If you're in need of a great caterer...look no further! My husband I finally had our wedding reception after two years of waiting. We have worked with this company for almost 4 years. We started coordinating with them back in 2019 planning for our 2020 wedding. Unfortunately, 2020 happened and we couldn't do our wedding how we originally planned. My husband and I got married in 2020 but we had to wait on the reception. Crictic's Choice Catering was very accommodating with having to postpone our reception at no extra cost. They even allowed us to push back two years because we still weren't comfortable having it in 2021 due to the state of things. My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Kaycie Fellows, let me just tell you we loved her right away. My husband and I are chill and calm and Kaycie is the complete opposite. We loved her energetic personality and excitement for us as though we were close friends. We loved how experienced she was with wedding catering and adored her enthusiasm every time we met to talk about our wedding reception. She truly made our dream wedding reception and we had no idea what our "dream wedding reception" vision was but Kaycie definitely achieved it. We had two food tasting with Critic's Choice Catering; one back in 2019 and second in 2020. It has been some time but let me just we were very impressed with each tasting and knew we had to book them. The food that we tasted was what we decided to keep for our menu at our wedding reception. All our guests told us they loved the food and went back for seconds. For appetizers we had choice of Artichoke & Spinach Dip on a Crostini with Parmesan & Parsley (my favorite), Crispy Pepper Poppers Wrapped in Crispy Bacon, and Fire Grilled Mini Kabobs- Tri Tip with Chimichurri & Chicken w/ Cucumber Tazsiki. We had a two entree meal "Artichoke Chicken" and "Herb Rubbed Marinated Tri-tip Carved to Order". We also added "Vegan/vegatarian-eggplant Parmesan" as a non-meat option. The plate also came with Chef Eddy's Famous Potatoes and Fire Roasted Selection of Julienne Cut Vegetables. Everything was tender and cooked outstandingly well. For a Late Night Snack we had a Mini Taco Bar! Yes a mini taco bar! I love tacos especially good tacos. The tacos were made to order and served later in the evening. It was prefect because our guests got a second wind after dancing. They had the choice of Pork Pastor or Carne Asada with Pico de Gallo, Roja Salsa, Avocado Salsa and Grilled Onion's and Peppers. Those tacos were a hit! The best part of having Critic's Choice Catering is they feed your vendors for free and any leftovers guests are free to take home and they pack up the rest for you. In addition to our wedding cake, we had a mini cupcake and mini donut bar. The kids loved it and there wasn't a mini cupcake or donut left behind. Needless to say, Critic's Choice Catering are professionals and have been doing this for a while. My husband and I felt well taken care of and would hire them again for a future celebration. We used Critic's Choice to cater our wedding in September 2023. It was not a good experience and people should know what we experienced in case others are considering them. We encountered many issues with them on our wedding day, most of which we heard about in the days following our wedding. Here's a snippet of the email we sent to them explaining the issues that we had during our wedding: - People were receiving the wrong meal and the staff wasn't checking to see who was receiving what. You told me on the night of the wedding that this was happening because people were switching their food. But after speaking to a good amount of guests, the case was that the waitstaff were just giving people the wrong food and were even asking people what they ordered instead of following the list. The waiters seemed very unprofessional and inexperienced. This even occurred on one of the VIP tables (both of our immediate families) where several guests received the wrong meal. When one of the guests mentioned they had ordered chicken and not surf n' turf, the waiter told them they didn't order chicken even though the menu and name card indicated chicken. - It seems as though there was no plan as to how to go about the dinner service, which is so disappointing given the level of detail and upfront work that was done on our end to ensure this wouldn't happen. (fully detailed spreadsheet, color-coded place cards, customized menus) - Additionally, when guests tried to relay the issues they were having, they were brushed off by the waitstaff, simply stating they were doing their best. We were told that the waitstaff were quite rude, which is again very disappointing. - We spoke to one of our friends who has a daughter that ordered the kids meal and his daughter never received their food. They didn't get anything. This is honestly infuriating and one of the worst things that happened on this list. There's simply no excuse for this. - We heard