Probably the best Chinese food you'll eat in Kingston. The food is so good. What I like the best is the Chinese noodle soup very authentic. The orange beef is also really good!!! And the fried rice is authentic too. Reminds me of Chinatown style noodles and food. Now when we got a craving, instead of driving all the way down to the city we can just drive 20 minutes to Kingston. We've tried this place before take out, but I don't remember the food being this good. Probably cause this time we dined in and the food was more fresh. Definitely going back again and again. Hubs loves Chinese food. Take-out or a formal sit-down restaurant and he's down for either. Since moving to The Catskills, we've dabbled in one iconic sit-down spot in downtown Kingston which turned out to be dreadful and we've also enjoyed a take-out spot not far from home. What had happened was, thanks to hubs, he found Kingston Wok located in one of the many plazas on Ulster Ave in Kingston. Despite its strip small location, inside, looks anything but. The frontal has a bar area and is decked out with large plants. Their flaming red+black dining room hits you hard with lantern lamps giving out a nice glow to the already dim area. Hubs enjoyed his dumpling soup and charred pork ribs as he requested and pork fried rice. The fried wonton strips were divine+fresh tasting and my Thai Chili crispy red snapper fillet, was more than I could chew. But it was also busy. And while the sauce on the fish had a subtle heat, it was a gloppy heap of it. What's more, I was about to reheat my leftovers and actually noticed the red dye sauce at home. It was a turn-off. We'll return- but I'll go for non-saucy menu items next time. Our server was fast on his feet though and my Lychee Martini had nice strength. read more

Stayed at a nearby hotel and asked for good Chinese food recommendations--this place came highly recommended. The food was good. I ordered the large sesame chicken and chicken with broccoli. The sauce on both dishes was sweet and had just the right consistency--unlike many takeout spots that serve overly watery sauces. However, the rice was a letdown. It was too soft and lacked salt. An order was placed for take out for a decant amount food. The staff were friendly however...WHERE'S THE BEEF? The photo is not even an exaggeration. There were little pieces of chicken with about a head of broccoli. All of the other dishes were similar, minimal pieces of meat and high in oil. Options must be sparse in Kingston because there were people eating in the restaurant but I don't see why it's sustainable with below average servings. The vegetable to meat ratio should be adjusted. I would say it is now below what I term average Chinese food and possibly even below cheap Chinese food. I can tell you the place is always on the darker side when I pop in to grab my stuff. I guess it's good ambiance if on a date. I feel some of their spicing has been lacking since the pandemic. If you're visiting from the city, don't overlook this gem. It's a throwback to the better Americanized Chinese food places that closed like Mee Noodle on the east side. Yes, you can have your sugary General Tso that still has a kick of actual peppercorn. It was certainly greasy but not low quality at all. The location is convenient if you're at any of the hotels by the mall, and has a cozy old school interior. I got my order for takeout and they packaged up everything well in a box. We were in a mood for Chinese foods after a long day of exploring. This place was walking distance from our hotel, so we ordered to go. We got 3 dinner combos and a lo mein entre. We were pleasantly surprised how good and plentiful the foods were. The ingredients were fresh. Foods were ready for pick up as promised. Only problem was no utensils in our package. I'm relocating from Santa Fe, New Mexico and just tried this place. I like what they had to offer- with a sushii bar. They package their to go food very well, and you get a lot for your money. This is my second time at Kingston Wok and they have really good sashimi! Their menu has updated, and I came back after one year the sashimi is so good! Fresh and tasty! They have a bar menu but haven't had the chance to try. Will def Come back next time!! I moved to Dutchess 5 years ago and don't sample Ulster fare much but was in the area. I am SO glad I tried Kingston Wok! This is legit the best Chinese takeout I have had in years. The prices are much less than in my area, very reasonable imo. I got a General Tso's combo (which generously includes both soup and egg roll) and a side of dumplings, and everything was just delicious and far exceeded my expectations. Planning to hit them up again and try some different stuff tomorrow and I already can't wait. :-P read more

I have to say this place is a jewel of a Chinese restaurant. It was unexpected but very much appreciated. The food is as close as you can get real Chinese food while still supporting the Chinese-american variant you have come to expect in the good old USA. Everything is fresh I did not detect much MsG if any was even used at all. The dumplings are a huge standout and the wontons in the soup were identical to the ones I ate while in Hong Kong or in Taiwan. This place also has sushi and it was skillfully executed. If I didn't have a fish allergy I would have eaten it myself as I was tempted. Friendly staff, super clean and a great layout. So what could I,prove.. the only thing not giving it five stars was no combo's. It would be nice to have a list of a dozen standard fair Chinese options. With that said the entrees came with rice but no egg roll and soup. Not a huge issue but something to consider Americans have gotten used to combos. I really appreciate the service I got at Kingston Wok. I went in there last weekend and was in a super big rush because I was going to the movies and was running late. Not only did they get us in and out in less than 30 minutes, but they were very gracious about it (despite it being a Saturday night). Plus the food was really good! I order CHICKEN lo main and they gave me SHRIMP! SHRIMP?!?! Luckily I'm not allergic so I can just pick the shrimp out but if I did have an allergy there would be a bigger issue. I hate to say this since the owners and staff are incredibly friendly and service is always wonderful. The last few times we have eaten here have been pretty sub par. We always order dumplings and there is now always that hard chunky cartilage or giant piece of fat in every dumpling. It wasn't like that before??? What's going on??? And the sauce from the entrees has also been super thick and disgustingly gooey. Very unappetizing to say the least. I miss eating here regularly when the food was delicious. I have going to this place for around 5 years now and have never been disappointed. Every time we go here we are greeted happily and are remembered by the staff. This place was great when Christina and her sister ran. Now it is just awful, terrible and they must be paying for good reviews. The wonton soup has a lump of noodles wrapped around what appears to be a half teaspoon of cat pate. I threw the spring roll out - it it was chopped raw cabbage with no seasoning. I dread trying the Singapore noodles based on my experience thus far. This was the second chance I have given them because the food was disgusting 6 months ago.
