Reviews often times reflect individual preferences. I decided to proceed with finally giving Crazy Fire Mongolian a try despite the poor reviews. The staff at the front desk was warm and welcoming. As for aesthetics, there is room for improvements. Needs brighter lighting. Crazy Fire Mongolian is a create your own fusion stir fry. Thoughts of cross contamination and meats sitting out was concerning. Upon arrival I looked over the bar. Everything appeared properly chilled directly on an iced Buffett station. The Raw meats were separate from the vegetables. Each item had its own utensils in its container. I went with the two bowls for 16.99. I used one bowl for meats. After cooked the grilling station individual added fried rice that I requested. My other bowl was for veggies with Lo Mein noodles. A veggie lo mein was my thought process. There was a decent variety of vegetables. I topped both bowls with light garlic oil and Mongolian sauce before taking it over to be cooked. Everything had a smoky grill flavor and it was mildly spiced since I didn't use much. I enjoyed it! I had plenty of leftovers that I brought home. The buffet bar: all of shrimp did not appear properly deveined. I do not recommend the shrimp. I enjoyed: spicy chicken , regular chicken, beef and pork. All were very good with my fried rice. I found that I needed more light directly above my table. It was very dim. Overall, no other complaints. I am glad I tried Crazy Fire and had my own experience. This is an interesting concept place. The hostess and servers were very nice. Concept is you pay for 1 bowl for $15 or 2 bowls for $18. You fill up each bowl with whatever meats, vegetables, sauces and seasonings they have available at the bar. You walk your raw ingredients to the Mongolian stove and they cook it for you. After it's cooked they will plate it for you and ask if you want white or brown (which I think is just simple rice just seasoned with soy) and hand you your plate and you can take it to your table to eat it. They had noodles on the bar so I did noodles and stuff first. The second time I just did protein and veggies and then got my rice after it was cooked and had fried rice. Within walking distance of my hotel, great aroma in the air. The decor of the restaurant seems to be within theme, but it's very dark, not well lit at all. I did get my food to go, see the pictures. They do have a pretty good selection of proteins, veggies, and sauces. Definitely get creative and try things you've never tried before. Although I took my food to go, there were several patrons and families there. People were making humongous plates. My order came out to right under $10, you weigh it and then pay. As far as the flavor, it is flavorful. It's really nice that it was so fresh and made in front of me. Stopped in to try Crazy Fire Mongolian Grill today. There wasn't a long wait to be seated. You have the choice between dinning in or take out. Here you get to choose your own meats & vegetables for chefs to stir-fry for you on their big grill This was an all you can eat buffet style restaurant but now it's by bowl If you use one bowl it's 13,99 If you use two bowls it's 14.99 If you choose take out then your plate is weighed at 11.99 per pound. The restaurant was fairly clean and the staff was nice. One issue is for those who do not eat beef and pork. All stir fry is cooked on the same grill with the same utensils. Another is sue is that if you dine in you will not get a to go plate for left overs. Overall I love the concept of picking my own ingredients and sauces for my stir fry. read more

It has been years since my last visit, and I am happy to say it is still a fun experience. The concept: Choose one or two bowls, fill them with the raw ingredients of your choice, and take them to the grill area and enjoy the show as your meal is prepared. I had a seat where I faced the grill area, which is fun watching how many ingredients some customers could pile into one of those bowls. Servers were polite, attentive, and busy. Crazy Fire Mongolian is our favorite restaurant in the Raleigh area, although we only like this specific location. The food is good, typical Mongolian restaurant. Great choice of meats, veggies, and sauces. The cooks do a phenomenal job! The real highlight of this location though is the staff. We go here every Sunday before church and I legit feel happy seeing everyone every time we come. Solenn is an absolute star. From the minute we walk in she is so attentive and friendly. I wasn't able to make it one day but my husband still went and he said she asked about me to make sure I was okay. Who does that? A phenomenal person does! She and others also notice when we miss a Sunday because we go out of town or get sick or something, and they always smile and tell us they're happy we're back. Seriously, this place has the nicest employees ever. Kayla is another top-notch person here. She's also super friendly, attentive, great at her job. Just met Serena the other day and she's exactly that way too!! Sadie was as well and we were disappointed when she moved on. The cooks are also amazing--and I hate that I don't know his name but the same man works there almost every Sunday and he's just the nicest guy and makes the food perfectly! Another man and woman have been back there cooking in the past couple months as well and you'd think they'd been here for years. They're seriously the best! I swear this place has the absolute dream team! So yeah, the food is great--but the service is what really makes this place stand out. read more

