I can't say enough good things about CB irl, but I will attempt to put it all on the record here. This establishment hits all the marks for me. I love the repurposed building first and foremost. It was once a poppin furniture store. Or so the story goes. Then it was an empty space in the once desolate, but now up-and-coming Creston area. So of course being a former furniture store, it's very spacious, with a neat vintage look, large showroom windows with lots of refreshing natural light and neat large potted plants galore. A very successful repurposing. The spaciousness and ambience make it a fantastic place to bring large groups to. They also have a stage for their regular music, comedy and what-have-you events. Ive seen a few shows there, always lovely and intimate. As for the food, Ive loved everything Ive had there. They have a smallish menu with a lot of well-executed fusion'y items, many unique items to set them apart from their competitors, but all the dishes Ive had were well-executed, well-rounded, super flavorful, filling. Just all around fantastic options. The kind of food I don't mind paying a little extra for. And an equally top-notch service team! About the beer: Im not a beer maniac (I know, what a shame living here in Beer City USA!), but I always get this one beer here that has hints of lavender and honey and its an IPA I believe...and it's probably my favorite beer ever. Im not going to get beer snobby on you, because i dont know the lingo that well and i dont experiment with craft beer very much. But the one lavendery beer i always get here is amazing and if i had to choose one beer for the rest of my life it'd either be that one or Perrin's grapefruit IPA. Anyway CB is dope af and I need to remind myself to go there more often. I know they have trivia nights and other fun activities that I know I would love. I wanted to update my review because quite a few things have changed since my last one. First, they made some changes to the menu. Specifically, they removed most of the items I really liked. Gone are the pork belly enchiladas, and their best appetizer, tortilla chips with your choice of dips (queso, black beans, guacamole, humus) are gone as well. Instead, they now have more burgers and wraps. I am not sure why they made these changes and would have been willing to pay more for these items if pricing was the issue. Honestly, I liked the more Latin menu choices, now they have similar to most other restaurants in the area, which doesn't help them stand out as much. The food they have is fine, but won't blow you away. Additionally, their service continues to be very inconsistent. Usually they only have 2-3 waiters regardless of how busy it is. Waiters wear no distinguishing stuff, so it can be hard to tell at times who the waiters actually are. Service is also painfully slow at times, like 40 minutes for food slow. And this is even when the place is only at 50% capacity. I do like their frequent events and live music. However, for some reason they have still not invested in any sort of sound dampening panels. If the band playing is loud it is likely you will suffer ear damage without plugs and it is impossible to have a conversation with someone who is next to you. All that being said, their beer is always very good, they have a variety of bands and events, and the community feel of the place is great. I just wish they would address their inconsistent service, menu and sound management. I really want to like Creston Brewery, but find myself coming less because of those changes. read more

With family in town recently we decided to visit Creston for some liquid refreshment and light fare. It was our first time and we truly enjoyed the experience. I enjoyed the venue. I'd call it rich in character. Just a neat layout. We were there around 8pm and the place was 3/4 full. Good feel. We did flights and ordered some appetizers: Caddywhompus Quesadilla, deviled eggs and tuscan fries. All were delicious, and quickly devoured. The beer was excellent - and served up on vinyl! So I can get beer, food, and come here and play board/card games? Do I need to sign up? Sign me up! Nice big open space, lots of cool wood everywhere and lots of windows! So much natural light. There was an area roped off in the back for the game night (which is on Monday's) and we sat there, planning for our group of 12. They have cool food specials if you're there to game, so ask. We ordered chips and salsa and were told after that they would be free since they were on the game night specials! I never did see/hear the full list of discounted items so you'll want to ask. The chips were good, lots of salsas to choose from... Mild, no spice options like cucumber salsa, to more fiery options with spicy peppers and such. We went for the no spice as my girlfriend is not a fan of spicy. It was sweet and like the cucumber salad, you get at a Thai place. Not really salsa, but it was spice free as advertised. She had told me this place was amazing for their guacamole and tacos. Turns out they took both off the menu as I guess they are going in another