Though the place was packed to the gills, we managed to get a table, even without a reservation. It was recommended (and subsequently four or five more times during our meal) that next time we call ahead for seating. The overall decor is a pleasant Thai theme with earthtones, but when I saw the bar, I felt it took away from the class and taste the other decorations provided. The bar, shelving behind it, and (I later found out) the lights for the outside sign are lit by a furious set of rainbow LED patterns. It's distracting, and I felt like it looked a little tacky, but it was easily ignored as I had my back to it. When we were presented with menus, I was immediately impressed that they were made of real cork. Our server took our drink orders (the specialty cocktails were nice, but a little pricy, so I went with the delicious Thai iced tea), and it was so loud inside that if there was music, I couldn't hear it playing. We had to shout across the small table to hear each other, but as this was during the first week or two they were open, it was expected. We quickly decided what to order and then sipped our drinks while we waited. Twice, we were offered food that we hadn't ordered, and were tempted to take it the second time. Luckily, it was only around 20 minutes until our actual orders came. The Pad See-Ew I had was delicious (I didn't have any ill effect, unlike some other reviewers), and the traditional Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles I sampled from my friends' plates was very good. The spice level was just enough so you were sure it was in there, but not so much that it distracted from the other flavors. Between the three of us, we all managed to clean our plates. It wasn't so much a decision as it was part of the meal for us to order Sticky Rice with Mango to share afterwards. After another 20 minutes, the dish arrived with three forks. Unfortunately, the rice was sticky, but not very sweet, and the mango was slightly under ripe. It wasn't enough to deter us from trying the place again another night, but it was kind of disappointing. Another thing that grated on our spirits during our experience was how everyone in the entire place (save for the bus boy) kept asking us how everything was. The first time, we explained how excellent it was. By the third time, it was great. By the fifth time, it was good. Every time we were asked after that, we just simply said "Good." I know things were hectic and it was opening week, but please, if you're going to ask me how things were, don't come back ten minutes later and ask me again. And then ask me again ten minutes after that. And after that. All in all, a good place to get some Thai without having to drive all the way to Rockaway (or West Milford). read more

First time experience at Cravin' Thai The decoration is simple but nice, except for the large screen tv (playing football games) that I thought was completely out of place in a Thai restaurant and kind of annoying. The staff was very polite and the service was good. The food tasted good (especially the appetizer), the only thing we didn't like was the amount of food they served. I normally don't eat a ton of food (I weight 120 lbs) but, after eating an appetizer, entree and dessert I was just borderlining being full. However, my husband who is an average weight as well, was a little bit still hungry after we left. We both agreed that for the price (which is ok) they could at least double the amount of rice they give, to have something to fill you up. Rice really doesn't cost a lot of money. Probably we'll go back again, hopefully by then they'll increase their portions a little bit. read more

The food is very good; some of the best Thai I've had. The homemade saves are fantastic! The menu is pretty large, and this restaurant also serves alcohol. Dinner here is very relaxing with low lights, and the option to sit near the window if you are a party of two. I'll definitely go again when I'm back in town visiting family. read more

What a completely horrible experience I had there tonight. I called in an order of chicken pad thai and fried rice. I was told to come in for pick up in half and hour which I did. An hour later I was still sitting there with no food. I saw table after table being served and my food was nowhere to be found. The worst part was that the woman at the front was rude and nasty and not once did she apologize for the delay. Instead of an apology I was told they were very busy (there were 4 tables). In fact, she was so nasty after making rude comments she went in the back and did not return. I had already paid for the food so I couldn't leave immediately but the next time I saw this woman I stopped her and asked for a refund, which she did give me but still did not apologize. As someone who runs my own business I cannot believe this place will continue to be open much longer with customer service like this. My fiance and I were so excited when this place opened but we will never go back (we eat out at least 2x week). If these people want to continue in business I suggest you retrain your staff on how to treat people. Skip this place, it is not worth the disappointing service (and high prices). read more

