I walked in, was greeted at the door and got a seat at the bar for one. I walked to the regional area to grab a bottle of Sauvignon blanc that I had with my meal. There was a $10 cork fee. I had the crab cakes and the polenta cake. I wish the polenta triangle was two smaller portions so that I had more crunch! It was very yummy but I wanted more crispy bites. I ordered the steak frites. The fries were very crispy and good. I wish the butter that came on top was a little more melted. The steak was cooked medium rare. I added a glass of a cab blend to eat with my steak. I then had the bread pudding and it was SO GOOD. This was a very nice place to come and sit and read. While I was there, I also met the owners and had great conversation. They were very friendly and I enjoyed speaking with them about their adventures outside of the business we sat in. read more

Quaint, cozy, and all about the wine! Northampton Wine + Dine focuses on the wine first and foremost. Sitting in the bar is sitting amongst the wine in the shop. You're encouraged to go take a look around if you want to find something off the by-the-glass list, and you add $10 to the price of the bottle as a corkage fee. Very reasonable! The dine, though secondary to the wine, is nothing to sneeze at! We got the brie (very sweet but good, could have gotten it for dessert), the trout, and the scallops, all delicious. It did take the brie a very long time to come out, but the meal flowed nicely from there. If you're in a hurry, let them know so the server can make recommendations. Some folks have complained about there being no music, which I can see if you were sitting in the main dining room, but I liked the hum of the place as it filled with conversations from the patrons. Our table was to the side of the bar, and I loved the view of the wine and the brick walls, but would have preferred some of the empty wine boxes be stored somewhere else. Just realize you are eating in a wine store if you're not in the main dining room. They also have lots of side rooms for private parties! Outdoor seating is also available. The service was prompt and welcoming. The sommelier came over to give recommendations for our palate and budget. They have something for everyone! Northampton Wine & Dine has been around so long that maybe it fades into the sea of restaurants in Greenville. For your sake, give it a go. We have dined here several times in the last few months and our experience has been great each time. Their selection changes daily but there are a few standbys that stick around. The Hot Chili appetizer is one of the best openers I've had in Greenville. Sometimes it's just good but mostly it's great. If you get a dish with fries they are among the best I have had ANYWHERE. Service is attentive but not fawning and the availability of great wines in the next room for a corkage of $10 makes it great for trying out new vintages. Do remember that it is a small room and even though there are seats in the bar area it would pay to have a reservation. A locally owned destination that has proved its worth over time. read more

The guy at the front of the house - five stars. Able to get us in on a Saturday night and very personable. We just wanted a quick drink and bite before an event. Had a great glass of Pinot Gris. The ambiance is definitely cool. The downsides- the charcuterie platter was super underwhelming. I don't recommend. Unfortunately our server got sick and no one checked on us during his long departure and then we had to wave down someone to request the check to jet out of there. I called on a Sunday, when they are closed, and a manage/owner answered and was so helpful. We were meeting another couple, who were local, (we're not) and he decided we would be best in the wine room. Great choice. There are about 4-5 table divided by high wine racks, so the sound level was very reasonable. Ok, first off, the decor is very warm and friendly. Secondly, the service was excellent (Anna). And, thirdly, the food was outstanding. We had salmon, shrimp and grits, scallops, and burger. All were extremely tasty and well prepared. The french fries, which came with the burger, were as good fries as I've ever had. I realize that the fries are a minor item, but they demonstrate the overall quality of all the food. read more

