Unfortunately, I CANNOT recommend catering services from Chef Gee Duplantier. While the quality of his food may be satisfactory, our school experienced a deeply troubling and unacceptable situation in which he failed to honor a contracted catering agreement. He accepted full payment, and did not provide the services promised. To date, he has not refunded our money. We hired him to cater a major school fundraising event with approximately 300 attendees. Just thirty minutes before the scheduled food delivery--despite his kitchen being only a few minutes away--he called to claim he had been in a car accident. Because of his failure to deliver on his commitment, we were forced to scramble at the last minute and purchased pizzas from Costco at the last minute to avoid disappointing our students and families. Following this, we made numerous attempts to contact him through phone calls, emails, and in-person visits to obtain a refund. Instead, he closed his business at that location without notice and moved elsewhere. After locating his new establishment and visiting in person, he still refused to return the funds, stating he was waiting for reimbursement from an insurance company. We offered to work with him for a repayment plan and when asked for documentation of the alleged accident, he was unable to provide any evidence of a claim. This was not a private event--it was a fundraiser for our elementary school. It is extremely disheartening that someone would choose to take advantage of a school community in this way. Given this horrible experience, I STRONGLY advise against booking any catering services with him. read more

I could hardly finish eating my food before needing to jump on Yelp and tell you guys how bomb this food is!! Caught them at the local SBDINDINAGOGO and was one of the first in line. Ordered the Red beans and rice plate with a side of crazy man n cheese and creole potato salad. Frriiiiiiiggin A it was so good!! red beans and rice was awesomely spicy with hearty slices of sausage in it. The mac n cheese and potato salad also had good complimentary flavor. I was stuffed to the brim half way through but couldn't even stop myself from eating it was so delicious. For dessert I ordered the banana pudding (I wanted peach cobbler but they were out :( ). It was pretty good but a little sweeter then then I'm used to and not as thick as some homemade ones I've had (which can be good or bad depending on what you like ) The only slight downside is it takes a bit of time for the food to come out, but admittedly there are only two people on the truck and indeed it is worth the wait :) I cannot WAIT to introduce my friends to this truck! needless to say I will be back :) read more

With traffic at a complete stop on the 110 near the Coliseum, figured I'd cut up Hoover instead to save my sanity. It was just after 2p and wasn't expecting to see any trucks at this point but noticed an unwrapped one parked in the usual corridor by USC. I noticed the "Crazy Creole Café" sign on the door and figured at the very least would be able to check out their menu for a future visit. I was pleasantly surprised when Chef Guy let me know they just pulled up and were ready to go. My initial thought was to go for a dressed shrimp po boy but with the bread not there yet, went with the bowl of Jambalaya which he said is his signature dish. Now I can see why. The rice had just the right amount of "dirty" with huge chunks of chicken, lots of shrimp and three kinds of sausage. There was just enough heat to add flavor but nothing that lingered. I went back to order the bread pudding and while waiting, he gave me a sample of the Shrimp Creole which is now an instant favorite. The flavors in the tomato based sauce jumped out at me and it took a bite of shrimp to help cool those taste buds down. I didn't bother asking what spices he used, or how much Tabasco, but it was enough to have that perfect blend that makes you wanting more. And the bread pudding?? Raise soaked in Jack Daniels. I don't think this requires further explanation and will leave it at just "amazing." I can't wait to see how this truck looks after the wrap is complete and really look forward to future visits. Do you hear a band playing or is that just the sound of the second line after eating from this food truck? My oh my, the crazy creole makes one mean shrimp creole. They're also serving up an oyster po'boy. I do love me some po boy sandwiches and while I have seen many trucks tackle shrimp, chicken and many other meats, this is the first one that has the rock hard shells to try oysters. I have to say, it was damn delicious. If you're like me and you want the challenge of replicating a dish you had at an establishment, this truck makes it a little easier by putting up their recipes on the website. Now, I have tried to do some Cajun cooking in the past and while I got close, it's nothing compared to the experience and love that this truck puts into their dishes. Guy DuPlantier has got to be the exact definition of southern hospitality as the service from this truck is spot on the best. This man may be a crazy creole but I would gladly follow him if it means I'll be getting me some of that oh so tasty creole. I mean, this man makes some sick alligator tacos. And yes, in case you're wondering, it does taste like fucking chicken. Big freakin' babies who are afraid to eat it. This truck is as authentic without going over to the cartoonishly Emeril lagasse BAM sort of way.. Well, just a little bit of that, But at least it's not kicking anything up by any notches other than flavor. Amazing food that will make you feel like you're in the big easy. Without all the FEMA headaches and requirement to show your boobs for plastic beads. Though you may want to flash someone when you taste how good your food is. read more

