My family of 6 and I ate here on September 15th of this year. I've eaten here often before covid-19 and loved it. My last experience was awful. I ordered food here and they gave me fries instead of the fish I ordered and never refunded me. I bought 3 orders of 1lb shrimp and they skimped on the corn, potato, and sausage. They only gave me one piece of sausage and one potato. It's never been like this in the past. The three fries that they gave me had so much seasoning. I called once explaining the issue she mentioned a refund and I said that I wanted to come back and get it. We hung up and I called right back and said I wanted a refund instead and they hung up on me. The third time I called the manager and she confirmed that they would refund me. My husband and I made a point to try out this restaurant because seafood is my favorite and Crazy Crab had some pretty good reviews. However, this place is just not for me. I will highlight some key points below. First of all, this is one of those "write all over the walls with permanent marker" places. I personally can take or leave that whole gimmick. What I care more about is the FOOD. The menu is fairly limited. Aside from a few appetizers, you have your choice of shrimp, crawfish, clams, mussels, crab, or lobster. You pay by the pound (for instance, a pound of king crab legs was $30). They also have a sampler pot where you get 3 total pounds of shrimp, crawfish, clams(?), and snow crab legs for $45. You then pick one or more of three sauces (cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter) and can also have your fish spicy or not. Finally, for an additional cost you can add corn, sausage, potato, or rice to your dish. I didn't ask the kitchen if this is their exact method, but as far as I can tell, their process is: *they cook your fish. *they throw the sauces you requested into a large plastic bag. *they throw your cooked fish into the large plastic bag and then they shake it all up. It's just like pouring milk over the cereal in a bowl. Then that plastic bag with your sauce and fish is brought to your table. This apparent preparation method causes the fish to lack flavor, because those sauces/spices definitely did not taste at all like they are cooked into the fish. Never mind the fact that you will get very dirty sticking your arm into this large and saucy plastic bag to dig out your fish by hand. Also, no plates; instead you hand scoop your fish into one of those cardboard french fry trays. I'm sure this whole experience adds to the "charm" of the place, for some people. But not for me. I'm usually all for quirky novelty but in this case the gimmick just seemed to make my meal more difficult to eat and, most importantly, less tasty overall. I also feel the prices are silly for what you get. I can get 2 pounds of better tasting jumbo crab legs from Boston Fish Market for $45 bucks. Beside our main courses of king crab and mussels, we also got fried calamari for appetizers. The calamari looked like onion rings, more than any other calamari I've ever had, and there are no tentacles in the mix at all. Take that for what you will. Finally, the service was prompt and friendly, so no flaws there. However, between the nature of the dining experience and the quality (and value) of the food, I just don't see myself in any rush to return. I'm sure this place is somebody's bag of sloppy clams, but it just isn't mine. read more

Wow. I genuinely loved dining at Crazy Crab. It's just like any typical Cajun boil, but I love their daily specials and their Crazy Pot. The Crazy Pot is 3 lbs. of crawfish, deveined headless shrimp, head-on shrimp, mussels, clams, snow crab legs, 1 sausage, 1 corn, 1 potato. I'm a girl that likes variety...a lil bit of everything; that's what makes the Crazy Pot so dang good. Crazy Crab was quite full for a Thursday night. Or group of 4 were seated immediately. We ordered a basket of fried oysters and fries, a Crazy Pot, 1 lb. mussels, 1 lb. clams. I also checked in on yelp to get 1 pound of crawfish for free. Do the mix of all three flavors. If you like spicy then get the insane level. The insane level was spicy but not too spicy where you can't enjoy it. Also tried the fried oysters which were okay but I probably wouldn't order them next time. We ate at the Streamwood location and it's a lot better than the Roselle location by far. We ordered a lb of shrimp and crawfish with beignets. Shrimp was combination of 3 sauces, lemon, garlic butter and cajun with getting crazy level of spice and garlic butter for the crawfish with corn on each bag. The shrimp was good and was cooked just right, the level of spice was a little spicy for us but was manageable. The crawfish were not large in sizes but we are a little impressed how clean they were and tasty with garlic butter sauce. Just a little surprised how big of a difference on everything with the two locations. Maybe it was because it was a Thursday and it was buy one lb get one lb free for crawfish and quality was not that good at the Roselle location? I could not say. The staff were all wearing masks, sanitizer out along with the stations to wash your hands, and chairs on tables that aren't in use to keep distance between customers. Great food with good service. Just opened on Tuesday. For those of you familiar, this place is like Boiling Crab from the LA area. You order food by the pound and they boil it in stock of sorts that adds great flavor then they put it in a bag and give it to you. You leave the shells on the table and make a mess of your hands as you eat. If you like seafood and don't mind getting messy, go for it. Sauce choices: Cajun, Lemon, Garlic (non