They have a great variety of books available for sale and they don't seem to mind if you reading one while enjoying your coffee or cold brew. In the back they have a large space with art supplies; just about anything one would need to get started and beyond. My mom purchased a few paint brushes and I purchased a round of beers for our group. Pricing is quite affordable - craft beer was $6.48 each and my mom's Saranac soda was $2.78. The store is immaculately kept and the restroom was clean. We had a great time while visiting the area and would come back again next time we're in town.

The cocktail program was created by the guy who created that of Wm. Farmer and Sons, which is probably the best of its kind in Hudson. As you'd guess, all drinks are rum-based (feel free to order from the adjacent bar if you're not feeling rum but in my opinion, only pop in here if you're looking for some funky rum cocktails). I'm not typically into rum, but I can be swayed if a drink is good enough. Such was the case here, and it didn't surprise me. Come here for a pre-dinner cocktail or a nightcap and learn a bit about a spirit you might've not thought much about prior to visiting. Welcome to the scene! Came here with my bf on a Friday night. We were getting dinner at Wm. Farmer and Sons but arrived a bit early for our reservation. Our gracious host recommend that we hang by the bar, OR, try out Willy's, just through the entryway. We apparently visited on its opening night, and I hope it enjoys a good life here. The hostess informed us that the cocktail menu there was different than that at Wm. Farmer and Sons--all rum-based--but if we weren't feeling rum, the bartender could still whip anything up from the restaurant's main menu. As I mentioned, the space itself is teeny tiny. Standing room only--more of a place to stop in as opposed to posting up and staying awhile. Just like its parent restaurant, the vibe in here is cozy and welcoming. Let's get to the important stuff: drinks. Everything at Willy's is rum-based. Even if you're not a rum lover, don't just assume you'll prefer the cocktail menu at Wm. Farmer and Sons better. I usually go for whiskey or gin, but I was thrilled with what I tried here. That said, if you come here and for some odd reason decide that you want to stay in this space but order from the other bar, you can indeed do that. I just don't suggest it, because what's the point? Between me and my bf, we tried the Mai Tai (Jamaican Rum, Bajan Rum, Rhum Agricole, Fresh lime juice, Curacao, Orgeat, Overproof Rum float) and the Fish House Punch (Jamaican Rum, Cognac, Peach Liquer, fresh lemon juice, soda water). Both fun tropical drinks, nice for the beginning of spring. Expertly crafted and impeccably balanced. I suppose I preferred the Fish House Punch slightly, but they were both fantastic. I thought the peach/cognac pairing was quite nice, rich but still refreshing. They also offer a Daiquiri and an Old Fashioned here, with your rum of choice. I'd probably recommend exploring that route if you want to explore different rums and understand a bit more about what each type brings to the table. I know lots about gin and whiskey and don't care to know too much more about rum (plus I don't like rum-based, spirit-forward drinks so the old fashioned would be a no-go) so it wasn't for me. That said, the bartender here is as knowledgable as they come and I somewhat regret not asking him about his selection to learn a bit more. They've got some fun stuff here that's worth looking into. I also have to say -- I genuinely do not understand some of the comments saying the waitstaff were rude or uninviting. Every female waitress we encountered was beyond gorgeous, cheerful, smiling constantly, and so kind to both me and my older great aunt. We got so many sweet compliments throughout the day and everyone made us feel very welcome. Michelle behind the bar was especially lovely and pours a STRONG drink, which we appreciated Honestly, I'm surprised they weren't busier for Memorial Day weekend, although maybe the bigger crowd came earlier in the day. Food-wise, the appetizers and seafood specials were very satisfying and obviously fresh. We ordered the crab cakes, soft shell crab special, their clam special (half clam casino / half clam oreganata), and a Bloody Mary topped with what had to be 12 shrimp. The crab dishes especially were fantastic -- those crab cakes were PACKED with crab and tasted incredibly fresh. I do want to leave a couple honest criticisms though. I was not impressed with the mussels in white wine sauce, despite multiple waitresses recommending them. This is a dish I order frequently in NYC and Long Island, so maybe my standards are high, but the sauce was unusually sweet -- my great aunt noticed it immediately too. It almost tasted like a sweet white wine was used, which just doesn't work for this kind of dish. The wine either tasted low quality or maybe wasn't cooked off enough. One other thing that disappointed me: the drawn butter is definitely not real butter. It tasted like a vegetable oil-based substitute. For a seafood restaurant serving fresh crab and lobster, I really think real butter should be standard. That said, I would absolutely come back here for the vibes alone. Beautiful waterfront setting, friendly staff, strong drinks, and fresh seafood made for such a relaxing holiday afternoon.

We waited at least an hour for our appetizers. Even the garlic bread took over an hour. When I asked our server, (who was very good, professional, friendly and attentive), after waiting about 45 minutes, if we could just have our garlic bread, because we were extremely hungry now at 8:30pm, she said it was coming out soon but that she'd bring us some Italian bread, which we didn't want but we ate anyway. Our entrees took another 45 minutes to come out after we finished our appetizers. The food was good. The portions were large. It was just the extremely long wait time for the food that killed this place for us. After the meal, I politely and privately asked our server if there was anything that could be done to make up for the wait time. She asked the manager and came back out with a bottle of Sambuca and shot glasses. No one wanted that so we politely turned that away. Our server then asked if anyone wanted dessert or coffee. It was already about 9:45pm. We were tired from a long day and ready to get out of there, so everyone passed on dessert and coffee. Our server then came back with the check. No discount at all. So I politely said, "There was nothing that could be done about the wait?", and she said, "I can ask the manager again, but we offered you Sambuca and then dessert, which was going to be on the house, but you didn't want either." I said, "OK, yes, please ask the manager again." She came back and said, "The manager took off a round of drinks for you.", which I was pleased with. Bottom line - if you're a large party (more than 6), or if they have a large party ahead of you, don't eat here.
