The food gets FIVE stars though. We have never had a bad meal here and the portions are good sized. They have both American and Mexican food items and we have tried many different things from both sides of the menu, all delicious. I was excited to try this place in part to the huge sign in the window that read "voted one of Riverside's top 25 restaurants." I came here on a Saturday around noon and was surprised it was not crowded. I waited a little under 10 minutes for someone to ask me if I had been helped. This was after many people walked by me. I'll put it super simple. The food here is terrible! I decided to take my family out for a dinner Monday night at our favorite restaurant La Posada which is located next door. Unfortunately we found out it was closed Mondays so we decided to give this place a try. This had to be the worst Mexican food I've ever had. To make matters worse the pricing is the same as our favorite restaurant next door. That means it was $50 dollars for something that was unedible. I've never written a review on yelp but I felt it was my civic duty to do so in this matter. I feel violated and taken advantage of because of the fact that I agreed to even pay. I love this place. I have only been here for lunch but I always leave very satisfied. I have never had a mediocre meal here. They have daily specials which are primarily Mexican dishes, but the day I ordered a special, it was Italian. I had spaghetti and eggplant parmesan which was very tasty. Their meals are reasonably priced for lunch time and the portions are not huge but you could definitely save half for later. Their chicken sandwich with avocado and bacon is great, the spaghetti as well and their tuna melt fabulous. The wait staff is friendly and I like that there is indoor and outdoor seating. Only come here if you want to be ignored so long you leave! My husband and I were browsing around the plaza and we thought we'd give this place a try. We walk inside and there's no one there at the front to greet us. Okay, no biggie, but do we seat ourselves, do we wait to be seated? There's no sign, so we're both unsure. We wait a few minutes until we finally see a waitress. My husband asks her if we are able to seat ourselves, she tells him that we need to wait to be seated. Okay cool. We wait, thinking surely the waitress we just spoke with, or the other one we see walking around will be with us shortly. The place is near dead, only a few tables and one person at the bar. A few more minutes pass and the second waitress seems to be grabbing something for one of her tables and sort of glances at us, no acknowledgement or "I'll be with you shortly!" Not even a smile really. Once she done with the guest she was grabbing something for she continues to walk around more and not towards us.... So that's about when my husband and I have had about enough of being ignored and decide to try somewhere else. I recommend the Pepitos just around the corner instead! I come here pretty often whenever I'm in the mood to treat myself to a lunch/dinner. Usually I order a burger, sandwich or some pasta and the food is mediocre, nothing spectacular. However, one occasion I had went to get something small and ordered chicken strips appetizer and asked for some soup and garlic bread since their chicken tortilla soup is usually so good. However, the waitress misheard me and only came back with half-burnt garlic bread. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I wanted soup too so I just ate it in defeat with my chicken strips. Those chicken strips are the equivalent of Tyson's brand chicken strips and tasted like chicken flavored dish sponge. Like I said, mediocre food. But service isn't too terrible, none of the servers I had are very personable which is okay since I go out and eat solo most of the time anyways. Wish that there was a consistent host in the front since coming in can be a little awkward and a bit of a wait. Let me start by saying the breakfast is always good. This review has to do with how clean things are. The ceiling fans and lights need to be cleaned bad. The happy hour sign is in tarible shape. The shelves above the bar are dirty. Last but not least the table by the door is always left open and let's a bad breaze through. All these things are easily solved. I hope you do something about it. I've never liked this place but it's convenient to work and home and so I've gone every so often when others want to go but today was the last straw. My family and I went for breakfast and the service was AWFUL. We sat outside waiting for them to take our order for 20 mins and when I finally went inside to find someone and tell them we STILL waited another 15 mins! It wasn't even insanely busy. Worst experience I have EVER had at a food establishment!! FYI: THEY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THE DISABLED!! I am a disabled/retired Navy Veteran and I decided to stop in for an early dinner