I have never experienced a worse experience than coming here. I waited 30 minutes to be sat, as locals were sat on arrival. After being sat with my co worker, we waiting another hour to be asked if we wanted to order anything. After another 30 minutes, I was brought my water. It's clear that I was being ignored due to my skin color. Never coming back here, sad to know places like this still exist. read more

After hearing some local praise, I ventured to the Creekside Restaurant & Bar this past weekend. However, there was no aspect of my dining experience that came close to meeting these fervent acclamations. Upon sitting down, I was greeted by my waiter -- a young man who, along with the rest of the staff, seemed reluctant to actively engage with customers. In general, the wait-staff needs to be trained to better coordinate themselves and to better serve customers. Further, the ambience of the restaurant's interior only added to the feeling of discomfiture felt by me and most diners. Moreover, the food served to me that night was, in my opinion, the epitome of inadequacy and dissatisfaction. My "Creekside Chowder" was more like "monster-infested creek water" filled with chewy bits of clams and an inconsistent base. I also ordered the "Penne a la Vodka" with chicken, and what I got in return was a poorly expedited pile of plain penne pasta, overcooked chicken, and a large amount of tomato excrement that was carelessly placed on the dish. I was appalled by my experience at Creekside Restaurant & Bar, and I strongly proclaim that you avoid this pathetic eating establishment. Located between the Hop-O-Nose Marina and Catskill Creek, this is a hidden gem of a restaurant. Formerly a place called Solstice, this is a surprisingly near-fancy and friendly family restaurant with an excellent dinner menu. Driving up, you might not expect much. The marina is largely abandoned at night, and there's not a lot to indicate that there's an active restaurant nearby. But there is. Step onto the deck and look into the large plate-glass windows overlooking the creek. The dining room is spacious -- even though a band called the Digits has set up its gear in the corner (house band?). Stepping inside, you'll encounter the bar area. I think there's a pool table there. Once inside the dining area, almost every seat brings with it a view of the creek, which is quite nice. And the menu! I rarely eat beef, much less steak, but I had your basic steak with mashed potatoes and steamed (or sauteed, I couldn't quite tell) zucchini. I forget what C. ordered, but I'm guessing some kind of fish -- the salmon? We both had a glass of wine, the house red and white -- I had a fine merlot -- and all in all, the meal was excellent... certainly better than we expected. Having walked almost the entire length of Main Street, I didn't expect a lot out of Catskill -- even though we did find a box of free video tapes on top of a garbage can. Creekside made the drive worthwhile -- and I'd return just to eat there! read more

Every trip north from NJ we come here with local friends mainly for one reason; Creekside's calamari, which is without any doubt, the best we have had anywhere. My wife says the Arugula Salad is great while our friend likes the Asian Salad. Also quite good, is the Fish n' Chips.. The inside atmosphere nice, but the real atmosphere is outside where you can dine overlooking the marina. read more

It was bound to be an epic NYE in the Catskills. A gathering on 8 vagabonds were meeting in Catskills to load up on food, booze, and other supplies. We looked up food in the area and Creekside popped up. Luckily we were there during the middle of the day because 8 people rolling up for lunch like that is always a crap shoot. All and all solid pub food. Nothing to scream about but our waitress was a true gem, she was quick, courteous, and generally on point. I ordered the Philly Swiss Cheese Steak - a nice foundation for the evening ahead of us. If you're driving through, you're going to get some great water views and friendly staff. we had a hard time finding this place, it's in such an obscure location. the crabcakes they touted as delicious and without filler was a scam. I was excited to order them, and surely disappointed when I first saw they were heavily breaded with Italian breadcrumbs. the brown pulverized (crab?) meat was loaded with filler, and tasted as such. I had to send them back! the waitperson was offended, and argued that her friend from MD said they were the best she ever had. I lived in VA most of my adult life, and these cakes couldn't hold a candle to the MD crab cakes! they tasted like the ones sold in the grocery stores.. totally gross. service could definitely be better! read more