What can I say but this had to be the worst food experience I've ever had. They were parked at Wine Expo last night 12/22/2011. So after a few tastings of wine with a friend, decided to try this truck out. Ordered the jambalaya plate and the shrimp po boy. Jambalaya was mooshy like it had been sitting around all day and had no taste. I had ordered mac and cheese and a potato salad as the sides but was given some incredibly bland green beans and the potato salad instead. Okay whatevers. Who hasn't had bland, totally mooshy food and paid too much for it? It's L.A. That happens all the time. I had saved the shrimp po boy for today, a day later. Popped it into the microwave to warm it up and took a bite. Noticed that the shrimp was rather squishy and didn't want to look but had too. THE DAMN SHRIMP IN THE SANDWICH WAS RAW!!!! How did I know it was raw? Well right next to the raw one there was an actual cooked one that was nice and white and firm and not grey and uncooked. Unfortunately that was the only cooked shrimp in the sandwich and all the rest were raw. Wow really?! Raw shrimp? You want someone to get sick or die you jack asses? Thought I wouldn't notice because I'd had a few drinks huh? read more

Some times a truck gets so busy taking care of orders, it's easy to mistake that busy-ness with disinterest. So it was nice to see someone genuinely passionate about what they do. I'm not suggesting that other truck operators don't care as well. But Guy went out of his way to make sure I had a fair shot at what his truck has to offer on my second go-around. I had the Oyster Po Boy, which I missed the first time, made-to-order and it did not disappoint. It was all good, and I cant even think of a place where you could get something similar. They're the only game in town. Also sampled their Catfish Plate and that was just as good. Had a nice texture and crunch to it. This came w 2 sides, Crazy Mac n Cheese and Crazy Potato Salad. Their Mac was a nice change of pace. A lot of places do a fine mac n cheese, but usually err to the side of a creamy bechamel. The Crazy Mac was definitely more on the cheesy side, and more flavorful as a result. Now, I dont even like potato salad that much, but I could tell there was good stuff in this. It made for a nice refresher in between bites of catfish. I'll pass along their name to my Louisiana-expatriate friends, see if they pass muster. Hopefully I'll see them around more often, cuz you'd be hard pressed to find anything better in the South Bay. read more

I was hungry at 10:30pm and this particular evening only had 2 trucks on Sawtelle. Maybe because it was late? Nevertheless, I decided to try the Crazy Creole Cafe. Service was quick. I took my food home. I ordered the Jambalaya with mac salad and crazy mac and cheese. The food I though was just OK, maybe a little on the dried side. Perhaps that was because it was late at night. It had nice flavor, but not much meat. The mac and cheeses was good, so was the mac salad. I will try this again and see if the food was any better. read more

I needed to plan a memorial service for my mom, who loved Creole/Cajun food. I only had a few days to plan the reception that would feed 100 people, so I called the Crazy Creole Cafe to see if they could cater the event. I had sampled the gumbo and jambalaya from their truck but had never used their catering services. I was very pleased with the Crazy Creole Cafe's catering services. Guy assisted me in selecting the menu and made suggestions to order the Cajun potato salad and green beans as side dishes, which complimented the jambalaya very nicely. My family and friends only like chicken and fish and love spicy food, so Guy customized our order by only using shrimp, chicken and chicken sausage and made sure that the jambalaya was extra spicy. He can adjust the spice level for anyone's taste. By the time the service ended, Guy had arrived, set up the food in the church's reception hall and was ready to serve lunch as soon as we entered the room. He and his very professional staff did an outstanding job and everyone commented on how good the food was. The jambalaya was loaded with large shrimp, chicken and sausage. The potato salad was the best I've ever tasted! It was spicy, creamy and full of flavor. The green beans were equally fantastic! I would highly recommend the Crazy Creole Cafe Catering Services for your event, whether it be a wedding, luncheon, dinner party or reception, Guy Duplantier will prepare, deliver and set up a wonderful meal, no matter how many people you have to feed. Our local wine store caters food trucks often, and they have a great track record. On top of that, I've had some pretty amazing Louisiana-style home cooking. Chef Guy does not disappoint! We ordered the Seafood Gumbo, Shrimp Creole, and Crawfish Etouffee. The shrimp instantly became my favorite with the savory tomato sauce and the mix of spices creeping right up behind. The crawfish was cooked perfectly and the richness of the sauce made it one of the best dishes I've ever had. Guy doesn't skimp on the gumbo either, cramming in tons of meat and fish. The crab was a little tough to get into, but the taste made it so worth it. The flavors were so diverse and amazing we almost went back for more. In fact the only reason we stayed home was that we were too filled up by the delicious homemade desserts. Both the Bread Pudding and Pecan Pie were so perfect that we were torn between having to share and eating the whole thing ourselves. The pie was like a pile of roasted pecans glued together with caramel and sat in a flaky crust, and the bread pudding was better than any I've had ,don't tell my grandma! They seem to usually be based in Long Beach, which is quite a drive from me in Thousand Oaks. For this food though, I'd drive just about anywhere in California! read more

