Rough visit to Crate Restaurant & Wine Bar. The experience here started well enough, seated quickly and the waiter was friendly. First mistake we made was ordering cocktails instead of wine. Our bad, wine bar is in the establishment's name. Ordered the New Fashioned, it was SO sweet even after adding ice from my water. The Manhattan my husband ordered was ok. Did not have any other beverages because we were never asked how the first round was for us nor if we wanted another drink. It was as if they knew the cocktails were crap and we would not want to partake in another. Second mistake was ordering food. Their bad, restaurant is actually in their name. Took quite a while to get deviled egg appetizer, they were not warm so they could not have been made to order. Flavor for these were good. The entrees came about an hour after we ordered. Our waiter apologized for the kitchen's delay and then someone from the kitchen came to tell us it would be out soon which was 20 mins before our plates actually arrived. As we continued to wait, the couple next to us who arrived sometime before us got their food. They sat there waiting for silverware for a while and made a comment to this effect when they overheard our annoyance that our food had not arrived. I saw silverware on an empty table in route to the restroom and brought it back to the grateful couple. We both got the salmon, we ordered this partly because they were out of beef and the waiter's recommendation. The food was good but not enough to compensate for the wait. We planned to take a meal back to the hotel for our daughter who did not feel up to going out. Did not have the patience to wait for another entree, the Mason Jar across the street had a chicken tender basket ready in 5 mins. and it was good. After an exhausting day of travel for a business trip, I arrived to my hotel around 9 pm and didn't want to eat fast food. I searched for a place to have a plate and possibly maybe even a drink. At that point I jumped on my phone and did a quick search. One of the first places to pop up was Crate Restaurant & Wine Bar and the menu looked perfect. There wasn't one thing on it that I wouldn't want to try, plus.. they didn't close until 11pm. I drove over, parked my car, and was immediately mesmerized. What an adorable little town! Walked into the restaurant (which was full of music and laughter). It was a Tuesday. So, they had karaoke (go on a Tuesday) I was greeted immediately. I ordered lobster sliders and the first glass of wine I saw on the menu. Everything was perfect. The sliders were excellent and exactly what I needed. Perfect portion sizes and had the best flavor. I ended up staying until they closed and meeting the most incredible people. Everyone was so friendly. You can tell their staff puts their heart into everything they do. Not only that but everything was so reasonably priced. This restaurant is such a gem and has the most beautiful souls within it. If you have the chance, check them out. You won't regret it. The menu was out of date but t he server didn't know it. The food was okay but nothing worth mentioning. While they call themselves a wine bar, the wine list was pathetic. For example they list Caymus for $187 but no mention of varietal nor year. I sincerely doubt the server had a clue. My first impression was that it was a pub or dance club. Made a reservation with this restaurant in November for a group of 8 for our annual Christmas gathering. Having confirmation in hand, we were told that "we obviously did not have a reservation". Upon the manager seeing our confirmation he then stated that they had a huge party for today. When he saw our reservation date of November he then said that someone had made a mistake. He still did not apologize until he had said several times we didn't have a reservation. Don't go to this restaurant. If the way cannot handle simple reservations, what else are they doing wrong! We were walking on Trade St. headed to a Mexican restaurant that had great reviews & passed this gem on the way there. We stopped in, checked out the menu & decided to stay. It was fantastic! I had honey glazed salmon with mango salsa on top & my husband had shrimp & grits. Both were delicious! Hands down the best place I've been in Greer, SC. My girlfriend and I are originally from Maryland and are down here for a wedding. Saw this place on Yelp, gave it a shot and it was so worth it. Guys.... i eat out a lot but never post reviews. This however absolutely warrants recognition! My fiancé and I stopped in for dinner tonight for our first night out in the Greer area. We were absolutely blown away! We ordered an incredible bottle of wine which was half off for happy hour, an impressive charcuterie board, Cajun pasta, shrimp and grits, another bottle of wine to go, and a chocolate cheesecake to go. I order shrimp and grits almost every place we go and I will rank these in the top 3 of my life! The Cajun pasta had the perfect amount of creaminess and kick. The staff was so helpful and personable. They gave us an enormous "sample" of a strawberry cheesecake, and different hearty samples of wine. We were so beyond impressed by the entire experience. By this time it was about 6, when they finally took our dinner order, which again they didnt write down. At 6:45, we were ask what was up with our meals, as we saw ithers that had come after us eating, later we found that they were eating part of our dinner. Then we saw someone, who we laterearned was the cook, come in with bags of rolls and things. They then serve 1 person a salad, 1 person shrimp and grits (cold) and one persons side, brussel sprouts. NO UTENSILS..we had to ask for those and wait while another waitress went to roll up utensils to bring us. When we complained about where our food was, they explained that one of our meals and it confused them. It was chaos for a bit trying to get our meals. It was 7:30 until we finally got our meals. The other waitress (not ours) was apologizing, she was the only person there that seemed to know what was going on. The finallly manager came over, gave a half hearted apology, and said he'd comp our drinks. Then when we got the bills, some drinks were still charged. Agsin, we pointed it out, and they took it off. This was NOT a good experience, we will not be back. For the time we spent trying to eat, a good staffed restaurant could have fed 3 parties in that time. We visited Crate during the Arts and Eats Festival this past Saturday for a glass of wine around 4pm. We requested pino grigio. They had 1 bottle with 1 glass left. We then asked for a Rose' on the wine menu "out", the next Rose', "out" They were "out" of all rose's so we ended up with the last glass of Pino Grigio and 2 glasses of Savingnon Blanc. It was disappointing considering it IS a WINE bar (with no pino grigio or rose) They might want to consider restocking? or change the menu to what they have rather than what they don't have. read more

