An Awesome place to pass the time and get some good beer paired with some random eats as well. It's a little bit nicer than your average bar food, with a more upscale feel. This is a gastro brewery with indoor and outdoor dining with some scenic views. They have a good size menu of beers which can be locally found, and their menu sometimes changes so if you're a local, you can steadily find something new. The first time stopping by there was a bit of a wait so instead of standing around we ventured outside and did a quick little walk to see the greenery with beer in hand. We've sat at the bar and tables on different occasions, too cold for the outside, but you can still view some of the outside from the windows. The staff were friendly and fast and threw out some popular recommendations, which I love. The food was pretty good, hot, and had a lot of flavor, a nice variety of different things to consume. Crooked Ewe has an amazing location. Overlooking the river right next to the train bridge you are in for some fantastic views. Beer wise they are OK not my favorite but definitely have some decent offerings. The standouts are usually their oatmeal, stout and cream ale although on this last visit, I found the mail to be much hoppier and more bitter than I remember. Service is friendly and attentive. Their menu seems overly complicated and overly expensive to be really honest. At our last visit, I opted for the smoked meats. They were out of pastrami so I went with my second choice brisket and a hot link with a side of jalapeño cheese grits. The hot link was good definitely the smallest hotlink I've ever seen. The brisket was tough. It had a few tender pieces, but was pretty dried out for the most part. The star of the show was the grits. Creamy perfectly cooked with just the right amount of heat. I would have returned all the meat just to get another couple bowls of grits. My husband enjoyed his sandwich, but said the fries were just OK. He went for the beef fat fries, but they were not super crisp or hot. Will definitely visit again, but we may skip the food next time. read more

Ewe will Love Crooked Ewe!! I flew into South Bend International Airport and after receiving my bags and picking up my rental car I was starving. I had Crooked Ewe in my iPhones GPS so I could go straight there from the airport. When I got there it was raining and the parking lot was almost full. Please note that people come and go, so I only had to wait a few minutes for multiple parking spaces to free up. I walked from the parking lot to the entrance and went in. Upon my arrival, and just coming from Ontario, I was the only one aside from the staff wearing a mask. It seemed so surreal after being in lockdowns and having to wear a mask everywhere you go in Ontario. I made my way to the bar and noticed one side had no one sitting there and sat down. The Bartender/Beer aficionado came over right away and recommended some of the seasonal beers to me, and helped me choose food for my dinner and the best beers to go with my meal. He also left me some samples to try out while I was deciding. Food and Drink for This Evenings Meal. Beers ( Brought some home too ) Glasgow Butcher Scotch Ale Vital IPA Wendigo American Stout Relief v3 Food FRIED RICE - Caramelized Brussel sprouts, Brined pork belly, Kimchi and Cilantro, Edamame, topped with a one hour egg and tso sauce. Smoke ( Meat Platter ) - Brisket, Shoulder and Pastrami as the meats with elder bread sourdough, accoutrements (bacon & heritage potato salad , Brussels & pork belly, house pickles with bbq sauce). The Beer was very well made, I've had beer at hundreds of Brew Pubs all over the US and Canada. Indiana's Craft beer scene is thriving ( just sayin' ) and Crooked Ewe is right up there with the best. The food was very well made and presented, and not one item in any of the dishes was disliked. The Bartender did a great job matching beers with the foods. Inside is a really well designed dining room, cozy and spacious so you don't feel cramped and you still are a comfortable distance from others. The bar area has seats spread out but like any bar you move the stools closer if you're with friends. At the bar there is a large window that overlooks the St Joseph River, giving the view a zen vibe whiles your drinking or eating. The interior was so cool and the dark mood set the tone nicely. It felt like a dreamy atmosphere that only the a few people know about. I ordered the mushroom melt and switched the vegan cheese with regular cheese. It was delicious. The mushrooms were the star of the show and I love mushrooms so this was a hit! I swapped the sides for their roasted veggies. I got asparagus and carrots and I normally dislike roasted carrots but these were delicious. The melt was a bit messy to hold and a tad too greasy for my liking but it was definitely still delicious. Would order again. 