I received a chocolate chocolate Chip cake for my birthday, when I first saw it I thought it was very pretty, with all the colorful bows and ribbons. As I open the box to expose the whole cake, disappointment was all over my face, it was a bundt cake and im not a fan of bundt cakes! It reminded me of the cake from KFC, yuck(btw KFC cake was a freebie). ok let me try to keep it short. I didn't like the taste, too much chocolate chips, tasted like box cake from store, some parts of cake was crumbly, so slices didnt come out as a whole slice...most of my friends didn't enjoy the cake, they said it was too sweet. I love love cake and was so excited when I actually had one this year(last year I stayed away from sweets due to diet) but this years cake was a failure! I hate to give this place one star, but hey this rating is all based on taste, and the cake itself! read more

I started going to creative cakery when it opened near 7th st. and redondo blvd. I lived near there for a number of years and stopped on my way home from work - sometimes a few days a week - I became hooked on their cakes, cookies, lemon bars etc. I moved away in 1990, but over the years have ordered cakes to be delivered for friends and family AND myself...I have never been dissapointed in any of the cakes and the recipeints have all enjoyed them greatly. The owners of the store are truly the nicest and greatest people i have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I have ordered cakes on short notice to be delivered in Northern Ca. and Az. and have always been happy with what they sent. Last year I had a 50th wedding anniversary cake sent to my neighbors and the woman cried..she was so happy and the cake was beaurifully decorated...to say it was a hit is an understatement. I would recommend CC to anyone, and for those who think it a bit pricey, all i can say is it is worth every cent you pay...they provide a cake you won't likely find anywhere else, and the person(s) recieving it will be thrilled...and also, how often do you get to send a one of a kind cake for that special person or occassion? btw, my favorite is the lemon poppy seed and my friends is the vanilla...but they are all great.... read more

The best cakes I've ever had in my life. My wife and I had them make a whole batch of them for our wedding. The owner was actually alarmed at how much that would cost us, since you can get cakes a lot cheaper at places other than Creative Cakery. Compared to a wedding cake though, we got off cheap and with something that blew the minds of all the guests expecting bland white cake. The secret is the sour cream frosting which just seems to bring out the richness in every cake I've tried. The chocolate chocolate chip is my favorite, followed closely by the poppy seed & vanilla. If the pictures of cakes allow decorated with cheesiness bug you, just ignore them. They have no effect on these amazing cakes. read more

I love, love, love Creative Cakery, specifically the Long Beach store that was formerly on PCH but is now on Clark Avenue. New location, same great...everything!Ever since the first time I tried a cake from this store, I was hooked and spread the word to others to go check them out! I've frequently bought cakes for occasions ranging from a treat for myself to various special occasions such as birthdays for students, neighbors, family, friends and coworkers, get well gestures, saying thank you or even, just because. The look on the faces of the recipients such as huge smiles, laughter, shock and even sometimes tears when they see it/them says it all. My heart warms knowing that I made someone's day by making them feel special. That said, the staff there do the same for their customers, make them feel special and valued. They greet customers with a smile, lots of energy and go out of their way to make the experience the best possible no matter how busy they are and trust me, they are BUSY!!! They listen too and if needed, will make recommendations that turn out fantastic. They also have samples of their cake flavors to try which is great. I never had, nor considered, a poppyseed cake then I tried a sample while waiting for my order and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Now I have a new flavor choice to consider. Yum!! I also like the fact that they have pre-made cakes for walk-in customers where one may be needed in instances such as just discovering it was someone's birthday, the passing of someone's pet or family member or when one just happened to be in the area and wanted a snack. Yes, they have snacks too! Their lemon bars and pumpkin bread loaf (my favorite- when in season) are the bomb!! The final reason I love this store and their staff is, their hospitality. I'm disabled and they go out of their way to open doors for me, carry my bag(s) to my car, genuinely thank me for my business and always invite me to return. The only negative if I had to cite one is parking. But, some things are beyond our control. Despite this minor inconvenience, everything I've said above is worth dealing with it "and" they offer a solution. They'll bring my order out to my car if necessary, now that's true customer service! My friend and I planned on going to the Veggie Grill for dinner... when all of a sudden I had a craving for a lemon bar!!! Sometimes it just hits me... lemon bars.. panda express.... churros... trader joe's dark chocolate speculoos-filled candy bar... no rhyme or reason to my cravings... I remembered that Creative Cakery (right next to Veggie Grill) makes AMAZING ones. Alas CC closes at 7pm... and I only had an hour left to get there and satisfy my craving for an ooey gooey lemon bar!!! The dessert gods must have been smiling upon us because we got there right in time with 10 minutes to spare! I walked in with a craving and sweet tooth and walked out with my delicious lemon bar, a ton of free samples, and a tummy filled with little cubes of cakey goodness!!!! The customer service here is truly above and beyond. Today is my birthday and I was determined to get a really good, rich chocolate cake. I called in my order of the largest size chocolate cake they have about two hours before I wanted to pick it up. While I waited in line, another woman walked in and bypassed me, going straight to the register to ask the owner a question about the samples. The owner didn't realize that we weren't together and helped the woman first. When I walked up to the counter and she realized what had happened, she apologized profusely. I tried several samples while she got the cake ready, and she chatted with me about the different options they offer. Everything I tried was SO good, particularly the poppyseed and chocolate cakes. I handed her my card to be rung up, and without saying anything, she discounted my cake half off because of the misunderstanding! I LOVE when a place with an awesome product has the customer service to match. I'll absolutely be back for our next cake occasion. She seemed like a great person who appreciated people like me who are willing to eat a lot healthier. I work at a gf/vegan bakery so we got to talk about how it is growing for customers to want that instead for allergy reasons. I have to give the bakery points for a great idea on designing a simple bundt cake in to so much more. it really is a creative bakery. we always get cake from creative cakery...they do a great job--it tastes great and looks great too. it does cost a bit more than if you went to somewhere like ralphs or costco, but the quality and the oohs and ahhhs you'll get when you unveil your cake will be worth it. read more
