This place is a tiny shack that can easily be overlooked by passerby but definitely worth a stop. The beef skewers were tender and had a nice balance of char and lemongrass flavors. The spring rolls were fresh and delicious. They have a couple of picnic tables but it's mainly intended as place for street food/takeout.

Great place for fresh seafood and Cambodian food. The beef stick rice, garlic shrimp and crispy salmon were freshly cooked, high quality and they all tasted so delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations. The ambiance is consistent of a shack with only a few outdoor tables and seatings. Get here early for the few available parking spots. Otherwise, street parking are available too.

The garlic shrimp is a stand out dish. Most of the garlic flavor comes from the rich sauce. There is not a lot of chopped garlic bits coating the shrimp if that is what you prefer. I found this fine. The sauce is generously poured on and soaked up by the rice, giving the rice much needed flavor and taste balance. A lemon wedge and several slices of pineapple are included to give the dish its tropical taste. There is some outdoor covered seating around the shack but you are generally facing the small parking lot. Good place to grab a quick bite but I saw most get their orders to go.

The food was absolutely delicious and 100% worth the hype. Everything we tried was packed with flavor, but I'm still thinking about the garlic shrimp... seriously THAT good. Perfectly cooked, super flavorful, and just one of those dishes you keep craving after you leave. The whole experience lived up to what everyone says--great food, great vibes, and definitely a spot I'll be coming back to when I'm in Long Beach again.

Last time I was here I had the fried rice which was phenomenal! I was tempted to get it again today but I wanted to try something different. I opted for stir fried noodles with no sausage and the salt and pepper wings. They were packaged nicely for transporting home but I had to take a quick bite before the ride home. The noodles were delicious and chicken was nice and tender. The wings were crispy and tasted great even without dipping it in the accompanying sauce on the side. The lady at the window was super friendly and answered my questions. Small outdoor patio is nice and casual on a beautiful day like today. Definitely a hidden gem of the city! Drive by too fast you'll miss it!

This little gem in Long Beach is a great spot to grab some great food! It's a very small building and there are a few seats outside or you may need to eat in your car but it's worth it! Items to order - the giant fried squid , egg rolls , salt and pepper wings and the seafood chowder!

Ah this garlic shrimp was sooo good! I loved the heafty amount of rice it comes with and the sweet slices of pineapple too. I've passed by this place so many times and honestly tried it when I saw this place listed by Infatuation. And I'm very happy I gave this place a try. The service was relatively fast and I think the price for this large plate is very reasonable. Truly a shack in the corner so very chill vibes. Everything looks good on the menu but I can for sure say the garlic shrimp is packed with flavor. I need to try other dishes from here frfr

One of the best seafood spots I've eaten at in Long Beach! My girlfriend and I ordered the crispy salmon, garlic shrimp and lobster, and all dishes were absolutely worth it. We placed a pickup order, and it was ready quickly, which was a nice bonus. The seafood tasted incredibly fresh and well-seasoned. The garlic shrimp, crispy salmon, in particular, stood out, it was easily one of the crispiest salmon and season shrimp I've ever had. I also loved that it came with a dip and a side salad, which complemented the dish perfectly. The prices are great for the quality you get, and the outdoor seating area has a nice, breezy vibe. I'd definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for delicious seafood!

My friends and I came here after a day at Anime Los Angeles. There's only outdoor seating so you're going to have to eat in your car or sneak into the nearby McDonald's if it's super windy and cold outside. The food came out decently quickly enough and we hauled ass to run away from the cold afterwards. Unfortunately, a lot of the more unique things that we wanted to order off of the menu was sold out, so that was a bit disappointing. We got the: 1) Fried Whole Squid: -Always see these offered at night markets and you don't usually see it offered at restaurants so we ordered this. Comes with lime and their house sauces. -Tentacles were hard and chewy. Overall this was a bit too dry and chewy even with the sauces. Not like the quality fried squid that I've had elsewhere with the moister meat on the inside. 2) Beef sticks on rice: -Comes with 2 large skewers with lemon grass marinated grilled beef served with steamed rice, pickled papaya, and garnished with cilantro and green onion. -Probably the best of what we ordered. Moist and deliciously sauced beef. Went great with the rice. Pickled papaya was a unique addition to it too. 3) Stir Fried noodles: -Flat rice noodles tossed with chicken, shrimp, Chinese sausage, eggs, onions, Chinese broccoli and carrots. -It was more veggies than anything. Not that many noodles and the meat was all dry outside of the Chinese sausage. I took some bites of this and was done. Took the rest back to feed my dad who had to cook extra protein to go with this. 4) Spring Rolls: -Made with mint, lettuce, shrimp, pork belly, cucumber and bean sprout with all of the sauces. -The most disappointing of everything that we ordered. -All the meat inside was super dry, making the entire spring roll even drier than it already was, even with dousing it with sauce. Literally you can get better spring rolls at BMC. That's bad. 5) Thai Tea: -Decent fast food level Thai tea. Sweet pick me up if you need it. All we wanted was to try the Khmer sausage but completely sold out for the night. Food was mid and a bit disappointing to all of us to the point where we ordered extra McD's where we were camping in.

