Old school burger joint famous for their Long Dog. I used to go before they had a brick and mortar store. Used to be a shack at the end of access road. Even then, there was a line out the door at lunch time. Burgers and fries are great, extra tippy are fresh. My favorite things to order. Cheese burger with caramelized onions and chilli dog....if I'm really hongry, a chilli Long dog. THEIR ONION RINGS ARE THE BEST! Fries good too. It's great burger joint and more. A great venue with great views, but toppings need a little bit more pop. Stop two on our epic hotdog trek, and we found this little hot dog spot not too far away from the airport near this marshland. That might not sound nice, but it's a large expanse of flatlands leading to the beach and the ocean. Cricket's is on this little hill overlooking entirety of this expanse, which also overlooks the edges of the ocean. So although it's not really anywhere, it's also looking out everywhere. The view was the most worthwhile thing here at cricket's. The dogs needed a little work. The dogs themselves were treated well, cut open and grilled. the buns grilled and buttered, so all good steps. The toppings were lacking though. the chili on the chili cheese had no real flavor, the works hot dog had a lot of sauerkraut, but that too also didn't have flavor. It was mostly lightly salted cabbage, which is okay but not great. which is a shame, cause the dog was done so well. The toppings were a major detractor though. Overall, it was a good dog but it wasn't anything I would want to make a trek out to. It's great if you're in this area, especially for the view. but it's not a great dog. read more

A bit removed from the maddening crowd, I originally came because it was near a cool Geocache. (Look up the geocache, it's not on the ground) The view is very pretty, but the driveway does come close to the drive through exit so enter with caution. There is a good amount of parking in the lot, and for warmer weather several outdoor eating tables. There are also chairs inside in bar seating at the window. Service is quick and efficient, and menu boards are inside so you can plan your order before reaching the register. Sadly, they now offer Pepsi and not Coke as on the menu. The food, however, is a fun vintage pick me up and the menu prices are fair. You definitely won't feel as though you've wasted anything, time or money. I tried a Longburger with cheese, a burger on a hot dog bun, and it was fun! Taste wasn't surprising, but I feel like I got a piece of Americana. My friend and I popped in to Cricket Car Hop for lunch one weekend and found it to be quite the hidden gem! It's remarkably clean, and they have a great menu. Most importantly, they use Hummel hot dogs, which are my favorite! I made my own hot dog with bacon, onions, and cheese, and my friend ordered the clam strips with waffle fries, which were all delicious. Nestled near Sikorsky Airport in the Lordship section of Stratford, this old fashioned car hop is so much more than burgers and hot dogs. I had heard about this place from friends and from some Facebook advertising. And I never could connect. The pandemic kept things closed for a while but with Little League baseball playoffs at short beach, it was a perfect reason to stop by. I decided to stay traditional hotdogs and fries with a cool soda. Of course, you have to have a bacon and cheese hot dogs for dinner. The other choice was a regular hotdog with MROK for mustard red relish onions and kraut. I called in my order on the way over and found it to be piping hot on arrival. The french fries were perfectly crisp and I had a perfect size portion of catch-up for dipping. All in all, it was great. A few tips, they don't have a traditional drive thru. The drive thru is for picking up orders that are placed on the Internet or on the telephone. If you drive up thinking you're going to talk to someone and order you are going to be in for a surprise. There were plenty of tables outside to enjoy dinner and overlook the salt marsh near Sikorsky airport. The menu is expensive and my order did not even begin to scratch the surface. There are milkshakes, seafood, hamburgers and it would take me four or five trips to plow through the highlights which interest me. Great views since it's on a slight incline. This place reminds me of Danny's drive in. The milkshakes here are so good! I'm a milkshake kind of girl. Today I had their fruity pebbles shake, which I've never tried before! Yum! Tastes like cereal in a bowl. I also had their clam roll! The clam strips were very good and crispy. The owners of the New Cricket have really done a nice job bringing back some old memories from the grilled buns and snappy dogs to the crinkle cut fries done to perfection, complete with wooden fork, everything was just as I remembered it being! They even have an old pinball machine in the corner. If I was to make one suggestion, it would be to have the traditional ketchup and mustard bottles with salt and pepper shakers out at the tables in the nice outdoor dining area.