The only thing was that the person that was supposed to be our server barely helped us. 90 percent of our service came from the hostess. Being completely honest here... This is not just a 5 star restaurant. It may not be the absolute pinnacle of dining on a worldwide basis, but it is in the top 5% of restaurants within a 200 mile radius. No way, it should be confused with a 5 star restaurant. The wine selection is outstanding. If you find a nice $50 bottle of Cab Franc you will pay $45 for it and add a $10 corkage fee to drink it with your meal. Other places will charge you $150 for that same bottle... so you are ahead by $90.... Two filet mignons dinners are going to run you about $76... Add a dessert on top of that and you are still doing well relative to any top rated establishment I have been to in the last 5 years. The service was outstanding. Our waitress was attentive and did not seem to mind that we and our friends talked for three hours. She stopped by occasionally, was easy to flag down when we needed another bottle of wine. She chilled another selection for us, but instead we opted for another Cab Franc, which was excellent BTW. That steak was on par with other restaurants that would charge $55 to $65 for the same steak... Excellent, tender, perfectly cooked. I have had better out West, but then traveling to Montana for a steak is expensive... They are flexible too. We asked if they would eliminate the herbal butter and replace it with a horseradish sauce, and they did... They have a MASSIVE wine selection. As we walked around the place we saw multiple bottles that we were familiar with and would consider to be excellent. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and helped us pick something that we really enjoyed. I think that outside of some places in NY City or LA (that were maybe three or four tines the cost of this) I have not had a better experience. Obviously, on a bang per buck basis, this beats them all hands down... This may be the best fine dining for the money in the the state if not the South East. Just to clarify things, I spent the last 50 years in finance so "bank per buck" is sorta part of my DNA. I'm a "foody" and a wine snob of sorts. My husband and I went to Northampton for Friday night dinner, our first visit. The wine selection was excellent and reasonably priced. We selected a bottle of gigondas that we both really enjoyed. We shared a salad, an app and the short rib entree, all quite good. The service was attentive, perhaps a touch unpolished/knowledgeable. The ambiance/layout was a little odd, having to squeeze behind other diners to access some of the wines we were considering. Our server Capers was very professional and knowledgeable about all the varieties of wine and the menu items. We started by selecting our bottle of wine at retail cost plus $10 corkage. I love this concept! For dinner I started with Gazpacho which was the best I've had anywhere! For the Entree I had the Pork chop with collard greens and sweet potato mash. Appetizer was wonderful. Definitely I'd go back just for it. I recommend the Brie appetizer highly. My entree was good. I think I'm just not in love with short ribs. I've had them a few times and I never thought they were special. This was probably the best I've had. My dining friend did not particularly like his shrimp and grits. He thought it was too tomato based. Again it was a preference. The bread was good, the wine was good and the atmosphere was excellent. There was soft jazz in the background. This is the kind of place you can relax and enjoy conversation. Nobody is going to hurry you out the door. Be prepared for a leisurely meal and a fairly high price. It's worth it. read more

I've only been here once yet for a Saturday lunch. It's a great building and very well suited for being a wine cafe! The facilities were clean and staff were helpful and kind. They appear to have an excellent selection of wines (all prices) and I'm no connoisseur but I did enjoy the wine we chose on our visit! The most disappointing thing (which I have read in previous reviews may have been a unique experience) was the food itself. I got the fish tacos (mahi) that were a lunch special for the day. They were the worst tacos! They had absolutely no flavor. You couldn't even tell you were eating fish. The cilantro in the salsa was the only thing you could taste. The cabbage slaw would have been good but again, no flavor. The fish itself was fried and had no seasonings whatsoever. I could have cried. But as I said, other reviewers speak highly of the food and I am giving this cafe the benefit of the doubt in that these tacos were an isolated flavorless experience. I'll try something else next time we are there! For dessert, I got the apple-berry cobbler. That was a mistake because I forgot my favorite part about cobbler is the crust and no restaurant ever gets the proportion of fruit to crust right. It tasted good, just more like a berry soup than I wanted. Oh well! Next time I'll get the mousse... or ice cream! Also- maybe this is how restaurants do it and I'm just not experienced enough to know but I thought it odd the waitress gave us only the menu for lunch specials when they have a bigger menu (for lunch and dinner) available. Maybe they just don't do the full menu on Saturday lunches, but if they do I much rather would've had more choices. read more

Review on Wine Shop only: Husband was esctatic about this wine shop - the wines were properly displayed AND properly stored on their side. The cork stays wet this way and reduces oxidation, which ruins wine. That is a huge deal. There have been so many bottles that we have thrown out from Total Wine (with bottles standing up). Their prices were pretty much right on with other shops - not discount. BUT, they do offer an 8% discount of a half case (6 bottles), which can be of any assortment. We went about 1pm and the kitchen opens at 4pm. The menu looked delicious and the set-up is very cool. With a great, supportive and knowledge staff, we will be back! read more

Seven of us celebrated a birthday on May 27th. We ordered appetizers, main course and desserts along with 3 bottles of wine. I was surprised there was a corkage fee. REALLY. I don't think we were ever charged a corkage fee for bottles of wine ordered with dinner. I can understand the fee if you bring a bottle with you. Also, there used to be a great pork entree. African pinotage with coffee overtones from a large blending component called mocha. Here's what I recommend to improve. We had the cheese plate for appetizer which included 4 cheese wedges, nuts, berries, guava paste and honey.