I'm a southern girl and you just don't get real soul food in L.A anymore BUT the CRAZY CREOLE CAFE is where its at... I had a few of their items and all were fab! Recently caught this truck for the first time in Fountain Valley yesterday at a food truck meet up. I don't give 5 stars very often. But I have to say, Crazy Creole Cafe is awesome! It truly is the best Creole/Cajun food I've ever had. The wife and I shared the Jambalaya and the Crawfish étouffée. Incredible flavor. Everything was spiced perfectly and had just the right amount of heat. I just wish the truck was in Orange county more often. But it doesn't really matter, I'll follow this truck wherever it goes. They did the San Gabriel Valley Food Truck Fest in my area today; and after having a few things from them, I was sold.. Everything was so authentic.. And I know authentic Creole when I taste it.. I had the Shrimp Creole Plate earlier. Everything in it was delicious.. The Shrimp was juicy; the creole sauce was spicy, just the way I like it. The green beans were full of flavor, and the Creole Potato Salad was amazin'! Everything a down home gal wants in her supper.. For Dessert, I had the Nawlins' Bread Puddin'. Soo good! Found this place at the last minute while looking for dinner in the area. Glad I came by. The guy that seemed to be running the truck was extremely cool. Truly excellent. I don't know if I count as a true expert on all things creole, but I did live (briefly) in New Orleans and return annually for jazzfest. This place is the real deal in my humble -- tried the jambalaya, gumbo, and red beans and rice. The gumbo was spectacular, and the jambalaya and red beans and rice competitive with the best Nawlins has to offer. Really really impressed -- will definitely be returning. read more

I love the Crazy Creole Cafe! The food is amazing and chef Guy is super nice. I'm a transplant from lousiana, and this is the best creole/cajun food I've found since moving to Los Angeles. I'm a huge fan of the crawfish ettouffe and the shrimp creole, and my fiance can't get enough of the jamalaya. Everyone at my office drops everything and heads over to this truck when we see on twitter they are nearby. Definitely reccomend! read more

Caught the truck on their first visit to Burbank. I'm not a big fan of crawfish (due to texture) but I decided to try the crawfish étouffée anyway. I was very impressed! The crawfish was not tough or chewy. The sauce has a nice kick to it without being overly spicy. Went well over the rice. I can't wait until they are back in Burbank. read more

