Pho Tai Nam
Jordan M.

The Vietnamese food here is incredible!! I've had the pho, and the Bahn Mi, and both are amazing! Both the Pho Ga and the Pho Tai Nam are excellent. You get a sizeable portion of pho, accompanied by bean sprouts, mint, jalapeño, and lime. The quality of pho is very dependent on the quality of the broth, and this place has nailed it. The barbecue pork Bahn Mi is to die for. The baguette is perfectly toasted and crispy, filled with perfectly fatty, melt-in-your-mouth pork belly, all with fantastic aioli that really rounds out the sandwich. Seriously, I was never really a Bahn Mi boy, but I'd go out of my way for the ones from this restaurant. At $4, it's an absolutely massive value, and so good that I might even settle for 2 Bahn Mi's for dinner next time. As a fair warning, the service at this restaurant is lacking, and they're frequently out of a lot of menu items. Don't count on any one dish being available. Despite that, the food is so that I won't hesitate to come back! If you like Vietnamese food, give them a try, I promise you won't regret it.

Had the com thit Nuong here and it was amazing, the Vietnamese menu reminds me of my late mothers cooking and really brings love into their meals and into my heart. Would recommend to any and everyone for an excellent Vietnamese meal!

The food was good, but thought $10 for the bowl I had, was a bit overpriced. Our server was nice, but she was manning the bar also, and was slightly lacking in her beverage knowledge. I probably would return if my friends wanted to go.

The overall experience of this place isn't like anything before it's literally made to order and you get to create the order

Visit every couple weeks, the staff is friendly, food is always good, and the price is right where it needs to be.

So: I kept to a two plate limit - actually brought both plates with me on the initial fillup so that I didn't have to go back - but for just $2 more you get anything you want. The pricing structure is reasonable, allowing less food for a single plate and the ability to bring home if you can only eat a small amount of a plate (there are such people, trust me). Other than water chestnuts they were stocked with every food listed on the tray. Wasn't sure on the meats but the seafood was definitely prefrozen. Not the levels of food I'm used to at Mongolian grill. (okay, it's been 20 years since I used to Fire & Ice, that's my last memory). But the cooked food? All's well that ends tasty. I did go for the frozen seafood and enjoyed a plethora of mussels, squid, and octopus (I kept the shrimp out). Went veggie by veggie on plate #1 to meet the most authentic mix I could manage (a lot of American tastes in the "buffet"). Plate #2 was a heap of seafood and 1 or 2 other things that didn't fit with the veggies. Got it all fried up with a generous amount of hot oil to impart heat and taste. Woo. And I noticed too late there are spices on the end of the buffet, but I think I'd rather have my sesame seeds sprinkled raw on top (extra flavor) compared to roasted and mixed in. So that worked in my favor. Staff attended to refilling my drink, good. We actually didn't walk out with a single bite left on our plates, or a single ounce of hunger left in our stomachs. There you have it: a decent change from most NC fare, and you won't be standing in line to enjoy it.

The staff at the front desk was warm and welcoming. As for aesthetics, there is room for improvements. Needs brighter lighting. Crazy Fire Mongolian is a create your own fusion stir fry. Thoughts of cross contamination and meats sitting out was concerning. Upon arrival I looked over the bar. Everything appeared properly chilled directly on an iced Buffett station. The Raw meats were separate from the vegetables. Each item had its own utensils in its container. I went with the two bowls for 16.99. I used one bowl for meats. After cooked the grilling station individual added fried rice that I requested. My other bowl was for veggies with Lo Mein noodles. A veggie lo mein was my thought process. There was a decent variety of vegetables. I topped both bowls with light garlic oil and Mongolian sauce before taking it over to be cooked. Everything had a smoky grill flavor and it was mildly spiced since I didn't use much. I enjoyed it! I had plenty of leftovers that I brought home. The buffet bar: all of shrimp did not appear properly deveined. I do not recommend the shrimp. I enjoyed: spicy chicken , regular chicken, beef and pork. All were very good with my fried rice. I found that I needed more light directly above my table. It was very dim. Overall, no other complaints. I am glad I tried Crazy Fire and had my own experience. Crazy Fire was a quiet and offbeat vibe that I actually enjoyed. Two meals under $20 with leftovers is a real deal.

You fill up each bowl with whatever meats, vegetables, sauces and seasonings they have available at the bar. You walk your raw ingredients to the Mongolian stove and they cook it for you. After it's cooked they will plate it for you and ask if you want white or brown (which I think is just simple rice just seasoned with soy) and hand you your plate and you can take it to your table to eat it. They had noodles on the bar so I did noodles and stuff first. The second time I just did protein and veggies and then got my rice after it was cooked and had fried rice. It's a decent price for decent food. I would possibly visit again.

I was actually a little nervous going in because certain Chinese dishes tend to upset my stomach, so I tried to avoid some of the heavier noodle and chicken dishes that normally do that to me. Honestly, I think that was the best decision because I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and felt completely fine afterwards. I started with the crab rangoons, which were perfectly creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside -- absolutely delicious. Then I tried the pork-filled bao buns, which was my first time ever having them, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed them too. Everyone else at our table seemed to really enjoy their food as well. I genuinely didn't hear a single complaint. We also ordered some drinks that were delicious, and both our server and the rest of the staff were absolutely fantastic and very welcoming throughout the night. The atmosphere and vibes inside are honestly one of the coolest parts of the experience. It somehow feels like a mix between a brewery, a florist, a bookstore, and a Chinese restaurant all at once. It's such an interesting and unique space that doesn't really feel like anywhere else. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would absolutely come back to try more items on the menu.

I stopped in just a they were opening on a Friday and thank goodness I showed up when I did, this place gets packed quick and you should book a reservation to be on the safe side. I was most excited about the duck egg rolls but ended up being my least favorite not because they were slightly on the dry side. Flavor was good, and the hoisin honey sauce really helped! The seafood dumplings were second best, stuffed full. The soup based was amazing and it also came with some bread for dipping in the leftover sauce. The pork and chive shumai were my favorite! A little bit bigger than bit sized but worth the mouth full! Absolutely would recommend. I'll 100% be back for more food. The bar side looked to be more casual, the dinning room was full of high tea attire so I did feel a little under dressed, thought it would be slightly more casual. They have the cutest library with free books to read but only while you dine in. The flower and book shop are in the middle of the space. Super cute, limited options but great for a last minute bouquet!

Funny thing, he got the orange chicken and didn't really like it. It is VERY orangey. I got one of the other lunch specials, I think maybe the beef basil one. Mine was good, so good in fact that a few weeks later when my family was needing an Asian fix, I sent them to Ni Asian. They were pleased, but got Chinese food. Also what is the point of saying you are a dine in restaurant when you now weigh the food regardless if you sit in or take out? I was hoping for tofu and shrimp or fish, well I couldn't just get that and add it to my bowl, it's a whole complexity that doesn't need to exist, also I am charged extra for it. They were out of tofu, calimari and scallops. I could only get lil cocktail/salad shrimp and imitation crab(fish), which cost me $5 extra to get a mix of both. LoL The house sauce was like water, it didn't add to the flavor of the food. I even asked for extra, and it came back just 'wetter' and not anymore flavorful. I honestly, didn't like this place with its needless complexity, pointless extra charges on alternative protein options (get this... noodles are an extra add-on too!).