food direction...not sure what that direction is. Away from the stuff people liked? Maybe... We opted for a cobb salad. It was pretty measly, some of the lettuce was brown, and it just was very underwhelming. We really wanted tacos and guac anyway. We tried two flights. They come on a cool record with holes in it. The beers I had were all okay, nothing blew me away. The service was great and our server was super attentive to our large group and very accommodating. She easily split the bill for each couple and we never had to mess with figuring out who owes what. Huge props for showing that it can be done! The board game night was great. We played a card game called Sabetour which was perfect for our large group. We drank beer, snacked, laughed, and had fun. I really want to be able to give this place more stars, unfortunately they need to work on their service. When we first arrived, we were greeted immediately and sat, we decided to sit outside because it was beautiful! Our waitress was extremely nice and happy, which was a treat. She took our drink order and brought them pretty quickly. But when it came to food delivery it took much longer than needed. We couldn't decide what we wanted to order because everything on the menu sounded so tasty! We ended up ordering the nachos, the quesadilla, the tuna, a side of the potato salad, and we each got a house salad with the poblano ranch. If I were eating this brewery solely on the food quality it would get 5 stars hands down! We were not disappointed in any of the choices. I would choose every item again and again, and I'm excited to go back and try other items. We got finished eating and had many leftovers so our waitress brought us boxes, but for some reason failed to bring us our check along with it. We sat there for about 20 minutes before she realized our check had not been given to us. I've waited tables in the past and even I know that you bring the check with the boxes. No one wants to sit there wonderingly. It's awkward! To sum it up, I will definitely be going back. Just make sure you aren't in a hurry when you stop in. Normally I take pictures of the food. The website has pictures. This tile, I was too busy eating it. The beef brisket was awesome. The lo mien was gone so fast that there was no time for images. The buffalo chicken wrap had no complaints from mu husband which is bigger than a compliment from anyone else. They had a freestyle tribal music group that at first we were not into, too loud to talk, but they had rhythm and style that grew on us. Hubby took his hearing aid off, son was involuntarily moving to the beat. No wait, outside seats were full, and quieter, but inside many people were enjoying the music which turned into a customer joined jam fest. I have been going to Creston Brewery for years , well before Saugatuck Brewery bought them. The outdoor space is nice especially for families with the picnic table option. I had the Rainbow Rodeo IPA and it was fabulous. The food was exceptional. My husband and I both had the Nashville chicken sandwich with fries and I thought it was the BEST Nashville chicken I have ever had, and I typically get this sandwich when we go out. The chicken is so crispy, juicy and tender. Our server, Charlie, was really attentive and awesome. He was working very hard covering tables both inside and outside and handled everything so well. The food and beer came out fast and correctly (we had a few special requests). I am so happy we decided to visit an old friend and will be back for sure. Go check them out!! This is open now! We found out by accident on Friday after work. This was exactly what we needed. The place is huge. The seat is really unique. Super sized booths and a lot of them. I liked the set up. It was open and energetic! Mandy was the perfect end to a crazy week. I'm not much of a beer lover, but I enjoyed everything she offered to my liking after a series of questions. We had one disappointing item from the menu and I'm not reviewing that this time. The manager took care of the situation immediately and that for me is 5 stars all the way. They just opened and were doing what they needed to do in order to make it a successful evening. I enjoyed the Kung Pao pork wings so much. Very unique menu item- get those! I stopped in today to get some grub before heading to work and I was very pleased with everything from the atmosphere of the space to the food and beer all the way to the service and engaging conversation!! This was our second visit to Creston Brewery, our first time was in the fall. We were pleasantly surprised the first time we visited by the decor and general vibe of the brewery. It isn't your typical brewery you see popping up, it had a fun retro vibe! The music they play is old school and fun! We feel the beer has improved since the last time we were in. I had a flight and really liked all the beers I sampled. The first time around, i wasn't impressed. So, we can officially say we are fans of the beer! I tried OLMEC, Quimby, Log Jam- not nitro, and Braveheart2. I ended up getting 2 glasses of Braveheart2 - SO