We came to Cravin Thai while staying at Crystal Springs resort, visiting from Brooklyn. This restaurant is probably pretty good by rural NJ standards, but it is not worth visiting if you are in from out of town. The Tom Yum soup was good, but the place was loud, crowded, horribly understaffed and terribly slow. We had an 8pm reservation and were seated by about 8:10 or 8:15 -- not too bad. From there, it took forever to get menus, get our order in, receive our drinks, and receive our appetizers (the soup). After that, we waited forever for our entrees. It was 9:15 before we were served and 9:45 before we were able to pay our check. The special shrimp and scallop pineapple fried rice was pretty bland. The drunken noodles were slightly better. There was one hostess and two waitresses covering about 20 tables. There were no bus boys. The hostess was running out orders and windexing tables between seatings. The two waitresses were absolutely unable to keep up with their tables -- we even waited over 5 minutes after asking for water (which should be provided to every guest upon seating, in my opinion). This restaurant needs to triple its dining room staff and, by the pace of the food, I would imagine the same is true in the kitchen. Needs a lot of work. read more

Food is very good here 4 stars , Service is slow so I give it 2 stars ,both at the tables and the bar on several occasion, they are slow. For a little place the servers seem to get lost for long periods of time when you need another drink , an extra napkin or just to get the check. This last time I placed a take out order and sat at the bar to wait , I asked the bartender / waitress for a lite beer on tap , she said she would be right with me as she was filling a drink order for a table( table of 2) . She returns to fill another drink order for another table of 2 , then goes to a table of 8 that just walked in to get more drink orders . Gees all I want is to sit an have a beer while I wait for my food , how hard is it to fill a beer from tap while you are making other drinks for your tables ? Finally after shes done serving everyone in the place , a women emerges from the kitchen with a baby , the bartender/ waitress then stops to hold the baby and stands and chit chats with the women , then she catches me out of the corner of her eye and says OH what can I get you ? My food comes out of the kitchen, I said never mind , zero tip . Really ?? how hard is it to fill a draft beer . It's not that they were busy with just me at the bar , 2 tables of 2 and a table of 8 . read more

We had a Groupon...so thank goodness it was half price. Let me start with the service - It was extremely slow. It took us almost two hours from the time we were seated until we got our bill (and we are NOT slow eaters). The Penang Curry was tasty, but small serving size to what I am used to. (no left overs for lunch here) The Thai burger was nothing special, and we never got the sauce we requested for it. The Singapore noodles were greasy. The Pad Ginger with Shrimp was too salty. Oh wait...that's not the shrimp that I ordered...it's chicken! The waitress did come by once and ask if everything was all right, but didn't stay long enough to hear about the chicken-shrimp! I guess because we requested sauce, she thought there couldn't possibly be another need. Needless to say...we won't be back. We will stick to Khon Thai in West Milford. I have never before sent a meal back in my life until eating here. This is also my first time ever writing a review online. The reason? I wish someone had told me so I hadn't wasted my money. They are using inferior ingredients and the result is food that is not only inauthentic, but tastes downright artificial. My Pad Thai tasted like it was seasoned with corn syrup. When I brought it back to the bar, the waitress said, "Well, it is supposed to have a sweet peanut sauce." I know it isn't her fault because she didn't prepare it, but it did not taste even remotely like peanut sauce. I know Thai food, and this was way off. My mom ordered a chicken dish that also lacked Thai seasonings and was overcooked and dry. Not only that, but it was overpriced. My Pad Thai was $12 which was ok, but my mom's burnt piece of chicken with a small piece of kale on the side was an outrageous $17. We ordered an appetizer of spring rolls which were advertised on the menu as one order being 6 for $6. They actually were tasty, but were 3 rolls cut in half. Why on earth would you advertise that as 6 spring rolls? My mom also ordered hot tea and was unceremoniously given a $2 cup of hot water with a Lipton tea bag on the side. Seriously? A Southeast Asian restaurant that doesn't have authentic hot tea? I looked in the kitchen to make sure the staff wasn't white (I'm white, so don't be offended, but I really don't want Thai food prepared by white people) and they appeared Asian, so I can only conclude that they are trying to turn a profit in a way that has compromised quality drastically. I would not even give this place a second chance. I'm forcing myself to mention the one positive thing out of a sense of obligation: the coconut custard was tasty. A small portion for $5, but it was good. My comment on it was, "Well, this is the best part of the meal." My mom replied, "This is the only good part of the meal." Don't waste your money. If I wanted food prepared with corn syprup and alarming ingredients, I would have gone to McDonald's. I expect better for over $40 for two people. I get Thai food in Philly for about 25% cheaper that is infinitely better. read more

