We visited this ice cream shop and, although there were a few people in the store when we arrived, we were greeted right away by Simon with a friendly smile and welcome. There were so many unique and delicious flavours to choose from, and we were able to sample up to two flavours before deciding. I chose the Guava Cheesecake, and it was amazing! The best part for me is that I have a nut allergy, and I felt comfortable eating here. Simon explained that they use separate scoops for ice creams containing nuts, vegan ice creams, and dairy ice creams, which helps reduce the risk of cross-contamination. That extra level of care really stood out and made the experience stress-free. The music created a fun, upbeat atmosphere. limited seating inside and more space outside, but it was still a nice place to enjoy our treats. So many places on Hastings St. to get ice cream from. It was a difficult choice but for this day we finally decided on Crema Ice cream. They have some wonderfully unique flavors like Matcha Strawberry Fog and Yuzu Black Tea Sorbet. There's a sign in there that says you can sample up to two different flavors. Kinda kicking myself for not having taken advantage of that offer. I like the options for ordering. For example, there's single scoop but there's also kids sizes so one could could order a kids' sized double scoop where the scoop sizes would be smaller which would enable one to try more flavors without over filling the stomach. They also have flights which is supposed to be 4 kid sized scoops of ice cream in a rectangular sized box. I was very tempted to get a flight and share it with my daughter but we were both feeling quite full already from lunch and decided to be more conservative with the amount of ice cream we were ordering, so we each ordered just one scoop each. My daughter had the Wild Chocolate Chip Mint and I had the Horchata. My daughter was expecting the tingly kind of mint flavor that one gets from putting mint extract into something but this mint was more of a natural mint flavoring that you would get from using actual mint leaves. It wasn't a bad flavor and in fact for some it might even be considered a better version of Chocolate Chip Mint but it wasn't quite what she was expecting. She would have preferred the usual kind of mint that tingles more. I enjoyed my Horchata ice cream but I think I like the actual drink more than I liked this ice cream. Tried a tiny scoop of our friend's Matcha Strawberry Fog and loved that. That was one of the flavors I'd been eyeing myself and I kinda wished I'd gotten that flavor instead of Horchata. Finally dropped by as it was early in the day with no line up! Location easy to get to, plenty of transit options and nearby parking. Spot is small, however clean and nicely lit. Lots of flavor options, staff was also very friendly - You are allowed up to two sample spoons, if you are having a challenge deciding. Had a strawberry matcha, the strawberry tasted like streaks of strawberry jam, so wasn't really stand out - matcha was definitely dominant, which is fine. One thing that was a miss for me, the A-Frame sign outside, didn't reflect the flavours available - they didn't mark off the sold outs, or unavailable ones, so got rejected a few times, when asking for things off of it. Revisited Crema ice cream to try Hot chocolate festival limited item. Chocoflan dream - Secret recipe dark hot chocolate topped with brulee flan cold form. What a hidden gem tucked away in Burnaby! They had a huge selection of unique flavours!! Got the ube tres leches flan and my friend got a hojicha blackberry! I loved the my ube scoop, and my friend's hojicha blackberry had a great contrast in a little earthy hojicha alongside a tart blackberry! Finally got to try Crema Ice Cream that just opened this summer at their North Burnaby location. Right now its October and they have their October flavours and Halloween specials going on right now. We arrived just a little after 2 PM with zero line up. We were greeted and was offered to try samples. We got to taste test the Peaches and Corn, Viet Rocky Road as well as the Cafe con Leche. With about 20 different flavours you can't go wrong. We ended up with a Peaches and Corn Milk Shake and the super cute Halloween Special: Deadly Ube Sundae. They put a lot of care into their creations. Including the candy eyeball and even putting the faces on the ghosts around the cup. I do love the black sesame cream on top as well as the dark chocolate sauce around the cup. Ube ice cream was delightful, too bad its not on their menu year round. But if you are interested in their seasonal flavours check out their Instagram. They have unique and fantastic flavours you'd never heard or dreamed of. We love supporting small and local businesses, so if you're in the area go Crema Ice Cream a try! It gets crazy busy in the summer and in the evenings. We came at around 1pm on a Saturday. There was no one inside when we got there but lots of people when we left. There's no where to sit inside and only one bench across the way We got the Ube and the Mango Passionfruit. Only get the mango passionfruit sorbet if you really like sour ice cream. The shop is small so there is a bit of a lineup but they try to minimize wait times by limiting samples to 2 flavours. Service is friendly and each staff member will help 1 group at a time. At first I liked the pisco sour, which is a lime sorbet infused with Peruvian pisco and contains 1.4% alcohol. I got a cone of this and it became too sour. I'm incredibly happy to see Crema with a storefront now! They have so many unique flavours, inspired by the owners' Asian and Latin heritage, and you really get to admire the range they've come up with inside their brick and mortar shop. However, there's a 2 sample limit (likely to keep things moving as there's limited space inside). On my first visit, I got the guava cheesecake, which was a July feature. I went back to try the strawberry matcha fog after seeing how popular it was on social media. While I enjoyed both, I personally liked guava cheesecake more because of the tanginess and the mix-in of Maria cookie crumbs (I love mix-ins because they provide different textures!). The strawberry matcha fog is also yummy, but I thought the tea flavours overshadowed the strawberry a little bit. Staff allowed customers to try a number of samples and there did not seem to be any sample limits. Consequently, the line up was long because of the time it took for people to sample and to decide on which flavours to buy.
