I ran across this bakery in my too good to go app. And a nice option to try a place you've never been and to help them not waste food. Picked up my items at appointed time and received three bakery items. They are pretty good size. In fact gave one of them to my coworker. The best out the three I enjoyed was the pumpkin muffin. The almost crossing was huge and really good. While there, I saw the different offerings. I settled on the English muffins. The staff person said they all fight over whose getting and are often times sold out quick. I can see why. I'm a Thomas' snob and generally the generic doesn't do it for me. However. These were good, I found my self not wanting to eat them all up. I'll be back for those ans some of the artesian breads. read more

A highly recommend ordering a cake from Crispian bakery...sadly, since the start of covid many bakeries are streamlining their menus and not taking custom orders...fortunately, Crispian still has many of their popular pastries (yum almond croissants!) AND taking orders for cakes Sister wanted a chocolate cake that she had for her wedding day to celebrate August birthdays...chocolate ganache, chocolate mousse, with whipped cream with a perfectly rich, textured chocolate cake...none of that cloyingly sweet frosting or buttercream just chocolate goodness. I would say if you like Costco's tuxedo cake (minus the vanilla/white chocolate mousse layer)...you'll love this cake! Chocolate cake is never my first choice but Crispian bakery truly hit the spot and a major hit! Definitely a repeat item and worthy to order one without an occasion! I first heard about this place from the company I work for. They ordered their passion fruit tart pies here. There were so good, we asked where they got it from! Street parking only. No seating or going inside the cafe. They take your order from the window. Kinda sad since I love checking out the selection of pastries from the counters but they only have photos of the food for you to choose from. So I would recommend looking at yelp photos to help you decide what to choose as well. We came with just one mission, it was to get the passion fruit tart pie! I would definitely try out the other food but I am already hooked with the pie, what if I am hooked with the other foods they have?! I would CRY! They do sell out so I would go there early. I recently ordered and picked-up 16 dark chocolate mousse tartlets to take to a dinner party in SF. I wanted something small and easy to transport. And that I felt would be a nice addition to the evening. They were, indeed, very easy to transport. And they were a HUGE hit!! Everyone was raving about them. The flavor, the texture, the size. Finally visited this place after having this in my bookmarks for years! I came on a Thursday morning and the place wasn't busy and I was able to find parking at the small parking lot. As of December, they are only open for pickups. The workers are really nice and friendly. The menu is up on the window with pictures so it was convenient to know what the pastries look like since they are not visible from the outside. There were a few pastries that weren't up though but I heard other customers ordering them so if there's anything you don't see, they probably have them if you ask. I got the almond croissant, the specialty croissant (chocolate, almond paste, & apricot jam) and the lavender latte. The almond croissant is supper flaky and has generous amount of almond paste. The sweetness of the almond paste was perfect but it lacks almond flavor. Overall, it's a decent almond croissant and I would get it again if I am in the area. My boyfriend tried the specialty croissant and he loves it. This is my first time seeing a bakery put 3 fillings in a croissant. If you like something sweet then the specialty croissant will be perfect for you! The lavender latte was surprisingly good! I was only expecting a mediocre coffee since this is not a specialty coffee shop but I was amazed at how smooth the coffee is here. They make the lavender syrup in house and it doesn't taste artificial at all. The lavender flavor is not too strong and gives a nice aroma to the coffee. Highly recommend! read more

My partner and I are usually only ever in the Park Street area on late Sunday mornings with our dog. We never get a chance to come here early and the savory pastries are always gone! The line forms outside and you can only order from a window at the sidewalk. Fast, convenient, and sanitary! We have tried several of their sweet pastries including croissants, tartlets, and cookies which have all been good! We also tried the olive loaf a few weeks ago and although delicious, we couldn't finish it. We froze it and it thawed nicely and still tasted delicious the second time. Each time we go, the regulars in line advise us to get the pies, but we don't ever need that much food. So this time we opted to share a cherry danish and each try one of their strawberry French macarons. Now that I've had a taste of pie filling on the danish, I know where to look next time I need a pie. The macarons are properly chewy like French style should be, I'll definitely try more flavors when they are in rotation. Hopefully we can get here sooner next time and snag some of their more popular but elusive savories! read more

