Crisp and juicy indeed! I ate there last night - my friend had been telling me about it, and I wanted to try it. I ordered one of the platters, which came with a half chicken (dark meat), fries, a small salad and a roll. Our food was ready pretty quickly. My friend asked for napkins and the lady in the kitchen gave her an attitude - don't know what that was about. Anyway, we went and sat down outside to eat. After one bite, I just shook my head "yes" and said that the chicken was indeed, the truth! It's so good that you don't even need the little thimble-full of sauce that they give you, although it's really good with that too. This place grew on me. I remember getting it the first time and thinking, "This isn't that special, probably won't get it again," but maybe it's the cloud of rotisserie scents in that escape the store or the fact that there aren't any competing chicken stores in the area, it has some kind of hold on me and I keep going back. So, I'm always on the look out for delicious rotisserie chicken. It's something that I'm sorta obsessed with :) This place is right next door to the Caribou coffee. When you walk by the restaurant you can smell a delicious garlicky aroma tickling your nose and urging you to come in. Who am I to deny my nose such pleasures? So I go in an order a quarter white meat meal with yucca and salad. There are a few tables to sit at and on most days it has a consistent flow of people. The chicken is moist, but where is that garlicky goodness I was anticipating?! So strange that the smell belies the flavor. Not that it's bad, but I was hoping for more based on the smell. The fried yucca is of course delicious and cut in appropriate sizes. The house salad is also decent. When I'm in the area I do go back, but it's not as spectacular as I thought it would be. read more

Crisp & Juicy's lecherous moniker doesn't necessarily evoke images of Peruvian chicken, yet gloriously moist skin does indeed await you underneath a crisp layer of highly seasoned skin. Like Super Pollo, Crisp & Juicy appears to season their meat with copious amounts of cumin (along with garlic and all the other usual suspects one finds in these Peruvian preparations). The accompanying sauces are probably a step below most of the places I have been, and I eschewed the sides entirely. Still, unlike many of the Yelp reviewers, my experience with Crisp & Juicy was altogether positive. I'd definitely make a return trip although I will note that I have yet to try the more highly regarded Sabroso located in the same neighborhood. read more

This place doesn't hold a candle to Super Pollo and El Pollo Rico - both of which are located in Arlington. But, as far as I know, it's the only Peruvian chicken spot in downtown Silver Spring so there's nothing nearby to compete with it. At first, I thought it was pretty decent, then ok and my last trip to the shop presented me with a platter that left me feeling underwhelmed. It might just be me, but I feel as if their quality has slowly gone downhill over the years. My yuca was tough and overcooked, my chicken flavorful on some sides and bland on the others, the rice and beans were watery and were very salty. The price point is ok IMO but you could get better charcoal chicken elsewhere. If you have a craving for Peruvian chicken, venture elsewhere. If you're lazy and local I guess this spot will do in a pinch. read more

