Pho 96 is easily some of the best Vietnamese food I've had on the East Coast and such a hidden gem in Poughkeepsie. If you are anywhere near the area, this place is an absolute must-visit. What makes this restaurant so special is not just the food, but the heart behind it. This is a true small business where you can genuinely feel the care and warmth the moment you walk through the door. The owner, Khan, was one of the sweetest and funniest people we've met in a long time. He was incredibly welcoming and full of personality. Talking with him felt less like dining at a restaurant and more like visiting a family friend's home. You can tell he pours himself into this place and truly appreciates every customer who walks in. We ordered the chicken pho and it was heartwarming. The broth was beautifully clear, light, and deeply comforting without feeling heavy or greasy. You could taste the care that went into it. The chicken was incredibly tender and soft, soaking up all the flavor of the broth, and every spoonful felt nourishing and cozy. It was the kind of pho that warms you from the inside out. I ordered the grilled tofu with egg roll over vermicelli since we just finished our walk on the Walkway Over the Hudson, and honestly, it could not have been a more perfect meal afterward. The cold vermicelli noodles were refreshing and silky, paired with crisp fresh vegetables and fragrant herbs that made the whole dish feel bright and vibrant. The grilled tofu had a delicious char on the outside while staying soft inside, and the crispy egg roll added the perfect crunch and savory richness. But the real standout was the fish sauce -- slightly sweet, salty, tangy, and filled with little bits of chili that slowly built into the perfect spicy kick. Once poured over the bowl, every bite became addictive. We also shared the pork banh mi, and it was incredible. The stewed pork was juicy, flavorful, and deeply savory, balanced beautifully with the fresh vegetables and herbs. It was one of those sandwiches where every texture and flavor came together perfectly. Parking is street-only, but there's plenty available along the nearby side streets. Bam, new favorite restaurant in Poughkeepsie! Seriously, this was just the most comforting meal in a restaurant with such proud owners, you must visit. We decided to head here for banh mi and pho, but ended up also getting the chili lemongrass tofu and spring rolls. I'm no Vietnamese food connoisseur, but I've dabbled occasionally. What made this experience incredible from the start was the warm welcome we received from Chi, part of the family who owns the restaurant. He gave us some time with the menu, then stopped back to check in. We mentioned that it was our first time here and he began offering suggestions from the menu to accommodate both me and my partner, who is vegetarian. You can see from the photos that the food was on point with presentation for the otherwise hole-in-the-wall feel. He then began making suggestions on how to eat different dishes, recommending sauce combinations and explaining the traditional way to eat pho and what different add-ins and sauce mixtures do to elevate the dishes. When we finally got into the food, it was seriously incredible. Packed full of flavor without the excess salt or fats like you get with some cuisines. Mid-meal we agreed that this was just what we had been missing and how it is our new favorite spot. Inside is brighter than you would expect from the outside. It's clean with plenty of tables inside to accommodate parties of up to 5 comfortably. They're coming up on their first anniversary on December 15, and Chi was beaming with pride about it, it was very sweet. We stuck around chatting for a few minutes and got to hear him compliment his wife and sister-in-law as the engines of the business. I came across this spot by chance and so glad that I did, first time trying pho and it was amazing, I got the bun bo hue which is the spicy soup with lemongrass and it was absolutely amazingly delicious! I also got the shrimp egg rolls, so good. The service was great and quick, the ambiance was very family oriented and intimate which I loved, tables spaced out enough. Went back again for takeout and they were very sweet. They made me an avocado smoothie even tho it's not on the menu, and they made me the corn pudding dessert even tho they were out for the day. Came with a group of friends and their families after stepping off the Walkway Over The Hudson looking for an air conditioned restaurant. The restaurant is in a house and doesn't look like much on the outside. It is simple and clean on the inside and they were able to accommodate our large party. Service was very friendly and the pho was one of the best that I've had. The broth was very flavorful and the spring rolls were delicious and definitely not previously frozen. Let me start off by saying a lovely calm atmosphere to the place! Whether you are dining in or taking out, the staff is very kind & helpful, I love the menu variety. I have children so the fact that there is popcorn chicken & french fries on the menu was a wonderful toddler friendly meal!! Summer Shrimp Spring rolls were the perfect appetizer, I got the chicken fried rice & let me say the way the chicken was seasoned really stood out! It was delicious & flavorful. I love that I got a side of soy sauce as well My husband had the Pad Thai (for the first time might I mention) And he loved how different the dish is & the unique flavors.