8/10 We also got the kimchi fried rice. DO NOT GET IT. I know what kimchi fried rice is supposed to be and this was NOT IT. They put cilantro... CILANTRO!!!! That was an immediate miss for any fried rice. 0/10 The special dessert for the night was some corn cake with jalapeño-peach jam with toasted marshmallow topping. It was okay. I wouldn't get it again. The jam was too sweet. The cornbread was way too dry. The marshmallow was the only good thing because how can you mess up marshmallows? Found this spot on Yelp and reviewed the beer menu online before my visit. I don't care for IPAs, so the heavier dark beers and stouts were just what ai wanted. This is a smoked meat and paired beer establishment, and it definitely lives up to the other online reviews and recommendations. First, the food is amazing: I highly recommend the poutine as a shareable. For my entree I got the brisket melt and it was great, but overpriced--I'm honestly not sure why it costs so much. Too hungry to take pictures before diving in, but the food was delicious! Started with the pork rinds and only got better from there! The rinds were season wonderfully with a little kick but cooked fresh along with a pepperdew dip that complemented them well. Split the regular burger and no complaints here. The special sauce didn't jump out at you but wasn't bland either. Burger was good well done and smashed. I'm not into fries but these had enough salt to tempt me and you got a healthy serving. My son entertained the brisket smelt and thumbs up! Brisket was smoky but not killer smoke and the sauce, mmmm! He loved the Texas toast! Lastly I had the rice noodle salad and definitely would order that again. Plenty of edamame and nuts with a lovely vinaigrette that actually covered all of it (not dry at all). This is a brewery - they brew their own beer. I had a Vanilla Porter (nitro). It was very good. It was the only beer I had so I can't make in generalizations. Besides the beer they serve bottled wine. The ambiance was cozy but large enough to accommodate at least 60 people. It had the reclaimed brick wall decor. The food was typical for a brewery that serves food - mostly sandwiches, a couple of salad choices, finger foods, etc. I had a braised beef sandwich served with a mildly hot sauce. It was good but nothing special. My wife had a hamburger - which she didn't know was a smash-burger. It was thin, cooked well done, and tasteless. She said it was the worst burger she ever had. We came here for a casual bite to eat not expecting much from this brewery/restaurant. But we were pleasantly surprised by the food. The elote hushpuppies are crispy, tasty and unique. I would go back again just for these. Order them! The beef fat fries portions are huge - enough for 4 people. The tacos were enough for two people to share (an order comes with 3 tacos). They may not look big in people's pictures but they're deceptively filling and bigger in real life. The music is a bit loud but it's a brewery. The decor and atmosphere is nothing unique or special. BEWARE of the Gluten We came for the first time and were seated in the upper area. It was a nice view with a nice atmosphere. The story about this place (which you will see on other reviews) is that just about everything is gluten free. Visiting with a friend that has celiac disease, she highly recommended we ate here. We made it very clear to the server that we needed gluten free. The food we ordered was just ok, not bad just nothing to bring you back quick. My friend ordered a sandwich and was reassured that it would be gluten free. Half way through the meal she commented how good the bun tasted because i do not like most gluten free bread products. That surprised me so I asked the server to make sure it was gluten free. After a few minutes he came back apologizing that it was not. My friend being pregnant, her husband was a little upset. The manager was ok but at no point refused any blame for the mess up (afraid we were going to sue?) but did blame the server. My daughter liked her taco's and my son ate a ton of meat with the smoked entre. It was later on a Sunday night and we had been skiing. So we were tired and hungry. Our waitress was energetic, informative and kind. Could not have done better, except for the room they put us in. OMG, what a depressing space. We had our kids so we had to go upstairs. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!!!!!! If I could give more than 5 stars I absolutely would. Everything we ate and drank today was absolutely delicious, and my fiancé and I are big on barbecue. The pulled pork was our favorite part of the meal and was quite possibly the best pulled pork I've ever had. The cauliflower appetizer was also exceptional. The brisket and sprouts were still very very good but not as amazing as the other dishes in my opinion. I also tried the barley wine and bought a can of it to have at home another night.