good! Not sure what my husband had, but he liked it! He got the nachos- generous portion.. definitely good for 1 person. Only complaint was the lack of seasoning on the pulled pork. I got the pork belly enchiladas- i was fighting a sinus infection so my taste buds were a little weak. It had some nice spice to it, and i thought the flavors were unique and interesting. This brewery has a very neighborhood coffee shop cozy feel. It's a big space and can get somewhat noisy when full but doesn't feel overwhelming due to the low key comfort atmosphere created by things such as letting the servers wear their own clothes. The beer selection is broad with both palatable and more unique beers. The fries are very very good. My sandwich was a normal sandwich. One and only time I've been here and I probably won't be back. I've been wanting to come here for awhile now and we decided to go for a Sunday brunch. My son ordered the buffalo chicken wraps. I ordered simple breakfast, and my wife ordered the BLT and tots. A few minutes after we ordered, they came back and said they didn't have fried chicken for the wrap. My sone then ordered the same as my wife. Pretty simple orders and it took forever to actually get the food. The place was busy, but not overly so that it should take that long to get the food. The tots were good. The bacon all around, as my came with it as well, was under cooked in my opinion. I tasted more fat than meat. Everyone at the table agreed. My potatoes were good, but had an unusual taste. Not a bad taste, just different. Overall the food wasn't bad, just not as good as I was hoping for. The service was slow. It even took awhile to pay. Some hiccups but with a little time, I could see it becoming a favorite of mine on this side of town. Positive: Cool old building- it used to be an old Furnature showroom. Large dining space- lots of seat yourself tables Decor/vibe is chill, low key. It almost felt like a southern porch with the light streaming in from the floor-to-ceiling windows, and plants scattered around Creative sampler tray- made from an old record! Mediocre: The beers- lighter then I like. There was two or three offerings that had a coffee taste. Not sure why a place needs that many coffee beers but actually, they happened to be the only ones I liked. Negative: As others said, slow service. Server appeared for a second to take our order, was supremely put out that she had to answer our beer questions, and then disappeared. She never introduced herself and never said thank you for stopping by, two small things that may have changed my view of her. Our beers took 15-20 minutes to arrive on what appeared to be a moderately busy Saturday night. Our companions who don't often go downtown in the evening for drinks, were appalled at that kind of wait. As frequent night owls, we found the wait annoying but not all together unexpected. Did not have: The food. - but the Mexican food sounded good based on the menu This place reminds me of how I felt about Elk Brewing when they first opened. With so many breweries in Grand Rapids opening up over the last 3 years I was skeptical when I walked in. But as soon as we pulled up my preconceptions disappeared. First- there is ample parking. With a small lot behind the building, easy street parking and a lot across the street there are options. When we walked in we were delighted at how light and open the place is. The decor isn't pretentious and fits the neighborhood and the space well. The three words I would use are simple, bright and open. I started with a flight and was delighted at how many "drinkable" beers were on the menu. They have a good mix of IPA's, wheat beers, fruit beers and dark beers. I absolutely loved the beer with the peach flavor, as well as the 3 coffee flavored beers I tried. One coffee beer also had notes of chocolate and grapefruit and Jesus it was good! All the flavors hit at separate times and on different taste buds and it was great! We weren't intending to eat however the menu is stocked with food that suits the beer. We had the pork and beef nachos and they were great. The fresh cilantro really added flavor and freshness. Our service was great and overall I couldn't think of a negative thing to say if I tried. read more

I had the pleasure of checking Creston Brewery on opening day! I arrived around 6pm and it was packed. Even though I hate packed places, I knew this would be the case and loved seeing a grand opening being as such. It is in the corner of a building, with huge windows surrounding the taproom, a large bar, Woosah murals on the walls and loft/industrial like ceilings. Definitely a welcoming atmosphere to grab some drinks, food and hang out awhile. Without too much effort I was able to snag a seat and enjoy a couple flights. Their flights come with four pours. On tap they had eleven beers total. I tried eight of them and have absolutely no complaints. They are all delicious and very drinkable beers. My personal favorites are Blueberry Sweet Street and Peach Clickety Clack. Great summer beers. I am curious to see how the beers shift with the