Maybe I went on a bad night, but I didn't think the chicken was seasoned enough and sides were okay. They were pretty busy when I went there since it was when the whole neighborhood's electricity was down (but mysteriously the commercial areas were fine...) It was indeed juicy though, and I think the crisp part refers to the fries that the chicken is usually served with. Think how much better if the chicken's skin is what it referred to! I'll try again and update, but first time wasn't that great so really have no desire to return anytime soon. If you've never had Peruvian chicken, you need to stop reading right now and evaluate your entire life. It is a MUST!! I don't care where you get it from, just get it. Now that that's been said, I will let you know that MY favorite Peruvian chicken spot is Crisp and Juicy. Hands down. Their chicken is exceptionally good! They have a rotisserie pit where they cook whole chickens and you can seriously smell the chickens cooking from miles away. I have no idea what seasoning they use on their chicken, but it is incredible! You know how sometimes only the skin of the chicken is flavored? Well, with C&J chicken, the meat is flavored all the way through. I think it's the combo of the amazing seasoning and the wood they use in the pit. Whatever it is, it's an amazing formula that I hope they never change. Not only is the chicken tasty, it is plump, juicy, and moist, yet (as the name suggests), the skin is crispy. It's a small miracle! Their cole slaw is one of my favorite sides ever and if you ask them to cook the fries up fresh, those are also amazing. You can also get fried yuca and fried plantains, which are not common sides around here, so I always get some whenever I come in here. Here's a little trick I learned. I came in to buy meals for my parents and myself. My mom had asked me to get three 1/4 dark meat meals (which come with two sides). Well... each of those was $8. I noticed that the family meal (which includes one whole chicken plus three large sides) was $20. The issue is that people in my family only like dark meat, so getting a whole chicken means that someone is left eating the breast and while we'll reluctantly do it, we're all going to be fighting over that juicy leg/thigh. At any rate, I asked the guy ringing me up if he wouldn't mind giving me the family meal, but making sure all the chicken was dark meat and he agreed. So I came out WAY ahead in the price department. He let me in on the little tip that as long as they have enough dark (or white) meat available, they'll be willing to give you four pieces of one type of chicken in place of one of their whole chickens. Good to know! This is a fast food joint, so don't expect tablecloths and ambiance. It's just a basic looking place that serves excellent chicken. If you don't like how it looks inside, just buy the chicken and take it somewhere else. Seriously... just buy the chicken. Also, they will try to talk you into paying for extra sauces. Their chicken is so good, the sauces aren't even necessary. Skip that little "extra". You don't need it. read more

Awful People working at the Blairs Crispy & Juicy. I live at the Blairs and I use to buy 2 whole chicken ever week for dinner. But after some crazy woman employee yelled at me because i did not want the chicken she place in the bag. I am a health inspector and I can tell when something is not right. I had the right to refuse to purchase food I feel doesnt look right without someone going off. I did not say anything nasty to her or about the chicken. I just said I do not want that chicken and she went crazy. I have never eat at Crisp & Juicy again. I am so glad Sabroso's has great food and great people working. read more

I tried this place years ago and disliked the food. I decided to give the place another try - only to stand at the counter for five minutes while the employees chatted and pointedly ignored me. It wasn't because they were swamped, there were only two other customers in the restaurant and both had their meals. It can't be because they didn't see me, as both looked at me more than once. It can't be that I was dressed shabbily and looked like I couldn't pay, as I was well dressed and clean cut. Could it be because they weren't in the mood to do business with black people? I always come here when I am tempting for Peruvian chicken or for a quick meal with fair price. You can choice white or dark meat with sides, sometimes meat is a bit dry or too salty but it would be ok when you mixed with rice or eat with other dishes. It's always a long line for ordering but it generally take 10 to 15 minutes then your food will be ready! read more

I was visiting the area back in October. I was starving and my cousin took me here for lunch. I'm so glad she did. We went at a great time because there were maybe only 1 or 2 other customers when we arrived. I ordered the 1/2 chicken, black beans/rice. I'm a huge Crisp and Juicy fan of the Wheaton location. I always thought they had better deals, and better tasting Chicken for some reason. But I thought I would give this place a couple tries since it's closer to home. I feel like the service here isn't as good, and the chicken doesn't taste as good for some reason. I have never tried the other locations, other then Wheaton but it has made me to not want to return to this location. I'd rather take the extra hike and go to Wheaton. read more

Ok chicken. They make you pay for sauce. Sabrosa down the street blows it away.

The food was tasty, but the service was sub par and they really skimp on portions and sauce. The chicken comes with ONE 1 oz container of sauce (basically a tablespoon). I asked for a second sauce to dip my yucca in, and they charged me $0.45 for it! They don't have any sauce out on the tables, so you basically have to pay $0.45/oz. if you don't want to eat dry yucca or fries. I wouldn't mind paying half that, but this was ridiculous. And the side salad now comes in the smallest deli container I have ever seen . I didn't get any plastic ware (I guess I am supposed to eat everything with my fingers, including the salad). The chicken and yucca were still as good as I remember it from when I used to go to the original C&J in Arlington, but I was left feeling like I was nickel/dimed. Always fresh, good, and quick. It's mostly for carryout; it's small and crowded inside, but they have tables outside when the weather's good. The chicken is cooked perfectly, moist and not greasy. The latino chicken breast sandwich has a spicy sauce that's very tasty. One thing I like about the caesar salad is that the dressing is on the side, so you can use as little or as much as you want. I keep it low to save calories, but they give you several small (1-2 oz?) plastic cups of it, so you can slather it on. :-) read more

