I forgot they don't take cash, and they were very understanding and helped us out with other payment options. Our family loves SusieCakes! They just celebrated their 20th Anniversary - Congrats! We have been enjoying SusieCakes since they first expanded to Manhattan Beach (we used to live there). Cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and pies are all so yummy! The best frostings and their cakes are so moist! Today, I came in for my Birthday Slice (thru the App). I also picked up another slice (I am NOT sharing my slice with my family)! The staff member included two cupcakes to further recognize my birthday. It made me feel very special! Celebration slice, of course, Strawberry Whipped Cream slice (season), and cupcake were all fantastic! They have some new items. Cookie Cake (large cookie but not a pizza size), usually these are special ordered. They are now carrying frozen cookie dough! On these hot Summer days, nice way to bake some cookies at home without all the work! It's also great place to grab birthday candles (include the numbers!) and sparkler candles. Her favorite flavor is chocolate, so we went with the Old‑Fashioned Chocolate Cake in the 9‑inch size, which they say serves 12-20 people but honestly, this cake could easily feed 20-25. It's huge, rich, and beautifully made. We added confetti sprinkles, chose chocolate buttercream for the outside, and requested a SusieBlue inscription for the birthday message. I purchased a Red Velvet & Strawberry Cupcake. The cupcakes were delicious as usual but it appears the cupcakes were smaller than they use to be but cost the same. Their pastry case was full and the options for cake slices were plenty. Cupcakes are $4.99 each. They also have minis at $2.75 each. Comparable with Sprinkles cupcakes pricing. Personally, I go for the cake slices since it's my perfect cake to frosting ratio - more cake, less frosting. Lol. My regular 3 slices are the celebration cake (funfetti with buttercream), red velvet (with cream cheese frosting), and the carrot cake (golden raisins, pecans, cream cheese frosting). I LOVE Susie Cakes but I understand the ratings might be a little lower because, let's face it, they're expensive. For me, they're worth it, it's one of the only places that I really like their fronting and their cake, but it is a splurge. But let me tell you - their carrot cake is out of this world. It is phenomenal. If you love carrot cake, you should try this at least once. I also LOVE their lemon cupcake. It's not quite as good as nothing Bundt cake's lemon cake, but it is a close second. Their chocolate cupcakes are deep chocolatey goodness. Chocolate on chocolate is heavenly. Their red velvet and vanilla cake and cupcakes are also really solid because they have such good frosting, but those are not the flavors I typically choose. But people who like red velvet love Susie cake's version. I had one of their sugar cookies as well - let me tell you, that was probably the best sugar cookie of my life. I'm not even exaggerating. I usually get cupcakes and most of the time they are dry and they're almost 6 dollars for one cupcake. One time I got a sugar cookie and it was the most dry bland but unappetizing thing ever. I'm not too sure if they keep their desserts out overnight or keep them for a couple of days so they don't go to waste but it's very weird that I work two doors down and I at least frequent this location maybe twice a month and they're always dry with their desserts. There was no lemon flavor at all, the icing was mushy, and the cake was like eating an eraser and had absolutely no flavor. Not even a vanilla taste to save it . No lemon whatsoever. Susiecakes has nicely decorated cakes, I feel that they are consistent, and service has always been good to me. I thought that the customer service was actually outstanding today. It's three stars for me because I feel that the flavor of their cupcakes are average. I have no complaints on the red velvet cakes or whoopie pies. The cakes are relatively moist. Had them tonight and not great. - One person had the "special of the month" strawberry lemonade and said it was good. - I had vanilla and cake was dry. Worst than store bought ones. - red velvet cake was also dry - I gave up asking for feedback. Very disappointed and embarrassing to bring to a party. No one had a second cupcake. My birthday was in October and my husband got me a 6" classic chocolate cake from this location :D!! I've definitely had Susiecakes before at other people's parties and events, but never got it myself. Really liked the decoration on the cake, I definitely think they have a keen eye for design and aesthetic. The sprinkles and color choice for the writing on the cake was super cute. That being said, I think this was just not my type of cake and it's 100% a personal preference thing. The cake itself was good! Moist, soft, sweet, chocolately...but too sugary sweet for me? I've always preferred lighter, airy cakes and this is more of a classic American cake? Heavier and denser. The frosting was what pushed it into too sweet for me. I like more whipped creams, and this was a thicker, sweeter, heavier frosting. It's a cake that I can only have very small amounts of at a time and be satisfied. I think their marbled cake would probably be a flavor I like much more. I absolutely needed a glass of milk or tea with this. Overall though, this is a preference thing as I mentioned.
