When looking for a breakfast place, this little cafe always comes to mind. Last time we went they added a $3 charge for an extra plate. My kids shared a meal and I had to pay a charge for a freaking plate! Your kids menus are not as complete as a full meal, I don't just want a pancake or just 1 egg. I was kinda worried when I drove up and there wasn't a car in sight. But, I did show up at an odd time. It wasn't breakfast, brunch, or lunch time, more of a "I'm hungry in the middle of the day because I skipped breakfast" kinda meal. So I decided to ignore the vacant parking lot and brave the empty diner alone. The restaurant was very clean, the staff was very welcoming and friendly, and the food was very good! I ended up having the SOS hash browns (which the server explained was a hamburger gravy served over hash, but you could order it on the side too). I usually order a side of gravy to pour over my hash browns anyways, so I was quite pleased with this. I also ordered a side of their pancakes, which ended up being pretty darn tasty. Aloha Omlet, Apple Fritter. I had eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy along with a scone. $.79 extra for a tiny cup of honey? Trying to modify anything on the menu is pretty much a bust. If you want to change anything be ready to pay for it. Not sure if they charge extra for all condiments, but I wanted honey on the giant scone & it cost me 79 cents for what amounted to a tablespoon. Crazy if you ask me. I guess the bottom line is, the menu items aren't many & only one came close to what I wanted. The scones are probably the best part of the meal. The Aloha Omlet was stuffed with filling that proved to have ham & cheese as well as pineapple in every bite. The eggs, were average. The biscuits & gravy were a bit bland. The sausage was an unflavored piece of meat. The Apple Fritter wasn't crispy like it should have been. The taste was fine but a really good fritter has a crispy crust. The service was satisfactory. What a fantastic find! I'm not up in this neck of the woods often let alone in the morning. Criddle's looks unimpressive from the outside but inside it's clean and the staff are very friendly. Gives off a hometown cafe type of feel. The food is quick, simple and good. The gravy has decent flavor to it and like everything else there, homemade. Bacon is thick and cooked the way you like it. My roommates and I were on our way to Oregon from Wyoming and needed a pit-stop for a quick meal. Upon our arrival we were immediately enchanted by everything about the place: employees, decor, and of course the food. My my my the food. We ordered The Boss Breakfast, The Hawaiian Omelette, and the Vegetarian Omelette between the three of us and within 5 minutes after ordering we had our food delivered to us with a bright and loving smile by our lovely waitress. All three of us couldn't stop ranting about how great each meal was, especially the scones (not your average scone, I won't spoil the surprise by going into detail so just order it, you won't be disappointed). Based on Yelp reviews we decided to try this place. Upon entering we were greeting by a bright cheerful girl who also was our waitress. The decor is rustic country. It was very clean and they were following Covid guideline. Our coffee was served quickly, unfortunately the first cup was lukewarm and old tasting. Our kind waitress fixed that issue with a fresh hot pot. We ordered the Emmys breakfast and a 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy with a side of Hash Browns. Our food came quickly fresh and hot. The gravy over the hash browns had a nice spicy kick to it, it was very satisfying. The gravy over the biscuits was a plain sausage gravy, not the greatest but not the worst. It was hot and edible. The biscuits were really disappointing, we could tell they are a bought product not homemade, they were dry and crumbly, not appetizing at all. A little hot sauce and down they went. The scone was very good, fried doughy, chew with yummy honey butter, it was better than other places in northern Utah. Yes I would go back, but I would not order the biscuits. This is a down home diner place. No frills about the layout of the cafe. The breakfast selection however is a pretty wide range of options and the food is pretty good consider it being in a small town. Their pancakes were so fluffy and so good! Also their french toast looks plain but also tastes delicious! I guess don't judge a book by the cover. Just as quickly it was delivered to my table. I placed my food order and in no less than 5 minutes it was sitting in front of me. Wow! They keep your cups full. They turn tables as quickly as you want to move. Parking was full on a Monday morning when I walked in so I expected it to be packed. There were still plenty of tables. Let's be honest, you aren't eating here for the decor or ambiance. It's older and no frills but the people make the place. The patrons were friendly, all seemed to know each other and the servers. I felt welcome and comfortable. You feel like you're eating at grandma's - it's comfort food, slightly greasy spoon, but filling nonetheless. It reminds me of Sills in Layton so if you like Sills, you'll love Criddles. I ordered Emmy's breakfast. I couldn't decide what I wanted based on the reviews and thought I'd try the key things that peaked my interest: the pancake, scone and SOS gravy. The scone tasted just like Sills. It was good with the honey butter. The pancake was so fluffy and delicious. No need for syrup at all and had a hint of vanilla taste. The SOS gravy was standard and tasted good. Finally I found a place better than ihop (and more reasonably priced since ihop's prices are going up). But this is a cute and well established family business. They specialize in breakfast and they sure deliver on their specialty. They serve lunch too, but I came in around noon and the place was full so it must be good. The place was busy, but I was impressed how quickly I was able to order and get my food considering how busy it was. And best of all the staff was very very very friendly. They joke around with you like you are family and I thought it was awesome! I'm certainly coming back just for that touch of charm alone. But last but not least the food was incredible. As far as momma papa diners places go this one is great! The food is delicious, portions are generous and the prices are great! I was sad when Doug and Emmy's closed because I didn't feel the other place in Layton was comparable to them. Now I have found my new favorite diner!