It was slow in the middle of the week and she seemed to have disappeared at some points with long gaps where she didn't come back. If we needed something we had to get up and find her to ask for it. this place is a diamond in the rough. shrimp cocktail came with tremendous shrimp, the kids smcheese burger was also a healthy enough size that my very hungry & rapidly growing 6 1/2 was not able to finish it (very rare occurrence with him) the kids drinks were also a generous size. the clam chowder was the only thing lacking, it just didn't seem homemade, which i was looking forward to. we are not from the area & found the place very easily. i'd love to go again in order to see this place at different times of the year. read more

We've been here several times. I usually get the crab cakes which are usually very good. Last night they had an unexpected lemon taste which wasn't a good change. My friend had the broiled seafood plate which she enjoyed. Mashed potatoes were great. For dessert we split a peanut butter pie which was very good. Service can be good or spotty, it varies. read more

The Creekside is actually the heart and soul of the old Hop-O-Nose Marina. Located on the Catskill Creek, hence the name, on a bank above the docks, the view whether you sit inside or outside on the patio/deck makes you feel like you're on a mini vacation. Sean the owner, chef, marina manager and master mast setter runs a first class operation from a boaters point of view as well dishing up an incredible dinning experience for all to enjoy. Starting with the appetizers; order the Calamari, it's the best I've ever had with a freshly made spicy sauce drizzled with Balsamic Vinegar, tender and delicious, not rubbery as you'll find in a lot of restaurants . His dinner specials are always worth a listen and if they don't start your mouth watering you can't go wrong with anything else on the menu. The seafood, fresh daily and the steaks all receive highest marks and not to forget the garlic mashed potatoes that accompany them. Happy Hour (good Bartenders)is always crowded and the vibe is good fun with a mix of boat owners, Catskill Businessmen and women and just plan folks out after work on Friday to unwind. Once again you can roam inside and out. A lot have changes have gone on since the last review in 2006 and all for the better. There is live music on weekends and holidays with an outside tent available for the more well known bands. The marina itself is rocking from Mid May until Mid September, plus Sean is in the middle of a major makeover of the property with landscaping, walkways, new docks and amenities. He also offers transient space if you arrive by boat for lunch, dinner, live music or all three. Don't miss this hideaway on the Catskill Creek, I know you come back again. read more

This place has a fantastic venue but over the years has never developed a clientele to sustain it. I now live in the Midwest and have a better understanding about what people will eat. It is too bad. I'm wondering if the owner of Creekside even wants to attract customers at all, judging by how well-hidden he keeps his restaurant! Seriously, this place was nearly impossible for me & The Hub to find, and we're part-time residents of this area who know this town very well. We finally got someone on the phone from the restaurant who basically walked us through the process of finding it one evening. Eureka! There it was! Once there, the place was worth the trouble finding: It's a minimally decorated, newly rehabbed version of the old restaurant that was there before it, only with a new owner, new decor, new menu, you get it. There are large windows all along one side, with a nice view of the adjoining marina. The cheerful waitstaff is punctual and pleasant, and the menu is perfect in that, it is brief enough for simplicity, yet contains a good amount of diverse choices to please most. I had the chicken sandwich, which was huge and nicely seasoned, and Hub had the fish&chips, fresh and crispy. We also shared a rack of ribs, with barbecue sauce that might have been just a tad too thick and rich, considering the tenderness of the perfectly-cooked ribs themselves. We ended off with dessert: I, the banana cheesecake, and Hub the dark chocolate bombe, which were both fresh and flavorful. Although there is a full service bar in the next room, we did not order drinks, so I cannot comment on that aspect, but all in all, the place was pretty nice. We have since returned here several times, always leaving pleased. read more

It's there, just hard to find! The restaurant is located across the, um, creek from downtown Catskill, behind the local marina. In fact, it's *nearly impossible* to see from the road. From the outside, it doesn't look like much. But they have a great patio looking out over the river and marina, and what looks like a fairly popular bar hangout for locals. If you have a boat, you could easily pull in and walk over. And the food - the food is great. I had crab cakes (house made, really good), the steak special (new york strip w/ buffalo bleu cheese; works well!), and a dessert special (vanilla bean creme brulee cheesecake). Fairly standard beer selection, although they do have a locally brewed 'Creekside Ale' that was pretty decent. The downside: the service was glacially slow. I think they were short a server or something, because it wasn't full and it was still taking forever. At least the waitress was friendly, and apologetic, and the kitchen got everything right. It was teling that nobody around me seemed to be complaining; the food was worth the wait. If they get the service sorted out and, I don't know, maybe put a SIGN out on the road or something, this place could be great. read more