yesterday. I walked in behind two ladies, and before the man who was apparently greeting/seating people acknowledged them he immediately and sarcastically said to me; "We don't allow dogs, you will have to go around back." I calmly said back; "She is a service dog." and just as a side note she was wearing a bright red service animal vest and I had clearly displayed both her service animal picture ID and her service patch. I was wearing her picture ID on my collar. He snapped back to me so rudely and loudly the whole front of the room (including the ladies in front of me) heard him; "A service dog? Oh yeah right!". I was shocked, embarrassed and angry. I politely said; " That's fine I think I will take my business elsewhere (as through body language he proceeded to act as if I was some kind of lunatic), and we will not be coming back." The ladies in front of me stood there staring, shocked and the rude waiter just stood there exasperated as we walked out (yes myself and my two daughters). No one came out after me to apologize despite half the place hearing the whole episode. So glad I left and we will IN FACT NEVER BE COMING BACK. If you can't serve a DISABLED VETERAN in a polite way (as you are legally required by law to do), then I will certainly be happy to tell the community how you treat DISABLED VETERANS. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED SO POORLY IN MY LIFE. ALL I CAN SAY IS I HOPE THE WAY THEY TREATED ME WILL TURN INTO THE KIND OF BUSINESS KARMA THEY DESERVE. read more

My wife had the grilled chicken salad, which came with an entire large chicken breast grilled to perfection. It also came with two large pieces of garlic bread. Gross with a capital G. Upon walking in, there is a display case of desserts I guess. They are all either wrapped in plastic or on a plate covered in plastic wrap. I hope no one ever orders these, the items on plates were sitting in a pool of liquid. The place has not been dusted in YEARS. We were sat in a booth with a not very clean table. I notice a weird smell when I leaned back and noticed that the upholstered backing stunk. I didn't want to order anything really so I just got a side of breakfast potatoes. Definitely a waste of money. The potatoes were not seasoned in any way and like another reviewer says, probably cooked in old oil. There were green bell peppers and onions on top ...obviously put on afterwards because the potatoes were bland and tasted like cardboard. I cringe at the thought of what's going on in the kitchen. Ate at the Crest twice in the last ten days. Both times it was a disappointment. First was Easter Sunday morning brunch. I ordered a Denver Omelet thinking most Denver Omelets have no cheese. This Denver omelet was awash in cheese and not much of the other stuff that makes up a Denver omelet. Also ordered and drank two Bloody Marys. They both tasted delicious but they did not have any detectable alcohol in them...what fun is that?. Today I had lunch there and ordered their chicken taco special (2 chicken tacos, rice and beans) and an ice tea. The tacos came with so little chicken I actually took one apart to make sure it really had some chicken on it. It did but really really skimpy. It was mostly lettuce and a salsa of sorts. The shell was cooked way overdone but still palatable. Basically they tasted very bland and I was sorry I ordered them. The Rice and beans were just so-so but palatable. The ice tea tasted like colored water and not ice tea and was never refilled (maybe a good thing). The service was fine or I would have given it one star. I've been to this place several times over the years and have never really liked the food. I guess I'm a slow learner but I think this trip was the coup de gras. read more

Sitting here at the crest cafe having breakfast. Been here several times now for lunch too. Food is absolutely delicious. Place is clean and quaint. It has covered patio seating as well. I rarely order anything that requires syrup as I don't like cold or room temp syrup. Today though I ordered something that included French Toast if which was nice and fluffy and to my surprise the two syrups brought to the table were hot. Oh my happy day. I really wanted to like this place after hearing the food is good from friends. We ate here at 2:00 on a sunday and it was pretty empty. We didn't know breakfast wasn't served all day so we were sad. While our sandwiches were mediocre, the service and morale of the employees made me not want to return. I didn't appreciate the cleaning and excessive sweeping around where we were eating. Also, the waitstaff seemed so resentful towards their jobs and were more concerned about their own conversations. While it didn't take long for the food to come out, our waitress took forever to give us the check, check on us, etc. Especially since the place was dead empty. The vibes from the wait staff were very indifferent and they didn't really care about what was going on.
