After two bad experiences with the staff I was prompted to write this because half the staff acts like they're doing you a favor by doing their job. They've messed up my order and been totally unapologetic about it, and when I called to say half my order isn't in my bag AGAIN you get the attitude of "it's not my job to listen to you, I'll refund you and I don't care my oversight inconvenienced you"... they interrupt you when you call to place an order, kindness and politeness costs nothing, you're never to busy to be kind or polite. 4.5. I wish half stars were a thing. Great breakfast sandwiches, quality ingredients: there really isn't a challenger in the area for bfast sams. The North Shore sandwich is the best. Candied bacon and maple aioli is a great combo. I dunno where they get their croissants but they're pretty good too, and go well as sammies. I've been a dozen plus times, and I've only had a time or two when they were off their game, and usually when super busy. For instance, I brought my friend and he got the whole hog sandwich and it was kind of rushed and "under-sauced." I have a time or two where the bacon was off, etc. Small things that make it not perfect. Still, it's 95% of the time amazing and consistent breakfast sandwiches. I like some of the other cafes in Beverly and Salem for Breakfast sandwich stuff, but Crave is the best. For instance, Atomic has a good sammy (Joppa Flat) or two, but they're just not as decadent and scrumptious, and the ingredients aren't as high quality as Crave's. Coffee is decent, too. The food is amazing BUT the cashiers or whoever picks up the phone rarely gets my order correctly. I'll be lucky to get sausage, egg AND cheese. My husband and I have been costumers over the past 2-3 years. We like to go there as a treat, but not again. We waiting for 15 minutes outside plus the ten minutes he waited to order (along with a crowd of other frustrated customers) for TWO coffees... they never announced the orders to the many people waiting outside and everyone was getting frustrated. One of the owners (one of two brothers!) came over and talked to me while I waited and told me how he opened this place because his mom was Celiac. This place is absolutely awesome. These "breakfast" sandwiches are huge and delicious. Mine was bacon, sausage, and ham with melted provolone and other deliciousness. My wife has celiacs and got the roast beef on the gluten free cheese bread and raved about it. She seldom finds great GF food she only let me have the tinniest or bites and it was very good. We tried the fruity pebbles and Carmel delight cupcakes (all their cupcakes are GF) and they were divine! I would have never guessed they were GF. Iced coffees/lattes also very good. My wife is gluten free and were told Crave was the place to go and we were not disappointed. We had Maple Bacon Scone and the Pumpkin Cupcake. I really really want to give this place 5 stars. It pains me not to. However, I think it's important to be honest and factor in all parts of the experience, so here it goes. I came in here around 9 am on a Saturday. No matter where my boyfriend and I are (regardless of what state/town we're in or the time) we always stop at different local breakfast sandwich shops - so in total, we've been to hundreds. Anyways, it had a bit of a crowd when I came in, the staff was extremely friendly and kind. I ordered two breakfast sandwiches, an iced black, a latte, and a cupcake from the bakery. The total was $27. Ouch. $27 for two coffees, a cupcake, and two breakfast sandwiches? A little outrageous. However, I looked at my texts from when I walked in to when I left, and the total wait was 40 minutes!! I kid you not! 40 minutes?!? I'm sorry but again, I've been to so many breakfast sandwich shops and never waited more than 20 minutes, tops. Not to mention this place wasn't even that packed. On top of this, every person in line behind me got their coffee before me.... I was not hidden in the back or in a corner, I was right up front and did not even receive my iced black... (they gave everyone else their coffees before their sandwiches) after 30 minutes, I approached the cashier (although we had been chatting during the wait, again I wasn't hidden in back) and he made my coffees right away which was nice. Finally my breakfast sandwiches came out, and they were truly incredible. Everything about the sandwich was amazing - the cheese, the thick cut bacon (not the thin cheap kind) and a fresh egg and croissant. The cupcake had the BEST frosting I've ever tasted. I heard they have some kind of call ahead or order ahead system, so if you're going here I would do that. So, I love to recognize & patron locally-owned mom-&-pop style establishments because I feel strongly about the disappearance of these types of businesses from our communities and the struggle to survive faced by those who remain. It goes without saying that, if a small business stands out in some way, they will certainly see my repeated custom. I watched with eager anticipation the development of Crave Cafe & Bakery as the storefront seemed to be in development for ages - which highlights one of the struggles faced by entrepreneurs to overcome red tape, licensing, code & inspection approvals, seemingly endless obstacles presented by demands to bring a poorly maintained space to code and the burden such obstacles create on the businessman and his wallet and drive. Here, the family that opened Crave Cafe & Bakery persevered through all of the hardship, and much to the benefit of themselves & to the citizens of Beverly and surrounding area, found resounding success - and so very much deservedly so. What to remark upon first; that the food and goods on offer at Crave Cafe are made with such devoted attention to detail - perhaps if slightly at the expense of speed - and taste every much the way you would expect (which is to say, nothing short of incredible) but that the owners - a group of brothers - are some of the friendliest and generously-spirited individuals. The breakfast pita pocket sandwiches are hefty and satisfying; with fresh eggs and perfectly melted cheese; The sweet and the savory filled croissants are a perfectly sized snack if you just want something quick.
