Just happened to be in the area and was starving. It is small shack sitting in empty lot next to a gas station. They have a several picnic tables setup. We ate at a table...seemed most people that day just came to pickup and eat else where. We got a rib plate and the pulled pork plate. The ribs were decent, I prefer ribs at Fat Matt's. The pulled pork wasn't to my taste. The pork was minced and dredged with bbq sauce. I would've preferred the sauce on the side since I like the taste of pork more than bbq sauce. They didn't ask so keep that in mind when you order. We had sides of green beans, potato salad and backed beans. They weren't making collard greens that day. Only the potato salad tasted like it was freshly made...the other stuff tasted canned and well salted. read more

Mmm... Crazy Ron's serves up some dang good BBQ. At first I was a bit skeptical of how good BBQ could taste out of a tiny train-like car, but now I'm convinced that maybe that's the only way to get it! I had the chopped pork sandwich with the spicy sauce and it was delicious! One friend got a chicken sandwich, the other a rib sandwich. While they said it was good, they found picking the meat off the bone to put into sandwich form to be a bit of chore. The rib tips also got a decent review... but the chopped pork sandwich really seemed to be the winner here. The drawbacks at Crazy Ron's? Well, the seating (outdoor picnic tables) aren't exactly appealing in cold/rainy weather. The side items could be good, but are the traditional BBQ sides (Mac 'n cheese, beans, greens, potato salad, cole slaw, or chips) which I'm not a huge fan of. I passed by this place all the time. But I really wanted some BBQ so I decided to give it a try. When I arrived it was only one person in line and they were a few ppl eating at some picnic tables and they seem to be really enjoying their food. I notice they were all eating pull pork sandwiches so of course I had to try them out. My order took about twenty minutes to make. The prices are a little high considering what other restaurants are asking. For example a two meat dinner and two sides is over 21.00. I know right. A three bone rib dinner is 14.99.But I wanted to try as much as I could. My two meat were chicken and a 3 bone rib. Unfortunately my chicken was over cooked and dry even with the BBQ sauce on it. The ribs although juicy one bone was super small so that why I feel the 21 is way over priced. The sides are a 8oz which is different than the usually 4oz or 6oz most other BBQ joints serve. Maybe that's what your actually paying for? But the pull pork sandwiches was superb. Great flavor and super moist. My tips order pull pork and coleslaw. read more

Crazy good is right! The chicken and ribs were fall off the bone tender! Why have I driven past this place a thousand times without stopping??? Sides were not good at all, tasted kind of old. We stopped on a whim for lunch after visiting Stone Mountain. We've found some of the best food in some of the smallest hole in the wall places and Crazy Ron's didn't disappoint!!! We both ordered the lunch specials which is a pulled pork (more chopped than pulled) sandwich, one side, and a drink. I had the potato salad and he had the collard greens. Everything was excellent! The pork had a sweet, slightly spicy sauce. The greens were fresh (not like the over cooked goop you get out of a can) and the potato salad had just the right amount of mustard! Combine that with friendly service makes it a definite stop if we're ever this way again!!! read more

The wait was about 15 minutes total I ordered the rib plate with baked beans, and potato salad, and a sweet tea, which came to about 15 bucks for lunch. At first I was worried that the food would not be fresh pulling up to the little stand because there was no smell of smoke at all. I asked for extra sauce which was $.50 because I am a sauce kind of girl. Upon returning to work I open my tray and at first glance thought I had rib tips, because I saw pieces of meat all over the plate. I realized one of the fall off the bone ribs had actually fallen off the bone before I touched it SMH. OK I'm still very hopeful and hungry LOL. Two out of the five ribs were burnt beyond being edible. When I found one that was edible I got a little excited because it tasted good. When I took a piece of the oh so soft white bread and put it in the sauce I realize it is the sauce that's delicious the meat is just mediocre. The baked beans were diabetes sweet. The potato salad was really good. Maybe it was just an off day?? The lady that took my order was really sweet... fact remains the only thing I would go back for is the soooo soft white bread and tangy vinegary barbecue sauce. read more

