I have heard good things about their croissants from my friends and I came to pick up some croissants on a Saturday morning, but I wasn't quite impressed with them. They have good variety of cold and hot croissants and the prices vary somewhere between $3.5 (plain croissant) to $8 (cheese croissant). I ordered Almond Croissant, Pistachio Croissant and Chocolate Croissant. Almond croissant was too sweet for my taste, the chocolate croissant didn't have much fillings, but I liked the pistachio croissant. I noticed they added the fillings after the croissant was baked, which wasn't what I expected. The girl at the cashier was rather impatient, but the lady who served us our croissants was nice. Got the Napoleon (C$4.50) totally worth! Very light and airy, refreshing even for a late night snack! The filling is not too creamy and the sandwich layers are very crispy. It seems silly that I am reviewing this spot without having an actual croissant here but this is a reminder to myself to get one another day. A friend and I have decided to walk twice a week by the lake before we start our work days. We drove downtown Oakville the other day and parked on the street in front of this bakery. It has just opened at 8am and there was a line! You could tell there were definitely 'regulars' here. Maybe I will become one of them! We both ordered drip coffees to go. The coffee was freshly made. I really enjoyed the flavour so perhaps I'll ask what kind of coffee they serve next time I'm there. The staff were really friendly. We visited this shop on Sunday 45 minutes before closing. As soon as we enter the shop countertop lady told us that shop is closing soon. She looks upset and unfriendly. We purchased coffee and some pastry and ask for washroom. "We don't have one", was the answer. THE best croissants I've had in the GTA, hands down. When I first saw the prices, I paused and doubtfully thought that, surely one croissant couldn't be worth that steep-ish price ($3.00 per Chocolate croissant). Until I bit into it, and then I understood - yes, this croissant is worth every penny. Authentic, chewy, melt-in-your-mouth, and so addicting. First, parking. Located in downtown Oakville, street parking in front of the shop is metered and only takes $1.00, $2.00, and $0.25 coins. Second, the shop. There's only a handful of tables, but it's charming, clean, and very welcoming. It's a little shop with a large variety of drinks and pastries. And as the name implies, this is definitely your stop for all things croissants - they had Almond, Hazelnut, Plain, Chocolate, etc. I was in a hurry (my parking was running out!) so I grabbed just one Chocolate croissant - in short, it was amazing. Delectable. Literally, oozing with chocolate. The pastry itself was so chewy, and the brioche texture really stood out. In terms of texture, it wasn't so flaky as much as it was fresh, soft, and chewy, which I loved. The shape was also different from usual croissants - more elongated, and stuffed with melted chocolate. I can't wait to come back and try out the other 'flavours.' I was in a rush and I had been wanting to try Criossant Express for awhile so thankfully I had a meeting nearby so I popped in to grab one of their locally famous sandwiches to go. It's a small place, with tons of yummy looking baked goodies, hot and cold sandwiches, fresh breads, and of course croissants. There isn't a ton of seating but with the summer weather they're able to add a few extra seats on their patio where you can dine in a sort of french cafe style (facing toward the street). Amazing, simply amazing! I went with the hot turkey sandwich that was made with your choice of bread (although I LOVE Rye bread, avoid it as it means you get a smaller sandwich) along with the standard toppings. The sandwich uses freshly baked (in house) bread and is toasted until crispy on the outside (like a grilled cheese) and gooey/piping hot on the inside. I carried the sandwich to my car and proceeded to go to town on it while driving to my next meeting and simultaneous scalding the roof of my mouth. It's a really good thing the owner was there that day, or it could have been a real schmozzle of a breakfast. For starters, it's a beautiful space; warm and cozy, with about six tables for two and a bold marble-top communal table by the window with high stools. There is a mix of provençal and modern in this joint, which is probably thanks to new ownership which stepped in (summer 2010) and gave it a much needed facelift. But it's clear they're still working out some kinks. My date and I snagged a simple quickie breakfast: croissant, two coffees, and quiche. After 15 minutes only one of our orders had been fulfilled, and having to wait for my first coffee of the morning makes me homocidal. Kudos to the owner, who picked up on this and offered us a complimentary cheese croissant for the wait. When my quiche finally arrived, it was the wrong one. It was my month of