We arrived mid-late afternoon and the restaurant was not busy but by the time our food arrived, Village Baker was pretty busy. The menu is huge but the blackened grouper sandwich was what my wife and I both chose. I was surprised how good it was because every February almost my entire diet is fresh grouper or mahi mahi. The dish here was definitely a worthy contender. Our friends ordered a Rueben and the Baker's Wife Pizza. Everything look so good. Since there were many items I'd like to try, we definitely need to come back. Service-Excellent. On our way our, we stopped at the attached bakery. Lots of really great looking baked items including scones, lemon bars, macaroons, tarts, cinnamon rolls, etc. So glad we discovered Village Baker.

Normally I get a sheet cake, but they didn't have any, so they told me they were giving me a 7 inch round When I picked it up, it was in a sealed box, so I didn't discover until I got home that the cake had a hard chocolate coating rather than just the plain buttercream frosting I had expected. When I called the store simply to understand what had happened, the woman I spoke with was argumentative and dismissive. She repeatedly told me that that cake "always comes that way" and that I "should have known." I explained that I had never received it that way before and had every reason to believe I was ordering the same traditional cake with buttercream frosting that I had purchased previously since that's what I had asked for in my phone conversation to order the cake. What was most disappointing was the complete lack of courtesy. I wasn't asking for a refund or anything for free--I simply wanted to understand why I had received something different from what I thought I had ordered. A simple, "I'm sorry there was a misunderstanding," would have been more than sufficient. Instead, what should have been a very simple conversation became unnecessarily unpleasant. The cake was disappointing, but the customer service was far worse.

The raspberry and rosemary scones are equally as amazing, with real fresh raspberry jam in 4 little pools on top. The cardamom radiating bun is unique and dense, the raisins are soaked in a orange liqueur and the top gently dusted is powdered sugar. Then there's the raspberry bar!! He said these are hands-down one of the two best restaurants for pancakes he has ever been to. (The other is in Washington DC). The Klompen cakes with blueberries were light, fluffy, and delicious. I even had half of one of his (he ordered three!) and was incredibly impressed. I got the veggie power blend skillet (sauce on the side) with two poached eggs. I only added salt and pepper, it did not even need the sauce that came with it, it was that good. The orange juice was truly fresh squeezed, the latte was good and the coffee was strong. Overall, an excellent experience. The only drawback to our breakfast experience was not being able to have real maple syrup with the pancakes. Kristin, a thoughtful and attentive server, explained that they used to have this as an option, but no longer do. We highly recommend if you are in the area!

The strudel was also excellent with a perfectly balanced gravy, well done potatoes, and eggs. The flavors and textures were perfect. The server was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was average. Not bad average, just fine average. No complaints. Just a basic farm style diner vibe. I highly recommend this place.