I ordered the Grilled Beef sticks, and honestly, it was very nostalgic for me as this is a Cambodian Cuisine Staple. The service was quick, we called to order about 15 mins before arriving and it was ready when we got there to order takeout. It is a tiny shack located in Long Beach with a small lot, very cute spot and not very big. I want to come and support their business more, they seem like a very sweet small business.

This place is a literal shack. No indoor seating but the food is cooked with so much flavor. You walk up to the window where you are greeted and they take your order. Menu is pretty straight forward. They have a decent sized patio you can eat at. I'll definitely be back

Whenever I'm in the mood for seriously good fast food one of my top go to restaurant spots always includes A & J Seafood Shack. Located on a busy street in downtown Long Beach with off street parking and very limited on site parking. A true mom and pop with owners who make consistently good food, food soo tasty and I come back again and again as a customer over 12 years. Today's order is very much the same as the last I want and have been craving garlic shrimp and salt and pepper fried chicken. It's a hot day in California I need this food and a visit to the beach after to walk off the calories. My order. Garlic Shrimp Seasoned to perfection sautéed with garlic herbs and spices with a nice spicy kick served with steamed rice pickled cabbage & papaya salad it's very good. 10/10 in my opinion. Salt & Pepper Wings Seasoned lightly and fried crispy with a crunch that makes me want more tossed with shallots and sliced jalapeños and sweet chili sauce. I order extra shallots and jalapeno peppers it's that good. 10/10 Be sure to ask them to fry your wings extra crispy golden brown. I highly recommend you visit they have much more seafood on the menu the stir fry crab and lobster is absolutely amazing. Just me Shawn C. See my previous reviews for more details and context about the food from A & J Seafood Shack.

What We Ordered: -Grilled Beef Sticks $16.00 -Garlic Shrimp $16.00 We ordered two of their most popular dishes. I tried the garlic shrimp, and while I enjoy garlic, I found the sauce a bit too sweet and garlicky for my taste. My wife, who doesn't like shrimp, actually loved the sauce and finished it with the rice. I also tried the grilled beef sticks, which were excellent, and I would definitely order them again, perhaps as a sandwich next time. Overall, I would be open to trying other dishes if we return, but I wouldn't order the garlic shrimp again.

I have a digestive intolerance to gluten (but rice & corn ok). Do any of these dishes have soy sauce, barley, rye, or wheat ingredients and/or can they be made without those ingredients? Khmer Sausage, Braised Pork Bowl, Seafood Chowder, Cajun Bag?

You’re good. We’re not using any of those ingredients you’re intolerant to.

    Can bring my own beer?

It's just a shack with outdoor seating. Bring it at your own risk.

Good flavors that reminds me of Hawaii? Owner: Bring back the flag painting that was there before! 👍

Were in the process of creating a full wall murial that will include the flags and other cools sea creature arts. Hope to have complete soon.

Do you use any all purpose flour in your garlic shrimp? Wheat/Gluten allergy, so I want to double check. Thanks!

Our garlic shrimp are not battered with flour. So you’re good.

Hi Vannak, Is it possible to order the bag of shrimp without any added sugar or sweetness?…

Im sorry, our sauces are pre-made in large batches, so were not able to customize it to your liking except for heat level.

Can you buy just the papaya salad?

Yes, you can purchase a side of pickle papaya as part of an order with something else such as beef stick, wings...etc. We don’t however sell it by itself of sell large quantities of it due to limited supplies.

Are they already open for business?