are spicy by default you choose that in the second step of ordering). Spiciness: Choose from the equivalents of Mild, Medium, Spicy, Extra Spicy. We went with the medium and you got some spiciness without overwhelming the flavor. If you like spicy food go spicy or extra. Calamari - tender rings of calamari in a batter that is similar to onion rings. They taste good but even better if you dip it into the sauce. Clams - great explosions of flavor with tender clams. The best part is you can scoop up the garlic pieces and cajun spices as you eat which makes it great tasting. Crawfish - I hate working for my food but I had fun trying to figure this one out. Here's what I figured out, hold the head in one hand and the body in the other, twist about 30 degrees away from you. Then pull down gently and the meat should pop out of the head. Then hold the body and tail the same way you just had it and push down on both sides of the body to snap the shell across the "spine" if it had one. Then pull up from the bottom of the body and the shell should come off and you get a piece of meat about an inch or so long. Dip the meat into the juices since most of the flavor is in the juices. Sausage - Polish sausage - it's fine, honestly you can get it anywhere so no real need to order it here fyi they were still doing the grand opening special, check in on facebook and you get a free lb of craw fish. Just ask if they are still running it when you go in. There is a nice hand washing station outside the bathrooms with 4 sinks so you can get cleaned up without having to wait. Although the the prices are market price and the Snow crab legs were a little hard to eat, almost everything we ordered was pretty delicious. I ordered one each of the corn, potato and sausage. The sausage didn't arrive in my bag, I had to remind our server I ordered it (but he brought me 2 for the wait). The potato was so well done, it just fell apart in pieces. Loved the lemon butter and the Cajun we ordered medium, but was more like mild. The price for Devine shrimp was the same as headless so why not make it easier on yourself. Really like the 4 handwashing stations with plenty of soap and towels since the bathrooms are single person rooms. Makes it nice that you don't have to wait to wash your hands. We will definitely be back but early in the evening. Went around 5:30 on a Wednesday and no wait for a table. Don't wear anything you wouldn't want to risk getting food stains on! Really quality ingredients. Everything cooked just right...nothing was even remotely rubbery. The whole shrimp were super meaty...if you're not squeamish about it, I think they're the way to go over the cleaned shrimp option. Very fresh tasting crawfish. Definitely recommend. The mussels were HUGE and delicious in the garlic butter sauce. I suggest the Crazy Pot as a sampler for first timers who aren't sure. 3.5 lbs is a lot and it includes corn, potato and sausage. We did the garlic butter on an order of mussels and the Cajun sauce on the Crazy Pot. The Cajun sauce is really, really good. Just a little bit of sweetness, perfect clarified butter base, garlicky and nicely seasoned. We only went with the "Getting Crazy" level of spice and could barely tell it was there. I'm from California and came to visit my sister and her family for the holidays. My sister waited over a month to try it with me. It was going to be her first time trying crab/shrimp boil style food. We ordered it to go last night and ate at home. I got headless deveined shrimp with corn, potatoes, and sausage in the Cajun sauce and my sister got basically the same with the 3 sauces they have all mixed together. The corn and the potatoes were fine. The sausage tasted like boiled hot dogs. The least they can do is use andouille sausage if you claim to be Cajun. I couldn't even figure out what type of sausage it was supposed to be because all I could taste was boiled hot dog (can you tell I hate hot dogs?) The shrimp was a bit small but what killed everything was the sauce and how overbearingly SALTY it was. It was too bad because the underlying flavor was almost there too. I also wouldn't call it a sauce. It was more like a broth. I like more butter based sauces. Anyway, maybe it was a bad night but you know me. We got their special which is the 3lb combination platter. From my memory this consists of all types of shrimp, crawfish, clams, mussels, and crab legs for $45. First off, the crab legs they give you have no meat. Literally no meat. The legs were skinnier than my pinky. I'm not even joking. Now that I think about it, I'm giving this place 2 stars. The shrimp wasn't really cooked so really you can't taste the sauce because...they didn't really put the seafood in the sauces. We also got the whole lobster which at the time there was a special for $22 a lobster. Honestly, not much meat. I think you can get more at Red Lobster. We also got the Whole Dungeness crab. This came out to be $45 for 2lbs. It's 2 lbs minimum. This was probably the best dish but again, not a lot of meat. The food comes out really fast. Which makes sense if nothing is soaked in with the sauces. Low Country is my favorite by far and just the quality is night and day. This place was very disappointing. I will definitely not come back here and just hope and pray my parents will come to the city so I can take them to better places. I have driven by this place dozens of times, always thinking I should stop in. Well. Today I picked the busiest day to order and pick-up but it was so worth it. We ordered the 1lb of crab and the 1lb of crawfish. The crab is great but the crawfish were some of the best I have had in a long while.