from many guests that their food was cold and that the risotto wasn't cooked all the way through. - We also heard from many that their water jugs weren't being refilled and others didn't get water at all apparently. - The serving of food to the tables was also very inefficient. We know of a few tables that didn't receive their food until way later than others. We heard many complaints about this. - There was also a huge gap between salads and entrees. This is something we noticed and was echoed by everyone we spoke with. - The late night snacks weren't being served until around midnight, which isn't what we had scheduled. Many people didn't even know about it. That was very poorly executed. - We also heard one of our cake boxes got infested with ants. We had a refrigerator in the bridal suite to store this away in there and if there wasn't any space left, we wish this would have been flagged so we could have removed items from the fridge to prioritize the cake(s). - The fruit/charcuterie station during cocktail hour was swarmed with flies at one point. Not sure exactly when it was brought out but if this was put out before cocktail hour started, shouldn't this have had some sort of covering beforehand to prevent this? After explaining all of the above to Kaycie and Michelle from Critic's Choice, they offered us a $4,949 refund out of a total of ~$38,000 (of which was a $3,300 optional gratuity that we paid in advance, which was a big mistake). After requesting more of a refund, they became litigious and reduced their refund offer to just $3,300, the amount of our prepaid optional gratuity. Needless to say, that won't be enough and we will be taking the matter to court. Please do your due diligence before hiring this company to cater your event. They will impress you at the tasting but fall completely flat on the day of your event. The service provided from them really put a damper on our wedding and hopefully putting this out there will prevent it from happening to others in the future. read more

With disappointment, there's always a silver lining! Bottom line: if you're hosting a party less than 25, don't waste your time with this company. Apparently, it's not worth their time or money. I wish they had told me this upfront as another company I contacted was forthright and professional to do so. I get it. People are busy. As an owner of my own company, I would never treat any client in this manner. I contacted these folks weeks ago and was assured I'd have a proposal in a few days. My husband and I had a small wedding at a remote location in Malibu, and Kaycie and her team knew exactly what to do! From the tasting, to the menu, to the day of, we felt so taken care of and so special. We loved Kaycie's special touches, and it felt like she and her team genuinely cared about us. Critic's Choice SAVED OUR WEDDING! When COVID hit, we found ourselves re-planning our wedding only about 3 months before. We had an all-inclusive venue and then all of a sudden were building a whole new team. We found Critic's Choice through a recommendation of another bride. We compared between Critic's Choice and a few other vendors, but ultimately went with Critic's Choice because of their flexibility, communication, and overall ability to work with our smaller group, but still give us the full package. Kaycie with Critic's Choice spent A LOT of time replying to emails and answering my questions to ensure I felt supported and knew they could do it all...and they could! We booked them pretty quickly and they were just incredible. They offered us a food tasting that we never expected for a smaller group, but it was wonderful. The food was delicious and the service excellent. When wedding day came, the food tasted just as good as we remembered! Like truly...it was SO YUMMY!!!! In addition, the team gifted us a few surprises that really helped make our day special. They truly went above and beyond to make us feel well taken care of and make our dream wedding came true! They took my vision for decor and look of the day and made it happen. They were able to work with our budget, guest count, and all dietary restrictions! My friend hired Critic's Choice Catering for her housewarming party in Silverlake, and I was BLOWN away by the food, the setup, and the service! DAVID and KEVIN were incredible!!! They were so friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond what they were hired to do. They helped refill the drink buckets, walked around handing out fruit kabobs to all the hungry guests, looked after my friend's 3 dogs, chatted with us, etc. And the FOOD - the food was BOMB!!! I had everything on the menu (except for the tri tip cause I don't eat beef). I was the first to start eating at 5:30 PM, and I didn't stop until 8:00 PM. And people noticed - how embarrassing!!!Honestly, I really want to lose my COVID weight but stopped giving a F when I had the food. This review is long overdue! I worked with Kaycie and Critic's