This little gem has been long awaited and anticipated for the 209. No more long drives to Sacramento or the Bay for this local! I went on opening day and while the food deserves a 5 star, customer service wasn't top notch; the staff seemed a little nervous and not certain or positive with the menu. There was miscommunication with staff as they were walking around to tables asking who ordered what. One person in my party ordered chicken strips and fries, the fries came out before the chicken strips and needed seasoning but I refuse to base my rating on "American food" in a Vietnamese/Seafood restaurant. The pho broth is phenomenal. A medium bowl can easily be shared. House sauce with spicy heat level is delicious with their shrimp. Garlic noodles are exactly what you'd expect. Combo 18 comes with a deliciously seasoned and cooked pork chop. Imperial rolls are top notch. All in all, I will return to this restaurant and hope that staff has found their groove. This place is amazing!! My husband and I are big fans of the boiling crab and the crab hut so we had to try this new place in town! I ordered the Dungeness crab and my husband ordered the headless shrimp. Both with the mild and house sauce. The mild had the perfect amount of heat! I love that they serve their seafood in bowls and not bags. That's a big plus. We also like that they clean the crab for you (yay for no poop) and that they have bigger sized shrimp. You will definitely get full off of 1 order. All of the other food looked so good too! We want to try the pho and garlic noodles next time. Our sides were sausage, Cajun fries, corn on the cob, and papas. Good portions with a fair price! For the two of us it was just under 70 bucks and we got those tapioca drinks as well. Fairly new to Modesto, so we had to try this place out! Walk in on a Friday busy night, the host greet us right away and we were seated within less than a minute! Very nice ambiance, crowd was nice & place looks very clean! Parking lot sucks tho!! I ordered pho and it came right away, but I was waiting for my chopsticks & ingredients! I waited 10 mins and decided to get up and grab everything myself! My noodles came out very mushy and no flavor on the broth! I did not like it at all! My husband ordered the headless shrimp with Thai curry flavor & sausage! When they came out with the shrimp, it had its head still on there and no sausage! We inform the waiter and he apologized and brought us a new one! When we got the 2nd round we didn't see the sausage that we ordered! So he had to take it back .. Again !!! FINALLY the 3rd round they finally got it right !! My husband said he loves the shrimp! Lots of flavor, not too salty and he can taste the curry in it! The muscles was very good! I love how it's not too spicy and not too salty!! Our waiter on the hand he was very patient with us, he was nice and friendly, always checking up on us! We tried this place because our favorite place for crab, The Boiling Crab, in Sacramento is too far for takeout. We ordered the king crab in cajun spicy sauce and king crab in the Thai curry Cajun sauce. Both were delicious! Especially since the crab comes pre cracked so it made it easier and quicker to eat. We also ordered the chicken fried rice which was also very good. I would def recommend eating here especially if you like crab. We will be going again soon! read more

This place has definitely went downhill. I used to come and dine in here at least once or twice a week before COVID hit, then when they started doing take out only I would still come at least once or twice a month to pick up food to go. Then I kinda forgot about it for the last year. I was excited to finally dine in here again last night, but now I'm not sure I'll be coming back. I was totally put off by their new set up of ordering your food at the counter first, then getting sat down after.. weird but ok. No big deal I guess. Then they bring out plastic utensils and paper plates and serve your drinks in plastic to-go cups.. even the pho comes in a paper bowl now.. I mean really? What is the reasoning behind this? Used to be a normal restaurant with regular plates, ceramic bowls, and actual silverware. The only possible reason I can see them doing this now is maybe being shorter staffed so it's easier for them to clean up and throw everything away instead of having to wash dishes. But I think it's Just kinda weird to be ordering a $90 dinner for two people to get served like we're eating at a food truck. Ordered peeled shrimp combo in the house buttery sauce and it was so bland compared to what I remember it being in the past. Some of the rice was undercooked and a little crunchy as well. The pho had barely any steak, maybe 4 thin slices and only two pieces of a meatball but the broth was still okay. Overall not impressed. I hardly ever post reviews neither good or bad unless it was something insanely good, or extremely disappointing. This one being the latter. I was so disappointed this time around I had to say something. Come on guys, do better. Even if the food doesn't improve, at the very least go back to serving people with normal plates and silverware if they're going to be dining in. Or just stick to take out only. This place is pretty amazing! I went there for the first time with two of my friends and we were not disappointed. Their house sauce is to die for! The asked us to choose from spicy, medium and mild. I asked the server how spicy is spicy and she said it's not that spicy for her. But, the spicy level is EXTREMELY spicy! It was so spicy that our lips were burning. The great part was, we enjoyed it. Veit-cajun in Modesto. Hole in the wall location and lack-luster building facade make you question the 5 star reviews... until you make it in the door. Then your next reaction is, "Hey! It's clean and inviting in here!" As far as Vietnamese restaurants go it's a gem cleanliness wise. Staff was quick to greet me upon entering and there was tons of seating. Prices on the seafood are clearly labeled in both the menu and big chalk boards on the walls which is nice. I'd showed up for the crawfish vietnamese style and that's what I ordered... though the pho and vietnamese dishes I saw go by, on their way to other tables, made me wish I could be a little more of a glutton and order it all. Crawfish were in season so live crawfish were and options... the only option really. Anyone who knows their crustaceans knows it doesn't get any better than that. My bowl of buttery, garlicky, crustaceans emerged about 8mins after ordering and I was