season. I did not try and of the food, but I am excited to come back and do so. A couple people I was with had the chicken empanadas and said they were excellent. The bacon guacamole sounds amazing! They offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options as well. However, I did not see a gluten free beer option. A couple negatives for me: it was really hot in there. I get it, there were a lot of people but the way the sun was coming in through the windows with no blinds was miserable. We were all sweating REALLY bad. Some shades would help significantly. Also it was super loud. I feel like the amount of people in there would be a typical Friday/Saturday night and too me it was too loud. I had to shout at the people at my table to have a conversation. First official day of opening and think they handled a packed house the best they could. My 4 star review first starts with the two great beers i had. The Grale and Fox Deluxe. Solid very well crafted beers. Can't tell you exactly what kind of beers they were because of there odd beer menu that comes with some decoder coaster. That in itself was a huge pain in the butt. I dont want to sit and figure out the hoppines, bitterness, and other styles of beer by using a custom pie chart. Tell me what you have and let me order. The decor was interesting, Miami meets midwest, or upscale Havana meet the British occupation of India. It's somewhat mixed and a bit odd. Very white walls with open space a huge windows and tall ceilings. The building itself is beautiful. Those tall ceiling with painted tin make for very loud acoustics. You could hear the noice level even in the bathrooms. That would keep me from coming back during peak times. We arrived around 9:30 at night and the building was a bit warm. Those beautiful windows and high ceilings probably make it difficult to control the temperatures well. Food menu looked interesting, suprised me a bit. Their take on mexican street food. Tacos, homemade chips and dips, empanadas, and vegetarian options as well. We didnt order anything as they were very busy, but certainly will come back when things settle down. That being said, i feel i can give a better overall review when we revisit and once they have their kinks worked out. I do recommend at least trying it out just based on the good beers we had. Welcome to the neighborhood Creston Brewery. Friday night we popped over about 9pm to check out Grand Rapids latest brewery. It was busy (as I expected) but tables were available and we quickly found seats at the bar. The inside is large and airy. I love the tin ceiling and the almost tea-room vibe. Two things I noticed right away 1) the NOISE, this is easily the loudest brewery I have ever experienced. The bartender had to shout at me and I still missed half of what she said. We had to shout to each other. The noise is deafening. I hope they address it soon with some sort of solution because its awful. 2) it was Hot. With a ton of people, a large space and frequent in and out I can imagine its hard to keep it cool but it was sticky and rather uncomfortable. Once we were established at the bar we looked at the tap list. As another reviewer mentioned it is a little hard to decipher. The beer descriptions lack style and IBUs (2 things I look for first) they are described by a logo code that is found on their coasters. The bartender tried to explain but since I couldn't hear her I ended up pulling up their website to read better descriptions. While ideally this is an interesting and unique way to describe their beer, it takes way way too much time. I don't really want to have to go this many steps to figure out if its something I am interested in trying. We decided on a flight and tried Log Jam, Blueberry Sweet Street, BatmanSupermanStarwars and Quimby. The only one I enjoyed was the blueberry. All the others were pretty hoppy (at least for me) again another instance where IBUs would have been helpful. My husband liked the Quimby. We were excited to try some food but unfortunately they were out of everything except chips and dips. So we split an order of chips and guac with bacon. It was OK. While we were there I also sampled the Sweet Street and The Koala Bear (a blonde coffee ale) The Koala was probably my favorite of the night and I wish I had included it in our original flight. By the time we finished our chips our heads were pounding from the noise and we were tired of yelling at each other so off we went. I expect that we'll come back because we are still interested in the food offerings but hopefully they will have installed something to help absorb the noise. read more