WHEN: DURING COVID-19 I'm so happy to see them set up during the Pandemic. You don't go inside because they open up 2 of their windows for you to walk up and order. There's usually a line but not long. For as long as I've lived in Alameda, Crispian is still my favorite bakery. Here's what I usually get: HAM AND SWISS CROISSANT - $4.75 This is always my first choice but it seems I need to come at opening time for them cuz they seem to always sell out. But its okay, lucky for me Crispian has a lot of yummy pastries to choose from! But the flavors of this is so good---its like they sprinkle it with the everything but the bagel seasoning, and you have the layers of cheese, ham and buttery pastry! It's a hefty size too! CHEDDAR SCALLION SCONE - $3.50 I never order scones but these taste like amazing biscuits to me--which I love! It's fluffy and buttery with all the cheddar and and scallions! Yum! ALMOND CROISSANT - $4.50 I've mentioned in a previous review that this is the best almond croissant I've ever had. I was lucky to have had it fresh and warm too. It;s huge and jam packed with the frangipane (almond cream filling) both inside and on top! So you get this lovely crunch from the that being baked, and the almond slivers and of course the croissant itself! So GOOD! OATMEAL RAISIN - $1.25 You can buy any of the cookies by the pack too, which comes out to be cheaper (4 for $4), but those sell out fast. The Oatmeal Raisin is my favorite cookie here. They use GOLDEN raisins and you just taste all the butter and sweet raisins--it's SO good! BOSTOCK - $3.00 This was a new one. I arrived near closing time and this is one of the non-pumpkin pastries left. I'm glad I gave it shot cuz its quite tasty! It looks simple but its so good, its hard to explain. You taste all the layers: Slice of brioche bread, frangipane almond, jam (lemon?), powdered sugar and slivered almonds. I really enjoyed this! STICKY BUN - $5.50 I've this a few times now usually when there was nothing else left. This bad boy is huge jam packed with LOTS of chopped pecans! I recommend heating it up. Since the pandemic they no longer do the 50% pastries/bread one hour before closing. Which is great, cuz its hard times right now. It just sucks that I can't really see what is left to buy. They have a board they leave out with photos, and they will flip over what is out. But not everything is posted, so I feel a bit bad asking what is left--but only if there is no one next after me hehe. The gentleman there was super sweet and nice telling me what the pastries are. Celebrated my dad's birthday this weekend and as cream puffs are his favorite dessert, searched for cream puffs on the island. My mom ordered several with passionfruit filling. These are incredibly generous portion-wise (like the size of a softball) and omg every bite was amazing. The pastry was soft, the whipped cream fluffy and just sweet enough to complement the passionfruit filling. We all loved them. Lovely customer service too, Will be back! read more

I've always got their bread from Too Good to Go and their free bread on Tuesday. BUT today me and my boyfriend got their cream puff and specialty croissant (double baked almond, filled with strawberry jam, and pan au lait) and it was some of the best we've ever had. Currently sipping on their lavender latte as I eat my salty pretzel and almond croissant. I woke up early craving a legit croissant and we all know the best in town is at Crispian. Even on a rainy weekend morning, lines are there so it's best to get there early. It was about 6 deep when we left at 8:30AM. With so many goodies, I had to limit myself but I'm eyeing their seasonal pumpkin muffin for next time! Their coffee and teas list is also extensive, especially their lattes. To celebrate the fall season, I saw both gingerbread and pumpkin lattes. I could never resist a good lavender latte though and this one does not disappoint. I have been on a little tour of east bay bakeries little by little. I came here a few moths back. In one of the hidden gem areas of Alameda on Park st. Crispian may be a bit of a hidden gem itself. Their presentation is very nice a some bakeries just shove all their shit in as tight as possible. I had something called a pineapple pocket. The pocket was basically croissant with sugar on it and the pineapple was like a high level interior of the old home run pies. It was insanely good. This is one of the best plain croissants I have had in the east bay. It could been baked a tiny little bit crispier for my taste but the layers were excellent and the taste was right on point. I also had a cinnamon twist which was made from croissant dough and was also a 10/10 in taste and texture. Loved everything at this place and it wasn't annoyingly busy. This place is quite possibly one of the better bakeries in the East bay. read more