vegetarianism and while I'm not against bacon in principle, this is a shocking mistake to make. This time the chef came out and apologised, and offered to make me a fresh veggie omelette however I wanted. All in all the pastry and my omelette were really quite good, though our quickie breakfast turned out way longer than we wanted it to be. I have to give props to the staff for taking full ownership of the mistakes made, and doing all the right things to correct them. I would return. Obligatory Title Pun: EXPRESS yourself. I got the hazelnut croissant and my boyfriend got the plain one and we shared a cappuccino. We asked for the croissants to be heated up, properly, as in not in a microwave. Oh my gosh, this was the best croissant I have ever had. The hazelnut filling was to die for. It was like white chocolate and hazelnut all mixed together. The cappuccino was really good as well. The coffee was really good too and I like the large cups, they have nice grip. The atmosphere was very French style. They have cute tiny tables and you have to sit close to your neighbours table. I quite enjoyed this because both times I got into lovely conversations with the people next to me. It is easy to get a table as a group of two. Stopped at the Croissant Express Bakery in search of sandwiches to eat by the lake. Our expectations were blown! I had a roasted veggie and my partner had the chicken veggie sandwich. The bread was super soft, the vegetables and chicken were really flavourful. You çan taste the difference that well prepared food makes! The gentleman at the counter was very friendly and chatted with us as we waited for our lunch. My only disappointment is that we didn't think to buy some croissants or cinnamon buns to take home. Had an order of French Toast ($10.95, with side of fruit), Melted Turkey sandwich ($9.95, no side included), and a cinnamon bun croissant. The cinnamon bun croissant was excellent. Flaky on the outside, soft in the centre, just the right amount of sweetness. The French toast and Turkey sandwich were very disappointing. For the price, there was nothing included beside the sandwich and the two pieces of toast. The sandwich and the French toast were both greasy and oily. The turkey was deli-style slices, and no vegetables apart from a slice of tomato. Some lettuce or onion would have been nice. For $10-11 I'd rather go to Stoney's and get a decent sized sandwich with real ingredients. I'll be back but only for the baked goods. read more

Seeing as my favourite Oakville coffee shop (Kafene) closed for good, I need to find a new place to get my caffeine. I remembered going to Croissant Express a little while back for breakfast on a weekend. I also remember trying to visit Croissant Express on a weekday before work and seeing that it had not yet opened. In my drowsy state, I actually missed a couple turns and ended up on good ol' Lakeshore Road downtown Oakville. When I passed by C.E. (on the east end of the downtown zone) I noticed the door was open! There was a parking spot at the end of the row just past the café (no need to parallel park!) so I figured I had nothing to lose. They were barely open. Like their shelves were bare. I guess it was a little early for them and he assured all of us that there were lots more to choose from in the back. A group of 3 was there for a leisurely breakfast and snuck in before me. I was worried I'd be late for work, but the kind gentleman took my order at the same time, and when he found out it was 'to go' got it out to me very quickly. I love my croissants, when done right. I've had a perfect croissant at C.E. before, but not today. My almond croissant was a little squished, so it already wasn't pretty. The almond filling wasn't distributed evenly and a portion of it was slightly burnt! My large coffee (comparable to a Starbucks grande) rang in at $2.00 and was just okay. Not memorable. I was impressed when the staff did not hesitate to prepare a batch of decaf to fulfill someone else's order. He let the gentleman know it would take a while, but insisted he would do it right away, and did. Great service! This place was a-okay, but won't be my replacement for Kafene. I have been here a few times and have always left happy. Where they lose marks is the fact that they are probably the most expensive coffee shop on the Oakville strip. That being said I like the outdoor summer seating option, the high top tables at the window as well as the option to grab some fresh bread with your coffee. It's definitely worth a try... The bakery has transformed to the most beautiful cafe/bakery in the west side of town or maybe the GTA. Food and the baked goods are amazing. This is a go to spot and institution in oakville. They have so many delicious treats and bakery options it's the best of it's kind in this neck of the woods. Coffee brew is average but specialty drinks are quite good. It's a must try whenever walking around dT oaks for sure.
