She is part of the winery and comes to great you at your car. What great service! The inside of the winery is very simple and cute. They have a big patio to sit outside with your drinks. I will say, I am usually a sweet wine person and we were told there were no sweet wines at this facility. Nonetheless, we did a wine flight just to try! The wines were very smooth, none were really my taste though. Again, preferring sweet wine this was a bit to adjust to. However, my family who got red wines and actually like red wines loved it! The star of the show for me was actually a peach cider they have! I usually don't like ciders either, but this one was so delicious and refreshing! I wish I had just got a couple of those. Overall, service and everything was great! The man was very knowledgeable and friendly. Noe was an exciting part of the experience. And the cider was so amazing! The wine maker must be a good babysitter to this process." -- Jerry Ross So working and living in the area of Morgan Hill I have recently seen a bunch of signs popping up directing drivers to Morgan Hill's newest winery: Ross Vineyards. Turns out there are 50+ signs all about the area so after hiking Uvas Canyon, I saw a couple more and had to stop in. The Winery is situated on a Hill overlooking Chesebro Reservoir. The vineyard and winery are located on the site of the historic Coffe Ranch whose original owner Joseph Coffe came to the United States from France in 1870 and five years later Mr. Coffee founded The Wine Depot Winery in San Jose. The family lived and farmed on the 300-acre ranch along Llagas Creek in Morgan Hill for three generations the Coffe and cultivated 50 acres of vineyards. The original ranch buildings and farming/winery equipment are still at Ross Vineyards and it was a kick today tasting in the historic barn filled with antiques and photos. Jerry Ross is quite a character and is the main reason for the 5 stars. He was a non-stop story teller, with a Bud of all things, while his grandson was pouring wine and his wife Judy encouraged everyone to sit down and eat the hot dogs and beans that were prepared (I had a dog with the homemade beans. Very good). Jerry was a home winemaker starting in the late 90's and the winery was bonded in 2005. The tasting room opened in May, 2013 and it is a must-visit in the area for the views, the ambiance and the awesome vibes one gets from the Ross's. Married 50 years, this is how wine tasting should be: fun and unpretentious!!! (Here is what my 8 readers are waiting for) None of that fussy stuffiness and overblown pretentious nouveau-riche chateau you find at The Winery That Shall Not Be Named (although we usually do). A messy ranch with rental homes, a tasting room in a historic barn, hot dogs and beans from a crockpot and a funny dog knocking a balloon into the air with his nose until it pops. The winery sells only red wines, grown on Ross Hill Vineyard which is above the tasting barn, and they include Cabernet, Merlot, Barbera, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Petit Syrah, Mourvedre, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Grenache, Syrah, and Zinfandel. I enjoyed the 2007 Tempranillo very much and bought two bottles. The other wines were good to very good and I think you will be surprised at the quality. Ross Hill Vineyard is two acres and the winery makes 14 barrels of wine a year. Most of the wines sell for between $20 to $25 So get away from snooty wineries (Hmmm, which one one comes to mind? Oh I remember...) where just getting a cracker, much less a taste, becomes an exercise in civil disobedience. Come out here in the beautiful backcountry of Morgan Hill and let the Ross's, on the 1st and 3rd weekend of every month, show you some true Santa Clara Valley hospitality. Highly recommended!

In terms of drinks, we usually order the sangria to share as @ least one of the options. Then we usually play some bocce ball as well. It is actually perfect for a double date and have a game of 2v2. If that doesn't float your boat, there's also a spot to play bean bag toss as well. You'll need to ask the staff for all the playing equipment though. But don't worry there isn't any additional charge. :) I definitely recommend this winery if you happen to be close-by. Or if you just want a change of scenery. Or maybe you like friendly competition to pave the road to become a bocce world champ. Or you might just be tired of your daily pickleballing. Then, please feel free to intentionally drive over. :)

The wine tasting menu is a very nice experience. You can do the tasting inside or on the open patio. The outdoor seating is perfect with views of the vineyards and features a small stage for live music. This place has a great sense of community and is quite intimate. It seems like everyone knows each other and has the winery membership. Plus, this winery is dog friendly and permits outside snacks to be brought in. If I were local to the area, I would definitely frequent this lovely hidden gem!

First time back in over 6 months they did not bring us a menu, did not tell us what we were tasting and that was not a good feeling. On out third pour same day- fist day back we were accused of trying to get an extra pour Aaron asked what pour we were on, we didn't have a response because we didn't have the menu, we were accused of getting any extra pour? Not our responsibility to keep track, and if you did an extra pour what is the big deal? The comment made us feel uncomfortable, we stayed and purchased a bottle from their reserved red wine. This Saturday we went with another couple and my granddaughter. All was fine untill our third pour, we paid extra for the reserved tasting and it was a splash not a tasting pour. We discussed if we should say anything at all, and we decided to ask for a decent pour. My husband went in , talked to Aaron, he declined and dismissed us. Aaron said we had a decent pour, even though he was not around to see what was poured?? Typically a winery allows more than the 4 or 5 tasting, how else will you know if you like it enough to purchase a bottle. If a winery treats members that way it's time to end membership, and we did. Staff is like family at S V, we got the cold shoulder once my husband spoke with Aaron. We paid for our tasting, tipped our server. We will not revisit this establishment again. They had a good amount of seating in each area, and had a lot of shade outside, which is absolutely necessary in Gilroy. The patio and grass area was very pretty, filled with lots of plants and even a sculpture. The property is also next to a plant nursery, so that added to the beauty even beyond their property line. We were helped by Melissa, and she was great! They had two tasting flights of 4 wines to choose from on our visit, one of which included a white and reds, while the other was all reds. They did also have some extra bottles open, so they were able to make an all white wine flight for one in our party. The pours were a good size, enough to really get a feel for the wine and share a taste with others. Two of us ended up taking home the same bottle of pinot noir.

The beautiful home and landscape are very well kept, and the winery itself is a cozy little spot nestled along the hillside. Prior to visiting, my friend kindly called about two weeks in advance to ask permission to take her graduation photos there so we wouldn't be imposing on their property. We were told it would be perfectly fine as long as we purchased a bottle of wine, which we happily agreed to. Unfortunately, upon arriving, our experience was disappointing. The woman working in the tasting room came across as very cold and unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. She repeatedly questioned us about taking photos and stated there was a $250 insurance charge required for photography on the property. When we explained that permission had already been given over the phone, she simply responded with "okay" before ringing me up for a $49 bottle of wine. What was most disappointing was the lack of kindness and professionalism. I was genuinely excited to visit this winery and support the business, but the uncomfortable interaction completely changed my perspective on the location. Hospitality goes a long way in the winery industry, and unfortunately, we did not feel welcomed here at all. Such a beautiful property, but sadly the customer service experience left a lasting impression, and not in a positive way.

A friend of mine goes to these things all the time up in SJ so I agreed to join him and we had a great time. Tried different ciders over the season and actually had many that we liked. I also had a pretty long conversation with the owner about brewing cider as I've tried making my own with apples from the tree in my backyard. He turned out to be a really nice guy. So I think I was wrong in my original review of Ten Five One Cider.

The family literally hosts customers in their (very large and beautiful) backyard. Plenty of shade and places to sit. We were greeted and seated quickly despite being early for our reservation. I liked that there were many different types of ciders to pick from, so I opted for a flight. My favorites were Bada Bing (Cherry infused) and apple pie (literally tastes like pie). I also shared a cider slushy with my mom and it was delicious. I recommend following them on Instagram, since they are only open for tastings on certain weekends of each month. They are also open on some Thursdays as well.