This food is absolutely amazing. I have not had a single thing there that I have not loved. It is really authentic Creole cooking that leaves you craving more. My personal favorites are the catfish po boy - I'm a bit of a fish snob but it has been excellent every time - and the red beans and rice. I've lurked on Yelp for several years, reading others' reviews, but never writing my own. This is the first time a place has inspired me to write a review. I almost always bring my lunch to work, but this past Wednesday I decided I didn't want the lunch that was waiting for me in the break room refrigerator. I wanted something else. I randomly decided to look online to see if there were any food trucks near my office in downtown LA. The first thing that pops up is Crazy Creole Café - and only 2 blocks away! I think when I decided to look up food trucks, in the back of my mind I was hoping that Ragin Cajun would be somewhere nearby. (I'd discovered them online several months earlier, but have never had the chance to try them because they never come near me, and I'm not one to go out of my way to chase food trucks down.) So when I saw Crazy Creole Café was nearby and took a look at their menu online, I thought it was fate. It was as if I had made this food truck materialize with my mind. It was just too good to be true. So I made my way over there and picked up some Gumbo Yaya. Before I tell you what I thought of it, let me first tell you that I grew up in Southeast Texas, about 30 mi from the Texas-Louisiana border, so I lived close enough to Louisiana for cajun food to have been common. I've lived in the LA area since 2002, when I moved out here to go to USC. I've been looking for some good cajun food (unsuccessfully) ever since. Sure, I found a couple of Asian cajun ("casian") places like Boiling Crab in the OC. And they were fine for what they were. But they just didn't hit the spot. They didn't have what I craved, which was Louisiana style cajun - REAL cajun. That being said, I took one bite of the gumbo yaya and I knew that my search was finally over. I've finally found the place where I can get GOOD gumbo and GOOD cajun food. Many authentic gumbos have various veggies in them, such as okra and peppers. I don't like veggies in general, so I always pick around them and they're always left at the bottom of the bowl when I'm done. To my delight, the gumbo yaya had only broth, chicken, sausage, and rice, and had the perfect balance of each. There was even a small chicken leg thrown in! Can't wait to try the seafood gumbo. They came back 2 days later, and of course I had to go back. The first time I went was a Wednesday, when they were the only truck around and I was only one of two customers. The next time was a Friday, when there's always tons of trucks around Hope and 9th. It was really busy, with several people waiting on their food and a couple of people in line to order when I arrived. It took about 5-10 min before I was able to place my order, as they were busy filling orders already placed. It being a Friday during Lent, and me being Catholic, I had to try a dish without meat. I decided on the Shrimp Creole, which I've never had before. It came with two sides. I ordered mac n cheese and potato salad. I also ordered the Nawlins bread pudding. I'd say it took about 10-15 min before my food came out. I should've checked my order before I left, because when I got back to my office and opened up the container, I saw that I was given green beans instead of potato salad. I was quite disappointed, but it wasn't a big enough deal to go all the way back. Normally, I don't like tomatoes themselves, but I usually like tomato based things, such as tomato sauce, tomato juice, and ketchup. The Shrimp Creole was a tangy, slightly spicy tomato based sauce with shrimp in it, served over rice. I hate to admit it, but I wasn't really a fan. Maybe if I was more of a tomato lover I may have liked it. Or, it's possible that I didn't like the combination of the sauce with the shrimp. There is also a Chicken Creole, which the PDF menu says is the chef's favorite of all his dishes, so maybe I would like the way the sauce tastes with the chicken better than it did with the shrimp. In any case, I won't be trying the Shrimp Creole again. Not that it was bad or anything, it just wasn't my thing. The mac n cheese was delicious! The noodles are large, and the cheese flavor and consistency were perfect. The green beans (which I hadn't wanted in the first place) were slightly spicy. They were ok. But, as I mentioned, I'm not a big veggie fan, so don't rely on my opinion about the green beans. Oh, and the Nawlins bread pudding - AMAZING!! He will ask you if you want it heated - make sure you say YES! It melts in your mouth and is soooo good. Think I might try the chocolate bread pudding next time and see how it compares. Summary: Gumbo Yaya - Excellent! Veggie-free Shrimp Creole - Ok, but you might like it more than I did if you like (spicy) tomatoes/tomato based foods and sauces. Maybe try the Chicken Creole instead. Mac n Cheese - Delicious Green Beans - ok, but I don't really like green beans or veggies in the first place Nawlins Bread Pudding - AMAZING! MUST TRY! While searching for food trucks to visit our new brewery in Orange (Old Orange Brewing Co) I came across the Crazy Creole Café. Being from New Orleans, I am ALWAYS skeptical about restaurants claiming to serve "authentic" Louisiana cooking. After seeing the reviews and Guy's website, it seemed pretty legit. Then I talked to Guy, and knew he was for real! So he graciously made a stop by our little brewery this weekend. I could hardly wait to get some good home style cookin', and I was VERY satisfied. I LOVED the shrimp creole. It had the perfect amount of spice and layering of seasoning (and if I do say so, it went amazingly well with our IPA, haha). Hubby and I shared a shrimp Po'boy. Now, I have to say, my Uncle owns a VERY popular Po'boy shop in New Orleans, so I am a VERY tough critic... Well, the shrimp po'boy was outsanding. The key to a Po'boy is GOOD BREAD- not hard, dry, scratch your mouth up French bread. But French bread that is soft and not too "bready". Well, Guy ships his bread in from New Orleans, and I could tell! It was so yummy!!! I am sure we'll be using him to help cater our annual crawfish boil next year, but since that's a ways off, I can only hope he'll make his way back to Orange soon! read more