Hi Jove! Our soft opening will be Friday, April 10th, 2020! We look forward to seeing you then for takeout of our fresh seafood!

First off, street parking can be a challenge, but we were able to find a spot right away. It is a very small restaurant, but kudos to the owners and architect who made really good use of the space. When you walk in, it is transformed, and you feel like you are in a whole different environment. The decor, the lighting, the layout, the furniture make this place spectacular and great photo ops. They have a huge TV for watching sports especially the World Cup, which was playing when we got there. They have a bar area. We got there right when they opened so I think the waiter was still setting things up, but was super friendly to us. The manager arrived and helped us since the waiter was still setting up. The manager, Carlos, was extremely friendly and helpful. And another couple walked in to eat, and they were attended to very quickly by the manager as well. We asked for ceviche, although we know they had just opened and breakfast was being served, however they were more than accommodating to get us ceviche. Even the tableware matched everything about this restaurant. I enjoyed the wood piece table wear and the set up. To start, we were brought tostadas. It looked like a couple of them may have been made with nopale, they were green. They included a roasted mild salsa with the tostadas. The presentation of the ceviche was stunning! They gave us a small jar of their salsa macha, which is an oil based red seed chili. It's amazing on everything, but especially on top of the ceviche. The portion was generous. They also gave us more tostadas and crackers. They also have unique desserts, I think I've read they make their ice cream in house and they had flavors like beet and avocado. Definitely need to try the next time I return. I highly recommend this place. I cannot wait to return to try their breakfast and other entrees. It's going to be hard not to order the ceviche as well because it's gotta be the best in the area. Definitely a new fave spot!

However, I will say if you are looking for a cute place to people watch on second street and grab a cocktail then this is perfect. I've tried over half of the menu and I've never been impressed with anything. I never can even get past one or two bites. I kept going back to give them another shot, but at this point, I've decided I can't recommend anyone to eat here, especially for the price point. This last visit I had an amazing bartender and preserved a poke bowl, ceviche, and shrimp cocktail. None were good and I can't even call them satisfactory. I had two bites of the poke and it was bland, boring, and actually tasted bad. Same with the shrimp. The ceviche was also off and my friend and I left full plates and no questions were asked as to why and if we liked the food. We didn't. Very cute place, friendly servers. Mediocre at best food, and very expensive. This 11th chance leaving disappointed (and hungry) was the last chance. I tried.

The terminus of the Pasana to Long Beach is a short 10 -15 minute to shoreline village. I came during the week so no big crowds. Splendid zeashore weather; clwar as bell and more pleasant than in the valleys. Loved basking in the sun near the water. Grwat way to kill some lazy hours. Lots of places have Happy Hour 3-6 pm Mon thru Friday. Now excuse me...but a cold beer is calling my name!

Inside wasn't that busy as everyone was enjoying the sun outside. That only time we really had food here was an order of the onion rings which was just ok. And an order of the chili cheese fries which was great. This time we were having a meal. Even though they don't offer happy hour they do have drinks specials all day. Somewhat their version of happy hour. The guy behind the bar was quite sweet and very friendly. Started off with a couple of beers and a meal. First full meal so there were some options in what to have. Menu wise has an array of everything. Starter, sandwiches/burgers, salads, and entrees. As it is a seafood place, we heard that their fish and chips were great. So we went with that and an order of the shrimp po boy which was recommended. Plus as the last time we had the chili cheese fries which was great, an order of that was place as well. Food didn't take too long to arrive. Chili cheese fries came out first. It's not your typical fries but potatoes wedge slices. It was good but last time was way better. It was covered and drenched with chili and cheese as this time was barely any. Good but a little disappointing. Entrees, it's always a little iffy when it comes to fish and chips as the batter tends to be too much. Well, it was decent. Wouldn't say it was excellent but decent. Served with cole slaw and a side of tartar sauce. Then the shrimp po boy, that was also served with fries. Half a roll with shredded lettuce, tomatoes slices, red onion and pickles. There were four pieces of fried shrimp which was over cooked and very crunchy. It was a little disappointing as I had high hopes and it was recommended. The place is great for a drink and hanging out. Food, it was just ok. The only time I enjoyed something was the last time with the chili cheese fries. This time, it was ok. Overall, it's a fun neighborhood spot. Certain nights live bands are present. Food, it was ok.