Went here on Sunday and had not been in years. If you haven't been here before, there are banners on the ceiling kinda explaining the process. We were sat immediately but no one gave us any instructions on what to do, so I just looked around and said "I guess we should just fill the bowls?" So we did LOL. The meats all looked / tasted fresh, veggies were clearly fresh. The only assistance I was offered was from the grill chef who saw me staring at the sauce choices and suggested I go with Mongolian - which was a good choice, but I over sauced (my own fault) - otherwise everything was very good. We were pleased with the experience but wish we'd been given instruction and not just led to a booth. That may seem silly but I feel like it would be easy to end up sitting there confused lol. Crazy Fire is one of my all time favorite restaurants. I love hibachi - and if you don't like what you're served.. (unless it has to do with sanitation) then it's partially your fault - because you're the one who creates your own meal here. I do think it's a tad expensive - but I can understand why. I like to make my bowls using shrimp, broccoli, onions, cilantro, mushrooms, an egg, noodles, house sauce and LOTS of cayenne seasoning. Then after it's cooked I ask for the brown rice. Service here was kinda slow.. but for there to only be one server doing everything, she still managed to do a great job. read more

My husband still fondly talks about going to a Mongolian Grill as a kid, it remains one of his favorite restaurants. Probably partly just because nostalgia and partly because he loves dousing everything in sauce and rice. He finally convinced me to head on over to Crazy Fire Mongolian to see if it was like what he remembered Mongolian Grills to be of his childhood. It was, he mentioned it was even a bit better! We went in on a Sunday night and while the place is a bit dark it was super clean. We were quickly seated, there were other tables dining it as well, but it seemed like a ton of people were getting takeout. I'm guessing its a better deal if you are really only going for one plate anyways. To dine in on a Sunday it was $15 per person. We loaded up our bowls with a good variety of items. They had a great meat selection from Korean beef, to shrimp, to tofu. I also liked the large variety of sauces they had, my favorite was lime ginger. Off to the grill we went! The man working the grill was very friendly and seemed like he wanted to make sure everyone was happy. It's amazing how he kept track of everyone's orders including when to crack the egg in etc. Our waters always remained full and we didn't have to wait long for plates to be cleared or the check to come. Something to note the tips at the table go all to your waiter/waitress and not to the grill. This was our first visit and last visit to this particular location for sure, possibly any location. Cleanliness: It wasn't spotless, seemed "old", our table was like sticky/waxy, like it was wiped with a wrap that had been used a couple times because there was this weird film. Hard to explain. Maybe it's the cleaning solution they use? Not sure. People do wear plastic gloves to go through the buffet, they do require masks. I actually happened to forget to put mine on somehow because when I walked in the first thing the host/waitress asked me was "did I have a mask in my purse?" after that, it went down hill from there. Service: We were greeted upon entry by a waitress that clearly did not want to be at work today. As soon as we walked in she said/mumbled "one bowl or two bowls?" and since we're in this mask era, it was even harder to understand what she was saying to us. After asking her to repeat herself she then pointed at a sign that read "one bowl (pricing) two bowl (pricing), no take out bowls for dine in". Ok, we obviously still did not understand what that means because we hadn't been here before so I said could you explain a little more, we haven't been here before and we're not sure how this works. She did "apologize" for not knowing we hadn't been there before. You would have thought I asked her to do something extraordinary. I understand there's no way for her to have known that unless we told her but also as a host/waitress it's also not a safe bet to assume everyone who visits has been there before. Most people ask or at least welcome you when you arrive. A simple, enthusiastic, warm, "Welcome to Crazy Fire Mongolian Grill, is this your first time dining with us today?" would have eliminated this entire awkward conversation, especially when this restaurant experience is different than most. There isn't much for a waitress to do, I suppose, except bring you drinks in this setup, but I still felt as though she could have checked on us other than when she took our drink orders and brought us the check. I did stop her and ask which sauce on the buffet did she like or if they were sweet or spicy and she recommended the Mongolian sauce. Food: If you don't cook, know exactly what you like, which spices you like, or can envision what your meal will taste like after you've picked out your ingredients, this is not the place for you. They did have some suggestions hanging on signs above the raw food buffet that might help guide you. Surely we all know if we like chicken or beef but when it comes to what sauces and spices you want to add, there is potential to either end up with something you don't like, is bland, or get lucky and like it. But I suppose that's true even when you order something you've never had before off a menu too. The bowl I ended up making (chicken, onions, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, soy sauce, ginger/lime sauce and Mongolian sauce) was pretty good. My husbands bowl was super bland. He said he was light on the sauces because he didn't know how much to use (he doesn't cook either). Overall, I think it would be a good place for lunch (unless you order two bowls) and once you've been a few times, you'd probably figure out exactly how you like your bowl. For the business owner: I'd recommend putting a friendly person at the front that doesn't mind explaining to people how to have the best experience (explain what "one bowl" or "two bowls" mean and why would we need two bowls, maybe some tips for the best way prepare your bowl, recommendations, etc.) so that customers don't feel dumb or that they are inconveniencing anyone. read more