not disappointed. My only comparison was against cajun crawfish boils in East Texas with their spicy, smoky almost sweet taste. This is way richer (read butter) and with more heat and a different flavor profile. I having relearned how to eat crayfish effectively I mowed right though my 1lb or so of red critters. Sucking the heads and pinching the tails as I went I found myself wishing for some southern sweet tea... But I digress, go by all means hungry because you'll do yourself and the place a disservice if you aren't. Don't expect cajun, do expect a friendly atmosphere and great food. Don't expect cheap, this isn't your $3.50 bahn mi lunch stop. The vietnamese food looked competitively priced but seafood doesn't grow on trees so come prepared mentally to spend $25 / person with a drink and a tip if you go with the seafood. FYI, please don't reheat crawfish... if you get it to-go, eat it while it's hot. If not just let it go. Friends don't let friends eat reheated crawfish. read more

Wow! First time trying this place and OMG! What a flavour explosion! My husband and I had the shrimp and Cajun fries for starters, and the shrimp was crisp and juicy on the inside, and those fries were deliciously seasoned! The pho broth lacks flavor and believe me, I have vietnamese friends and I've been eating pho since high school and I'm now in my mid thirties. We ordered the seafood boil with the house sauce and the shrimp was boiled to perfection, not over cooked. I didnt really like the house sauce because it was too thick almost like curry. The eggroll was good, the fried calamari was bomb. They serve you tons of fries with the chicken tenders so my kids enjoyed that. First off, I jus want to say that I'm HIGHLY disappointed for something that's rated 4/5 stars :( I had a friend that said this place isn't all that great compared to Crabzone in Stockton or BC in Sac. But I was at work, hungry and craved Cajun shrimp. Boyfriend was already in Modesto so I had him pick me up dinner which consisted of: 1lb SHRIMP HEAD ON and a CORN in their house sauce (buttery Cajun) which I thought lacked flavor. Got it in medium spice, but there was no kick at all.. My biggest problem with the shrimp was that THEY WERE SOGGY!! Like super soggy :( You can squeeze the shrimp and mush would fall out. I don't know if it's bcos it was old or frozen. I was really grossed out and sad. Since I was starving but couldn't eat much of it. We also got their REGULAR GARLIC NOODLES which tasted okay. I've had better. But let me tell you how greasy they were! After warming up the noodles in the microwave. One hand with the noodles, one hand with the shrimp/corn that I've put into a bowl. Both foods almost slipped out of my hands :( I guess my hands were greasy from the to go plate the noodles came in. I literally spilled almost half of my noodles onto my carpet! The food looks good, but taste wise, I wouldn't hype it like others have had. I'd say they're more on the bland side. Right now the place generally pretty busy, perhaps due to no competition yet from other crawfish type of place. Place is pretty clean also and price not too bad! Whenever i crave for some good pho noodle soup or some crawfish, I'd come here, unless maybe if one day there is a better place opening up in Modesto. I was taken to this restaurant for Mother's Day. There were 4 of us. We ordered appetizers, which were good. My family recieved there food and 15 minutes later and I still didn't have my food. 5 minutes later my husband went up and asked where my food was and they said it wasn't started. For my trouble they would discount my food. Maybe 5 or 10 mins later they brought my food. They explained I was forgotten because a large order came in and the cook is 70yrs old. This should not be an excuse or should have been told to my husband. I don't know how the food taste, as I didn't eat it. This establishment is in a league of there own. When you first walk in the smell is divine and it makes your mouth water. The staff is very attentive to your needs & the atmosphere is very family friendly. I was feeling adventurous and ordered the Garlic Noodle seafood platter and it was scrumptious. Its had things in it I have never tryed before, but the flavor and how it was seasoned made me wanna finish my whole plate. It was served hot and a great size portion. Before our food came out they put paper on the table for you to peel and crack crab shells and things. My family we had fun drawing and making fun pictures on our table sheet. They did not bring the complete order, forgot​ to bring our side of rice. We waited I got the​ attention of a hostess​ walking by and asked for our rice. Got our rice and​ never again saw​ them​ back​ at our table for more drinks or just to see how we were. The servers looked like they did not want to even be there the couple across​ from us waited for​ at​ least 25 minutes before they took the ​order. This would not be​ a​ big deal but​ they charge 40% higher of​ market cost for the shrimp​ which​ would​ be OK IF the service was worth the cost, it is not. the upscale​ cost $$ should cover much better customer​ service. I will not be back again. it is sad too because this was our​ second​ time here then they had renovation​ going on, and the service was better. I hope the owner finds​ better people. Flavoring was excellent but service was a cluster. Service was very disorganized. We got the one pound crawfish each. The Thai curry and Hamarind sauce were very good, along with the side of house sauce they give you. The garlic noodles are definitely not as good as PPQ. One recommendation I have for the owner is not break the noodles before they cook it as it is hard to eat when the noodles are so short. Not a happy customer today. I have been to your business 3 times and & 2 of the 3 times you have gotten my order incorrect. Today between 12:00 & 12:15 I ordered garlic noodles and an order of beef with the rice. After I contacted you, one of your associates stated "oh I'm sorry I thought you said beef stew". She offered me to change the order if I bring it back after I'm already home. It was for the wifey,and she came home briefly and was not happy with her lunch. Because I have given you 3 opportunities, I will not be returning. As the owner or manager of this restaurant this really needs to be addressed and corrected and keep your customers happy. FYI, my wife offered the food to anyone at work and not a single person likes or wanted tofu. It was even offered to a homeless person and they said they don't like that.