The beers themselves were o.k.-liked how they served the flights in vinyl record stack objects. Service was fine as well. No matter what you choose from the menu, I guarantee that it's going to be a winner! The flavors are amazing, and the quality of the ingredients are top notch. Five stars! Five stars! Five stars! Of all the breweries in the area, Creston is my favorite. Went the first time for a dinner with my parents and brought a bachelorette party there the second. The natural light is to DIE for..also, so are those deviled eggs. A little bit of Lucifer may be in those bad lads; one can not just have one and they are so good they're baddddd. The French onion soup is topped with a slice of cheese. Odd- but not bad! Flavorful and full of onions, makes up for the strange cheese situation. Regardless of shredded or sliced, yummy! The beer selection is vast and they have two house made wines. There's a chai and a blueberry that taste fabulous together. Don't knock it til you try it. His was my first weekend in Grand Rapids going to breweries and I'm so happy with this one. A great crisp and clean atmosphere with some delicious beers. I love this place. The food, beer and environment are fantastic. But just like some of the other reviews though, the service was really lacking tonight. There are some great servers here and generally speaking you can tell everyone believes in the product. I want to give them 5 stars but I can't tonight. I went there with my family as we have many times before. We found an open table and our server told us that he would wipe it down for us. He half heartily flopped his arm around the table a couple of times and seemed to think it was clean, but it was still sticky and dirty. He put the least amount of effort possible throughout the night. After our food was delivered we had to hunt down the silverware at the host station. We asked to add a half order of tots, but those never showed up. The food was great for the most part. They have such great vegetarian options. We got the Eggplant Parmigiana, Curry with jerk tofu and grilled cheese. Really generous portions and fresh flavors. The only negative I would say about the food is my daughter's grilled cheese came with half cooked chips. Oily and soggy. The worst part of this experience is that our server didn't seem to care. It was like we were interrupting him from socializing at the bar with friends, or maybe he just wanted to be anywhere else. When there are soooo many breweries and restaurants in town, why would you risk losing business having workers represent your vision that way? My best suggestion to prospective foodies is this: Take a look at the servers and see how engaged they are with their tables before picking your table at this place. This was a very unique vibe brewery in Grand Rapids. It felt more like a coffee shop than a brewery but we also went at 6pm on a Monday so might be a better vibe on a weekend night! I tried the Pooh Nitro stout which was actually very tasty, it was a honey and lavender blonde nitro but surprisingly great! It was not near anything else to walk to so you would have to make this a destination. By far one of my favorite breweries that we visited in GR! We did a flight of a few of their beers. We tried the Great Log Jam of 1883, Blueberry Sweet St, Bloody Fifth and Concord Harvest. The Blueberry and Grape beers were a pleasant surprise and were full of flavor. The Log Jam was good as well. Bloody Fifth was ok but what made it unique was it smelled like cannabis. Another overated brewery fueled by hipsters and beer snobs. Pros- Southwest egg rolls Cons: service, okay beer Okay Hipsters and beer snobs I get it, it's not cool to go to yesterday's breweries, but for the love of God could you atleast latch onto a place that puts substance over style. All the raving reviews had me stoked to try this place. I had some beers at beer shares that were okay. I just assumed these beers people brought were just the to go options and not specialties. Wrong. Beer- It's okay, another run of the mill place. The competition is getting so fierce one would assume the places getting the praise are differentiating from the pack to get ahead. Nope, they run off of the Hipster hype machine. Put some retro styles in there, cool lighting, maybe a record player or two, some cool decor and it means the place is hip and awesome. The beers were all average and unspectacular. Reading the descriptions I was excited but they all fell flat. Stouts, IPAs, black ale- all were average at best. Service- In the recent trend of the GR brewery tradition, brutally slow. It was busy when we got there but by the time we left was pretty empty and we only had a flight. We waited a good 20 minutes before someone came to our filthy table we sat ourselves at. Then the process of here are your menus, let me get you (forget your) waters, and take the order was another 20. Then 10ish for the beers and appetizer to come. After waiting this long your product better be delicious and it wasn't. We wanted to hang out here for this long (or longer) but after all the wasted time the beer and service didn't warrant our money and patronage. Food: The egg rolls were good. I'd definitely itely order them again if they could lock that process down in 10 minutes instead of an hour. They are a little dry and could do for more than starch and meat. What a surprise! Well priced beer selection. Easy going environment and nice servers. What's great is not having the usual brewery food choices of burgers and fried appetizers. The food is EXCELLENT!
