This review isn't about the food. I thought the food was excellent. The crab mashed potatoes were great. Decent crab cakes. Excellent lamb. Service was very good. No qualms there. No, my primary hang up was the second floor seating situation where I got to stare at a pile of Sheetrock stacked above the entrance alcove for duration of the meal. I didn't get the impression that the place was under some kind of renovation. What it looked like was that a project was started to clean up the alcove & then abandoned and/or forgotten about. And it was combined with an odor of musty air ducts which hung directly next to the seating area. It just came off as a statement that implied they know their food is good so who cares about any of the other bits of restaurant decor or presentation? Enjoy your view of the Sheetrock pile, unfinished alcove & dirty duct odor. Hopefully they'll correct that. Then I'll recommend it. read more

We returned here to celebrate our anniversary. The Cazbah had been a favorite for years, but we'd moved to the 'burbs. Hub made a reservation, but when we arrived the server in charge seemed as if this took her by surprise. She sat us at the end of the banquet nearest to the bar, which was fine other than the seat was collapsing in the middle, so we just sat in the chairs instead. The issue turned out to be that the bartender was our server, which wasn't a problem when we first arrived, but then he was eventually overwhelmed. We did receive our drinks for which he graciously provided samples first, and after a wait finally received our hummus, and then the crab cakes and short ribs (we had the sense to order ahead), which were all delicious. Hub did need to approach the bar himself for more wine. The bartender and all the servers were moving at full speed to keep up, so we could only assume they were short handed that night. Anyway, we cut our night there short, and walked down the street for dessert. We weren't mad, just disappointed. read more

All around, this is a great place to get some tapas before or after a night on the town in GVL. Everything we tried was great, and we went through around six different plates between three people before we were full (but not stuffed). The shrimp and grits was the highlight, though. They weren't the least bit spicy and had plenty of flavor. Had we more room, we probably would've ordered a second round. The banana cocktail was also good, though I was a bit disappointed by it not tasting as strongly of banana as it smelled. Hannah was a great server with good recommendations and helped us accommodate one of our party arriving late. Be aware that a party of three seated at a smaller table will be a bit of a tight squeeze if all the dishes come out at once and that at least the downstairs area is a bit loud. read more

The Cazbah was a short walk from our hotel; we chose it based on the convenience and the reviews. We looked up the menu, and since they had meatballs (my wife's favorite) that clinched the deal. The restaurant space is small, although there is a loft area, and a private room, curiously located in the front of the restaurant. We were greeted cordially by a guy who I later saw vigorously mixing drinks. They seemed to have one guy who bright drinks and took your order, and an other young guy who brought out the food. I mentioned that he had a good job bring out all this delicious food, and delicious it was! I could find no fault in the lobster dogs--think crab or cream cheese Rangoon, but a different shape and slightly better. It was served with a seaweed salad and cold noodles. That's a nice tapas; the sides were a good complement to the rich and creamy dogs. My wife was content with her mozzarella stuffed meatballs; they were mild and served with a similar tomato sauce. She inquired about the Baby Brussel sprouts, but when our server said they had a "kick", she declined (I think that's when she decided to have desert). I ordered the fusion--diced sashimi tuna atop a seasoned guacamole mash on a crunchy baguette. Plenty of food here--portions are just right! I ordered a glass of Riesling--(red newt), and it was a bit too sweet for my taste. Desert decision: my wife said tiramisu, but I gently urged her to try the purple potato cheese cake! Yum, so delicious. So, the Cazbah earns five stars for food (creativity, taste and portions), service, and price... Based on the recent reviews, we decided to try The Cazbah out. Unfortunately it was not up to the hype. The lobster cigars could've have lobster or imitation crab or neither in them. They were mostly cream cheese and sauce. Very reminiscent of a crab Rangoon at a Chinese restaurant. It was ok, but not what I was expecting for lobster. The Beef Wellington is steak tips, wrapped in a type of biscuit dough with a weak brown gravy and instant mashed potatoes. The chicken empanadas lacked flavor but did have a nice dipping sauces the crab cakes were tiny and were mostly bread. The tuna and sushi were enjoyed. read more

I am not lying when I say I could eat at The Cazbah for the rest of my life and never get tired of their food!!! Everything comes as a "small plate" so it's meant to be shared (or eaten alone if you have a small appetite). We ordered four different plates to share for three of us and it filled us up perfectly without being super stuffed. The menu selection was phenomenal and there was definitely something for everyone. Our waitress was so friendly and gave us some of her personal recommendations. We ordered the spinach dip with chips, the lobster cigars, shrimp and grits, and the free range roasted chicken plate. My mouth is STILL watering over the lobster cigars and shrimp and grits! I don't think I've had better food in my life. Everything came out so fast and looked so delicious I even forgot to take pictures because I was so excited to eat! The lobster cigars were the perfect mix of fried on the outside and creamy on the inside, and the shrimp and grits was THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I'd definitely pay to find out what the secret ingredient in those grits is - so creamy, fresh tasting/not too salty, and absolutely delicious. Fantastic bartender drinks and service excellent. We enjoyed escargot (must order) cooked perfectly and the sauce it's served in is lick-every-drop-outa-da-dish good. Paired that with other seafood items mussels and ahi tuna. All excellent. Craft cocktails were fantastic. Special note if you like drinks similar to whiskey sours, order the Highest Trails Above which is a spin on that classic. I had a few and wanted more but had to drive home later. Our group of five ordered a few tapas from each section of the menu and we came out with full bellies and a reasonable bill. First off let's talk about the names they have for each section of the menu...the foreplay, finger lickers, Lil' Man in a Boat (not quite sure what inspired this), feather & flesh, happy endings. Someone had a lot of fun with the menu. Cazbah has a real cozy and romantic ambiance. The restaurant itself is not very big but has two stories. The first floor has just a few large tables for big groups and several smaller booth seats that are perfect for a romantic dinner for two. Foreplay - Baked Brie - Definitely get this! Brie baked in a puff pastry and drizzles with a raspberry sauce. This is the perfect appetizer and great for large groups. Lil' Man in a Boat - Escargot extraordinaire - WOW! Probably the best escargot I've ever had. The sauce was amazing and we shamelessly drank every last drop of it. - Naked Pasta's Lobster and Goat Cheese Ravioli - This was good but would not get this again. Came with 3-4 small raviolis and I buy Naked Pasta's pastas/raviolis at the farmer's market so for me this was not worth the $11 price tag. Feather & Flesh - Angus beef ribeye - Delicious! Although is it bad that I liked the mashed potatoes more? I'm more of a filet mignon kind of girl. - Chipotle duck - I think I liked this but the portion was so small that I probably only had one bite of this. - Beef Wellington - Definitely get this! Came to cazbah for dinner with coworkers. We tried everything under the appetizer menu minus the chicken meatballs. As well as the lobster cigars, escargot, and beef Wellington. The service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was smaller in size. Everything was good for the most part. The beef Wellington seemed a bit over cooked as I'm used to medium steaks and the lobster cigars reminded me more of crab rangoons which was slightly disappointing. The escargot came in a cream sauce that somewhat masked the flavor which was kind of a bummer but all in all I would definitely come here again.