Went for Saturday lunch by myself. Prices are $9.99 per lb for take out or I believe about $12 dine in for 1 bowl. I have been to a Mongolian grill prior, specifically I used to go to the Crazy Fire off Buck Jones frequently. This location is good but not as good. I believe there are more raw ingredients at this location (crab, squid, seasoned meats, etc.). Preparation wise it is the same. When you place your bowl for it to be cooked the attendant usually asks what kind of rice you want (white or fried) and how many scoops. Wait staff attentive, but not too over bearing when you're just on a date with yourself. Good value. read more

It's important to note here that we haven't seen a menu, just a chalk board at the front for a flash and no idea you cant take home your leftovers. I'm giving the food 3/5 as it's good variety, but they could communicate you get rice so you don't load up on noodles. The amount of cross contamination or prep looks suspicious. The chefs cook well, but only to the extent of ingredients they're provided. So we eat our meal, ask for a to go box and the gal who we talked to at the beginning (whom we told it was our first time) is our server and shares the news it's 5.99/lb for take out we explained how there were plenty of opportunities to share that information with us, but we're met with questions leading with "do you remember when you asked for a second bowl..." and "it's on the sign" and "I'm sorry, servers are inconsistent". Once asking for a manager, she gave me a box. The to go bit charge is not only shady, but also wasteful... food waste is a huge issue and to discourage people to take home food they already paid for is odd. A friend invited me to his birthday celebration at his favorite spot, CF. I was intrigued by the concept and looked forward to the festivities. I read countless Yelp reviews and became skeptical. Most discussed a run down restaurant that lacked any kind of sanitation standards. We met at 5pm on a Sunday and we were the only party. Our server was masked, and seated us quickly. She explained their new pricing structure: 1 bowl=$10.99, 2 bowls=#15.99. No longer an all you can eat buffet. She provided us with gloves to use while shoveling protein into our respective bowls. Various proteins, veggies, and sauces at the bar. I piled my food into my bowls ans waited in line (not socially distanced) for my cook. The cook is remarkable, dealing with 8-10 meals at a time. Grill looked dingy matching the overall decor. My food was appetizing but I could not shake my unease. Author's note-After reading countless reviews about their checkered past regarding sanitation; I looked at their Health scores dating back to 2018. They ranged from 87-93, with 2 B's, out of 8 scores. Bottom line- enjoyable birthday experience. Fairly expensive. Thanks to all the Yelp reviews because they definitely prepared me. I visited here 12/10/21. We were City of Raleigh employees trying to enjoy lunch with a party of 4. One of our co-workers sat down after receiving his plate but had to leave after a personal medical emergency. We agreed to pay for his lunch after he had just 1 bite. Yes 1 bite. After we finished I asked for a to-go box for his uneaten lunch. I was told NO. This is not a buffet and it should not be under the same policy. I would not ask for a togo box at a buffet. Sorry Crazy Fire, you are cold and the fire is out just like all of us. I hope others will read this and agree that this is a horrible restaurant policy. At over $12 a bowl for lunch not worth it. I used to love this place, but it is no longer an all you can eat experience, they charge per bowl of ingredients. I can cook the same stir fry at home for pennies on the dollar, the entire purpose of going here is to try different combinations, and if I'm limited to one bowl I can no longer do that. read more

The food is amazing. The place is clean. But their prices have skyrocketed. Not only has the price significantly increased, but they got rid of the all you can eat buffet. The best part of this place was getting small portions and trying out different combinations. Last I checked, it was like $20 for a single bowl and they usually charge extra if the bowl has more than half meat. Ridiculous. I understand that food prices have gone up, but this went from an amazing place to eat, to crap. I will never eat here again until they bring back all you can eat. I don't care about actually eating all I can eat. I care about being able to try multiple combinations in one sitting without being charged an arm and a leg for a couple pieces of beef and some veggies. Without being able to use multiple bowls for the same price, its not worth it to me. read more

The place is poorly lit, worn out decor, uncomfortable furniture, lists of rules posted everywhere. The food was freshish. The sauces on the bar were very watered down. I barely tasted anything I put in my mix. The cooks over cook the food. The long list of rules such as "if more than 50% of your bowl is meat, pay double" and extra charge for yum yum sauce. Had our 6 year old grandson with us and he fell asleep at the table and could not eat the bowl of food we got him. I am not sure where to begin. I was hungry and my hotel was right next door to this place. I walked in and said I wanted takeout. She handed me this small bowl like small bowl. Then you had to go put what you wanted to be grilled. The bowl was not big enough to hold much of anything. Anyway, the lo mein I got tasted stale and was not good. I would not eat here again. The whole concept is very odd to me especially with COVID. They did give you a plastic glove to put on to handle the tongs with though so I guess that is good. The only way you can taste any of the sauces is to ladle spoons & spoons full of extremely watered down sauces. Only reason I came was I had a Groupon. It's very easy to get cross contamination of the raw chicken to the sauces cause the ladle can hit the top of the chicken. I'm now scared my 10 yr old child will get salmonella:-( I won't be back nor recommend. read more

What a rip off. It's dirty and there's enough security cameras that it could be a prison.