Very slow take out. Ordered two pad thais, told me it would take 40 minutes to make, which already is a lot for pad thai. Arrived for pick up, then waited there for an additional 30 minutes until finally my food came out. Pad thai shouldn't take over an hour to make for take out- and if it does, then I would prefer being told exactly how long rather than sitting in the restaurant for a half hour. read more

Now, I'm not one to write reviews- let alone bad ones- but I'm hoping a manager or owner sees this so major changes can be made...My boyfriend and I ordered veggie pad thai from here last night to be picked up. The girl on the phone told us it would take 40-45 minutes, which we both thought was a bit long for a pick up order- especially for veggie pad thai. We get there about 20 minutes after we called it in and the hostess said it would be ready in a few minutes. Okay, fine- not a big deal. 25 minutes go by and we're still waiting, so I go up and ask how much longer because at this point I'm getting sick due to my blood sugar levels dropping. Same response, "Just a few minutes"- mind you, the restaurant was not that busy either, so why pad thai was not ready in 45 minutes was already ridiculous. It ended up taking a little over an hour for us to get our food. A fucking hour for two orders of pad thai. A fucking hour!! And the girls had zero customer service skills- we got no apologies or an explanation as to why it took so long. Thankfully the food was good, but needless to say we will never bring our service here ever again. read more

Really good food. I often go to Thai restaurants around NY/NJ and this is right up there with the rest of them in terms of quality and overall experience. The drunken noodles were really good (and spicy), classic Pad Thai was good, the appetizer sampler was a tasty variety of a bunch of items, the Chang beer is also good to have. Good service, good decor, perfect location and awesome food is why I'll keep going back. I would like to see a pra ram dish appear on the menu though. read more

I have no idea what these other reviewers are talking about. I loved this place. The food was fantastic, came out hot and fast. I loved the soup and pad Thai and dessert was to die for (try the fried ice cream, trust me!). Great ambiance, too. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful. I was going to the water park earlier in the day and wanted to get some dinner with my family. So we decided to go to cravin' Thai I am being totally honest I didn't know what to expect but I was happily surprised by the food because it was amazing. My family of 4 cleared 5 appetizers and 4 entrees and a dessert , and loved every bite. The appearance was very welcoming too. Cravin Thai is one of our favorite restaurants. The atmosphere is friendly and cozy. Bar drinks are fabulous. All the appetizers are very tasty. We usually get the curry puffs and calamari. Tonight we tried the sweet chili wings, which were great! The drunken noodles are our favorite. Under recommendation from a friend, tonight I decided to try the beef steak, which was so tender and juicy. Prices are very reasonable. Went here while staying at crystal springs...7min drive and it was worth leaving the resort. Being from the New York area and having been to many Thai restaurants , I would say this place is incredible and they definitely take pride in culinary taste. What a terrific Thai place! My friend and I spent time this rainy afternoon in the Hamburg Antique Center, then walked across the street to this charming restaurant with a tin ceiling. The bar was a nice surprise because many Thai places are byob! So we had a glass of wine and soup, spring rolls, red curry. Well prepared and nicely presented on the white china plates and bowls ! Awesome!!! FINALLY a Thai place opened up around here. I highly recommend the Thai Spicy wings :) We had the Pad Pak & Pad Ginger and both were very tasty. Very fresh ingredients. The portions are about right and reasonably priced. They get very busy, so best to call for reservations. They have a full bar and offer quite a selection. The owners and staff were super friendly. A great change of pace in Sussex County. Spicy only if you want it, with an inventive menu. Nice decor with date implications and fresh food cooked with imagination all at a very reasonable price.