Drove over from Kinderhook w friends we meet qtrly for dinner.They chose Creekside Restaurant.Having never been here,but heard good things about was surprised over location and appearance.Nice interior.sat by window looking out over creek.Soft rain started to fall.We had great meals.Wife ordered Chicken Marsala,i the Broiled seafood platter.My seafood was cooked to perfection.Wife loved the peppercorn ranch dressing for salads as was freshly made.Party of 4 with drinks was approx. $95.00.Friends both ordered fried haddock dinner.All enjoyed and will definitely make a return trip in near future. read more

I have dined here on a regular basis for many years. The food has always been consistently good, and they have a nice selection of entree salads. Setting is nice -- in warmer weather you can sit outside, overlooking the Catskill Creek. However, the service has often been somewhat haphazard and sloppy. Went in yesterday for lunch. The place had a few tables occupied. We identified the table we desired and asked the waitress (who was approaching a nearby table with menus for a party of 4 that were already seated), if we could sit there and she said yes. We heard her take the beverage order for the party of 4 and then she disappeared. We waited over 10 minutes, she hadn't returned. No menu, no beverage order, not even a glass of water. There is another waterfront establishment close by (less than 5 minutes away) on the other side of the creek. We decided that we'd be better off going to the other establishment. (To be noted, as we were heading down the outside path back to the parking area, the waitress was inside the restaurant and heading towards the patio with a tray of beverages. It will be a long while before I return to Creekside. (Which we did and had wonderful, outstanding, attentive service with a great meal.) read more

We came to Creekside primarily because we wanted to have lunch near the water ... any water. We had come over from Ghent, hoping to enjoy a beautiful late-Spring sunny day, dining outdoors. I am very glad we made the trip over the bridge, Creekside was well worth the travel. We arrived after 1PM and were able to snag a table overlooking the little marina nearby the restaurant. The food, (I had the cold Thai noodle app and an Asian Salad, my wife had the fried seafood platter) was very good. The beer (Stella) and the Pinot Grigio wine, were nice and cold and perfect for the atmosphere. The prices were very reasonable and the food certainly worth the 40 minute drive. The only issue was service, which was slow. However, in our server's defense, I think a server had called out sick, so they were short-handed. At any rate, if you're in the general area and would like a nice lunch, al fresco on the water, I'd highly recommend the Creekside. read more

There was a raucous nearby table--with lots of loudmouthed people. So, naturally, our orders were put on hold. The waiter kept telling us. Another few minutes. I've been twice. The first time, a few friends and I went for wings and a beer. The atmosphere in the bar area was casual and friendly and the waitress was great. The regular wings were good but the boneless wings were a little dry. The second time we were seated outside for an early dinner. We ordered chowder that they didn't have, and lobster roll that they don't have either so we had to pick something else. The food was ok once we picked something else. It took an hour to get our appetizers, 2 orders of wings and an order of shrimp cocktail. And another 30 mins to get our dinner. This is a small out of the way place. It seemed the bar tender/waitress was very overworked with a full bar to take care of and 4-5 tables. It is a shame because she was very nice. The food was spectacular, or at least my Garlicky Sirloin open faced sandwich was. Tender and garlicky! I order French onion soup as well, however it came out with my meal? Why? It also is clearly canned and tasteless. Too bad the soup and slow service ruined an otherwise great meal. read more

When the cook walk past I informed him that meal was poor and he said oh well sorry we kept walking to the men's room with no regard. We went there today for a place to stop on a Saturday drive and had read reviews beforehand. What a really great lunch. The crab cakes were probably the best we've ever had. All crab and no fillers just like promised on the menu. The fried shrimp arrived five of the largest and most perfectly battered we've ever seen. I ordered the Thai cold sesame noodles with peanut sauce appetizer as a main dish and it was excellent. Fresh ingredients and plenty large enough as a meal. The prices were reasonable. The outside seating was well done with comfortable metal seating and cloth napkins. The service was also friendly, attentive and efficient. A real find of a place well worth seeking out. read more