Choice for our wedding at Malibu West Beach Club on 10/5/18. For our venue, everything had to be brought in. Critic's Choice was on our preferred vendor list from the venue and is a one-stop shop. We went with the package that included cocktail hour apps, dinner, dessert, centerpieces, linens, silverware, coffee, pre-ceremony refreshments. Basically, anything you can think of, and if it isn't included, you can add it (like our late-night sliders.) Kaycie did an awesome job and honestly, I should have put more faith in her! I am very Type A, so I needed to like confirm, double-check, and ask a thousand questions to make sure everything was on track. However, in retrospect, I really didn't need to do any of that because Kaycie had it handled. There were a few mishaps on the day, just a couple things in the timeline that were overlooked (and overall, slightly too long), but I don't blame Kaycie for that. It's a long day with lots of details, so some things are inevitable. Once we brought it to her attention she adjusted and everything was good. The food was amazing (although, in typical bride fashion, I barely ate the day of because of my nerves) but I got to enjoy everything at the tasting and they were very accommodating in terms of dietary restrictions and allergies. read more

Being a dance event producer and coordinator myself, I was fully aware of the challenges CC were facing with only 3 months window to coordinate and pull off this lovely and intimate celebration. Although much of back and forth communication took place without my involvement, I got to participate in a few key meetings and preliminary food tasting. Having attended many weddings and being a total foodie, I was truly impressed by how great the food tasted and how many options there were to pick from. It was absolutely delish! Yet, even more impressive was the work of the crew headed by Stuart on the day of the wedding. They worked like a real team, doing whatever it took to make the backyard look just perfect, table settings look gorgeous, food look and taste amazing. To top it off, their service ethics and attitude were absolutely top notch. This team took the stress out of what could be a pretty stressful event. The clean up was also quick and efficient. I could not speak more highly of Kaycie and everyone at CC for their accommodations to my wedding! My wife and I had to postpone our wedding from 2020 to 2021, and then unexpectedly had to change venues which meant we needed to find catering, servers and dessert within a 2 month timeframe. Kaycie was able to pull it off beautifully AND even help with the design aspect as we were basically starting from scratch with almost no time to plan. Our farmhouse charcuterie display was a highlight of the entire wedding! We ended the night with an ice cream sundae dessert bar which was phenomenal. All of the staff that Kaycie brought with her were on top of the bussing, cleaning and even serving drinks, which was above and beyond what they were hired to do. The best choice that we made for our wedding was selecting Kaycie at Critic's Choice Catering to design, produce, implement and cater our LGBTQ+ wedding at a Record Store. Throughout the entire process, Kaycie was decisive, knowledgeable, warm and a hands-down blast to work with. Kaycie understood our non-traditional vision and connected us with the best vendors in Long Beach to make it happen within our fairly tight budget. All night long guests were sharing about how incredible the service was and how it was the best food and open bar that they've ever experienced at a wedding. At Critics Choice, Kaycie is the Director. On our wedding night, Kaycie was directing, attending to our needs while also slinging drinks for our guests with outstanding service. The guests knew Kaycie by name and oddly enough, I wasn't surprised. Even in a crowd, Kaycie was attentive to every last need and detail. One of the elements that made my event successful was definitely the help from Lorraine Rice @ Critic's Choice. The event was a small/medium sized day time panel discussion, and the number of guests was estimated around 60. I picked up the phone and spoke to Lorraine, and explained about the event and what I needed. She understood the concept quickly, discussed some color coordination and food with me. On the event date, Brandon arrived at the venue 2 hours before the event starts to set up buffet tables. He was very efficient and beautifully decorated the buffet tables for our guests. The food was fantastic. Since it was a daytime event, I wanted to serve something lighter than dinner. Lorraine suggested their brunch menu that was exactly what I was looking for. All the food was very fresh and delicious. It was very nice to see our guests enjoying the food at the event. They worked with me and our staff pretty efficiently. I also appreciate their flexibility to accommodate my last minute request of some changes. I recommend Critic's Choice for any events.