The ribs and chopped beef were WONDERFUL. Wasn't a big fan on the rib tips though. I loved the fact that this was good, old fashioned, smoked on the grill barbecue. Their customer service is some of the best I've experienced at ANY eatery. I will be back. The place is quick to pass up but once you see it you will always remember it because it looks like a red locomotive. There is no indoor seating however they have picnic tables for their guests. What can i say located in a non discript " shack" on the side of the road next to a convenience store going into stone mountain.. at 1st a little put off... . but after seeing numerous expensive sports cars parked there i said hmmm well if they can eat it its sure good enough for me! lol... soo there we were standing in the hot sun in front of the shack with smokeyyy goodness billowing out of it.. with Ron's perhaps wife taking our orders while he chopped our meats and got our sides ready, while his children played on the the side of the building.... what can i say... Best BBQ in Atlanta! After hiking Storm Mountain, my fiance and I decided to stop just to grab an afternoon sandwich to split before finding a late dinner. One bite in, we were hooked. BBQ sauce spiced just right, perfectly distributed on our juicy pulled pork sandwich, and perfect turnip greens on the side. It was so good that it took all our will power not to fill ourselves right then and there with bbq goodness. So we did the next best thing- bought a rib sandwich to go so that we could eat it the next day for lunch. Very few barbecue restaurants hold a candle to good roadside barbecue, and this is one of the best around. That being said, I'm a Georgia native, born in Atlanta, and barbecue taste is highly subjective to where you're from and what you relate to. I've been stopping by Ron's BBQ for years now after hiking at Arabia Mountain in Lithonia and driving back home to Stone Mountain. Crazy Ron's BBQ. Stop by Crazy Ron's BBQ today around 630PM. I had the taste for some of their good rib tips. Order a rib tips dinner with cole slaw and bake beans. Total was $16.00. When I got my plate , I when to my car. Curious if it looked like the last time I bought rib tips there. Hence why I returned. I looked at my plate. I was very disappointed. There was only nine or ten very small rib tips and the sauce half-filled the plate slot. The cole slaw was a little more than a tablespoon. The bake beans was the only thing sufficient. I when back in Crazy Ron's place with the intention to order something else, to go with this plate. However when I got to the counter to place another order I mentioned to the counter lady, how few rib tips were in my plate ( only ten). She first said that she didn't look at my plate but then retracted it and said the plates are usually that size. She shouted to someone in the back that i could not see to tell them that I was complaining about the rib tips plate size. Apparently that someone rejected my complaint and the counter lady quickly asked me if I want to order something else. I almost did but realize it was not worth taken another chance with the plate size. So I left with the intention to file this complaint. I felt as though this place was scourging the food to make money as gas station do with gas and their prices. My opinion only, it seems as though when some black owned businesses get popular they ruin their gesture to serve the people and become about the money. They should keep in mind that it is not only the amount of food that get someone to return but also the courtesy and service. Perhaps I arrived today at the wrong time and their rib tips stock was low. For $16.00 you would expect to get a decent amount of rib tips and cole slaw. I was very disappointed! I'd probably say the highlight of Crazy Ron's BBQ is the appearance of the place itself. It's a very small red shack, in the shape of a train. There's a small window that you can order from, and from there you can grab your fresh food and eat on the picnic tables in front. As much as I want to give a higher rating for Crazy Ron's BBQ (I'm a sucker for these hole-in-wall places), I don't remember the barbeque to stand out that much. Maybe I should have tried the bbq pork that everyone raved about. If you choose to eat there, be conscious of the weather. read more

I just finished my first lunch from Crazy Ron's and I must say that it was fantastic. I'm on a ketogenic diet and therefore I can't have BBQ sauce or bread so I decided to get some ribs, chopped pork, and chopped beef. My wife and I got pork plates with beans and potato salad. The barbeque was wonderful and the beans were fantastic. The potato salad, although "acceptabel", needed the potatos to be cooked a few minutes longer to make it perfect. It was not "crunchy" like most super market potato salad, but it needed a couple more minutes of cooking the potatoes. Still a very nice barbeque meal!!! Sauce and meat were fantastic!!! read more

What a find. On the way to Stone Mountain we saw the smoke from Crazy Ron's BBQ and the parking lot was full. We got some ribs that literally melted in your mouth. Hard to beat flavor and masterfully cooked. Topping everything is the southern hospitality the chef came out shook our hands and thanked us. We will be coming back here on every trip to Atlanta. Only improvement my daughter suggested, would be to be more generous with the side dishes like the slaw and Mac and Cheese. :) read more