How have I not reviewed this fine establishment!? To first sum it up, I love specifically the warm Nutella Banana Croissant here. I remember seeing a picture of the inside gooeyness of the croissant and I was like, SOLD! I did have to ask for it to be warmed up vs. it being right out of the oven, but it was still a delight! The Good: - I also had the banana bread and it too was good. My hubby thought it wasn't that sweet and it was moist. - Friendly service - There is a bathroom inside. - Outside of this cafe, there is a cool Marketplace for your shopping pleasure - They do mail orders! It's been a few years since I've purchased anything from Crispian Bakery at the Moraga Farmer's Market due to a past incident described in my previous review, but I was there with my son today, and he wanted a decorated Easter cookie. I'm happy to report that the service was great, and the young man working there was polite, unlike the workers there a few years ago, who weren't very customer-friendly. Located at the corner of Park and Buena Vista, they have a parking lot in the back. Due to covid protocols, you order from their window counter and pictures of all their offerings are posted on the windows. There are some items that are specials for the day. I've had the opportunity to try almond croissant, specialty croissant, Jalapeno and cheddar croissant, banana bread, ginger scone, cheddar chive scone, pain au raisin and baguette. Their croissants are very flaky. The scones are moist and buttery. The banana bread was moist. The baguette had a nice chewy texture. Very dense and dry, disappointed, especially for the price (8" $46). Since it was my first time trying Crispian, I had wanted a 6", but they didn't have any. At my 71st birthday party, my daughter brought a cherry pie from Crispin Bakery. I knew of Krispin as I live in Alameda and drive by it often. I have never purchased anything from them as I figured it was another bakery among many bakeries in the East Bay. However, the cherry pie my daughter brought from Crispins was unbelievably great! Everyone was laughing because I kept saying, "Damn this is good." This was the best pie I have had for as far back as I can remember. The cherries were round and plump, not oversweet. The crust was nice and flaky and again not overpowering with the buttery taste that I find in most pie crust. This was a pie made by someone who loves and knows pies. Fresh pastries ftw! Street parking is limited and you order with them through their window. They have quite a selection on a Friday morning and it changes everyday. I got their glazed raisin croissant (pretty sweet), chocolate croissant (flakeyyyyy), chocolate cranberry Mac nut cookie (this one was so good and the perfect amount of crunch, sweetness, nuttiness), and a cranberry scone (buttery). Not a baker so I can't put my finger on it, but wish I had the recipe. Their pastries are alright, but I'm more into the savory stuff they have here rather than their sweets. What I've tried so far: Olive Baguette - 4/5. I actually ordered the cranberry walnut bread but they gave me this on accident. But it's okay cause I guess I wanted to try it LOL. It was soo soft and moist in a good way! Chedder Scallion Scone - 5/5. I LOVEEDD this. Like everyone says it basically tastes like a biscuit rather than a scone and I enjoyed it. Definitely something I would get everytime I come back Almond Croissant - 3/5. This was okay, but I think I've definitely had better almond croissants. I'm not sure if it was just the one I got that day but the top was pretty dry and crumbly, and the inside was just okay. Prob wouldn't order it again. Raspberry Bostock - 3/5. This was okay too but was a little dry on top. Personally it was too sweet for me and didn't do much for my appetite, so wouldn't order this again either. Cranberry Walnut bread - 4.5. Something about their breads are amazing to me LOL each bread I've gotten has been pretty good. Basically I would come back for only savory, only cause all the sweets I've tried here were all dry. BFF and I finally tried this place this past Saturday morning. We walked early to avoid the line (that I always see driving by on Park St) and thankfully, we got there and there was only one person in line. The menu was through pictures (no prices) so be warned... I ended up getting 4 sticky buns, 1 bostock, and 1 banana bread with a triple shot latte. My total damage was around $35... they boxed it up and upon receiving the box, it felt heavy for 6 pastries. When my family and I opened it at home, we found out why... the portions are gigantic and they definitely didn't cheap out on ingredients. The sticky buns had an overwhelming amount of nuts... every single bite had nuts in it and if you like nuts - then this is the spot for sticky buns. My family and I ended up not finishing ours b/c we all got sick from too many nuts. The BFF also got me an epi bread but the cashier didn't mention that it was sourdough... so definitely ask if you're planning on getting it... They have a parking lot in the back specifically for those shops and are currently operating out of a walk up ordering window. Online ordering is available ahead of time! I ordered a 6-inch vanilla cake with raspberry mousse and passion fruit curd. It was great! Would like to try the chocolate one next time and recommend taking the cake out before eating to change temp as employees stated. Also tried their chocolate chip cookies and YUM!!! Being on a recent sweet tooth kick, I've been perusing bakeries and cafes on Yelp and decided on making a special trip to Crispian bakery on a rainy Sunday morning. I was on a mission to satisfy of craving for cream puffs. It was a sleepy morning at 9:30 with the parking lot near empty. I cruised through the little alleyway and hung a left, and there it was in all its glory. Actually, it was a quaint little shop. I stepped through the doors, with my order ready on my lips, "I'll have one cream puff and a mocha please." The girl behind the counter carefully placed my confection into a little box, while the barista prepared my hot coffee drink. After 5+ minutes, I was in my merry way, en route to do some grocery shopping. The drink was decent if you don't like sugary drinks. I prefer mine a bit sweeter. It is mocha, after all. With surprising discipline, I waited until I returned home to enjoy my cream puff. I readied myself as it's significantly bigger and more intricate than the likes from Beard Poppa. Carefully, I took a bite without toppling the little pastry shell lid. Wow, I never expected the complexity of the layers! Encased in the slightly sweet shell were vanilla filling, sliced strawberries, and whipped cream. You can tell this was made with love....a well-conceived and well-executed concoction. Came here early friday morning shortly after opening. There wasn't any line & they were being really safe in terms of COVID-19 protocols. You aren't able to go inside but you can easily see what they're offering while in line. Parking: there are several street parking along the street, otherwise, they have a parking lot in the back with decent amount of spaces. Pastries Recommendations: -almond croissant: highly recommend this. They certainly don't skimp on the almond filling like most places so was really pleased with that. Additionally, the outer layer was the right amount of crisp & flakiness. I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet either just the right amount of sweetness you'd want in the morning -Gingersnap cookies: personally, loved this. My partner wasn't the biggest fan since they preferred it chewier but the inside was definitely still chewy. If you prefer chewy I recommend throwing it in the microwave for 15-20seconds. -Chocolate Chip: if you're a fan of the classics get this -Mexican Hot chocolate: if you're a fan of chocolate or brownies, definitely get this!