One of the best Peruvian chicken spots ever! So tender, flavorful with perfectly crisp edges. I ordered the half chicken, the plantains and the yuca fries as well. The chicken was great, but I wanted more, to match the amount of sides they gave (which was a healthy portion). Perhaps it's because I asked for only dark meat. I have been eating at C&J since the mid 90's at the seizure world location.They have ,hands down the best latin-style chicken in Md.Was annoyed by the East-West highway branch..slower then dirt and the counter people were snippy.Hit the Westfield or Seizure world (Leisure World) locations.get some dipping sauce too or your only getting half of the deal. read more

I tried this place for the first time today, and it was great! Service was good, and they were very particular about keeping things organized with orders placed in the store and orders that had been placed online for door dash drivers to pick up. Despite the wait time being short, the food was still quality. I got the American chicken sandwich and I got full on just that. The chicken was tender and I really enjoyed it. I'd say more 3.5, actually. Admittedly, the best part about this place is that it's practically next door to my apartment building, and conveniently located when I head back on the Metro. If Sabroso Grill was a little closer, I'd probably stop there...but that's, like, a whole 5 minute walk out of my way (heheh). I'll agree with most that the "crisp" element is often missing from the "Crisp and Juicy", but the chicken is still really good - fresh and juicy (maybe they should change their name to that). My experience with the sides has been minimal, mostly because my roommate and I usually order the off-menu daily special (whole chicken with a side of fries and fried yucca). The fries and yucca are the perfect complements for this chicken (maybe it's the addition of the "crisp" element). I've also had the salad, and it's nothing special (just a cheap attempt to counterbalance fried starches and juicy chicken). The SAUCES are amazing, though - yellow and orange, we call 'em. They're mayonnaisey, and I'm pretty sure "orange" is mayo and Sriracha. They are tasty and do admittedly beat out my beloved Sabroso. C&J also sells gigantic peach and mango iced teas out of the fridge that look like 40s. Just sayin'. The sandwiches aren't really anything to get excited about, unless you just are really in the mood for chicken in sandwich form. I'd stick with the classic lick-your-fingers style. My one nitpicky qualm is that I always feel bad when I come here because of all the styrofoam they use (and this is definitely a take-out joint). There are days when I feel like I should just bring my own tupperware and ask them to put it in there so that I can trot the 2 minutes to my house in a more environmentally-friendly container. But I still keep going back again and again, so apparently I don't feel *that* bad quite yet. read more

I was really excited to try a new Peruvian chicken place after discovering Sardi's in Beltsville but unfortunately this was a major disappointment for a number of reasons. First, the food was just okay - nothing special. Not a ton of options on the menu, even for just chicken plates, and it was way too overpriced for the quality and quantity. I would also add that seating is pretty limited and everyone was a bit crammed in together and it took a long time because the place is so small. I would recommend checking another place out if you're craving Peruvian (like I am, constantly). read more

Disappointed. Gave it a shot since its a mile from my house. Won't be returning. The chicken is okay 7/10. Got there at 8pm and they were out of plantain, salad, and most other sides that comes with the family meal (3 sides). Had to get double fries and rice/beans. The kicker was when they gave me a whole chicken with a whopping 4 sauces (1 white, 2 yellow, and 1 green) charges for more. So if you get a 1/4 chicken you only get 1 sauce. That's cheap!! They should at least give you 2 per quarter, so if you like sweet and spicy, you're out of luck. For that reason alone, I will not be returning. I will take the extra 15 min trip to College Park and get better chicken and sides and 12 sauces per whole chicken (3 per 1/4). read more

This is some of the best Peruvian chicken in town. I always get the quarter chicken dark with black beans and white rice. Hot and mild sauce is a must. Even the salad is yummy. The only thing that's missing is the bread that they give you at the Arlington location. read more
