items are probably a little more pricey. Ikea has more of a selection and is cheaper. read more

This review is pertaining to curbside pickup and customer service. Please be weary of doing online pickup from this store as it is not reliable. A few months ago, in the midst of moving apartments in the middle of a pandemic, I placed a bulk order of underbed storage bins. Despite receiving an email confirmation, the store only had partial order ready for pickup. It happened again a second and third time. It took me 3 trips to finally get everything I already ordered and paid for. Mind you, I was driving an hour out because I had moved to a different location already by the time I made my third trip. This made my move more stressful than it already was. I called the store at least 3 times to see if they can do anything to compensate for the inconvenience. I spoke to the manager a couple times and several associates, who all agreed to issue a partial refund. This never happened. I am tired of spending more time and energy calling them to resolve this issue. I never gave a bad review on yelp. In fact, all my other reviews have been 5 stars to reward good customer service. As someone who has worked in customer service and hospitality industry, I understand mistakes can happen as it did here with the online purchase. But they had a chance to fix this and make things right several times after I called them, and they didn't. That's where the customer service failed. read more

I recently went into this location to make an appointment or see if someone could help me pick out a closet system. And I right off the bat I said, "it has to be a self install system as our rental home is located far away (central coast), but I needed help with the layout and ordering". Pretty clear I think? The woman there focused the conversation on the closet systems that required hiring an install team telling me I would need to pay for their travel costs and hotel and on and on and on about how expensive and the whole time I'm trying to interrupt her to just simply ask... "do you only consult on those closet systems?" But she seemed so determined to talk me out of making an appointment that feeling discouraged I just said... For those who have read my reviews, I rarely give two-star ratings, but today the only reason that I am not giving a single star is that I generally like the Container Store. But not today and not this one. This morning I came in looking for some very specific items. I found most of what I needed and then out of the side of my eye, I saw something really cool that a customer had left in the wrong location. I knew there had to be more colors, but for the life of me, I could not locate the item's original location. With my arms full of my other items I took the item to the front and ask one of the staff if they knew where the item lived in the store. With a little dismissiveness and a wave, they pointed to and said, "The office area . . ." I said that I tried to look, but could not see them there, but I would try again. Well, after trying to look again, I still could not find them, so I asked another person (who I think was new). They also did not know, so walked me to the front upon which, both of the staff said, "The office area." I said, I tried to find them and would love some help, but they both rushed off to the cash registers. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I tried to call the Palo Alto store twice on Saturday. After pressing the number 3 for a live human being, the phone proceeded to ring MANY times until it flipped to "Good-bye", and clicked off. I did that twice. Next, I called corporate customer service and was unable to even leave a message. The on line digital assistant was USELESS. The products they offer are good, but they are not the only game in town. There are other retail stores on the peninsula as well as on line sites to purchase what I am looking for. So much for spending money in our own community! read more

I cannot heap on enough praise for this store and their customer service. It is really challenging to shop with a whining trio of boys, and this store time and again has gone out of their way to make my life and my wife's life better. In particular, I stopped in this afternoon to pick up a dozen or so last things to finish a huge Elfa installation I've been doing in my garage. The woman working in the closet/Elfa section went way out of her way to help me find all the little pieces I wanted and got me on my way expediently before my 1yr old could really melt down (thanks very much, Jessica!). She had an overdue appointment client show up midway through helping me and did a great, professional job attending to both me and the people who showed up a bit late for their appointment. By contrast, so many stores will roll their eyes or groan if you roll in with a strollerfull of little people. Similar to Jessica in closets, the lady in checkout was super helpful and patient in helping me return a few extra pieces from prior online orders and apply the store credit to my purchase today. Yes, that's her job but she did it cheerfully and expediently so I wouldn't feel bad holding up the line while my boys whined at everyone they could see. Huge fan! I love the lady (I think her name is Rebecca) who helped me with my design closet. She was knowledgeable and gave me some great recommendations when I felt stumped. It was a completely fun and relaxing experience working with her to design my closet and schedule my installation appointment. Due to jury duty, my availability changed. I call this location to ask to pick up my Elfa closet 1 day earlier. Chad helped coordinate the minor schedule change. I specifically told him that I was just requesting to pick up my Elfa closet items one day earlier than previously scheduled. Today, I'm sitting at home waiting for the installer. The closet installer was 1 hour late. I called the store and lo and behold, Chad came on to help. I told him that I'm waiting for my closet installation but the person was running late perhaps? He said that the installation is happening the following day. I told him my confirmation email indicated today. He had no apologies, he didn't attempt to check his system notes, NOTHING. Said it wasn't his fault, that "it is what it is" cavalier attitude which is NOT customer service that I expect from a store like this. I even told him that I had specify this date because the kids would be out of the house and it would allow for a less stressful installation experience because I would be able to interact and communicate with the installer (without screaming kids). I'm a pretty reasonable person. Mistakes happen- no problem. Own up to it! So here's what happens next. The installation team (a third party company not directly related to Container Store) finally returned my call and they looked through their system notes and found out that "someone" updated my installation date, that I had the right date but someone had changed my installation date to another date. Hmm.. I suspect it was Chad since he was the one who coordinated the ONE change I had related to picking-up my Elfa closet. The 3rd party team was super helpful in researching what happened and even offered to comp me with a discount for my next visit for the inconvenience that it had caused (I didn't ask - they offered). THAT is customer service. I will likely go back to the Container Store, but hope I never have to work with Mr. C again until he improves his customer service. read more