The egg rolls and shrimp and grits have great flavor. Be aware that some of their entrees are basically small plates/tapas. It would be a great place if you went there expecting that or they had a tasting flight of wine or something like most wine bars have. The "crab cakes" entree is literally one small crab cake, so maybe order 2 entrees or pick something else. Also, the Cajun pasta has crawfish, but they are literally 3 still in the shell crawfish plopped on top of pasta. If you're still hungry, because you're not a cave man and didn't order 2 entrees, also be aware that they may be out of the one desert option they have earlyish on a Saturday night lol read more

We moved to South Carolina today, partially because of how much we've enjoyed the restaurants in the downtowns nearby with my husband having just finished a military contract. Unfortunately, we decided to try something new and regret it tremendously. The Lobster mac is nothing better than Velveeta, the cajun pasta is just liquid sauce with paprika. The table smells of nothing but paprika because of the heavy garnish. They failed to tell us about happy hour until 10 minutes before it was over after waiting for the appetizer for a little while. Someone came from the back of the house with their airpods still in but he seems confused as to why he can't hear what we're saying. Plus the music is to loud. Don't worry the disappointment continues with the wine because the menu doesn't line up with what they have and the server wasn't very educated on the list which isn't very long considering they call it a wine bar. Great addition to the drinking and dining scene in Greer. We went last night during Dine on Trade. They were very busy and everyone was so gracious. And the food and drinks were excellent. My wife had Chardonnay (nice pour) and I had a New Fashioned as I like it in a rocks glass. For dinner my wife had the chicken and waffle skewers. Chicken was crispy and tasty and the waffles were light and fluffy and yummy. She loved the touch of bourbon in the maple syrup. I had the shrimp and grits. Fabulous! Blue grits were so creamy and smooth. Sauce was delicious. Rich but not too heavy. Not too salty. Just great. This place is definitely worth a visit. read more

We planned a rare night out and so glad we chose Crate Restaurant and Wine Bar. Jason came to greet us at the door and immediately made us feel welcome and at home. Social distancing was observed and the place was clean and the exposed brick walls and original flooring gave much charm. I'm not sure I have ever had a better crab cake. I am staying in Greer for the weekend and took a walk through the beautiful downtown and landed at Crate Restaurant and Wine Bar. Amazing. Excellently prepared beef rib with sweet potatoes and greens. Balance of flavors was on point from the orange hints in the greens and the smokey full flavor of the barbecue.
